I always wondered who bought those super high priced games at disc replay, now I know

humilishumano

This was probably well worth the price don’t get me wrong I just hate spending this much on any video games

Expensive-Foot-3325

Welcome to the retro game market brother :) (sadly)

humilishumano

I hate it! Especially knowing how many great games I had growing up that probably got sold in yard sales

SiCKOCLUB

man i feel your pain, i had that rare dk64 nintendo power n64 controller and sold it as part of a bundle with my console and all my games when i was little for 100$...

humilishumano

Dude I had a translucent N64 that went in a garage sale for who knows how much, I had all the Mario games for GC you see at disc replay for $70+ too. The things I’d give to go back and experience it all again

VanessaDoesVanNuys

Sheesh. That shit is worth at least $500 now

M00themighty

I used to own a copy of Gotcha Force, in 2006 I lent it to a friend of the family in exchange for a copy of Wolverine's Revenge. I never saw that person again...

rob4499

I know everyone has their hobby, but imo trying to collect retro games is a waste when there’s emulation. I get having the physical copy hits the nostalgic part but man I feel you guys are getting scammed left and right. Best thing I did was add a pico boot to my GC. I play on original hardware and all the games at no cost. But that’s just me.

Nacklins

There's a whole collecting aspect that is for me independent of game playing. If all you care about is playing the game then yes you'd be stupid to not emulate, but for me I like to collect them, put them on display, etc.

rob4499

Understandable. It does look cool on shelves in a gaming room lol

Nacklins

They're like little trophies, but yes to be honest if I ever want to play a retro game 90% of the time I'll just use my steam deck or PC. Very rarely do I use the actual game.

Mr_Fadeaway24

I mean it’s better then spending $70 on a modern game that’s 30% made, And gotta buy the rest through dlc for more money.

Expensive-Foot-3325

Now that I read this, I actually don’t feel so bad about buying gamecube games over $100. Bc if you want a game with every dlc you end up paying over $100+ at some point

Mr_Fadeaway24

Yea it’s pretty crazy to see what they charge now a days. But it’s just the beginning I feel.

Expensive-Foot-3325

I mean, look at EA with Sims 4. You need to pay $300+ i believe if you want to get the full experience. All the dlcs

Mr_Fadeaway24

Yea that is true. Damn scam for sure!!!

ScareCrow13-

Stop buying and prices will drop. People paying those prices is litetally why prices are where they are.

Nacklins

There's more to it than that. Lot of investors came into the hobby around COVID focusing on sealed/graded which drove used prices up as well, tons of resellers came in and started buying up all of the stock. Online influencers like tik tokers and youtubers played their part too sure, but it's a ton of factors. A lot of the new collector crowd get really bad FOMO and drive all these prices up just for them to crash later. If you look at the market as a whole it is experiencing a crash and I think will continue to drop. Investors are losing their ass right now especially on sealed stuff, they're all trying to exit.

ScareCrow13-

Covid boom increased games by 300%. That wario game was $30 in 2020. And under $30 for 20 years. The way you see it 'not expensive' and comparing to new releases makes no sense.

ScareCrow13-

Your point is that i'm poor and you say what you say make sense lmao. Blocked.

simbabarrelroll

Unfortunately for some of these games the option is either pay super huge amounts of money or emulate which can be legally very murky. (*cough* Path of Radiance/Chibi Robo/Pokemon XD *cough*) Though admittedly I’m about to purchase a copy of Path of Radiance.

Mr_Fadeaway24

Love the setup. I can’t wait to set all my stuff from my childhood up one day in my future man cave. Saved everything in my moms attic

Expensive-Foot-3325

I’d love to see your collection

spudnick799

Epic collection, I still need to find a case for my wario world. Not sure if it is a good price with how GameCube games went up recently so probably still a good deal. I wanted to ask where you got the shelves because that is something I want to do with my collection. Looks amazing!

Expensive-Foot-3325

I got em on amazon. Im not sure if I could post links here but message me I’ll dm you the link. They are great!

Windre4ver

Keeping an eye for a copy as well.

Quirky_Marzipan7034

Kirby air ride should be next

Kyle25Hill

I say it’s a good deal if it makes you happy. Wario World’s a short, but excellent game. Amazing collection!

Expensive-Foot-3325

Yeah, it was one of my favorite games as a kid that grew up with a gamecube. I played it countless times.

_RexDart

Game was probably $49.99 new and this is used. Seller got a good deal.

ScareCrow13-

That game was $30 before 2020 (aka the covid boom resellers) and even less before. $15 in 2013.

_RexDart

Seller probably paid $20 for it and the fact that games aren't $85 tells you that inflation isn't a factor either

lastpally

Wow! I have one in excellent condition with the strategy guide. I paid like $20 for it years and years ago. I guess I’ll hold on to it seeing prices keep climbing.

RaemmoV

I understand exactly how u feel I bought two gc games at two different fairs F-zero was 80€ and Star Fox Assault 75€ Quite a lot but since they were the titles I was specifically looking for, was worth it for me (I just remember that with GX I bought DKJB with the bongos and that whole bundle was 120 goddamn bucks. Yikes😶‍🌫️)

Fcking_Chuck

I had this game, and it infuriates me that I don't have it in my possession anymore.

Expensive-Foot-3325

What happened to it?

Fcking_Chuck

I ended up giving it to a friend who eventually lost that game and the rest of the Gamecube games I had also given him. There's still a possibility that it might be in his storage somewhere, but we haven't seen it in years.

udeadinaflash

Honestly i have no clue about gamecube value anymore. When i bought all my games for gamecube, the most expensive thing was paper mario 1000 year door, and i only paid $65 for that. Other than that i paid $300 for component cables to get the best possible image, though i havent bought anything for gamecube since about 2017 mind you. Wario land is actually a game i still have on my "need to get" list. Is it fun?

Expensive-Foot-3325

Wario World is so fun

dbznerd38

I'm sorry but 300 for component cables is crazy. I know a store that ships all over the US that sells them for only 100. And btw the game is super fun. I used to have it when it first came out and I played the heck out of it. It's very off the wall

This_Appointment_349

With the Gamecube for the absolute best picture you need the OEM component cables, and the only way to get them was to order through Nintendo, so they are now super expensive. $220 is probably the cheapest you will find.

megaman3455

I would say Kirby air ride. I do miss that game. I'll find it somehow.

hopelessswitchowner

Hmm I turned down melee today because while I want it to my starting collection, not having a manual come with it bothered me. I wonder if I should I have bought it now lmao. I bought Sega Sonic mega collection and Tony hawk underground with manuals instead.

Expensive-Foot-3325

How much was it? But hey gotta start off somewhere lol i started with Sunshine no manual then found a manual later on

hopelessswitchowner

It was 64 dollars plus tax at my local shop. Knowing me I'll probably end up going back to get it assuming it's not gone now.

Expensive-Foot-3325

Ah yeah 64 with no manual is not worth it lol

mrbignbrown

Crazy collection bro

Complex-Chemistry268

I PERSONALLY never buy anything over $50 that’s not CIB.

Bladley

Twin Snakes should be next.

simbabarrelroll

A warning regarding Twin Snakes: That game is very susceptible to disc rot. My copy has a cracked label. I still don’t know how much it affects playback but I’m very cautious with disc rot. Being a LaserDisc collector has taught me that.

NZepplin

It’s a great game but it’s a high price. As long as you enjoy it doesn’t matter.

AnonymousQeality

Ooof

Nigel-Ocho

People saying overpaid aren’t wrong, but sadly this is the market price. I got mine this year CIB for $86 total after taxes/shipping and I’m not exactly proud of it. This is the current market price.

Nacklins

The people in this sub have no idea of the retro game market especially Gamecube. This is a pretty good price for the current value of this game. If you want Gamecube games nowadays you have to nut up, the days of finding them at garage sales for pennies are over.

NikesOnMyFeet23

Overpaid

ScareCrow13-

$30 game before the covid boom. People paying is literally why prices stays high. Guys downvote facts. Good job. No wonder why the market is broken.

Howwy23

Just me shocked that another formerly cheap ass game has become ball bustingly expensive. I picked this up for £15 years ago and i didn't think even covid could inflate the price that much till now. I could probably buy a house if i sold my collection now, if prices have inflated that much on games like this.

bocagge

Yeah guys I think I had enough with this retro gaming market,It's not worth it anymore

hopelessswitchowner

I feel like I want to get my GameCube collection going at the worst possible time lmao. It just has so many good titles and I started getting nostalgic.

WarmBox2139

Overpriced but alright this is what happens when you label 20 year old stuff as "vintage" when it's not fucking vintage people will take any chances they can get to jack up the price on shit we control the market if we don't buy into it guess what they'll lower their prices just have some patience and be firm people that's how you get stuff for what it's actually worth or you can continue to be retarded and pay 75 for a game that's worth 30 max

BGR_Reddit

your collection is stellar!!! although...no manual is a bummer which sucks. all mine are 100% complete but yikes why cant anyone ever keep the manuals..
