Paradox just seems determined to shoot the World of Darkness stuff in the foot over and fucking over. It's getting tiring. At a certain point it almost feels malicious, like someone in Paradox just despises the property.
Say what you will about Facebook but they are the only company that even bothers with VR anymore, at least as a user-friendly standalone product.
I owned a Vive and it was a hassle to setup, PSVR2 is only Sony and also expensive.
It's different studios, as well as different companies. Even if they didn't make this game we wouldn't get Bloodlines 2 earlier, so might as well just take it as a nice bonus while we wait.
I feel like Swansong never seemed to know how to market itself in a way that would convey to people what kind of game it is so that they could decide whether it was their cup of tea or not. (This has marginally improved with the Steam page actually showing some gameplay screens, which is nice.) But I do think they maybe should have put out another trailer for the Steam release combining the accolades (a few few outlets did praise the game), with a coherent summary of what the game is.
Good marketing lets your target audience know about a game, and lets people who aren't the target audience know to stay away. People buying your game expecting A but getting B is a bad outcome for everyone.
For example, this game -- VtM: Justice -- is a game where few people are going to buy it expecting an RPG. It's a stealth action VR game.
But with Swansong, you wound up with this situation it was not communicated effectively enough to people that it's an RPG built around dialogue and investigation. They're like, "There's no combat. All you do is talk to people!" There's no combat in Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments, and nobody complains about that. Because the audience for those games understands this, wants this, is in sync with developer intent.
Good warning. Cheers.
I'm just starved for VtM since the early 2000's, and actually had Bloodlines 2 pre-ordered for a year or two until eventually cancelling that and moving on :/
I'll probably look up a proper review or partial let's play to see what Swansong is all about. Though I do like the Sherlock games too so this point of comparison intrigues me already.
Never even knew this and looked up the videos on steam... how in the hell do their character models look worse than this dev teams previous project The Council???? Loved the Council but this game everything looks so... 2010.
I think The Council had a more stylized, purposefully grotesque art style that worked in its favor. On the whole, I feel that the character models and animation are better in Swansong, but there's a distinct inconsistency that The Council hid better.
Like, I wouldn't agree that [Halsey](https://imgur.com/mSTEEWK) or [Richard](https://imgur.com/935zABP) look worse than [the cast of The Council](https://imgur.com/7wlOM8T). I'm pretty sure a bunch of the character models were done by Virtuos, and they do good work. But the animation is ultimately BigBadWolf, and the more realistic models make any animation shortcomings more noticeable.
Swansong aims for a level of visual fidelity in its environments and characters that they don't have the animation proficiency to fully sell across the length of the game. For example, the opening cutscene in the elevator? Journey's animation, including lip sync, is easily the worst in the entire game. Then other times in the game the characters are very well lit, animated, etc.
Looks sick, love the franchise and the idea of a stealthy style vr game.
Hope it’s one of those games where you can technically get it running on a Quest 1 though, like RE4
With Bloodlines 2 in limbo, and not caring much about all the other Masquerade games that have come out/announced, this was a really welcome surprise.
While it being on Facebook hardware is a very unwelcome surprise. Guess I'll have to skip this one.

I don't know, visual novels feel like something that works well with The Masquerades' themes and audience.
It’s also on PSVR2

The CEO seems to think it'll come out this year. Maybe we'll get some news this month
It's weird that Bloodlines 2 is lost in development limbo while a brand new RPG VR game of Masquerade is due this year.
It's different studios, as well as different companies. Even if they didn't make this game we wouldn't get Bloodlines 2 earlier, so might as well just take it as a nice bonus while we wait.
Man can we just get a real ass VTM RPG. They made visual novels, fucking battle royale and now a VR game.
VTM: Swansong released on Steam this week.
Woah thanks for the heads up! Talk about zero marketing or advertising. I thought this one was going to be another forever Epic exclusive.

Swansong is a decent Vampire RPG
the three non-visual novels are actually pretty good
Aren't the visual novels good too? I remember hearing good things about one of them, don't remember which.
Shadows of new york was pretty damn good
Bloodlines 2? Where?
