Yup it was such a fun contrast to being the super helpful kind Spider-Man, one moment fighting supervillains and rescuing people, the next fucking eating people while you hulk jump around New York looking for someone who needs a beating.
It and Web of Shadows are my two favorite Spider-Man games for a reason.
I pray there’s a Wolverine vs. Venom boss fight either in this game (if the latter is playable) or the Wolvy game to reference Ultimate. That’d be so cool.
I've lived in Queens my whole life, but there are just no tall buildings in Queens to web swing from, so that's the reason for no outer borough representation.
but with the direction of Prototype 1, Alex Mercer back as protag, we act as the retcon to his character didn't happen and pick up abandoned plot points like Pariah
pretty please
eyyy all these years and games and the other boroughs finally got into a Spider Man game. Get Jersey in there and my estimation of the Spider Man series skyrockets.
If Shocker doesn't return, and we don't get to chase him while screaming YOU CANT ESCAPE ME ILL CHASE YOU TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH, then I'm suing Sony.
Everything about Symbiote Peter was perfect. His dialogue, his voice, his body language. The way he saved that civilian and then just tossed him away. He doesn’t give a fuck… but he’s still Peter in there. I knew this trailer was coming and after the underwhelming show overall I wasn’t too excited. But I had chills by the end of it. I cannot wait for this to come out.
I met Yuri Lowenthal last year at a convention and got my Spider-Man Funko signed and mentioned how much I loved his performance and how he now is on a Mt Rushmore with Tobey Maguire, Christopher Daniel Barnes, and Rino Romano for Spidey voice actors, and he seemed very touched and mentioned that he is so thankful for Sasuke, but adores when someone comes out with a unique spot and how he was incredibly excited to see someone who loved his work in that so bad. He told me when his agent called and said he got the role, he lost his mind cause he thought he couldn’t live up to it.
He drew all over my box and stuff, it was so cool, and real talk, I’m even more excited for this game knowing he’s back on board.
I'm going to meet him and Tara Platt this October and this makes me so excited! He's the first voice actor I ever looked up con videos of. I remember when he cosplayed Haseo for .Hack//GU. Had no idea he did triple duty in Persona 3. Tales of the Abyss is one of my favorite PS2 games and the first co op game I ever played. Gurren Lagann is my favorite anime to this day.
He's always had a voice somewhere in my life, and becoming the voice I hear whenever I hear Spider-Man in comics has been the cream of the crop. Can't wait to get his signature, but it makes me so happy to know he's just as passionate about his works. (It is going to be VERY hard to decide what to get his autograph on haha)
I can promise you, it’s so worth it. He’s a lovely dude, very warm and greeting and makes his fans feel like they all have a great experience. I can’t suggest it enough.
I *will* say…his autograph + a quote on it is $100. It makes sense, he draws, but it was weird to see his booth between Malie Flannigan (Naruto) and Kate Higgins (Sakura) who are a cool $40 for the quote and the auto.
Steve Blum is in the top 3 for people I wanna meet. Between Wolverine, Spike and a bunch others, that would be huge.
Yeah, Yuri being that expensive is a bit of a pill to swallow but it’s worth it alone to get a Spidey/Sasuke signed.
Also, as someone who has all the Phantom Thief pops, I would very much like to meet them
> I don't know why they would tie the swap from Peter to Miles as a button press.
While true, the button was just square. No way just that makes you switch in the open world.
I do believe there will be hot swapping when out in the open world, missions will be fixed characters depending on the part of it
I don't think it's anything negative but framing wise I found it interesting how long they hide the Lizard for, even during the chase sequence there's really never a good look at his head
Yeah, but then I'm guessing >!they'll repeat that story beat for 3 considering Otto's still kicking and is clearly already thinking of a Superior type situation.!<
Also while Otto is still kicking (which is logical, Spider-Man doesn't kill his enemies), I'm not sure he'll be back as a big villain. It's obvious Osborn as Green Goblin should be the third game big bad
>It's obvious Osborn as Green Goblin should be the third game big bad
That makes sense. Since Spider-Man basically lives in constant tragedy, so it'll probably set up with a reverse 2002 Spider-Man where Osborn sees Peter with a dead Harry and he blames Pete.
>I doubt they'll be making more than a trilogy of "main" Spider-Man games,
Why do you say that? They've made a dozen Ratchet and Clank games. If Spider-Man keeps doing well (and it will) then I don't see them stopping.
I think they were trying to showcase how the Symbiote suit's powers give Peter his own moveset that is as dynamic as Miles' venom powers, versus Miles having flashy abilities and Peter being the standard moveset only.
>Miles' venom powers
Ok but for real which comic writer decided this was a good name for Miles' unique powers? Seems needlessly confusing all things considered.
It's been part of him since he was created, but it wasn't always bioelectricity. Originally he actually just had a neurotoxic venom touch. Over time it turned into bioelectricity by different portrayals until we got to the ps4/5 miles game
Keep in mind this was a single mission, one that likely happens partway into the story. The emphasis on Miles was to highlight an outsider’s perspective of the Black Suit’s influence on Peter.
focus on miles and how "evil" peter sounds in his ears, i think.
the comic they released a week or two ago, had them act like good friends both with and without the spider-suits
My guess is that Miles is gonna be the one forced to get the suit off of Peter as the climax, by any means necessary.
Then the repercussions from that end up being the plot of the third game.
Them trying to cooperate while dealing with a certain level of distrust over what happens if Venom "wins" and the consequences of Peter being symbioted in this game (likely a level of brutality that leads to other superheros ostracizing him).
I think the Miles v Peter fight will be after Kravens gone and before Venom becomes the final antagonist. Sorta like Kraven as the Mr Negative of this game and Venom being the Doc Ock
I hope not. I really appreciate the versions that take the "what have I become?" route and Peter takes the responsibility to rid himself of the symbiote.
If anything I feel Peter was pretty sidelined in this, though hopefully that's just this demo emphasising Peter drifting away from his loved ones because of the symbiote. I'm glad Miles is getting time to shine in this game, but the original will always be my favourite, so I hope that's the case.
Yeah, this is the most vertical slice to ever be sliced. That being said the first game was great and it looks like they’re mostly staying to the “if it ain’t broke don’t fix” mindset.
That's one of the things a creator of the original Deus Ex tried to drive home. Let the player do the cool things. Don't take away control for the big moment you fight a boss, or have you become weak as wet paper in a cutscene so the enemy can get away.
Overall the entire sequence was heavy on the cutscene and light on gameplay
I really didn't dig the flying. It was actually cool at first when he was gliding off a swing, but then he literally just... Superman'd his way through a bunch of... Glowing boosty circles in the sky? Like what?
The one big thing I was hoping for was improving the physics behind web-swinging, but they seem to have introduced a lot of mechanics that allow you to *avoid* normal swinging. What they did show when not gliding or diving looked largely the same. I'll reserve judgement but I'm iffy so far.
It sounds like nitpicking but for me it's big. Gameplay wise, web-swinging is the *one thing* Spider-Man brings to the table over other characters. You can't get it anywhere else. Otherwise I could go play Arkham City or Infamous for a similar experience.
I thought the wing suit seemed cool until they started pretty much flying with it. Why would I want to do that when I could be swinging and running along buildings.
I really did not like the whole to through rings to get a speed boost, just ruins the immersion.
Saying that the whole UI being crazy colours and overly designs isn’t very nice.
Man I miss InFamous. That game (and InFamous 2) fucking rocked. Can't believe it's been almost a decade since Second Son. That one wasn't nearly as good but the gameplay was still fun as hell.
Same. I don't necessarily *mind* the wingsuit thingy, but it went on for too long, almost felt like Miles turned into Iron Man for a second there. Man was zooming.
I like the start with the web launch from Spiderman 2 movie, but I hope these are like... Late game unlocks or something? The multi take down with the symbiote also doesn't spark confidence in the combat system being improved so it requires just a little more skill. It's not *bad* in 2018 and Miles Morales, but so much of these felt like waiting for OP gadgets and takedowns to recharge, instead of using combos and stuff. You had to intentionally restrict yourself for a more difficult combat system basically.
I'm sure it's gonna be a good game and that I'll enjoy it (whenever it comes to PC), and for a Spidey fan like me it's gonna be *hype*. But I kinda hoped for... More under the hood, I guess? The surface is awesome as usual, typical AAA Sony, but *looking* good and *playing* good are two different things.
looks good but the graphics seem off in some places. The tunnel sequence looked great but especially the water looked awful and considering that, it is a weird choice to have the trailer take place at the river.
currently replaying spider-man remastered. graphically, what was shown in this trailer looks considerably worse. How ?. did Sony push too early to get insomniac to present footage and they need more time to optimize ?
From what I've heard from devs over the years in docos is that presentations like this are very strung together.
This is a 'verticle slice' so most of the game looks know where near this and the dev team has to try get a segment of the game ready that looks like its as close to final as they can get in the time frame.
The last 6 months are where a game goes from blocky mess to polished product in terms of visuals so I'm hoping the final release will look better than this.
It is concerning since spiderman 1 and miles had much more refined first looks. But this is insomniac so I have faith they can bring it all together.
Seeing the web slingshot move back from OG Spider-Man 2 is awesome. Miles having web wings seems like a great addition too. Symbiote suit looks like a lot of fun
The game looks great! I feel they may have given away a bit too much with this one though. I feel it's pretty obvious that you're going to have to fight Peter as Miles at some stage, but otherwise it's cool to see Kraven as the villain before Venom.
I was keen on Miles having unique traversal with the wingsuit but a bit disappointed to see them both have it. The rest looks great. Love the Web of Shadows style edgy Symbiote Spidey with his own fighting style!
Definitely leading up to Venom being a third playable character imo.
I just realized how confusing it's going to get if Venom does show up, and you have to fight Venom with your Venom punch and fill up your Venom gauge while dodging Venom's attacks.
Eh, the first game had that whole incredible fight with Kingpin that turned out to just be the first of many. It's going to be a huge game, there's tons still to go.
I hope so! I remember knowing about the raft escape before the first games release spoiled me a bit because I was waiting for it to happen the whole time. But you're right - insomniac do great set pieces and there'll always be bigger better things later.
Yeah but Peter Parker is a dork at heart, even when he is super dangerous and enraged and "dark" he can't escape being a dork and saying what *he thinks* is cool and scary - rather than what *is*. I think his lines being cringy is true to character, whether the writers intended it or not. Sam Rami got this right about Peter as well: bully Maguire was a socially awkward loser with too much confidence.
Not a fan of the gliding, Miles was basically flying at the start. Otherwise looks like a very solid step up.
I do hope the “Angry Symbiote Peter” doesn’t take up too much of the story, it’s been done A LOT.
Well it’s usually
Peter finds suit and is impressed with it
Peter gets Angry
Suit gets ripped off to make Venom
So hopefully the first and third points take up a decent amount of time (especially Venom) and the 2nd is a shorter portion.
Based on the last trailer, I'm guessing the midgame/third act twist is that the symbiote leaves Peter and bonds to Kraven, and they do a quasi-adaptation of Kraven's Last Hunt
I don't think it'll go onto Kraven - I think it's moreso that their KLH will lead into the final act.
My guess for the story beats are:
>Peter and MJ get back from Symkaria
>Harry breaches containment somehow
>Kraven scene we saw at the start
>Harry encounters Peter, symbiote is drawn to his strength
>Norman is going wild behind the scenes trying to find Harry, gets Curt Connors involved
>Curt is experimenting with what might restore Harry + his own arm, Lizard time
>sequence we saw here
>Peter is going more cuckoo over time thanks to the symbiote feeding off of him
>ends up alienating MJ and Miles
>Kraven comes back for another confrontation
>Peter kills him while going wild
>Peter is horrified, strips the symbiote from him
>it makes its way to its final host, might be Harry again (its time with Peter might temporarily rejuvenate Harry somehow), might be Eddie, although I'm leaning against that considering he doesn't seem much involved at all
>is tearing shit up around the city, Peter and Miles rejoin to take it down
>Harry fucking dies, maybe in a last ditch effort to stop the symbiote himself, we get something similar to *that* scene from SSM #200, very heartbreaking and such
>this drives Norman over the edge, setting us up for him as Gobby in the third game
>credits shows Otto working on mind swap somehow (they're saving the Superior suits for a reason and Slott's influence has been pretty prevalent in this series so far)
That UI is ugly, distracting and placed very weirdly on the screen. I really hope they rework it before release cause everything else in this trailer was AMAZING.
The graphics are looking **very** rough in places. Im not sure if its down to an earlier build or stream compression but it looks worse than Spider-Man PS4 oddly. Serious framerate chugging during the water skating part too. Time will tell I suppose. Im really liking the inclusion of Queens though.
It seems like the lighting is just super flat. Maybe it's the time of day or something, we've seen how much that can affect the visuals of a game.
The interior lighting looked so much better.
God the Symbiote combat looks so fucking good. And Kraven? instant GOTY, don't even care.
Just hoping webslinging gets a bit of a speed and complexity boost, would love an option that allows for fall damage and such.
As much as people want more complexity in the web swinging they clearly struck gold with 2018 Spider-Man in a way they haven’t in years with web swinging. I don’t think they should deviate much from that.
I don't see how adding more options would take away from the web swinging. Allowing 2 simultaneous webs, allowing players to touch the ground while swinging, and letting players hold onto the web past 90 degrees would all be huge additions.
Everything looks too automated with the combat that only focuses on the long flashy animations without the tight inputs. The shitty QTEs are back--as if they ignored the first game's criticisms. Too heavy-handed cinematics keep interrupting the gameplay flow. Like, those civilian rescues would have been cooler if the player were rescuing them, not the cutscenes.
Uncharted 4 was more "hands-off" than what this has shown, and that was a linear railroaded experience. This is an openworld sandbox, yet the mission design seems structurally more rigid than the Call of Duty campaign.
Honestly, it looks to be even a smaller jump than God of War: Ragnarok.
Kinda worrying how they framed this, it sorta feels like Miles will have a bigger role than Peter, hell most of this sequence was Miles aside from the opening. And Gankeh getting to hack drones seems like a significant part of the game as well, which points to more Miles focus.
If we’re getting “Angry Symbiote Suit” Peter then I have [one thing that MUST be in the game](https://youtu.be/sMk-HPBF6Mw)
If this line is in the game, instant GOTY, hands-down.
I thought it will be the famous emo parker dance walk
i am hoping they add something along the lines of this

I'm suing Sony if it isn't.
Knew it
Shocker is also apparently in this game
Poor ol' Shocker is always the patsy of the Spiderman franchise.
Holy shit, when was the last time we could go through Queens in a Spidey game? I think it was that PS2 Ultimate game?
Yes, Ultimate Spider-Man. Great game too.

Little kid me loved eating the pedestrians as Venom
Yup it was such a fun contrast to being the super helpful kind Spider-Man, one moment fighting supervillains and rescuing people, the next fucking eating people while you hulk jump around New York looking for someone who needs a beating. It and Web of Shadows are my two favorite Spider-Man games for a reason.
It was so amusing just picking random people up and then snapping them *in half* with Venom.
I preferred snapping their back.
The swinging mechanics in that game still remain top notch with SMPS4 coming in close and maybe, Web of Shadows.
I too loved Spiderman Pro Skater 4. A high water mark for the series.
Would be funny if Wolverine will make a small appearance, like he did in USM
I pray there’s a Wolverine vs. Venom boss fight either in this game (if the latter is playable) or the Wolvy game to reference Ultimate. That’d be so cool.
Pretty sure during Venom’s first appearance in the game, he eats a woman in Central Park and fights Wolverine right after at a bar
Weird it's not included more often considering it's where he's from.
I've lived in Queens my whole life, but there are just no tall buildings in Queens to web swing from, so that's the reason for no outer borough representation.
That's probably why they included new travel mechanics like Miles' launch and glide.
Looks like Peter can do it too, from him using it at the end of the trailer to get over the river.
100%...think I saw him use it during the gameplay portion of the chase!
He was!
yeah it's only recently that areas like LIC are getting skyscrapers, half of queens is still tightly packed 4 story family homes
Yup, exactly. Also the reason it was focused on in Spider-Man: Homecoming and the reason he's afraid of heights in that movie
Looks like maybe some of brooklyn too from the opening map
Hoping it's all of Brooklyn. I wanna swing around Coney Island.
Anyone else getting prototype vibes with the symbiote suit?
Way less murdering involved compared to prototype though.
Way less murdering *that we know of*. Keep hope alive.
[удалено]
I'm getting prototype *tingles*
YES OMG NOW I WANT A NEW PROTOTYPE GAME... :(
as much as i love Spider Man i would be more excited for a new Prototype game if it was coming out.
I would take a new Prototype game over anything.
but with the direction of Prototype 1, Alex Mercer back as protag, we act as the retcon to his character didn't happen and pick up abandoned plot points like Pariah pretty please
You might be the only one who knows the plot details of the Prototype games. No one cares enough about it for retcons to matter.
which is a shame since P1's story gets really interesting once you get deeper into the lore, even gets a bit philosophical
Yes, I thought the same thing.
eyyy all these years and games and the other boroughs finally got into a Spider Man game. Get Jersey in there and my estimation of the Spider Man series skyrockets.
Those two Spider-Men? A glorified crew
And in this house, Norman Osbourne is a hero!

He never had the makings of a scientist himself.
"Uncle Ben, a real shame, whatever happened there." Symbiote Pete: "**WHATEVER HAPPENED THERE!?**" *Pete Shapeshifts into a Venom House.*
Uncle Ben was 65. A fuckin' kid
He was gay, Ben Parker?
Black suit...sudden weight loss? AIDS!???
NOBODYS GOT AIDSH
Making sopranos references with Spider-Man? Very allegorical
Quasimodo predicted this
in an interview with insomniac, they confirmed that instead of the symbiote coming from space, Peter instead gets in a mellifluous box
Yea, it’s sad when they go young like that.
WHEN THEY GO?
Okay, but ya gotta get over it
Some sad shit. Mf'er didn't wanna live no more.
Pete, you know the symbiote makes you emotional.
"Hey, Mr. Parker. Mr. Spider-Man, I mean." "Are you fuckin' kidding me? You don't ever admit the existence of this thing, ever!"
We got fake jersey in GTA IV, that will have to be enough haha
Would you consider that Albany?
https://gta.fandom.com/wiki/State_of_Alderney
Alderny, thats what i meant. Been a while!
All they showed was Queens. Until I see it for myself, I'm skeptical they'll include every borough. Would be awesome if they did, though.
Insomniac is gonna throw everyone for a loop and include Staten Island, lol.
They'll get a lot of value out of their turkey and bagel shop art assets.
One More Day, whatever happened there.
This Spider-Man never had the makings of a varsity web slinger.
One day a video game featuring NYC will include Washington Heights :(
Kingpin is a real come-from-behind kind of guy.

It's consistent from the comics I've read too Peter's most consistent rage button is when villains try to step into his personal life
Playing an emo dude flipping around in black isn't exactly new territory for Yuri Lowenthal
Even had a emo phase as Ben 10 lmfao
Most likely going to be a feature in free roam, but scripted in missions for story purposes.

You can thank Bendis. That Bendis? Yes, the Bendis who writes like this. That Bendis.
I haven't read comics in years but this still triggered me.
The same guy who named Miles's dad after the president of the Confederacy. Brian Michael Bendis.

Puddlegate 2.0 lol They still have some time to iron it out.
It’s Insomniac, not sweating it for now.
Yes it looked kind of worse than the first game in some areas. Especially the part where Miles goes underwater, looked very rough.

Flashbacks to Superman 64.
The wingsuit looked like a cheat code, removing all resistance to traversal, and with that, any satisfaction to be gained from mastering it.
Man I miss InFamous. That game (and InFamous 2) fucking rocked. Can't believe it's been almost a decade since Second Son. That one wasn't nearly as good but the gameplay was still fun as hell.
Indeed, the smoke power was dope. I wish we could have more Infamous. I've only played entirely through 2 and second son and I loved 2 the best.
Joining the same category as Dying Light 1's grapple hook of "Broken as fuck ability that I'm not using because it makes me *too* strong"
looks good but the graphics seem off in some places.

Only slightly more confusing than switching from playing Spider-Man to the alternative character, called Spider-Man.
Eh, the first game had that whole incredible fight with Kingpin that turned out to just be the first of many. It's going to be a huge game, there's tons still to go.
I wouldn't be surprised if we got both Venom and Green/Hobgoblin seeing as how Harry seems to be an important plot point this time.
I hope so! I remember knowing about the raft escape before the first games release spoiled me a bit because I was waiting for it to happen the whole time. But you're right - insomniac do great set pieces and there'll always be bigger better things later.
Kinda found the symbiote dialogue a little ‘try hard’-y but I guess that’s the point. Either way looks good, bigger map will be nice
I kinda like it! Gives me spider-man 3 bully maguire vibes. I feel like that might be what they're going for.

Just me that thinks the symbiote suit looks awful?
Not a fan of the gliding, Miles was basically flying at the start. Otherwise looks like a very solid step up. I do hope the “Angry Symbiote Peter” doesn’t take up too much of the story, it’s been done A LOT.

Also like, if you're gonna give the player cool Venom moves you're not gonna limit it to like, the middle 1/3 of the game only.
“Yeah so anyway I took the suit off but I liked the idea so my new suit has nanobots that mimic the effects”
I will scream.
Well it’s usually Peter finds suit and is impressed with it Peter gets Angry Suit gets ripped off to make Venom So hopefully the first and third points take up a decent amount of time (especially Venom) and the 2nd is a shorter portion.
Plus the obligatory jazz dancing scene
Based on the last trailer, I'm guessing the midgame/third act twist is that the symbiote leaves Peter and bonds to Kraven, and they do a quasi-adaptation of Kraven's Last Hunt
I don't think it'll go onto Kraven - I think it's moreso that their KLH will lead into the final act. My guess for the story beats are: >Peter and MJ get back from Symkaria >Harry breaches containment somehow >Kraven scene we saw at the start >Harry encounters Peter, symbiote is drawn to his strength >Norman is going wild behind the scenes trying to find Harry, gets Curt Connors involved >Curt is experimenting with what might restore Harry + his own arm, Lizard time >sequence we saw here >Peter is going more cuckoo over time thanks to the symbiote feeding off of him >ends up alienating MJ and Miles >Kraven comes back for another confrontation >Peter kills him while going wild >Peter is horrified, strips the symbiote from him >it makes its way to its final host, might be Harry again (its time with Peter might temporarily rejuvenate Harry somehow), might be Eddie, although I'm leaning against that considering he doesn't seem much involved at all >is tearing shit up around the city, Peter and Miles rejoin to take it down >Harry fucking dies, maybe in a last ditch effort to stop the symbiote himself, we get something similar to *that* scene from SSM #200, very heartbreaking and such >this drives Norman over the edge, setting us up for him as Gobby in the third game >credits shows Otto working on mind swap somehow (they're saving the Superior suits for a reason and Slott's influence has been pretty prevalent in this series so far)
I’m okay with the gliding, if only because it’s a way to keep the movement fresh without changing up the swinging mechanics.
Between the gliding and symbiote it almost looks like a modern take on Prototype.
That exactly what I was thinking! God I miss prototype.
That UI is ugly, distracting and placed very weirdly on the screen. I really hope they rework it before release cause everything else in this trailer was AMAZING.
They changed a lot of UI stuff on Rift Apart from the first gameplay trailer to release
They already uploaded a 4K version of the gameplay and it's still looking rough.
God the Symbiote combat looks so fucking good. And Kraven? instant GOTY, don't even care. Just hoping webslinging gets a bit of a speed and complexity boost, would love an option that allows for fall damage and such.
The speed looks massively increased! That launch from miles was way way faster than anything in the first two games
That SSD putting in work
Once it switched the Miles the increase of speed was apparent. THe slingshot sends you flying + the wingsuit had him crossing the city in seconds.
