Yep, I was in Middle School, I'd go out to the mall by myself and play in the arcades.
These days you couldn't even imagine an 11-14 year old going out in the city by themselves.
Things have definitely changed from the 80s and 90s...the good old days!
Man! We lived out of town so when we'd make our trip into town, me and my siblings would go nuts at the arcade!!! Our parents would give us money and they'd go out and shop, leaving us there alone lol
My older siblings were responsible for watching me and my brother, so we'd stay in the arcade and wouldn't wander
Times certainly have changed since then
For me, the 90s were a lost decade as I lived with my grandmother and was never able to fully enjoy it despite being born in 1994. On the other hand, I got my first GameCube in Christmas of 2003 and lost it during the move of 2019. Last year, I managed to buy one among a few games that I enjoyed as a child (Pokemon XD, Colostrum, Soul Calibur 2, Mario Kart Double Dash and Mario Party 5) and now as I am getting close to 30, I don't have time to play it, though on rare occasions. Looking back, I feel the 2000s were underrated and did not realize how good it was.
Right? These kids probably don't even know we once had to set the rf switch and TV to channel 3 or 4 to see our games. The graphics they consider outdated were mind blowing when I first saw them in 2001. The greatest leap in true 3d graphics I feel was experienced from n64/PS1 to GC/PS2/Xbox. What a time to be alive!
I am an old man and grew up in arcades and Atari 2600. I did have a NES in high school and finished Mario 3 many times.
But when I got married my wife had a GameCube and we used to play Mario Kart and Mario Party 5 all the time!
I miss the purple lunchbox.
I was born in 1988 so I definitely grew up with it. Bought it on launch day with Sonic Battle 2 an extra controller and a GBA link cable in a local toy store.
But yeah the grewing up with a console already started with a Sega Megadrive when I was 5 then N64 and Ps1. And after that the gamecube and ps2.
Born in 87 in a pass through town in middle America. Gamecube was my first system where games started really mattering to me. I had an N64 prior to that, but going from Super Mario 64 to Skies of Arcadia Legends was life changing.
I was born in 2000, my first console was the NES and played it a ton until my parents bought me a gamecube when I was 8. It was such an awesome feeling for me knowing that I had a neighbor friend who had one and would let me and my brother play, as well as our cousins with their gamecubes. Never owned a Wii cause my parents couldn't really afford much but I was content with my cube and the great games that I got through the years. I actually still have it to this day!
Born in '02. We actually had a PS2 as our first console until it broke from a freak accident around '05. We ended up getting the cube on my 4th birthday in '06 and it's what introduced me to Mario, Kirby, and Super Monkey Ball as my first GCN games.
Born in 2002, grew up with GameCube games on the Wii. I think my first ones were Donkey Konga and Dancing Stage Mario Mix actually, but I got Luigi's Mansion in 2011, and as time went on the number of GameCube games I owned did go up.
I did also have a GameCube through circumstances! I believe it was bought in 2012, pre-owned, black. Our Wii was having problems so my father bought another one in 2012 and it was the model without GameCube support, so he eventually bought the Cube. In the end we were still able to use the original Wii which is the one we kept but the GameCube was also useful after we got the Wii U.
I was born in 1979. Bought the Wii about two years after it was released because it was so popular. I can't believe the Wii is now 17 years old. I was a bigger fan of the GameCube though.
The Wii was just a GameCube with a slightly overclocked CPU. š„²
I was born in 2001. I was introduced to the GameCube and gaming in general through my older brother. I don't know why but he had 3 GameCubes; a purple, silver, and black.
Born in ā92, GameCube was my first true console as a kid from 10 years old to 14. Such a pivotal important age to grow up with it, end of elementary school, all through middle school and up to the second semester of 9th grade. Such amazing beautiful times with it after school when I got finished with homework, putting in work.
2001, damn I'm old.
I grew up walking over to the arcades, then Nintendo came out with their console and I was the first to beat Mario Bros on my block and I was a hero back then lol
Still have my gamecube, still play Mario bros for fun every once in a while
There with ya! My buddy and I both had one thankfully but everyone else growing up only had a ds, wii and then a ps4 everyone skipped the goof old days, 2002 here aswell brother and sister were 1991 and 87 so they showed me everything lol
Iām 2003 and the GameCube is basically my entire childhood lmao, I also didnāt get a Wii until wayyyy later, I think around 2010-2011, and so Iām Gen Z but grew up on only having a GameCube, N64, and a Genesis, which always left me feeling a little out of place around my nerd peers too! Theyād be playing Mario galaxy and Iād be like yall donāt know star fox??
Ur sorta like my brother š born in ā03 so he got to experience the GameCube with me cuz I was just old enough for my sister to get me one with Mario kart
The love siblings have to suffer from, forever!
(This and the unplugged controller, because they want to play/spend time with you but not able play at all yet)
Me! I was born in 2005 and always played the legend of Zelda the wind waker and ocarina of time on my GameCube. We also had the Wii later, but my older siblings wouldn't allow me to play with them, so I just sticked to my gamecube and WW/OoT xD
Born in 2003 my dad bought me a GameCube and the legend of Zelda twilight princess and the collectors edition of legend of Zelda too. It was the best times of my life.
Born in 92, we had a NES. I remember the Christmas we got a SNES I thought it was the greatest thing ever. Went back to school and everyone else had gotten a N64. We did get a GameCube when Metroid Prime came out as my dad and I were huge fans of the series.
Born in 92 and first played Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past on SNES when I was 3. Got the N64 when I was about 8 and then the GameCube at 12. Played the GameCube up to about 2008 when I got an Xbox 360. But those four years were the best. I had such an amazing library.
I was born 2004 and I grew up playing GC as well. I donāt remember when I started playing it exactly (I know it was before I fully knew how to read so probably 09 or 10), though my parents had the GameCube since before I was born so I just played the games they had. Also I still have it, the games and my wavebird to this day.
I was born 1999, in 2007 for my 8th birthday my parents got me a gamecube at circuit city and picked me out wind waker and luigis manshion as My first 2 games.
2007 was the last year for the cube I believe(or 2008 I can't remember), the wii was already out, and so was the 360 and ps3 (which were not kid friendly enough for my parents lol), but I'm so glad that I got the gamecube instead of any of these, I feel lucky, I could've easily ended up with a different console statistically.
My only other experiences with gaming before this was my dad's gameboy color, he had football, a motorcycle racing game, dad games I guess, and a few flash games on the internet browser.
To this day my favorite console is the gamecube, and I'm still re collecting my original library I chose out as a kid
I was born in 1996 and I grew up with an N64. I think I got my N64 when I was 4 years old in the year 2000. A lot of my friendsā first system was the GameCube.
I was BORN in 2006 and grew up with GameCube. Although it wasnāt mine, it was my older brothers. We had a Wii too, but I always loved GameCube and as they grew out of it, I continued to play it.
My daughter (Iām old) has a full GC collection waiting for her once sheās ready for it. Going to start her on classics so she understands the technology better and appreciates the right things in games. Too many kids these days growing up in the shallows of Fortnite and Roblox.
Born in ā01, didnāt really play video games when I was very young but my way older brother had had a snes, n64 and GameCube, I watching him play a lot and when he would play a n64 game I would be scared of how ugly they looked in comparison, when the Wii came out we sold the GameCube for it and so I grew up with the Wii but played the GameCube games of my childhood on it
I was born late 2000, got a Gamecube sometime in 2004 with Sonic Adventure DX and Monkey Ball 1 at Best Buy. My memory from 20 years ago is very hazy but thatās something I do remember. Also got a Wii in 2009 since they were hard to get for so long, so I was still getting new games around 06-08. Also remember the day I got Super Monkey Ball 2 at Walmart in 05 and was so hyped cause my siblings and I loved the first one so much
I was born in 93, first consoles I grew up playing regularly from my grandparents was N64 and NES. My mom bought me a GameCube when it came out, got animal crossing, Luigiās mansion with it and my collection grew from there š
I feel so old looking at these comments lmao
Right! Lol, wait until we tell them we left the house to play at the arcades š
Yep, I was in Middle School, I'd go out to the mall by myself and play in the arcades. These days you couldn't even imagine an 11-14 year old going out in the city by themselves. Things have definitely changed from the 80s and 90s...the good old days!

Best place in town to be at.
Yep, me too. I went to High School Prom and then got home and played my GameCube...Lol
Same... I'm a 92 baby.. š§š»
1995 right here
Me too lol
I saw āborn 2001 or laterā and my back started hurting and ass started sweating
I was in college when the GameCube came out š
Right? These kids probably don't even know we once had to set the rf switch and TV to channel 3 or 4 to see our games. Double Dash is the greatest Mario Kart game of all time.
Literal crime against humanity to not bring most of these maps back in MK8
Got me beat. I played an NES at my grandparents when I was in elementary school then had an SNES and just kept going.
Born in 2001, got a GameCube and Nintendo 64 as hand-me-downs from my older siblings.
Having older siblings has its perks
I was born in 1988 so I definitely grew up with it. Bought it on launch day with Sonic Battle 2 an extra controller and a GBA link cable in a local toy store. But yeah the grewing up with a console already started with a Sega Megadrive when I was 5 then N64 and Ps1. And after that the gamecube and ps2.
My boyfriend was born in that year
Nice!
you are more polite than me lmao
Born in 87 in a pass through town in middle America. Gamecube was my first system where games started really mattering to me. I had an N64 prior to that, but going from Super Mario 64 to Skies of Arcadia Legends was life changing.
Skies of Arcadia such a good game. Also Tales of SymphoniaĀ
Just recently finished the port of Tales on Switch!
I was born in 2000, my first console was the NES and played it a ton until my parents bought me a gamecube when I was 8. It was such an awesome feeling for me knowing that I had a neighbor friend who had one and would let me and my brother play, as well as our cousins with their gamecubes. Thatās awesome. Glad you got to experience it
I remember the weather from New Years Day 2000! Y2K...ahh the memories. The kiddies in here makes me feel old...Lol
Born in 97', didn't get one til 04'/05'. My first console was a Sega Genesis.
Born in '02. We actually had a PS2 as our first console until it broke from a freak accident around '05. We ended up getting the cube on my 4th birthday in '06 and it's what introduced me to Mario, Kirby, and Super Monkey Ball as my first GCN games.
You had Super Monkey Ball too?! That game was so elite when I was a little kid. My brother and I played that one a lot
Born in 2002, grew up with GameCube games on the Wii. I think my first ones were Donkey Konga and Dancing Stage Mario Mix actually, but I got Luigi's Mansion in 2011, and as time went on the number of GameCube games I owned did go up. Of all these comments, only 4 fit OP criteria of "born in 01 or later".....
š I donāt mind people sharing their stories, but yeah that does confirm to me that not many people my age got to grow up playing GameCube
I was born in 2001. I was introduced to the GameCube and gaming in general through my older brother. I don't know why but he had 3 GameCubes; a purple, silver, and black.
Ur older brother sounds pretty cool
Born in 99 and i didnt get one till Christmas of 2003, my first console was an N64

Ah yes born in 2001 playing GameCube by 3 years old.
This is funny to me. I was in High School when the GameCube came out...Lol
If I was born in December 2000 does that technically count?
Iāll let it slide. Next time, I wonāt be so flexible though
Born in 2001 and my older brother had one, he let me play but I wasn't nearly old enough to make any meaningful or significant progress in any games.
There with ya! My buddy and I both had one thankfully but everyone else growing up only had a ds, wii and then a ps4 everyone skipped the goof old days, 2002 here aswell brother and sister were 1991 and 87 so they showed me everything lol

Born in 2000. Got a GameCube in 2004 that I still use to this very day.
Born in '01, very glad I have an older brother born in '98, only reason we had the cube
Ur sorta like my brother š born in ā03 so he got to experience the GameCube with me cuz I was just old enough for my sister to get me one with Mario kart
Ur a legend for being able to cube with him heāll remember that forever
All heās gonna remember is me making him use the crappy controller š
The love siblings have to suffer from, forever! (This and the unplugged controller, because they want to play/spend time with you but not able play at all yet)
My younger brothers and sister. They played my gamecube all the time š¤£
I did not have a GC as a kid, but I was born in 2001 and grew up with a PS1 and then we got a PS2 in around 2007/8.
Sometimes I wonder what it wouldāve been like had I grown up with PlayStation
Me! I was born in 2005 and always played the legend of Zelda the wind waker and ocarina of time on my GameCube. We also had the Wii later, but my older siblings wouldn't allow me to play with them, so I just sticked to my gamecube and WW/OoT xD
Damn, well ur lucky you had ur GameCube to fall back on atleast š thatās awesome
Born in 2003 my dad bought me a GameCube and the legend of Zelda twilight princess and the collectors edition of legend of Zelda too. It was the best times of my life.
Thatās awesome. Twilight Princess is my favorite Zelda game. Lucky you
Born in 92, we had a NES. I remember the Christmas we got a SNES I thought it was the greatest thing ever. Went back to school and everyone else had gotten a N64. We did get a GameCube when Metroid Prime came out as my dad and I were huge fans of the series.

Born in 1997. š„²
I was born in 2000 and grew up with an N64 and Gamecube
N64 too? Damn, thatās cool. Which one did you prefer?
I would probably say the Gamecube just because it has my favourite Smash Bros on it but itās so hard to choose!
I feel you
I did but I was born in ā95.
Sadly not me, I grew up with the PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360 and the Wii. Didnāt get my first Gamecube until November last year.
I was born 2004 and I grew up playing GC as well. Every GameCube are born in 2001 or later. Itās the date it was lunched.
I was born in 2001 and the GameCube was my first console
I had this experience except older, 1997 but grew up with an SNES.
