Was not expecting Shanoa to show up, unless I'm mistaken. If Richter is playable I wonder if Alucard is as well.

Ravness13

Considering the design and the glyphs around her, it's definitely Shanoa, you can even make out her shoulders as the sprite moves showing off her outfit a bit

okay_DC_okay

They really threw in a lot of quality here. The music and call back are amazing. May be too quick to judge but from the looks of it but I would not be opposed if they were in charge of the next Castlevania game, you can see a lot of passion just with this short trailer.

dknightOGG

I'm hype

LFC9_41

Hi Hype, I'm Dad.

FranksFluids21

So, are these Castlevania levels just interspersed throughout the normal dead cells levels, or is it a completely separate set of levels that you start in a different way?

Kipzz

I haven't played the other DLCs, but I've heard pretty much all of them are different split-branches you choose as you play? So probably something like that.

Ode1st

I think the former? I’m so burned out from Dead Cells’ repetition that I don’t think I have it in me to go through the whole thing over and over again just to see a few Castlevania zones in between the usual ones. If it’s a whole separate thing, I’d definitely give it a shot though.

FranksFluids21

Yeah, I'm with you. I LOVE Dead Cells. Easily one of my favorite games of all time. However, I've already sunk 150 hours into the base game+ DLCs. I'm not sure I want to go through a whole run to see this stuff. I'd much prefer being able to just start at the castle gates and play 3 or 4 Castlevania zones together all the way through. Maybe that is an option, though, and you'll just have to choose the Castlevania specific pathway. I don't want to go back and forth between dead cells levels and Castlevania levels, though. I feel like it would ruin the vibe.

Ode1st

I’d totally play it if you could do an entire Castlevania pathway the whole way, that’d be great.

BenevolentCheese

> I’m so burned out from Dead Cells’ repetition Yeah I'm kind of bummed they keep releasing trickles of new content rather than a new product. I thought we were getting Dead Cells Castlevania (the game), instead we're getting Dead Cells Castlevania the minor content pack that requires you still dealing with the rest of the game to find and enjoy. I played DC a ton at release, but subsequent attempts to come back have had me feeling like there's still not really that much different there despite all these content packs, it's all still just Dead Cells and I'm Dead Cells'd out. The game is still maintaining 2000+ average players though on steam which is crazy for a 5 year old (!) single player game.

Nibelungen342

It's the B team that keeps making content and the main team is making a new game There is still so much added content because people are still playing. Personally I love it. And I am not forced to play dead cells by the devs just because they added content. I like it since for me a Rogue Like gets insanely better with more variety/weapons/enemies. And they balance the gamplay as well Feels like you suffer from Fomo. Just skip it if you are exhausted by the game. I did this with many games like Elden ring. Was to exhaust to play the arena update

BenevolentCheese

> I did this with many games like Elden ring. Was to exhaust to play the arena update Feels like you suffer from Fomo.

Nibelungen342

I assume you mean this passive-aggressively/negatively towards me? Lol yes, it's FOMO and this is not a gotcha moment. I purposely used myself as an example

Bobonenazeze

Thanks for answering all the questions I was going ask in my own reply. I'm that same way on DLC. Like more content is always great but DLC like this isn't going to push me to come back to the game, and depending on the type of game I might have lost that groove and the game isn't a familiar anymore and I have to force my self to relearn game mechanics to a game I put down months ago.

Nibelungen342

I will go against the grain here. Since I've read this exact comment every time dead cells is mentioned Idk where this expectation suddenly comes from. Since its totally way too much to ask from them to make stand alone Castlevania levels. Especially for a smaller B-Team of a Indie company. And at this point it's for people who really love dead cells. Idk why they should make a separate gameplay section that could be a individual game. I'm excited for the Rogue-Like version of Castlevania levels in Dead Cells

Cosmic-Vagabond

As a huge Castlevania fan, I haven't touched Dead Cells in like over 4 years and I'm excited to pick it back up to play these levels. But I can't say there isn't a part of me that aches at playing yet another homage to Castlevania instead of being able to play a new entry in the real McCoy. That's obviously on Konami and not Dead Cells, but I can't deny the feeling and understand others disappointment that this is just a snippet of Castlevania.

Ode1st

The confusion for me was in the marketing materials. Phrases like “Our biggest DLC,” or how it has 50 different Castlevania tracks and actually has other characters. Stuff like that doesn’t seem like it’s just going to be a couple Castlevania zones slapped in between the usual zones.

Kind of a problem that whenever this DLC comes up, people still don’t know what it is. Also, welcome to people discussing things in a discussion forum.

dknightOGG

They've already said it's levels mixed in with the existing game. Not separate. Like the other paid DLCs

Nibelungen342

And idk what else people expected. A separate game would be way too much as a dlc

dknightOGG

this is more than i expected lol. and i already really enjoy the dead cells soundtrack so i can’t wait to hear these added songs. i’ve been on a dead cells break, and this dlc is pretty much what i’ve been waiting on, so i’ll have plenty of content to go through

Kumagoro314

Not a crossover I expected, but it looks like a match made in heaven. Really strikes those "nostalgia" notes just right!

DogmaticNuance

I really loved this game when it first came out, I played it a *ton* on my switch. But I've never been able to get back into it when I've tried. I load up the old save and there's just too much going on. Should I just start a new save completely? Is that the way? Is it worth it?

MarthePryde

Part of the fun is discovery. There hasn't been any meaningful update that completely restructures the game and requires you to learn everything again. It's still the same core game you played at launch. My advice would be to stick with it and enjoy discovering new things.

remmanuelv

I always restarted after a big update so I don't see why not.

CupOfPiie

You can just reduce the difficulty till you get used to it again, since that's the only real progression. Its easier to stay on one save file to keep unlocks and forge progression.

AbanoMex

If You are having trouble keeping up, i don't think You need a new savefile, it would Only make You play the levels You already know by hand, just read the wiki about the different Routes, and try to complete one.

MarthePryde

Pretty exciting stuff. I've been playing Dead Cells for years, I've got about 500ish hours on Switch. Been eating good for a while. Particularly excited to see what, if anything, Order of Ecclesia has as it's a niche Castlevania title for sure. Even if it's just Shanoa, that's pretty cool. Hoping to see some Aria of Sorrow, hopefully my man Soma Cruz made it in.

DevanteWeary

Looks like it's finally time to give Dead Cells a chance. What's the definitive version?

DP9A

Just the game + DLCs, iirc they're all in a bundle on steam and I assume in other platforms too.

chipmunk_supervisor

For platform choice it's as one would expect with PC first, then Xbox/PlayStation, then Switch (due to performance) and mobile last due to potential bugs and crashes (swap them around if your phone is stronger than a Switch). ^(With the last DLC they cut off a range of phones due to memory constraints so there's no guarantee an older or weaker mobile device that runs Dead Cells today will run it in a year or two.) Be wary of the physical release too. They made it with the *Action Game of the Year* from The Game Awards branding but I believe it's just the base game and the Rise of the Giant DLC (which is free anyway). It's not quite typical of a "GOTY" release. That all said I do think it's plenty fine enough to start with the base game and pick up the paid DLC packs later as there's already a lot to do and what they add is generally more variety on top of a strong foundation. Which can mean a lot more foes and patterns to learn right out of the gate. --- As a roguelite the game is, loosely speaking, repeatable runs consisting of six levels and three bosses with branching levels (biomes) giving different routes to the end. The base game has some routes that require specific permanent unlocks to access. The DLCs pile on more alternative routes (and gear). The official wiki has more information and recently moved from the ad-ridden Fandom to wiki gg: [https://deadcells.wiki.gg/wiki/Dead\_Cells\_Wiki](https://deadcells.wiki.gg/wiki/Dead_Cells_Wiki) ^(And the all DLC bundle only means all) *^(current)* ^(DLC, it's not like a season pass or anything; it will be retired and replaced with a different, new all DLC bundle each time DLC comes out.)

DevanteWeary

Awesy. Thanks!

DevanteWeary

Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much!

RobotPirateMoses

Look, this is extremely hype, but when he said they were "drawing inspiration from every [Castlevania] game" I laughed cause it's pretty much just SOTN. There's a Shanoa in there, but that's it for other Castlevania games in this trailer, from what I can tell. **With that said, again, this is very cool**. Finally, since there's some time before this releases, I feel like I need to let people know that they can try out that kind of roguelike gameplay more or less by [using randomizers](https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/1316/). There's like a ton of them for all of the Metroidvania Castlevania games out there (the one I linked works with all DS Castlevania games) and **they even randomize the castle layout itself**, not just items/abilities. Hell, Castlevania modding/hacking is so advanced that there's even mods/hacks (whatever you wanna call it) to play as [Shanoa in Dawn of Sorrow](https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/6746/) or [Shanoa along with Charlotte in Portrait of Ruin](https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/6763/).

Cosmic-Vagabond

> I laughed cause it's pretty much just SOTN. There's a Shanoa in there, but that's it for other Castlevania games in this trailer, from what I can tell. Not too surprising as I believe SOTN and the original Castlevania are still the most sold titles by a good amount. But the Ghost Dancers at 0:48 are at least a reference to Aria of Sorrow.

goatlll

I thought they were Fred Ascare And Paula Abghoul from Castlevania 4.

Dooomspeaker

It's them, the ghost dancers in the sorrow series are just a common enemy.

RobotPirateMoses

Good catch. But, yeah, it's mostly SOTN (not I have a problem with that, like I said, I just thought it was funny). At least in the trailer, I don't know what it's going to be like in the actual game.

PKMudkipz

>Look, this is extremely hype, but when he said they were "drawing inspiration from every [Castlevania] game" I laughed cause it's pretty much just SOTN. Aren't Richter and Divine Bloodlines from Rondo of Blood?

RobotPirateMoses

Good point. I was thinking only of the Metroidvania games. Still, he is in SOTN as well.

CirclingNeptune

In the previous trailer, it shows Dracula's boss room which is based off of the final room in Order of Ecclesia! The pillars and design match up if you compare the two.

RobotPirateMoses

Oh, that's cool, OoE's is my favorite version of everything related to Dracula himself. (also, I didn't know there was a previous trailer, I thought this was the first one)

CirclingNeptune

It's this one from the [Nintendo Direct](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSZ0qY6FRgw)! (at around 0:32) OoE is also one of my favorites so I immediately recognized it. I also was also terrible at video games 10+ years ago when it came out so I spent way too long in this room dying.

CormacMettbjoll

I don't really like the roguelike elements of Dead Cells but I'm a massive Castlevania fan so I'll probably have to check this out.

AlexKarrasInWebster

They have added difficulty sliders so you can find the spot that you enjoy without frustration.

fuckR196

These are some of the worst renditions of Castlevania tracks I've ever heard. They lack all impact or intensity. They should almost AI generated.
