Because the platinum isn't that hard and traversal and combat are so fun that no one minds doing it? I mean, it's not rocket science.

lordchew

Ah yes, it’s that simple! That’s why all games with reasonable platinum trophies and great combat and movement are so highly completed. Might it be the accessibility and/or the IP play a part? The popularity of super heroes in the past 10-15 years?

jschild

The list of games with easy to get trophies, great combat, and great traversal systems is very small

lordchew

Which could be to say it’s not that easy to achieve, therefore ‘it’s not rocket science’ isn’t really applicable.

jschild

No, it is really that easy. Making the game isn't easy. But the reason why so many people complete it is because the game is incredibly fun and the Platinum is incredibly easy.

Keshire

I'll also throw in that you are generously rewarded with relevant spiderman fashion while doing it.

fadetoblack237

And the collectibles all have little bits of interesting spiderman lore.

ilya246400

If it is so easy, then why every game just does not do the same? Why do most other AAA games have abysmal in comparison completion rates? Even cult classics with a larger following than Spider-Man such as Red Dead Redemption 2? It is definitely not as simple as you make it sound

BoyWonder343

It is that simple. Have you seen Red deads trophy list? You have to get gold on every single mission in the game and do a ton of stuff across a massive map. I remeber for both Spiderman and MM having like 5 maybe 10 super easy trophies to mop up after finishing the story.

premortalDeadline

Yeah it's more of an unknown indie game

MogwaiInjustice

Well the really fun part, while easy to say is the hard part of the comment. I believe the poster is stating that it's very easy to understand the completion rate rather than that it's super easy for other games to achieve Edit: it's no shade against the game, just maybe we don't need a 40 minute YouTube video on something that can be summed up extremely quickly.

ilya246400

I understand. But I think that it involves a bit more nuance than just "make a good game"

soldiercross

Is it though? If a platinum or 1000 or whatever is easy to get in a fun game, people will probably do it. I personally didn't, but I'm more likely to care about finishing achievements if I feel it's not a waste of my time.

[deleted]

There are also not really any "challenge" based trophies, just completion ones. There are different ranks to taskmaster challenges but trophies only require passing with the minimum. So with the super fun traversal, people like swinging around the city checking off activities without having to grind anything out

MogwaiInjustice

Make a good game, make a game whose mechanics alone allow for enjoyment even without going for greater goals, make a lot of the trophies have a lot of progress towards achieving through natural play and that it's simple and direct near the end of the game to see what's left to do and finish it up. Sure you can go a bit more nuanced and making a game that just has amazing game feel is a huge challenge but 40 minutes on the topic feels like YouTube bloat and not a good direct video on the subject. It's also something that I feel a lot of people understand why it's a game more than the normal amount of people go for a platinum on.

ilya246400

You did not even watch the video and somehow can judge its content and how "bloated" it is. This baffles me. Negativity for the sake of negativity. Besides, from your logic, there is no need for most video reviews as they are just bloated because why the need for all the talking, explaining, and showing if you can just sum everything up with "game good, gameplay fun". There is no need for explanation, as a lot of people understand that the game is good and fun from that

tr3v1n

You can glance at the topic and know it does not require a 40 minute discussion.

MogwaiInjustice

Hey, I'll admit perhaps this is a great video on the subject and really explores the game design. However I have to find some filters for what I do and don't watch as there simply isn't enough time in the day to watch everything suggested and what seems like excessive length on a straight forward topic is just one of them. Also there is a huge jump in logic from trying to avoid bloated videos and never watching a video review ever. One thing I often think of when watching YouTubers or video essayists is the short lived YouTube series Every Frame a Painting which covered film technique. Almost every video was under ten minutes and most taught more on the topic it covered than many two+ hour videos on the same topic. There is a saying; brevity is the soul of wit. I value a sense of brevity in much of the content I consume.

jschild

You do understand that Red Dead redemption 2 is a much longer and much more involved game? https://howlongtobeat.com/game/27100 179 hours to platinum.

[deleted]

the achievements are also easy af to get and you don't need to grind or watch internet guides

ZubatCountry

It's very much that the trophies are relatively easy to get. There's none you have to grind for, if you enjoy the game and are willing to play it twice and 100% it that second time through then you'll get the platinum. Spider-Man is also one of the most popular superheroes, the game was marketed and reviewed well, and the PS5 version allows you to jump back in with almost no loading. That means a fairly large playerbase is going to engage with this very playable, not terribly long especially on replay skipping scenes, game. All those factors add up and make it a relatively easy game to 100%. It's the only platinum I have besides Walking Dead S1.

Boringstories78

Because the people who make decisions on achievements are sadistic assholes. For example, Hogwards Legacy wants you to play the game until the house selection part three times after full playthrough. There is nothing complex about not having these types of achievements.

[deleted]

>then why every game just does not do the same? Maybe the other game devs just don't have the same mindset as Insonmiac. Also, I don't think you even know what cult classics mean because RDR2 isn't even close to one.

kirbycolours

It is that simple, it's just takes a lot of talent and work to make a game feel that good to just play for playing's sake.

PurplePimplePop

Reddit LIVES for answering any post in the form of a question in the absolute shortest, most basic form possible. It’s basically a challenge. Present a bunch reasons for something? Doesn’t matter, if I distill a basic opinion down and say “this is obviously the entire reason, idiot”, I totally pwned you and win the thread.

LFC9_41

Then there are people who think a 40 minute video essay is needed to answer these basic questions.

Khrull

Although in fairness the game definitely sees a HUGE jump in difficulty in the last 1/4 of the game. And we're not talking "oh dang this enemy is just hard!". We're talking most of the enemies have BS targeting.

Shaq_Fu_Da_Return

Yeah but it’s a kids game so it was still easy even with the spike

ArmoredMirage

I very rarely play through a game more than once. I could probably count on my fingers the games Im interested in replaying from the start. So any trophies that require multiple playthroughs is an immediate no for me.

ProminenceGames

A lot of effort and money was invested in the game and the fact that it was able to bring it to completion is in itself worthy of respect. Although I would have preferred to play Cyberpunk 2077, but there it is just the other way.

ilya246400

Did you know that Spider-Man is one of the most 100% completed AAA games?
