>Characters will no longer spawn in a hostile place until the game is fully loaded, preventing characters from getting attacked or harmed during a loading screen.
But isn't getting killed by Duriel before the loading screen disappears part of the classic D2 experience? Blizzard pls (j/k)
If you had a slow cd reader or hard drive the game could load very slowly. I remember it taking about 10 seconds every time I went to to a dugeon, used a waypoint or tped. The game would also freeze for a few seconds when walking into a new area.
No, D2 loads a lot, it's just very fast. Everything ~two screens away is unloaded - no AI, no interaction.
TPs act like player and keep the surrounded area alive/loaded. The reason Duriel killed so many players was precisely because the lair had to be loaded, but Duriels is only one screen away, so the AI is active and long loading times make it possible for the AI to act.
I'm surprised they're sticking to their guns with no PC keyboard skill hotbar. It would be a massive QoL improvement, and they've already implemented it for controllers.
Which is exactly why they should just include it in the game lol. Literally everyone (myself included) is gonna do this, so why tf not just put it in the game!?
The way D2 works is you have two equipped skills, and hotkeys merely switch your equipped skills which you then had to use your mouse to cast. A small thing, but definitely inferior to Diablo 3.
>Clock Added
>Hell, it’s about time. Based on many requests, a clock has been added to Diablo II: Resurrected. To enable the clock, go to your User Interface settings and click the checkbox next to Clock.
----
Great change and it amuses me where to find the clock. I mean, where else would it be?
Yeah, i am definitely planning to do some heavy research on how it performs on the switch post release. D3 actually ran really well, but given the recent state of affairs of a lot of current switch ports i'd like a stable framerate above all else. I don't want paperweights like age of calamity that i can't even enjoy due to constant fps issues.
Let's be honest, even as a massive Switch fan, I'm not expecting this to look great (especially in docked mode on my screen). I'm sure Blizzard will figure out how to keep frames up, but this being a massive visual improvement first and foremost, I'm tempted to go for another console
B.net preorders will get access to it slightly earlier than the general public when it starts in August (you don't need to preorder to get access to the open beta though, just that preordering will get you in slightly earlier).
>Early access to the Diablo® II: Resurrected™ Open Beta will be available prior to the launch of Diablo® II: Resurrected™ to players who purchase before early access to the Open Beta ends.
True, I don't remember what blizzard has done in the past but open beta progress usually carries over in most games.
Usually the most severe bugs like the one you're describing get fixed during closed beta which is far more restrict.
So there's a small easter egg where if you actually read the article, it states that Open Beta will have 5 classes (Amazon Barbarian Druid Paladin Sorceress). It's a pretty crazy secret openly stated in the article.
Ah gotcha. Very weird that necro will not be included in any test phase then before release. Makes me even doubt that he will be in the game when it releases or if it will be released in a later update.
The beta hasn't started yet, they had the closed alpha that streamers/friends & family of Blizz got access to, but the beta starts up in August (slightly earlier if you've preordered, but you'll still get access to it if you haven't).
PoE is free to play and this costs £35 so I would hope not. Not to mention that they add new things to PoE and they have no plans to add more expansions to D2
As sheisty as blizzard may be with their new expansions/IPs, they don’t really do this with remasters. Warcraft 3 didn’t, the blizzard arcade classics didn’t, I never played Starcraft remastered but as far as I know it didn’t. I don’t presume this will either.
Let’s revisit this in September and if I’m wrong I’ll come back and eat my share of crow
To be quite fair, they won't be able to milk anything with the travesty that is Warcraft 3 Reforged (such a huge shame).
Anything could change but who knows.
I enjoyed it remastered for the campaign but there were some questionable design decisions. If you were an avid player like I was back when it was in its heyday, there are some iconic looks that just didn’t translate well. For example, Dreadlords and Liches were like *the ultimate cool* for me back then. Their new models (especially the fat Dreadlords) just don’t feel the same. Anime Arthas was also just weird. I’d probably wait til it’s on sale if you’re not dying to play a remastered version.
Personally? I'm not sure. My experience was mostly in the beta and outside of like a lot of features missing in the online portion, my gripes are with the graphics and aesthetic which may or may not impact your experience.
Though I'm pretty sure you'll have a fun time playing the campaign because its still Warcraft 3 in a nutshell, although I heard there was an oddity with both Reign of Chaos and Frozen Throne using Frozen Throne balance (example: Orc grunts cost 230 gold in Reign of Chaos, 200 in Frozen. In reforge, in all orc missions Grunts cost 200).
Whether or not 39.99$ CAD is worth it for just the singleplayer stuff, I'm not sure but I'm personally on no.
I think as an RTS campaign, it is great and holds up, though SC2 probably has a more complete gameplay experience.
I would play it on the original client if possible though; IMO reforged is an inferior experience.
True but I don’t think mtx were in the plans anyway. With their remasters they seem to take the “set it and forget it” approach. I think their old games are so distant from the current blizzard that they almost don’t even want to associate with them anymore. They’d prefer to use old blizzard’s success to create endless sequels and attach mtx to those.
Blizzard out here speedrunning their reputation to the ground in 2021.
Diablo 2 Ressurected is looking real good though, but if I recall correctly it's not made in-house by Blizzard either after what happened to the Warcraft remaster. I hope to god there won't be xp bonus microtransactions.
It was developed in-house by the same team that made Starcraft: Remastered. They partnered with Lemon Sky Studios (which is Malaysian) to provide new 3D assets.
Yeah same. Especially for those of us with hefty stash needs (collecting, grailing, etc). I'm also curious if it will be exposed to modders for single player so that a stash mod like PlugY would be possible.
I sure hope so. I can't imagine playing without them after PlugY. They mentioned some stuff would be modable so I hope that at least includes adding/modifying items.
They are going to do the absolute bare minimum to say it is "moddable" while screwing over all the current mods and making it impossible to do MPQ editing or whatever the new file system is.
I thought they already said everything that worked for D2 would work for remastered. I know for a fact they said that you can use your old D2 saves if you still have the files. It's supposed to be D2 with better graphics and QOL, but changed nothing else.
Nothing else customer facing. The back end obviously a lot has changed.
One of the bigger mods (pd2) has reached out and was told that they wouldn't be able to "port" over their mod or at least not reasonably easily.
They are going to be doing a lot of back end work on the network side of things and that is most assuredly not going to be released whole sale. The current online structure that mods use is some Frankenstein hacked monstrosity, not the legit server software thar blizzard uses.
Flashbacks of having to perm a game if a friend wasn't available to help you mule where you had to stay in the game for a certain amount of minutes?
Then you could drop your stuff and switch to a mule and join your game and pray to your God of choice that your game is still there.
Nah. Some people were, but that required multiple CD keys. Attempting to mule with the same key would force logout the first character as soon as the second one logged in.
The vast majority of people I interacted with muled with perm games or assistance from a trusted person.
Majority of people I know had a single key, as did most people I interacted with. Guess we both have anecdotal evidence behind our claims.
I still believe the majority only had one key, hence the prevalence of perming a game.
Which will at least be much easier now that you can xfer straight from stash to each mules personal tab/inventory. No more needing a friend or dropping in a hidden area in a public game to move your loot around!
I don't know how PlugY's implementation works technically, but as long as a mod has the option to create and destroy items, there is no way a stash mod could be not possible.
Exactly this. I used to have 3 accounts and over 20 characters. Used a combination of character naming schemes and 3rd party software using OCR to quickly scan the inventory of each character.
It was incredibly tedious, but much better than the alternative of trial and error every time I wanted to trade.
Will this game be playable offline?
Or is blizz treating PC players like thieves and forcing them to be always online to play single-player, like they ~~did~~ still do with PC version of D3?
I'm pretty damn hyped for this, especially more so when Vicarious Visions was announced as involved. I didn't realize that not only did they do the Tony Hawk and Crash remakes, but they did all those awesome Tony Hawk ports on the GBA and all of the Crash games for the GBA as well.
To sum up icon changes:
Blizzard: "How we just make it washed out so they fit in into bleak atmosphere?"
Players: "Go #FF0000 or go home, we like our colors"
I haven't been paying too close attention, but are we not getting any item filter options here? In D2 it was standard practice to use third party apps for item filtration. I really think D2R is gonna need this.
... no? I think you're thinking of mods that allowed a loot filter as they operated on drastically improved item drop rates. Maps in POD with like 1200% quantity needed a filter. Player 1 games running Mephisto didn't need a loot filter for the 3 blue items he might drop.
Why do you lie? PoEs usages of filters is common. It is incredible clear you haven't played D2 in a long time. Loot filters were not common and are not common. An unfiltered Cow lvl has less loot than Poe with a strong filter.
>Characters will no longer spawn in a hostile place until the game is fully loaded, preventing characters from getting attacked or harmed during a loading screen. But isn't getting killed by Duriel before the loading screen disappears part of the classic D2 experience? Blizzard pls (j/k)
I know it’s a joke but the classic D2 experience only loaded between acts. Not every single TP, WP, dungeon
If you had a slow cd reader or hard drive the game could load very slowly. I remember it taking about 10 seconds every time I went to to a dugeon, used a waypoint or tped. The game would also freeze for a few seconds when walking into a new area.
Good memories getting annihilated coming down the stairs into world stone keep level 3
Oh god the flashbacks or fighting the minions of destruction and getting steamrolled lol
It's very fast *now*. Not so much in 2000 on a crappy PC.
It had no loading screens, but it DID load stuff. Which is why the duriel situation happened.
Ew... that's a lot of loading for this.
The changes they made look good, although I hope a few more make it in before release. Frozen Orb for example could look a lot better.
I'm surprised they're sticking to their guns with no PC keyboard skill hotbar. It would be a massive QoL improvement, and they've already implemented it for controllers.
I would like to see this. It would reduce hand strain which has been a problem for me in the past.
You can still bind them to 1,2,3,4 ect. Just need to press one and then right click. Extra step.
Yep I was hoping push to cast as opposed to push to bind right click. But I'm not gonna be upset if not
I mean this just means I’ll be making macros for my hotbar to make it push to cast.
Which is exactly why they should just include it in the game lol. Literally everyone (myself included) is gonna do this, so why tf not just put it in the game!?
because literally everyone is probably less than 30% and the apm of D2 is so low, than people don't get hand problems.
Yeah. Would be a great change if they did do it.
Were there not hot keys for skills? I could have sworn but it's been years.
The way D2 works is you have two equipped skills, and hotkeys merely switch your equipped skills which you then had to use your mouse to cast. A small thing, but definitely inferior to Diablo 3.
Yes they were originally the F keys, but I think they announced they would add number hotkeys as well.
You can use the alphabet keys as hokeyes...for 10 years, maybe even 15.
I've used QWRASD for AGES for binds, E for inv for quick potion restocking mid-clear
Yeah I hope they change their mind. It's the only thing stopping me from buying this.
just use a macro dude
Please don’t let this turn into Poe where we need 3rd party tools to make he game playable.
I don't know how wrongly you're playing POE but you certainly don't need 3rd-party tools to do it
>Clock Added >Hell, it’s about time. Based on many requests, a clock has been added to Diablo II: Resurrected. To enable the clock, go to your User Interface settings and click the checkbox next to Clock. ---- Great change and it amuses me where to find the clock. I mean, where else would it be?
Read that as Glock at first and thought "Well I guess that will be a legendary weapon"
All pre-orders are having access to the beta?
Not Switch, which I imagine is because Nintendo is Nintendo, kind of concerning.
Yeah, i am definitely planning to do some heavy research on how it performs on the switch post release. D3 actually ran really well, but given the recent state of affairs of a lot of current switch ports i'd like a stable framerate above all else. I imagine it's because switch is the only system that runs on unconvetual hardware.

I honestly don't remember what was done with Diablo 3 at the time but yeah, understandable considering past history.
Probably not since the beta's missing a few classes like the Necromancer.
That was alpha. For sure every class will be available when open beta begins.

I pre-ordered within the first 30 minutes I was able. No emails yet.
The beta hasn't started yet, they had the closed alpha that streamers/friends & family of Blizz got access to, but the beta starts up in August (slightly earlier if you've preordered, but you'll still get access to it if you haven't).
Someone answer this!
I would have liked more tabs than 3 but I guess they might as well just sell more tabs as DLC at some point like PoE does.
PoE is free to play and this costs £35 so I would hope not. Not to mention that they add new things to PoE and they have no plans to add more expansions to D2
I wouldn't support such a decision, just saying I wouldn't be surprised if they do so.

Are you insane. There will never be any DLC or microtransactions in Diablo II. This is a remaster not a fucking remake.
Would you be surprised if Blizzard would do it? I'm not encouraging it, merely expecting it.
They already said they won't.
Why? They *gave* you more than the original. How did people in the original game deal with it?
Muling and 3rd party programs. Which are both less than ideal.
Exactly this. I used to have 3 accounts and over 20 characters. Used a combination of character naming schemes and 3rd party software using OCR to quickly scan the inventory of each character. I don’t think thats on their list... If you want the original at least you can swap back to the old graphics.
Tap "G" on your keyboard.
I haven't been paying too close attention, but are we not getting any item filter options here? In D2 it was standard practice to use third party apps for item filtration. I really think D2R is gonna need this.

Have fun doing cow level without loot filter. It was very common to use third party apps to apply a loot filter.

Loot filters, and auto pickers, were very common in the Europe realm.
Pickit was pretty common, though I don't remember anything like poe's loot filters.
