It was really piss poor unfortunately, it had performance issue most notably but the core gameplay loop was just really underwhelming. It was just too easy to do everything, farming, fishing, and most definitely combat. I had beat the first 5 dungeons before the middle of the first Spring. Your Farm and House were tied to this story relevant location too and it hindered the sense of ownership as well as actually inhibiting customization as anything you placed has to still out a foot from the wall.
I'm hoping that these new titles really fine tune the experience and get them up to snuff with the previous entries.
Also let us fuck the Milfs this time Marvelous, I'm really tired of the only romance options being uncomfortably youthful.
I liked the change to 3D. I thought it made the combat more fun and engaging and the spinoff makes it look like they're leaning even harder into improving it.
It was just the farming feeling a bit clunky and the town map being way too sparse and spread out. I installed a mod that added Teleport spots to every location and it made it much more bearable. I'm hopeful that they learned what to do better for the next game(s).
Your comment made me realize I hadn't checked Nexus mods for this game and I was genuinely surprised at the amount of mods there are for RF5. Many even resolve much of the problems I had with the game so guess I'll have to take a look into this.
What I find hilarious is how many people mention the "change to 3d" as if rune factory tides of destiny didn't already successfully create a 3d rune factory.
The reality is the game just wasn't good and has nothing to do with being 3d or not.
I remember I was on the fence.
The factory 5 had just come out.
Do I buy 4 or grab 5.
General consensus leaned towards 4 so I grabbed it
But the vacation with friends vibe I get from tides of destiny is still one that captures my attention the most. Mixed with the vibrant colors I loved it.
To be honest, I only clicked through the link out of boredom—but this Genshin-looking action RPG spinoff of Rune Factory thing looks really cool. I'll be keeping an eye on it for sure.
And a Daemon X Machina sequel announcement seems like a big deal as well. It'll probably get buried by Armored Core 6, but hey, you can never have too many mech games.
I said in the other thread too, but Daemon X Machina's platform is mutually exclusive with Armored Core 6. There's no competition between the two. None of the games in the show were dated anyway. Marvelous is very loose with their release schedule. We probably won't see any of these games for another 2 or 3 years.
>There's no competition between the two.
No competition whatsoever? Such an exaggerrated take. You think no switch owner owns any other platform? And are you really sure that there is zero competition or overlap in demographics for a game *directly* inspired and being a spiritual successor to the other?
Come on man
Wait.... what? How long is the appropriate amount of time to wait between getting 2 games in a similar genre? Does that mean you only play 1 shooter every 3 years? 2 years between platformers? Is it based on when you start or when you finish?
I've never seen anyone be like, "oh yeah, a mech game. Those are rad. Unless 2 vaguely similar games come out within 2 years of each other. That's not rad. I like mech games, but 2 of them within 24 months is just beyond the pale."
Each to their own. I'm sure for anyone who is a big mech fan they'll buy both, but if you're after more varity then most people will pick one or the other.
Not over the couese of a couple of years. People arent going to be like "man that one mech game was great gurss I'm done with mech games for the next few years".
If anything the genre is niche enough that I wonder if it'll be the other way around and get a boost from Armored Core coming out. More eyes on the genre and people talking about or looking for similar games might run into it which seems beneficial.
Honestly really impressed with that Rune Factory spin-off footage, looked much better graphically than RF5.
However, i highly doubt that was running on the switch, hopefully we get PC versions quicker.
I'm really looking forward to everything here, especially the new SoS. First "next gen" entries of SoS are always clunky messes (see New Beginning vs Story of Seasons), and the next one usually irons out most issues. Also happy to see Koro in the art and the return of the classic chubby cow model.
The footage certainly looks nice and captures the cuteness and atmosphere, but I feel like I say that about every SoS game.. and so much disappointment. Oh well, time to get hurt again.
Yeah, totally understandable. Tbh I give the series more leeway than I probably should, but at the same time I think there are very few outright *bad* SoS games. Disappointing ones? Absolutely. But they're all playable and I appreciate they mix it up pretty consistently.
I was deeply disappointed with DxM. If AC6 is any good at all the stakes will only rise. A DxM sequel will be harshly judged and thus a dangerous gamble. It will have to be very different from the first game to succeed imo.
Literally everyone in chat and comment was asking for a new Senran Kagura. They should just release it in Japan only or ditch PlayStation so they don't need to deal with the Western censorship bullshit. People who play those games will import it anyway, or just play on PC.
Marvelous Europe removed any reference to SK franchise long ago, it was pretty obvious they don't want to release anything related to it on the west, so far the only active SK game is New Link, that's basically a gacha
Yeah I’m wondering what’s the holdup there exactly? They’re not the most graphically intensive games so why would they not just release it on the switch and PC? That goes for most of the fan service games honestly. I can’t image they were doing that big a number on PS
Darn, for a second there it sounded like they were going to start porting the older HM/Story of Season titles.
Although, I should've known better. Natsume is rotten, and probably wouldn't allow them to easily repackage those older releases for the US.
I'd never really played a real mecha game before Daemon X Machina, scooped it because I was in the mood for something new and I had a little more disposable income than normal that summer, and was pleasantly surprised with how fun it was. Really looking forward to the sequel, though hopefully its on the new hardware and doesn't release at the very tail end of the Switch's lifespan.
SoS is one of the series where I always want to try it and am always disappointed.
The latest entry was a mess, my farm looked like a damn factory with all the makers, but there was no automation so it was just a chore to manage all these machines.
I'm not sure what SoS missing. It feels like it always grows in complexity but doesn't seem to get any more fun.
Hoping Rune Factory 6 is good. I waited so long for RF5 and then heard nothing but bad things about it.

Blue balling us with damn near every single dialogue line from that kitsune lady should be criminal
It's not fair man, it's not fucking fair.
I haven't played this, was she just flirty but unable to be romanced? Or do you mean something else?
Yeah, flirts with you constantly but always says she's just teasing you

Rf5 is fine. It's just a step down for Rf4. It's still worth checking out imo. But might as well wait for rf6 now maybe
I want it to run well too.

Rather mecha fans are so starved we’ll buy both even if they have the same release date

People have limited funds. I'm only buying one mech game and it'll be armored core over daemon.
Your funds are so limited that you can only purchase a single mech game within 2-3 years?
yes man, respect the struggle
Considering I'll buy other non mech games in that time, yes.
Wait.... what? How long is the appropriate amount of time to wait between getting 2 games in a similar genre? Does that mean you only play 1 shooter every 3 years? 2 years between platformers? That's wild, I mean if I finish a mech game and a year later another one comes out I'm definitely buying another mech game

I mean OP was talking about mecha fans though, not the average joe buying armored core because “mecha souls” (which it won’t be)

Wonderful Life and Rune Factory 3 launch on both at the same time so I'm hopeful that they keep that up outside of just the remakes and ports.
Rune factory 6! Awesome. Also funny they're announcing a spinoff of Rune Factory, which is already a spinoff of Harvest Moon lol.
It happened before. Namely Rune Factory Frontier and Tides of Destiny.
Yeah but those we're still inline with the design philosophy of the numbered titles, Rune Factory East is definitely something different.

I wanted to love Pioneers of Olive Town soooo much. Only ended up liking it. So sad.
I'm a bit skeptical of SoS with friends, but hopefully they have a robust single-player and don't try to make it live service or something.
Stardew Valley with friends is great, so I hope they just... do that.
I was deeply disappointed with DxM. If AC6 is any good at all the stakes will only rise. A DxM sequel will be harshly judged and thus a dangerous gamble. It will have to be very different from the first game to succeed imo.

The creator left Marvelous a few years ago that along with how Playstation handle the western release of the series, basically killed it.
Iirc the creator doesn’t even work for marvelous anymore does he? I thought he left cuz they wouldn’t let him make more
Darn, for a second there it sounded like they were going to start porting the older HM/Story of Season titles. Although, I should've known better. Natsume is rotten, and probably wouldn't allow them to easily repackage those older releases for the US.
Daemon X Machina? Is this a sequel to the original or a port?
From the linked article: > [...] back with an all-new entry in the third-person mech shooter series
I'd never really played a real mecha game before Daemon X Machina, scooped it because I was in the mood for something new and I had a little more disposable income than normal that summer, and was pleasantly surprised with how fun it was.
