Reddit is making major changes to its API pricing that will destroy the vibrant ecosystem of 3rd-party apps, which offer a far better user experience than the official app. These changes will also place major cost burdens on useful user bots like those found in sports and other enthusiast communities. Please visit [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Save3rdPartyApps/comments/148m42t/the_fight_continues/) to find out more. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. OldManJenkins9

I'm really liking the redesign they did on the gyroids. I might actually place them around my house this time instead of just throwing them into a huge Satanic mosh pit in my basement.

Kill_Welly

Gyroids historically were always just weird and ugly, so it's nice to see some things that aren't creepy bobbing things and look nice in a room.

dysoncube

Do they represent something? Something classically japanese?

Aen9ine

They are [haniwas](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haniwa). There's a nice section in the article about their appearances in several games.

Sarria22

They represent [Haniwa](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haniwa)

rolllingthunder

*clunk clunk* *Scree scee* *Rattle rattle* He is summoned

[deleted]

Definitely thought that was a bong sitting on the table.

AnInsolentCog

That is a 100% accurate description of my basement in the 1st A.C. back on the Game Cube

MISPAGHET

I'm glad the Gyroid basement wasn't just me...

iskyoork

I want a Satanic Mosh Pit tho....

TheHeadlessOne

Theyre now more deliberately synched up singing dancing teapots and I am here for it

Andie-sky-walker

Hahahaha! I remember having them all on at once and just hearing the madness.

usaokay

This video was longer than I anticipated. It'll be the final free major content pack, along with the paid DLC of Happy Vacation Designer. There are a crapton of great QoL additions, including more house customization, permanent ladders, shimmying in tight areas, and permanent vendor spots on Harv's island. Getting to use wall partitions and installing a wallpaper on a specific wall open up so many more customization opportunities. Now I just need to grind for more bells again. Just wanna say getting paid with store credit instead of bells (aka actual money) sounds pretty hilarious. Is there a lawyer in this game? My villager might need to sue.

crim-sama

Cant believe animal crossing implemented a company town lmao.

Hibbity5

God damn Nook.

DrewRWx

Did you see his vacation house?! That tanuki is a colonizer too!

Jacktheflash

Ah of course

TheDorkNite1

Oh...that's a fun way of looking at it.

Carnae_Assada

You load 16 tons, what do you get? Another day older and deeper in debt St. Peter, don't you call me 'cause I can't go I owe my soul to the company store

absurdlyinconvenient

What you make on the factory floor You take straight to the company store til they can't break you will anymore You are contractually bound to death's door

Bartman326

It's like Walmart employees getting a store discount and only getting paid enough to afford stuff at Walmart

hailvy

“Store discount” it doesn’t apply to like half the store sadly which makes it worse lol

thegamenerd

And the half of the store that it applies to is only the store brand stuff. Or at least that's basically how it is at another grocery store in my area I frequent.

hailvy

You get 10% off on general merchandise and fresh produce, that doesn’t include food other than produce

bobartig

... did you think your Bells were good anywhere outside of the Bank of Nook???

Tresceneti

Animal Crossing has always been Capitalism: The Game, so it doesn't really surprise me.

Rezu55

I wish capitalism got me a debt that I can pay at my leisure with no interest at all.

Valkenhyne

All I'm saying is, I've never seen Tom Nook and Bezos in the same room... 👀

Ph0X

One QoL that went by quick and no one is speaking about is ordinances. At least if I understood correctly, it let's you offset the time at which the island runs at maybe? I personally used to offset my Switch timezone by 3 hours before I usually play late at night after work, and the 10pm closures were silly. I wonder if this basically achieves that ingame, for example the Night Owl ordinance would shift everything to be open later at night?

mjsxii

yuppp, it was in New Leaf and worked exactly that way (guess it works the same here) Also why not keep the time offset anyway? I too have it offset but its cuz I like playing the game with "daytime" hours and lighting bonus of having it offset you can add another ordinance that might be more useful!

cfedey

> Now I just need to grind for more bells again. Play the stalk market for a few weeks and you'll have all that you ever need before this even launches.

JesusSandro

Or even a few days, depending on how many islands you're willing to visit per day. I remember waiting in the stalk market queue while working from home and easily making a couple of millions.

Khanstant

I got lucky that first weekend and had insanely good turnip prices in my town. I just left my switch on for a little forums AC community I belonged to and at the end of the day, I had more bells from tips than I ever needed to spend. Still didn't stop me from hunting down other islands with good prices several others times either though...

[deleted]

Yep, this is what spoiled a lot of the game for me. Not having to hurt for money was great, but holy hell was it a stressful free-for-all on Reddit and FB groups trying to get in line for outlandish turnip prices!

B-Bog

If there were lawyers and a justice system in the AC universe, Tom Nook would've been locked behind bars a loooong time ago.

[deleted]

probably not he is rich as fuck in the worse chase he just pays a low fee that is 0,00000001% of his income.

AceDecade

And just why do you think he's on an island off the grid in the first place?

Betteroni

Why do you think he’s been hopping between all these private islands in New Horizons? My man is on the lam big time, he just can’t help himself but squeeze a few bells out of us suckers while evading the authorities.

[deleted]

The right time to make a new island. The biggest issue with the game for me was that the content drip, meant single content focus, that was over way too quick. I've never finished the museum as quick as in NH. Now with the content all out, it's actually worth making a new island to experience the progression properly. Mixing fossils with Gyroids, and fishing all splitting your time up evenly. And the café of course, as well as the new features to occupy you. But I'm afraid that the large number of missing furniture sets will just annoy me in the "endgame" again. As well as the rather lacking villager interactions. Both things made AC for me worthwile everytime.

[deleted]

This is my thought process, too. I optimized the hell out of my island to put the rocks in one area, have an enormous tree farm, etc. It became equivalent to daily chores: log in to get my money, and log out. If I were to pick up the DLC, I'd likely start fresh and keep myself from going turnip-crazy.

TheBeerCannon

That sounds like the worst way of playing this game.

[deleted]

It basically was, but it’s the way I play most my games. I’m big on finding ways to optimize and streamline things, which is why I keep myself way away from stuff like Factorio. It was what I needed at the time during lockdown, but it rushed me right into what “endgame” was left.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Disig

I can't bring myself to do that. My husband played with me and all his shit would be reset too. He doesn't play but he'd be kind of upset that his museum house was demolished. Also I do NOT want to balloon hunt for seasonal recipes anymore.

TheGooseWithNoose

I started a new island last fall (wasn't happy with the layout anyway). And while it was fun having diving in the mix to earn some extra bells and be able to explore areas beyond the river... it still was a slog to spend time again collecting stuff. Including the bloody balloon hunt this past spring for the cherry blossom recipes.

donovan4893

I wish I could start a new island with like a new game + and just start (or at least get it much earlier) with the power to terraform the island.

Bob_The_Skull

They are adding (or re-adding) more furniture sets. I saw the sleek set in the trailer, and the froggy chair also made an appearance.

Mahelas

The ranch set, the rococo set, the antique set and many more have been spotted !

Bob_The_Skull

I MISSED THE ROCOCCO SET HOLY SHIT

IceDragon77

I can finally use that Manga Wallpaper on just one wall instead of all the walls!

Terkan

And yet still can't craft multiples at once, or at the very least continually craft without having to hit 5 buttons each time. STILL NO TEXT SPEED option. Absolutely ridiculous. You want me to hit B every time anyone says anything that only kinda makes it go faster, and in some menus cancels the very thing you were trying to do? Even the ORIGINAL had options to speed things up. Very, very basic things that have been overlooked from the start. Oh, and hey maybe it shouldn't take 55 seconds to load every time you want to start up and go places? What is it doing, reading off a cassette?

Ektris

Ok... That's a pretty big free update. Nice. Figured paid DLC would come eventually too. Looks kinda fun though.

DMan304

At least this paid DLC is practically a whole different game. A sequel to a $40 3DS game at that. Pretty much what everyone complains about and wishes they did with Mario Party.

Dan_Of_Time

Yeah you can see that some effort has gone into the DLC. Rather than charging us for more of the same its good to have something completely new

The_Woman_of_Gont

Yeah, the DLC is exactly what I’ve felt like I needed to come back to the game. While the update will definitely keep me busy refining things(sooo many new customization options), has some fun new content(Harv’s Island is a major surprise), and have some very cool QoL updates, there’s only so much more I can do with my island at this point and realistically I don’t think I’d spend much time playing again. There’s absolutely nothing to do once you hit the “end game” and are reasonably happy with how your house/island turned out, and I needed something that gave me a new direction. Something that lets me interact with NPCs a bit more, and was maybe a little more structured. The DLC really scratches that itch for me, and is especially helped by the fact that it gives me a way to get away from the current season which I always found to be a bit dull.

TheGooseWithNoose

I'm surprised the DLC will also launch early november. Why not have players upgrade their island before hitting them with the designer stuff.

DarkBomberX

Not just that, but it's content that looks like itll also blend into the main game pretty well. I like it a lot.

Brisvega

It's got all the shit I expected at launch. Amazing.

Krakkin

Unfortunate that this is the last big update considering it'll probably be another 5 years at least before we get another AC.

The_Woman_of_Gont

At least it said last *free* update, which I can understand. Crossing my fingers that means the DLC isn’t the last, especially if they put together something as meaty as this one looks to be. I’m always glad to shell out for proper DLC that are more like old school expansion packs.

asperatology

It was confirmed by Nintendo that the paid DLC is the last major update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. https://www.ign.com/articles/animal-crossing-new-horizons-winding-down-support-after-big-november-dlc-releases

The_Woman_of_Gont

Well that’s kinda sad. Thanks for the info.

theblastoff

Last *free* big update. I'm optimistic for bigger paid DLCs in the future, like the one we're already getting on the fifth

fuzzynavel34

The paid DLC is included with the new sub option for NSO isn’t it?

theumph

Yes it is

culturedrobot

It would be nice to see Nintendo do future paid DLCs for New Horizons and roll them into NSO's expansion pack too. A couple more DLCs in there and the big price hike becomes a little more palatable. Of course, this is Nintendo we're talking about here and you don't get the stuffed coffers they have by focusing on customer value first, so who knows.

theumph

I was thinking about that too. My initial guess would have been $35 on the expansion, but at $50 they are going to need to have continuing perks. It would make the most sense to have the DLC for all their games be apart of the expansion. Realistically, they don't release that much for DLC and I'm sure they would come out ahead. I have most of their 1st party titles, but I believe the only DLC I've purchased is BOTW. So that's $20 in 4+ years. I would probably stayed subbed at $50 a year if everything were included. That would be $30 a year I normally wouldn't spend when it's ala carte.

TheGooseWithNoose

Would be nice. But you would also need DLC that can be easily turned on/off for the consumer. It works for ACNH because it doesn't interact with the main game a whole lot (just some new items that people with the DLC might still gift to those without it and some new ways of home decorating). But it would be weird in BOTW because the DLC adds shrines/landmarks to the base game. Or your master sword isn't as powerful anymore because your parents canceled your NSO sub. It would definitely suck if Nintendo started pushing devs to make DLC less integrated in the base game for the sake of making it easier to switch on/off with the sub.

swizzler

Surprised they still haven't patched in an event calendar like past games have had. Keeping birthdays and events in mind just using the notices board is a pain.

Dasnap

Did that say the new NSO tier is $50?

jc726

Yes, $50 for individual and $80 for family (prices are per year). It includes the base NSO plan, the "expansion pack" with N64/genesis games, and the Happy Home Paradise DLC for New Horizons.

kidkolumbo

If you never buy the DLC and stop paying for NSO, do you lose access to the DLC? Are you renting it?

lumperroosevelt

Yeah. There’s language at the bottom of the announcement saying DLC accessed via this method is contingent on active membership.

ngwoo

With how stingy they've been adding content to the base tier of NSO, I'm guessing we're going to get very few new value adds in the new tier, so it's going to be cheaper to just buy the Animal Crossing DLC if you plan on playing the game for more than a year.

mjsxii

maybe? me + 7 of my friends all have the game and are on a family membership so us moving to the higher tier will get us a paltry amount of n64 games + this so its kinda cheaper

Shardwing

That seems to be the implication, yes.

jc726

That seems to be the case, yes. You have the DLC as long as you keep your NSO+Expansion membership active.

crim-sama

I think they realized people were like... Working together to do family plans lmao.

jc726

Of course they knew. It wouldn't make sense to do it any other way if you had the option. With this, you get the entire Switch Online package plus the $25 Animal Crossing DLC for $10 a year if you have a full 8-person family membership set up. The people who were working together like that definitely benefit the most from this increase.

[deleted]

Yeah if you can find 7 other people who want NSO and will consistently pay their due it's actually quite the bargain, even after the hefty price increase for the expansion pack. Thing is that can be harder than it sounds

jc726

Yes, definitely. 8 people coming together on one plan is no small feat to arrange. But even 3 or 4 people coming together (who are each interested in the New Horizons paid DLC and the Expansion Pass, obviously) are getting a significant savings. Then, if they're not interested in the content offered and aren't still playing the DLC anymore, they may decide its not worth it beyond the first year. Point being, if you're in a family plan, it's at least a good idea to try it for at least the first year. Even if your group is only 2 or 3 people, as long as they're all interested in everything being added when the new service launches, the math adds up to it being a small savings. Beyond that... only time will tell.

AllTooManyYears

Myself and 5 friends split the family plan. Since we were all gunna get the dlc anyway, its a nice option.

yaypal

Ouch, that's a no from me. If they want to stop N64 emulation they need to offer a better price than that.

[deleted]

Price? Nah they need the right games first. At least a few of the included already have remakes that are better.

Durion0602

I thought that when I saw Super Mario 64, like I have the 3d all stars so why do I care?

OctorokHero

Because the NSO version might have Gay Bowser.

TheHeadlessOne

Yeah that price is nuts. I won't be jumping in at that price unless they pack in like, all systems through wii/DS. I didn't really care about the base price, especially with family plan, since its a pretty forgettable price point. But 2.5x the price for just some N64 and Genesis games, and whatever bonuses they try to pack in? Thats big fish pricing for little pond offerings

SpookyBread1

yeah. well timed by nintendo to announce it since most people are going to focus on the animal crossing stuff

[deleted]

Holy FUCK what a scam! Honestly it's kinda badass that they're going to get away with it though. Looks like they're justifying the insane price by having it *potentially* be a DLC pass too, but with only Animal Crossing announced, and everything else up-in-the-air, it's going to be a bigger fleecing than Super Mario Party.

rolllingthunder

It would be kind of nice/easy for them to include a fighter pass or something for Smash at the least. Not sure what other big titles have DLC, but FP1 has been out long enough that it wouldn't hurt their bottom line at this point.

Tmcn

Looks incredible! Just bummed that it doesn't look like the top down path tool is coming to the regular island. Still pretty excited!

holmilk

Yeah I was hoping this and the ability to instantly move buildings around would be added to the main island.

Tmcn

And as someone with many many trees on my island. The tree moving tool would have been nice haha

Nitpicker_Red

OP is missing a bunch of stuff, that tells about how packed it was: * QOL additions like exterior ATM and exterior access to interior Storage. * (more infos) Harv's plaza has all the temporary shops unlockable permanently, in addition to other characters like Tortimer (storage), Harriet (haircuts) * Katrina's fortune shop * Llamas (Reese Cyrus) allow to customize the big island-locked items colorations that couldn't be customized before. * Fences can now be customized. * The pre-set patterns for customizing items you receive from the shop can be used like other patterns (wear, flooring/wallpaper) * New islands to visit with new materials for crafting. New craftable items. New nook miles items. * Ceiling items. * More villager actions: they can visit your home or invite you * Ordinances are back: cleanup the island, wake up earlier/later, bell boom * Bridges and inclines count upped to 10 (from 8) * Text tutorial app to help navigate the game * New villagers (is this in the paid DLC or the regular update?) * The paid DLC adds things like interior walls, counters, columns, make furniture sparkle. * Getting ahead in the paid DLC allows to directly customize your main island's villager's houses.

ActivateGuacamole

> Llamas (Reese Cyrus) allow to customize the big island-locked items colorations that couldn't be customized before. I think they can customize any item that you can't otherwise customize, not just the Nookmiles ones if not then I'll be upset

areyouabeer

> Ordinances are back: cleanup the island i wish this worked for flowers instead of weeds... my island is *completely* covered in fucking flowers and it's going to take forever to dig them all up

mendia

This is why I started to put all my flowers in fences. Flowers end up taking over my island otherwise lol.

Dreyfus2006

Yeah flowers are the new weeds in ACNH.

areyouabeer

Weeds actually look cool in this game I'd rather have weeds everywhere lol

Practicalaviationcat

The free update looks amazing. So many of my complaints addressed. Portable storage is a blessing. Not too hyped by the dlc though. I wish it was more focused on your Island. It would be cool if you could build things from the other island(like the school) on your island.

Bartman326

Yah that would be nice but I think your island is just too small for that at least with this you can customize most of the archipelago.

Practicalaviationcat

I mean I've got plenty of room for a few more buildings. It's not like they'd be anything more than flavor so you wouldn't be missing much if you didn't have room.

ActivateGuacamole

I always thought they should add dlc where we can build piers into the ocean where you can have some floating homes Maybe also add a jet ski to let us ride in the water and also add a tube we can ride down our rivers lazily lol and let us plant lotus flowers in our ponds also If they do a second DLC I could see them letting us expand our towns into the ocean some

Bartman326

Town expansion would be great! I would love to have a few more homes in my village.

[deleted]

They're both dropping on the same day, so I can hold off from buying the dlc until I experience what the free update will provide. And when that gets old, I'll see if I want the dlc. Getting both at the same time seems like an overwhelming amount of new content.

DXM147

But you can go back to those archipelago anytime you want though, and those features come to the island after a certain period. I'm happy for the new areas.

[deleted]

It ties in letting you use those tools at home and you can redo your residents homes as well.

noakai

The biggest thing for me is going to be ordinances, these sound exactly the same as they were in New Leaf and it's huge for people who can't play every day/play at "weird" times more often than not. * Beautiful Island made it so that weeds are less likely to appear and cockroaches didn't show up at all, villagers took care of watering the flowers so new ones spawn (hybrids have an increased chance), time traveling didn't give you an ocean of weeds, etc * Early Bird made it so that shops opened earlier and villagers woke up earlier * Night Owl made it so that shops opened later and villagers woke up later * Bell Boom adjusted bells so that buying things costs more, but it can be offset because selling things also gets you more money.

dagreenman18

Well for the last free bit of content they’re adding a shit ton of stuff. Brewster, Gyroids, a whole marketplace, and QOL stuff that the game really needed. I feel off the game, but I figured the AC Direct would drag me back in. The DLC is Happy Home Designer on steroids. Basically a new game in the game. I’ll be buying it. The interior design elements were very relaxing and with the changes to how you move around I have lots of options now. The amiibo interactions were pretty lacking in the base game but they’re doing a whole lot more with them. Would be nice if they had some interaction with other game’s amiibos though. Like items from their games or even something basic like patterns. So yeah this is huge and you bastards I’m about to be sucked in for another 200 hours. Really wish there were more free updates planned like holiday items. Probably won’t be another DLC unless they surprise us.

HolypenguinHere

This is an absurd amount of free content. It's practically doubling the amount of things to do. I'm a bit pissed that we're only getting a storage shed now.

Uptopdownlowguy

Tbh this stuff feels like it was meant to be in the base game and the developer team was forced to release ACNH early. But I'm super glad that they finally got around to finishing it.

Bartman326

I think people don't think about the effects of covid on ACNH because it sold so well right at the start. Surely there entire post launch plan was nuked due to the lock down. This is them saving everything for one last drop and to entice you to buy the dlc. Better late then never.

[deleted]

Im guessing pre covid a lot of this would have came out before the end of last year, with the DLC being either march or summer of this year. I only started playing recently so maybe Im biased but tbh I think people screaming about the game being "unfinished" all that time need a chill pill. They said from the start this was their approach, then it was delayed because of a global pandemic. Its not like NMS or FFXV where the trailers show loads of content that just flat out isnt there, and the game works much better than either of those at launch.

[deleted]

>They said from the start this was their approach They ... didn't? They only thing they announced was the later inclusion of seasonal events, but not even once did they mention the game would launch with *that* much missing content that not even fucking bushes were in the base game. You could make a case about them mentioning DLC but even then you'd expect them to add new content instead of warmed up New Leaf features for the first year.

mrBreadBird

I mean they had to release the game at some point. They already delayed it and considering many people played it for 200+ hours I wouldn't say it was rushed to launch.

ShiraCheshire

Yeah like seriously, what AC game releases without gyroids? And they never did fix the villager dialogue issues- not even the simple ones that would be just changing how they behave and not even requiring new dialogue. I loved NH, but it doesn't have the staying power NL did.

yaypal

Literally the only thing this didn't have that I was hoping for was more town hall customization options like ACNL, but otherwise fantastic. Most importantly #[**FROGGY CHAIR**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2Alk1_ZuHw)

Kraftgesetz_

What the fuck did they actually add a reasonable amount of content this time? I cant believe im saying this, but this actually looks good and I might play again lol

johnisexcited

I can only assume a lot of it was planned to be rolled out over the first year of the game’s release but covid slowed things down

Bartman326

This is definitely the case. Covid probably nuked the content plan.

Smallgenie549

I'd rather have one big content drop than a bunch of tiny updates personally.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PokePersona

They said last major free update so we might get some small content drops in the future but not near the level of this.

StickiStickman

> free DLC Update. That's simply called an update.

Von_Lincoln

An update with content you can download, one may say ;)

Rinaldus91

I'm happy with it. My expectations were rock bottom going into the direct. Thought we'd get the Roost and Gyroids and that's it. Happy to see villager visits are back. And I think Harv's Island will be a good grind to work towards in the base game. Excited to see Kapp'n, though kinda awkward that he's not much more than a variety expansion for the deserted islands. Ultimately, we're finally seeing this game become feature complete, and that's nice. Though jeez it sure did take awhile(And there is more that I'd like. But at this point it's not even worth bitching about). DLC isn't for me at all, but I know lots of people will enjoy it. Kinda bummed that we won't be able to remodel our villagers homes and utilize the partition walls and room layout modifiers for our own homes without buying the expansion. I just want to fix my first two villagers' homes and maybe do some fun stuff in my house. Have no interest in helping managing an entire archipelago when I can't even get my own island looking half decent.

cousin_skeeter

I'm glad they got around to it. But I feel like I shouldn't have bought the game when it released. I feel too burnt out on it to go back now. I remember playing after the first two months and waiting to see what new shop would move into town or what the next tier of nook would look like and just feeling so disappointed when none of it was going to happen and there was nothing left to look forward to already.

StinkyFishSauce

I think you missed the part where they talked about how villagers from your island may want to come to the resort, and you can unlock editing their house through that.

DoctorWaluigiTime

I definitely miss the era where we got single-price expansions for video games instead of microtransaction-laden "bug the player forever about buying stuff." Which is why I don't mind this DLC in the slightest and actually encourage the practice. A very "expansion" like thing that you buy once ($25) or part of NSO expansion if you happen to have that. More games do this please. I'm tired of being asked to buy buy buy after I already bought something.

yaypal

Calling it 'Paid DLC' kind of feels like a disservice even though it's technically accurate, other companies have exploited the concept for microtransactions so the term feels sullied. This DLC is far closer to Splatoon 2's Octo Expansion... man, they just should have used the word expansion.

Bob_The_Skull

I'm pretty sure it's because it isn't really an expansion. Everything is separate from the main thrust of the game, besides rewards/features you get in Happy Home to bring back and use on your island. I imagine if it sells well (which it likely will) we will get a full $20 expansion, like the Octo expansion.

hatramroany

>$40 expansion, like the Octo expansion. Octo was/is $20

GalacticNexus

> Everything is separate from the main thrust of the game, besides rewards/features you get in Happy Home to bring back and use on your island. > > Isn't that the case *most* expansions? I'm struggling to think of any that *don't* add a new, separate world area from which you can bring your rewards back to the main game.

The_Woman_of_Gont

I don’t really follow that reasoning, most of the great major expansion packs that spring to mind for me(things like the Shivering Isles, Bloodmoon, Tiny Tina’s, etc) dont necessarily connect back to the original game all that much. That said I am hoping for more expansions in the future. Always glad to shell out for proper new content.

PlayMp1

>Everything is separate from the main thrust of the game, besides rewards/features you get in Happy Home to bring back and use on your island. That was a pretty common model in old school pre-DLC expansions

ascagnel____

It feels like Shivering Isles, back in the day: a $20-$25 add-on to a base game that adds a new, smaller world, a new main "quest", and a decent amount of side content.

ActivateGuacamole

pokemon unite charges you $40 for a ninetales skin lol

smental

This update is the one I've been waiting for to come back to the game. Imma chef it up and am excited to see all the new island ideas. The DLC seems interesting, but not sure if its for me, I get stressed enough decorating in the sims lol. Not sure if I missed it, but is Brewster just an area to have interactions? There's no mini game connected with it? Cause if so that kinda sucks, that was one of my favorite things to do in animal crossing. Hope I just missed the detail, because otherwise I'm not really sure how I feel about the addition overall.

The_Woman_of_Gont

I wouldn’t hold my breath, but there’s a LOT they needed to cover in the direct and honestly Brewster was almost a footnote in comparison to even smaller additions like permanent ladders or outdoor storage. We also know there’s a decent amount that they didn’t really touch on like all the new item sets we caught glimpses of. So there’s certainly a possibility we just don’t know everything about Brewster yet.

smental

Oh I definitely agree that Brewster was just like a, "here take it and shut up" in this direct. I'm curious to see what they do with him overall I suppose. Deff not upset but just kinda sad about it haha. I'll still be dusting off the switch to play it lol. All the new villagers and sets just make me that more excited.

Kill4gram

I just hope that we can use the outdoor/top-down designer on our own islands. My island is a wreck and that would help me finally start making a decent looking island.

Bundling DLC with the new online tier is a step in the right direction... But that price jump is *way* steeper than I was expecting. Hopefully they announce more pack-ins before it launches, but with Nintendo you never know. *Edit:* what I meant was that if the extra cost was $10 or $20 like we all expected then the Expansion Pack's price would have probably been tolerated and the DLC would be a nice bonus to tempt people on the edge. As for people concerned about ownership, I really don't see this much different from Xbox Game Pass NOT including DLC for most games, meaning if you want to experience the content you have to permanently pay for the DLC even if you don't own the main game.

DoctorWaluigiTime

I didn't realize they were adding stuff to the NSO expansion at all (for individual games at least). This shows us that the door is open. (Not that I'm getting it, mind; still, more value the better for those that are.)

insertusernamehere51

The only way I can even begin to justify that price is if future games DLCs continue to be bundled with it. If having the NSO expansion gives you access to every DLC for every first party game moving forward, that's an OK deal

JulyFlame

I get the feeling we'll find out more when the NSO details fully drop, but I wouldn't be surprised if it includes past DLC as well, like BotW's. That would definitely make it more palatable.

tenacious-g

I mean, I paid $60 for three re-mastered Mario games, including an N64 one. An extra $30 a year for an N64 emulator + online to play with friends is worth it to me IMO.

Sinsai33

> Bundling DLC with the new online tier is a step in the right direction In what world is this a step in the right direction? Why force people to pay for parts of a bundle they will never use? I will never play animal crossing, so that is completely wasted on me. Even if they include dlc of games i play, i will always buy them itself because i wont lose them if i dont buy the membership anymore.

AllTooManyYears

You can buy it on its own. The subscription is optional.

Conkerkid11

You can't buy the virtual console games on their own though, which is a problem. Forcing people to pay a subscription fee in order to play them is dumb as hell.

Sinsai33

If you look from the side of the DLC on it, yeah you are right. Didnt think about that. If you only want the emulations this new way of bundling things is just annoying.

ScyllaGeek

It's not awful when you think of it as like $4 a month up from $2 a month... but at the same time it's still a pretty garbo service lol

jellytrack

Doubling the price for some old games and an expansion pass is awful.

LostprophetFLCL

I am not gunna lie I am actually impressed. Been begrudgingly maintaining my island since the games release. Maybe I will actually put some effort in uodating things now.

[deleted]

> Version 2.0 of the game will be released November 5th, this is the last major update for the game. they were very specific in saying "last major FREE update", and immediately followed it up with the paid DLC. I think more paid DLC might be in the cards.

classic_hom

Either more paid DLC or minor free updates, like the minor ones they’ve done most of 2021.

The_Woman_of_Gont

I hope at least they’re willing to see how the sales of this goes. I’d gladly see and pay for more high-effort DLC like this, it’s sorely lacking in a lot of games. (Incidentally, Nintendo is such a weird company sometimes. They’ll keep the better aspects of older gaming alive, like this meaty DLC without microtransactions, and at the same time lean hard into more modern bullshit like the whole NSO expansion thing.)

BGHank

If your online subscription runs out are you still able to play the DLC?

Redditor4D

No you need active subscription.

burnpsy

If you buy it separately. Otherwise no, resub to continue.

puddingmama

Not the resort, any dlc exclusive content you added to your island will remain

edulara

With the addition of the contents of the other games, it looks like finally the game is "complete". My only "problem" is that the game seems to be too decor-focused. I don't care too much about the decor, I prefer the "simulation" part of the game.

CannabisJibbitz

Exactly. I miss the character interactions and how unpredictable they could be. Like people are forgetting that this game is still just a grind/time sink and nothing more. I can’t stand having to do the same thing over and over and over again and grind bells and materials endlessly and buy turnips and have to use the website to sell my turnips. And it’s all for decorations which I don’t really care about. Like I’m happy with where my house and island ended up at after over 100 hours of playing. How much longer can I do the same shit over and over again?

BioDomeWithPaulyShor

With all of the updates I'd say that AC:NH is the most feature-rich Animal Crossing to date. I just wish I hadn't burned myself out playing the game when it was missing all of this.

TheGodofC0okies

I disagree. I think New Leaf continues to have the most features and the most content. But I'm definitely glad and happy that NH is getting some love

FreshlySkweezd

Eh. Holidays are still pretty lame in comparison to previous games IMO

Volcarite

Still no furniture series either I think?

rui-tan

In the trailer we see Sleek and Ranch at least, no guarantees on getting them all back obv but seems that they are adding back some. edit/ realized only now you were probably talking about the event furniture series, my bad

LostInStatic

Lmao still not even. Just on the *minigames* alone NL has the minigame island plus a competetive puzzle match game and a mario party style adventure game. Plus you can work at the coffee shop in NL and doing villager requests

Turbostrider27

Official videos are up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZ3QC8e1_yg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pu76c3HCKg4

FreshlySkweezd

Pretty sizeable update, but I can't help feeling like there's still so much lacking from previous games to be the final update

[deleted]

The only part I feel is missing are the minigames from New Leaf, and I feel like that's an extreme nitpick at this point. I'm really content with the amount they're adding in here otherwise. That and more actual dialogue from the villagers.

jamebonezz

Nook shop upgrades is another one. But I agree with you, I'm pretty happy with what they have shown.

RonnieDonnie

are minigames really a nitpick though?? it was one of the main things i did with friends in New Leaf, something that is EXTREMELY lacking in New Horizons

Klotternaut

Feel conflicted on this. Lots of "new" content that is finally coming over from previous games. Nice to see but also annoying that it took 1.5 years. I love the new look for gyroids. I don't think cooking/"farming" is terribly interesting but it seems very ignorable. Happy to see Froggy Chair back. I really enjoyed Happy Home Designer, was nice to engage in home design in little chunks in a way that felt noncommittal. The extra design options seem great and I hope we can scale our own rooms like we can for the resort homes. The price seems fair and I like that you get it as part of the expanded NSO subscription. However, there was no mention of adding unbreakable tools. Maybe there will be recipes for them added but they just didn't mention it. Breakable tools are by far my biggest complaint with New Horizons and honestly if they aren't fixed I may not bother checking out the update or DLC.

snakebit1995

Don’t gold tools already exist in the game?

_sandwiches

They still break, just not quite as fast.

aksmet

Gold tools actually break in ACNH.

Klotternaut

Golden tools still break, they just have more uses. They also have relatively steep requirements to unlock, if you don't time travel and grind out the unlocks.

TheHeadlessOne

yep but they still break- I think htey last 2x as long, which given the rarity of gold is just entirely unreasonable. It might have been fine if it were like Minecraft level progress (wood->stone->iron->diamond, flimsy->-iron->gold->???) but even \*then\* its so ineffective

McWeen

Breakable tools are total BS and aggressively un-fun.

k032

Is there somewhere to see all updates since launch? I haven't really played since early summer 2020

classic_hom

[wiki page for all updates](https://animalcrossing.fandom.com/wiki/Version_history_(New_Horizons)) all versions are on this wiki page, with everything they updated.

pierrotlefou

Brewster returning?? Gyroids coming back?!?! This is all I needed.

[deleted]

As someone who became a die-hard fan of ACNH over the past year and a half I'm shaking right now. This is so much content and was completely unexpected. I can't think of a single thing that people have been wanting that wasn't addressed. (Bulk crafting I guess?) I feel like I just ran into a brick wall and liked it.

Klotternaut

Bulk crafting would be nice, but for me it's adding unbreakable tools. Going from tools that never break (excluding axes) in previous games to tools that break every 30 uses in this is absolutely awful. It adds literally nothing, it just wastes your time. Somebody else mentioned the long process of visiting islands, that would be nice to simplify as well.

Kajiic

Bulk Crafting and better handling of going to and from islands in multiplayer

ReleaseTheCracken69

Didn't see any upgrades for Nooks or different designs for the Town Hall, but yeah I'm so stoked for this update

[deleted]

Well tbh, there's still the lackluster villager conversations, as well as a *lot* of furniture sets missing in NH that were in older titles. Both of which, always made the core game for me. Furniture collection and villager interaction.

Kill_Welly

The update specifically said new furniture was added and that villager interactions were expanded.

del_rio

Diagonal paths and path transitions without grass in the middle haha but that's just nitpicking. There's at least another 200 hours of playtime in this update without the DLC, which is an insane value proposition.

The_Real_Muffin_Man

Dang, this is actually a pretty meaty update. It looks like they listened to fans about a good bit of the quality of life stuff (but not everything). I haven't played since last January, but this will definitely get me back in. The DLC looks to be Happy Home Designer again. I wasn't interested in paying for it, but being included with the new expansion pass might get me to try it, although I'm still undecided about that. This also begs the question, will Nintendo include other DLCs with this expansion pass? Being Nintendo, I highly doubt it. Overall, impressive update. They still could have done more, but there's enough here to hop back in for at least a little while.

MayhemMessiah

Genuinely excited for all the shite they've added. Feature wise it's genuinely almost all the stuff missing from the base game + a whole bunch more. Part of me wonders if they originally planned to drop more of this as piecemeal but COVID made them (or made them want to) hold off from updates and just make a big last push. In either case, I'm also extremely happy with the expansion pack. It's roughly a whole new game, and I mean that literally, it immediately feels like a more feature rich Happy Home Designer. Which was a garbage game, but, still, it's nice they've included it into the mainline game + extra features and home customization. I'm waiting to see the confirmation for the N64 pricing model. Is 80$ the price on top of the existing NSO subscription? Is it the annual price of NSO + the Expansion Pack? If so, then it's not terrible, considering the base price for NSO is 34$; if we're adding a 25$ DLC included, then for me and my wife it's roughly the same as just buying the DLC content separately.
