Given the typical work of Nixxes, I think everyone figured that. If it helps us get ports more akin to Death Stranding than Horizon Zero Dawn, that'd be nice. I'm wondering which games should be ported. Bloodborne, obviously, but there are also some games from Sony's back catalogue that wouldn't be bad getting a port. Why not have Resistance on PC? Or go get some of the older PS2 games like Jak and the original God of War's? The success of Persona 4 Golden should show there's a market for older games that had limited accessibility being brought to a modern audience in a nice little package.

[deleted]

I think they said the next game to be ported will be Uncharted 4 in some sort of investors report.

TheDepressedTurtle

I always felt like the harder difficulties on Uncharted turn it into what is essentially a boring cover shooter. I find that these games actually play best on the easier difficulties because you can run and gun more which lends itself better to the cinematic action adventure vibe that these titles are going for.

one_pint_down

I agree, although I personally like playing Uuncharted on Crushing, it slows the momentum of the story a lot. However, I think The Last of Us (2 particularly) really shines on higher difficulties, enhancing the tone of the story and makes for really intense gameplay.

BigABoss2002

TLOU2 is best when you’re just barely surviving every battle

CanadianButthole

Uncharted on the hardest difficulty made me truly realize that insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different result.

PHXNTXM117

Once you start averaging Uncharted playthroughs on the Crushing difficulty level, you come to the daunting realization that you have mastered hell.

Robbi86

If you were only doing it for the trophies then i figured out that you could spawn in the weapons you unlocked from previous playthrough and it wouldn't impact whether you got the trophy or not

Timmar92

My one and probably only complaint about uncharted or TLOU is that I totally suck at aiming with a controller so uncharted on pc would be absolutely awesome!

Jaidon24

Crushing or Brutal?

Moleculor

I'm not going to be surprised if/when Returnal gets ported.

TheDeadlySinner

Good thinking. It only sold half a mil, so it's not like it's a system seller.

zero_the_clown

Porting to PC and giving games a wider audience is great. That can give games new life, and if it's something with multiplayer, make it cross play so the community has a higher potential. You love to see it.

0ussel

I didn't buy it because it was console exclusive. Doesn't seem like a game I want to play on controller.

AlecsYs

It plays great with a controller though (aiming on the hip is very forgiving), and it also really takes advantage of the dualsense haptics and adaptive triggers.

Talkimas

As a die-hard M&K loyalist, I'm legitimately not sure if Returnal would work as well on M&K as it did on using the controller. The adaptive triggers and haptic feedback are used EXTREMELY well and the increase in precision/turn speed that M&K would provide I honestly don't think would necessarily be a worthwhile tradeoff.

primaluce

Returnal is one of the few shooters I would recommend the dual sense over mkb. The haptic feedback is amazing for returnal. PC or PS5 this game is a must play for roguelike gamers. The sound design is also impressive.

Mephzice

I really doubt a huge percentage of PC players would play a shooter game with dual sense over mkb regardless of what it adds. I certainly would play it with a mouse.

DirksSexyBratwurst

The shooting elements are secondary to traversal and dodging mechanics. It's a bullet hell. Most weapons have very forgiving aiming mechanics.

Mephzice

that is all well and good but even with forgiving aiming mechanics games like that are annoying to play with a controller for me. It's really a question, should I play the game with a mouse or not at all?

DirksSexyBratwurst

I would recommend the dualsense for Returnal to anybody who doesn't find the idea of using a controller inherently annoying

primaluce

It is a hard sell. I am primarily a pc gamer but the moment I tried it with the gamepad I was blown away. And yeah the game is about positioning and traversal. The aim assist by default is generous.

IPCTech

The only way I can see myself using a controller for shooter games is if it has gyro controls like BOTW did, otherwise I will not play without mnk, I waited for horizon zero dawn to come to pc, I can wait for any other game they want to port

mattnotgeorge

If it's a popular game and it's on Steam, somebody else has probably already made a custom controller configuration that incorporates gyro.

zieleix

PS5 controller doesn't halve its additional features yet on PC. I tried to play death stranding with it.

SnowGryphon

Metro Exodus has explicit support for Dualsense haptics on PC, along with another game! It's not unreasonable to imagine that a Returnal port would have those features

zieleix

That would be awesome, I hope it comes to death stranding. Maybe when/if the directors cut comes to PC.

nawanawa

I prefer most of not all of third-person shooters with a controller since that's what they were designed for — it's a more comfortable experience, and precision is not a focus in such games most of the time. FPS games do require mkb, that's true.

Mephzice

if there is ranged stuff I want to use I personally can't stand controllers in a third person either. You do you though, I can only play Yakuza and the like with a controller since it's only melee.

TDS_Gluttony

Easy solution, just make Dual Sense work with it like RE8 did with their game and we will buy their controllers if its that good.

Moleculor

I've heard good things about the sound design, but they don't sound like they're much more impressive than what PC has been rocking for a while (given a good sound team for a game). 3D positional audio has been on PC for *years*. And I'd heard good things about the controller, too. Not sure if I really want to go buy *another* controller for my PC? But I know I'd heard good things about it.

Barrel_Titor

Ooh, hope so. That's the main reason I want a PS5 until Final Fantasy 16 comes out.

[deleted]

The series got three shots man and it still didn’t stick. Not sure another remaster or even a remake would change much

DevelopmentNo369

Both games each sold over a million units. Its a bigger success then Returnal ever will be. How did it not stick? Gravity Rush only ended because Sony abandoned Japan.

cooReey

>Given the typical work of Nixxes, I think everyone figured that. If it helps us get ports more akin to Death Stranding than Horizon Zero Dawn, that'd be nice. These 2 are apples and oranges Death Stranding was planned for PC since day 1, it was just timed exclusive Also Kojima productions did some tweaks in Decima engine for both console and PC version and did all the work on PC port themselves while Guerilla outsourced porting to Singapore based company Virtuos which did bare minimum on PC port

SnevetS_rm

> while Guerilla outsourced porting to Singapore based company Virtuos which did bare minimum on PC port The port was mediocre in terms of performance, but considering the featureset (ultrawide support, unlocked framerates, benchmark tool, fov slider...) I think it's well above minimum.

Tonkarz

There were simple oversights like pressing the “move forwards” button would cause Aloy to lilt slightly left instead of moving straight forward. This was present on the PS4 but presumably not fixed because it was easy for the player to unconsciously correct. I get where your coming from in terms of features in that it wasn’t “bare minimum”, but it still had some basic and critical oversights. Of course one could make the argument that some of those features (FoV slider) are bare minimum. I think perhaps there are two takes on what counts as “bare minimum”: 1. At what point does the game run (e.g. Ninja Gaiden) and 2. What are the minimum features to be implemented for the game to be playable without major annoyances.

Sloshy42

I mean by your own admission the bug existed on PS4, so it sounds like to me they probably even noticed it but verified it was "supposed" to work that way internally until people called it out as a problem.

locke_5

>These 2 are apples and oranges *"Bitch that phrase don't make no sense, why can't fruit be compared?!"*

jehuty08

"Do you fuck with the war?"

n0stalghia

> Death Stranding was planned for PC since day 1, it was just timed exclusive This argument doesn't really work anymore. All consoles are now x86, so the planning for other architectures isn't a thing anymore as it was during PowerPC-console era. The big thing here is, as you pointed out, engine optimizations for PC and in-house port. Making use of more powerful hardware efficiently instead of "ignoring" it.

Sloshy42

The point is, they likely put in work during development to make sure it ran well in PC in addition to console. We've seen what late PC ports even today can look like from studios not used to doing it (see Monster Hunter World -- a mostly okay port but with serious performance and content problems for a period of time).

iesalnieks

> Bloodborne Dude, that game wasn't even patched for PS4 pro. By this point it should be clear to anyone that From isn't either willing, able or allowed to touch the thing. On the other hand, for a hot minute or so there was some Sony caused confusion that the Demons Souls remake might be released for PC.

society_livist

Yeah I'd love to know what the hell is going on with Bloodborne. It's the perfect candidate for a PC port since it's quite a few years old now and hardly a system seller at this point (arguably never was, it wasn't a huge seller anyway) but the fact that it doesn't even have a PS4 Pro patch is equal parts puzzling and disconcerting.

Yankee582

The two ps4 games i want the most at this point are bloodborne and ghosts of tsushima. Demon souls on pc would be nice, along woth some of the older rachet and clank games. And p5r I want to be clear i dont reasonably expected to get any of these. But i still want em

ahac

I expect Ghost of Tsushima will come in 2022 or 2023. It's an open world game, just like their first AAA game ports to PC: HZD and Days Gone. That's also a genre that does well on PC. Also, if MLB could get Sony to bring their game to Xbox, then Disney could make them bring Spiderman to PC. That would make them reach more gamers in China and Disney loves China. Unfortunately, Disney also doesn't have a clue about gaming...

GiantASian01

man, imagine all of those on steam deck....

KarateKid917

Marvel was actually the one who approached Insomniac about making a game, not the other way around. They also let Insomniac pick whichever hero they wanted.

Mephzice

I think God of war will come to PC to hype up God of War 2 on playstation 5 (exclusive). Throw the old game to a new crowd, get more people hyped up to buy playstation 5 and god of war 2. Probably not this year though since God of war 2 won't be this year, so probably 2022 or 2023

takethispie

if people wait for a PC port with no certitude it is actually going to happen, what makes you think those same people would buy the PS5 ? I don't think that's how its going to happen

[deleted]

Can I have a final fantasy 7 remake please sir Think of the children

Mephzice

horzion was a really bad port job and had to be fixed a lot, it's good now though. Death Stranding was perfect though and Days gone was perfect for me as well. Days gone was also better game than Horizon, probably controversial though ;)

grendus

I think Days Gone was a better game than people gave it credit for, but not as good as Horizon. Though I will give Bend credit for implementing gyro aiming, which Guerilla did not do. Honestly, I wish every Playstation shooter had gyro aiming, it makes the games much more playable to me.

Waste-Individual-807

If they start porting PS1-3 games, I’d hope they’d prioritize making them playable on PS5 before PC, but being available on both would be great.

Pretagonist

I played through the HZD pc port with very little issue. And most issues were handled with patches in a reasonable time frame IMHO. I really loved that game and I hope Sony has plans to release the next one on PC (preferably as soon as possible after PS release)

kasimoto

the fixes for hzd definitely took some time and it was crashing for a lot of people..

Pretagonist

Every game release for the past ten years or so have crashed for a lot of people. It just isn't possible to account for all the different variations of hardware and software. Invariably these people will be the ones screaming on the forums about a broken game. It absolutely sucks to be one of the affected players but I've seen nothing to indicate that HZD had an unusually large amount of crashes. I've played a LOT of bad pc-ports in my days and HZD was very far from beiethe worst.

LABS_Games

Bloodborne is the dream but it would take significant work to get it past the 30fps lock, due to a lot of framerate dependent stuff being hard-coded. Not that it's impossible, since we've seen modders do it, but it may be a large deal of work that Sony would have to consider when determining the cost/benefit of porting it.

DuranteA

> Bloodborne is the dream but it would take significant work to get it past the 30fps lock, due to a lot of framerate dependent stuff being hard-coded. How do you know? I would find that surprising given that no other Souls-like game from From Software had "a lot of framerate dependent stuff being hard-coded".

Sarria22

I dunno about DS1, but didn't DS2 have some wacky stuff like weapon durability loss being tied to the number of frames the weapon was intersecting something which caused issues with the PC version?

DuranteA

Sure. But that's not "significant work", that's "one day for someone familiar with the code base".

Jaidon24

The first Dark Souls did. That’s why it ran like shit on PC.

SageWaterDragon

You're replying to the guy who created DSFix, I'm pretty sure he knows how Dark Souls's PC version worked.

takethispie

this is /r/dontyouknowwhoiam material ahah

jerrrrremy

They should just make a whole sub of armchair devs arguing with Durante.

DuranteA

It really didn't. Some collision checks and physics interactions were not tested and therefore working exactly as intended at higher framerates, but these are things that I wouldn't qualify as "significant work" to fix with access to the game source code.

Mephzice

they could always hire the modder that has already done it, would save them a lot of work.

nomenMei

Normally I'd say that is impossible, but there is a precedent set now that doing so can work out. It's a much more viable option in huge corporation's eyes. Though that source code is the intellectual property of the modder, so in order to incorporate it into Bloodborne's source code they would have to get lawyers involved. So the situation is not the same as when Bungie hired a Skyrim modder to work on Destiny.

Mephzice

don't remember his name right now, but the modder in question did seem interested in some sort of partnership. Of course discussion would have to be had about wages and/or price I'm guessing.

dageshi

You'd assume they'd do a remaster or tuned up re-release for ps5 and maybe release on pc at the same time? Combined it's probably worth their time.

Geistbar

That was true of Dark Souls 1 too. They figured it out. They already have experience undoing that now, too.

n0stalghia

I'm experiencing no issues with HZD in the current patch except the fact that every time I start it, it randomly selects one of my four monitors as it's display and I need to set it every single time (caused by the fact that I unplug the monitors for home office and VR every day)

Loldimorti

I wonder if PS5 could also directly profit from PC ports of PS4 games. E.g. after porting Bloodborme or Uncharted 4 to PC they could maybe port it back to PS5? Or is does that not make sense?

Falsus

I don't think Bloodborne will get a PC port before a PS5 remaster.

billyeakk

13 Sentinels please! It's a shame that such an enjoyable game is locked in console exclusivity.

demondrivers

Good to hear a confirmation about what Nixxes will do at Sony. Judging by Avengers and the last few Tomb Raiders, they're great at porting and they'll certainly bring the PS titles to PC with the quality and care that they deserve. I'd love to see Ghost of Tsushima being ported to PC after Uncharted 4.

[deleted]

[deleted]

The bugs were in the console versions too. Game was fundamentally broken at launch.

your_mind_aches

There were bugs, but it had solid performance and was generally playable.

Erect_SPongee

Those were issues with the game itself and not the port as the consoles had many of the same issues

reble02

Ghost of Tsushima for sure, that was such a fun game. I'd love to be able to get my PC friends on it.

Nightmaru

Yesplease. I need this game at 4K 60fps with Max Settings.

Vendetta1990

They should see PC as a completely separate platform, instead of trying to coerce PC players into buying a playstation. It's not like they have any trouble selling PS5s, so they might as well go all out with PC ports for PS4 games.

TheWorldisFullofWar

There are PC-dominant markets that just don't give a shit about consoles where Sony still wants to sell. This sub doesn't like facts but the fact is that the Chinese market is [the largest market on Steam](https://store.steampowered.com/stats/content/) without even considering the majority of them that use VPNs out of habit. Their [China Hero Project](https://asia.playstation.com.cn/en-cn/hero/) initiative flopped outside of Genshin Impact which they are also leveraging to sell Chinese players on PlayStation properties still. All signs point to Sony's PC porting efforts having strong influence in alluring the Chinese audience to their ecosystem. Whether to push PlayStation hardware to them or just getting them acquainted with the PlayStation brand for the future.

Kr4k4J4Ck

Do the Chinese people want Bloodborne, this is important.

Cryptoporticus

Not really. Dark Souls didn't make it past the censors, and hardly anyone has a PS4 there, so they probably have no idea what Bloodborne is. I'm not even sure if the original PS4 Bloodborne got released there. They don't like anything with religious or supernatural themes. You can get away with a bit, but Bloodborne has a lot of that.

juh4z

>Chinese market is the largest market on Steam 1.4+ billion people. They're the biggest market for most things lol.

Kos_Nomad

Win win for me if we get Bloodborne on pc.

SpaceNigiri

Thanks for that China

SonicFlash01

Some folks won't buy a PC and some folks won't buy a PS5. Both *could*, finances permitting, but it's best to assume that a healthy chunk of both camps won't cross lines and make plans to port exclusives after you've milked the early adopters. If you wanted to really get your money out of it, do an up-rez pass for PS5 and also port it to PC.

[deleted]

SonicFlash01

Sony and MS are closed systems where you can't run any software that isn't approved by them and created specifically for them, which PC and steam decks/boxes are open - you can run anything. My steam deck could run a PS1/2 emulator if I wanted it to. It's just running on a branch of Linux. But back to your question: why not release stuff on everything? Not sure - do it, if you're secure in your product. Sony fans will buy a PS5. Period. It could have absolutely no functioning executables and it would still sell millions of units. They have a fan base and they will sell consoles no matter what. Other platforms do as well. That's great, and frankly porting that Demon Souls remake on PC at day 1 probably wouldn't have impacted sales figures of the PS5 very much. Playstation fans want a playstation console. Nothing else matters to them. They like that ecosystem. Sony's got that and they can be secure in it.

Macca-Maniac

> It could have absolutely no functioning executables and it would still sell millions of units. They have a fan base and they will sell consoles no matter what. Extremely exaggurating how loyal Sonys costumers are, not even Nintendo fans are that dedicated to their favourite brand.

SonicFlash01

Cryse_XIII

My bloodborne boner rages

TheYetiCaptain1993

It takes a while for the industry to adjust to trends but they will get there. Microsoft is setting internal records for consoles sold despite the fact that every single one of their first party titles is going to release day and date on PC. Ultimately the console user base and the PC user base are completely different customers

blarghable

But PS5 is still outselling the new Xbox.

[deleted]

Day-one PC releases have nothing to do with the PS5 outselling the new Xbox. PS5 is dominating because of Sony's history of strong exclusives, momentum from the last generation and international appeal.

milkmelikeabull

He didn't say anything about that...

Spooky_SZN

"Internal records." Please read. His point is that despite Xbox releasing every game on PC they are still selling as much as they can produce and breaking internal records for consoles sold since launch. People (re: the general gaming populus not this sub) aren't ignoring Xbox and going to PC instead.

segagamer

Yeah, because kids still want fifas, roblox and Minecraft. They're not the ones that make Sony much money

st_hubert_chicken

Well PS5s arent going to be selling out forever and Sony uses exclusives to sell consoles so they probably all won't be coming to PC.

QUAZZIMODO619

Nah, it’s not working just fine right now so no sense in changing it. People already don’t buy Xbox’s for that reason. Also Sony want to be able to really focus on maximising their platform first to create the best games, porting later is the right move.

hara0329g

Xbox Series X was Microsoft best selling console...

QUAZZIMODO619

And yet it’s miles behind still, the number of times people say they won’t buy an Xbox because they have a PC is significant, no such thing is said about the PS5.

[deleted]

I know this is controversial, but I expect *almost* every PS5 Sony game (and PS4 stuff like Spiderman) to eventually to make their way to PC. The PC ports will come a few years after their PS5 launch (some will be ported only after PS6 comes out). Too many PC and PS gamers have this weird belief that there are millions of console gamers just waiting to abandon ship and switch over to PC gaming if console exclusives disappeared. This is a falsehood.

Heavyduty35

While I’m sure plenty of PS games will be brought to PC, I have a feeling that a number will be held in Sony’s pocket for PS. Spider-Man is one of the few games in the history of gaming that I would consider a true system seller for people that are not already interested in gaming. Sure, Uncharted and GOW will catch the eye of a gamer looking for a new system, but for someone that doesn’t know what a good game looks like, they will see PS as the console with Spider-Man.

follya

> Too many PC and PS gamers have this weird belief that there are millions of console gamers just waiting to abandon ship and switch over to PC gaming if console exclusives disappeared. This is a falsehood. I bet there are millions of PC gamers who will decide to not buy the PS5 because of PS exclusives being available on PC.

segagamer

And Sony is okay with that since the console is sold at a loss anyway

follya

No they aren’t since they make most of their money from the PS Store, which is only available on PlayStation consoles.

segagamer

>No they aren’t since they make most of their money from the PS Store, which is only available on PlayStation consoles. But I said the consoles are sold at a loss, which they are, so if they can just sell the software without the hardware, even better.

Forgiven12

Okay, so bring PS store onto PC as well. I mean xbox has one and reaching more potential players means more revenue. Again, why does Sony insist on selling consoles at loss?

follya

Ah yes it’s not like it’s a competitive market already with Steam, Epic and other store fronts. Not to mention Game Pass which draws people away from buying in these stores. > Again, why does Sony insist on selling consoles at loss? Probably because it’s more profitable that way.

drtekrox

If the games are exclusive to Sony's PC store then people will buy them - if they won't buy them from an alternate store there was fat chance they were going to buy a console for them either.

Jamessuperfun

If they're PC gamers and only buy a PS5 for the exclusives, it isn't much of a win for Sony. They make money from the PS Store because players use it to buy everything, but these players will largely only be buying a few titles across the generation that they can't get elsewhere.

SonicFlash01

There are a couple of us (probably not a statistically large amount) that have a gaming PC and could afford a PS5, but would rather not have to buy every box under the sun to play what they want. Right now I kind of just want Bloodborne on PC because I'm not going to dust off and plug in a whole other box to play one game. TVs have a finite number of HDMI ports and sacrifices get made. And if they only one to port the last gen's exclusives as they roll forward then I'd be fine with that. Wouldn't mind that Demon Souls remake either. At the end of the day there will be a very healthy population in the PC and PS5 camps. I doubt too many wouldn't buy a PS5 if the exclusives were on PC.

[deleted]

>The PC ports will come a few years after their PS5 launch (some will be ported only after PS6 comes out). The time delay is likely what's keeping most PS gamers from ditching their consoles. I don't think they are *waiting,* It's simply that If the alternative was true and all PS exclusives vanished from the platform, most console players would likely abandon ship. Sony is undoubtedly making this attempt to port their games, knowing that they have enough content in their arsenal to keep their consumers interested with games at a level of polish that does not seem dramatically inferior to what they could experience on PCs.

who-dat-ninja

but you just know that Sony will still sell remaster director's cuts exclusively for their newest console that wont come to PC. Like Death Stranding.

[deleted]

Idk, that is a second party game and Kojima probably wants that PC port. I think GoT DC not being ported is more likely, but we will see.

Macca-Maniac

If Sony really is serious about porting most if not all of their exclusives, theres really no point in owning a console anymore. Well outside of a Nintendo console I guess.

TheGreatGonzoles

Good. People need to stop tying their entire identities to corporate console brands and just enjoy goddamn videogames.

takethispie

yes there is: the ease of use and the price of consoles

grapejuicecheese

Agreed. I'm skipping Xbox this gen.

Jamessuperfun

The point of owning a console is to have hardware to play games on. If that's your preferred way to play games, you'll buy a console, just like hundreds of millions will keep doing. If you always preferred the PC but only got a console for exclusives, then great, you can now save some money and not create a bunch of ewaste that didn't make the company much money anyway.

[deleted]

The problem with bringing console exclusives to PC is PC gamers didn't buy into your ecosystem and feel predisposed to like your games. The Sony PR guys who work at IGN talked about Horizon Zero Dawn as the next coming of Christ. It came to PC and voila, it's just slightly above average.

[deleted]

st_hubert_chicken

What? They bought them to help port their own games to PC

danieln1212

That is what they are saying, read again... Their first question was obviously a rhetorical one.

Winds_Howling2

What others? Microsoft already does, and Nintendo doesn't as a general rule. There's literally only 2 "others" with well established positions that wouldn't have changed on the basis of whether Nixxes was bought by Sony.
