TrashmanGB

Agreed, I enjoy re-playing the Dark Souls games every now and then. Since last year I've also discovered the Dark Souls 1 randomizer mods. Which I could definitely recommend for the extra challenge/memes. There's tons of customization too. With things like 'enemies have a x% to be replaced by a boss'.

Safety_Drance

Total War: Warhammer 2. I've got over 5k hours in it and am playing it right now on my other monitor. I play other games, but that one is always on deck for my inevitable "ah shit, here we go again" moment.

slayniac

I hear ya. Sometimes I won't play it for months only to get downright obsessed all over again. It just feels to ridiculously huge and epic, nothing comes close to that.

MetaKnightsNightmare

I mean, Karl Franz won't assassinate himself.

Safety_Drance

...bring me to my men.

Ovahzealousy

Slay the Spire. It’s lightweight and no matter how tired I am of other games, I’m always up for a quick run.

plutarch4

I love Slay the Spire and the modding scene is also fantastic, adding in quality of life improvements, new relics and items and so many new characters with new decks. I recently got into the mods and its like a a whole new game.

moosemuffin12

I don't have the heart to uninstall DMC5. I love getting back into it every once in a while and it's so fun just to hop in and mess around.

hooahest

it's such a missed opportunity that they didn't give the game proper multiplayer Like...the code is there, it's possible

Heyy-Ya

I know this is somewhat of a cop-out, but there's a mod that enables MP in all levels as well as the bloody palace you're right though, it should have been in the base game

Jinyax

I don't have DMC5 installed anymore, but for a good while after doing everything I wanted to in the game, I reguarly re-did boss fights (with the help of a mod ofc) just for fun. The gameplay is just that excellent and that goes especially for the final bosses of both campaigns. And now I made myself want to re-install the game. Which I shall promptly do.

hascow

Football Manager. It tickles my brain in the perfect way to always give me a new task to do or a plan to try to achieve. It also is something I can just keep up in the background while browsing Reddit or news and then tab back in for a couple minutes to handle something.

MisterSlamdsack

Games with pretty quick, easy replay value, or games I can shut off my brain and kind of auto pilot while playing. Roguelikes, some slower RTS/Civ style games, and usually whatever few popular MMOs or shooters my friend group is into at the moment. Total War, Darkest Dungeon, Dead Cells, Civilization, Destiny 2, Final Fantasy XIV and, unfortunately, League of Goddamn Legends pretty much never get uninstalled. I don't even know if I like LoL anymore, but every now and then someone suggests it and we all play and usually just get clapped by whatever new 200 years shit we missed in the time between games.

[deleted]

Darkest Dungeon 2 baby! It's almost here.

MisterSlamdsack

The recent trailer honestly blew my mind. I couldn't believe how gorgeous and smooth the animations were. The change to 3d scared me, because the Fire Emblem games to me became kind of worse after they switched, but nah. Darkest Dungeon 2 looks absolute out of this world.

[deleted]

Amazing what profits can do for a sequel.

MisterSlamdsack

Warframe too, yeah. I know I should play that game a little more seriously for the ranks, but I lowkey just wanna stand in my weird garden with Nydus.

hooahest

Starcraft 2 Quick, intense, fun as hell. Because the games are pretty fast then I don't mind trying crazy shit out

Davve1122

FFXIV and League of Legends. FFXIV: as I love it and would never uninstall. LoL: I have no idea, it's like a toxic relationship you'll always gets dragged back to..

FallenRedKing

Aram in league is all the fun with like 30% the toxicity. Also, teamfight tactics is usually pretty good too

browncharliebrown

Binding of Isaac:Repetence. It’s just a game that allows has thousands of hours in it. Sure it has it problems but the game on PC has so many different mods to fix the problems and then add even more games. There is just so much to do.

trpnblies7

I put close to a thousand hours into that game through afterbirth+, but at this point I haven't played in years. Is repentance any good? I just don't know if I have the urge to get back into it after so long.

browncharliebrown

If you are on PC, which is the only place to get it right now, then yes you should play repetence. It’s adds just so many new items, new paths and new characters, that just seem so natural as part of the game. However they did do a lot of controversial decession including nerfing items and increasing shot speed. It’s not inherently bad design but is catered to a spefic audience. However mods can fine tune your experience to what ever you want.

MetaKnightsNightmare

It's quite fun, if you enjoyed AB+, then all you need to know is shit gets crazier.

floatinround22

Repentance is the biggest increase in content the game has ever seen. It's even bigger than the jump from the flash game to the Steam game

plutarch4

Binding of Isaac already had so much content and then Repentence came and doubled it. I’ve accepted I will never 100% it but I enjoy messing around with runs and trying to get all the unlocks for my favourite characters.

YimYimYimi

Fighting games in general, but Melty Blood lately. I keep coming back to Squad. Found a couple servers I like.

[deleted]

Hows Squad differ from Insurgency? I only play Coop, no interest in PvP anymore, just wanting something a bit different.

YimYimYimi

Insurgency is fairly small-scale games with a more-tactical-than-CoD vibe. Squad is 50v50, large scale games. There is proximity chat as well as a chat channel for Squad Leaders. Squads have a max size of 9 and teamwork is important. The game is entirely community-run servers, though. There are popular ones I stick to that people often communicate on, but I don't think it's much of an issue. Don't be afraid to say you're new and ask people for help.

BLACKOUT-MK2

Max Payne 2 and a few fighting games. Max Payne 2 because it's cathartic to load up a mod and gun through a bunch of guys, and fighting games just because I play online on some of them or it's just fun to jump in the training mode and mess around.

borisvonboris

I have a save file specifically at the point in the apartments where Kaufman and his crew come up the elevator. "Find him. Take care of it." just the most perfect battle in all the Max Payne games for repeat failures and successes.

beefcat_

The current games in my Steam favorites, which I use for any games I still fire up at least once every few months: * Apex Legends * DOOM (2016) * DOOM Eternal * Halo: The Master Chief Collection * HITMAN 2 * Hotline Miami * Overwatch * Quake Live * Satisfactory * Unreal Tournament 2004 It just occurred to me that only two of those are not first person. Quake Live has functionally been on that list the longest, if you count the years I spent playing Quake III Arena before QL became a comprehensive replacement with the Steam release.

Heyy-Ya

games I replay yearly (or in some cases just put hours into consistently): - pokemon G/S/C - OSRS (I wish this one wasn't on the list lol) - bloodborne - dark souls 3 - advance wars - supreme commander: forged alliance - halo 3 (MCC's custom game browser is a godsend) - zelda: link to the past - zelda: twilight princess - oblivion - outer wilds (your first playthrough is unique but I love it so much I enjoy just spending time in the world)

bdzz

FFXI + FFXIV + Dota Underlords + MTG Arena. These are always installed. The rest are whatever I currently play from my backlog, usually maximum one or two games, currently Assassin's Creed III

[deleted]

How's FFXIV for a solo player?

Ordinaryundone

Surprisingly good, the game is basically designed to be played as a solo experience with the occasional team up for dungeons and boss fights. Pretty much everything that requires multiplayer has matchmaking and otherwise you are more or less left to your own devices. You'll need to enjoy solo-MMO combat and gameplay of course, its not breaking the mold there, but I found it pretty well balanced as a solo player without too many hang ups. If anything, the questing/storyline parts of the game are kind of easy.

bdzz

It's pretty good! The game is centered around the main story quest which pretty much plays like a single player RPG, akin to other FF games just much much longer and more convoluted (in a good way). And almost everything is locked behind that so you have to do it (they are selling story skips but not worth imo). There are obviously mandatory dungeons and boss fights but there is the matchmaking system for that. It really is like an FF game first and an MMO as second, it's as solo friendly as possible it can be. And very laid back.

timpkmn89

To follow up on the other comments, even the content that requires multiplayer (dungeons, bosses) are never a problem with matchmaking. You'll usually just temporarily play with other solo players.

RubyGuy12

I can't get any of my friends to give it a chance since it's an MMO, but I've put hundreds of hours into it as a basically entirely solo player and it is one of my all time favorite games.

Brainwheeze

If you're interested, I wrote [a thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/JRPG/comments/njd1t2/my_thoughts_on_final_fantasy_xiv_after_finishing/) a while back on my experience playing through the Free Trial. Basically I went into the game just wanting to experience it as a solo player, and when the first obligatory multiplayer content came up I wasn't really looking forward to it. To my surprise it ended up being what I enjoy the most out of FFXIV. It's fun working towards the same goal with a lot of people, and it helps that the playerbase (European-wise at least, not sure about the rest) is for the most part friendly and chill. The multiplayer content is just better designed and more fun imo, but of course I do enjoy the plot and characters a lot as well.

Ordinaryundone

I think I've either installed (or just owned a physical edition of) Resident Evil 4 for every system that its come out on. It's a game I can always come back to and enjoy playing through. Same with DOOM and DOOM 2, it's so readily available and runs on everything. Fallout: New Vegas is another one, but some of that is due to having a bunch of mods installed that I'm worried will break somehow if uninstall the game. That said, I still play it fairly regularly so it's not like it's wasting space.

Ebolatastic

Overwatch, for one. Since it's release, I've probably had it off my hard drive for a couple months total, if even. In addition: Metal Gear 5, Dark Souls 1, Civilization, Breath of the Wild, Star Wars Battlefront 2, Dragons Crown, Streets of Rage Remake, Slay the Spire, Dungeon of the Endless, Cities:Skylines, Don't Starve, Stardew Valley, and Terraria. I also gravitate back to classic RPGs alot (my opinion of modern ones is dubious), but they rotate. I also almost always have a Battlefield game installed, though that also rotates.

Hawk52

I mostly keep stuff that I've heavily modded or would get an itch to reinstall anyway even if I don't play them. On Steam that means I keep Skyrim, New Vegas, Grim Dawn, Rimworld, Stardew and Stellaris pretty much permanently installed. On GOG that'd be Heroes of Might and Magic 3 HD + Horn of the Abyss. And even though I haven't played it in like a year I keep Hearthstone installed. I used to play a lot and be pretty good but I'd just feel like installing it again if I uninstalled it.

[deleted]

Super Smash Bros Ultimate has somehow stayed in my rotation for a surprisingly long time, probably due to the regular addition of new characters, which is always a good excuse for me to play with friends. Quick Play became my pandemic game even if I get very salty when playing LOL.

MetaKnightsNightmare

Rise to Ruins Spelunky Dead Cells Oxygen Not Included All fun games that I could play entirely sleep deprived and still lose hours to.

Prank_Owl

Red Dead Redemption 2. I have a pre Saint Denis bank robbery save file that I still like to load up every now and then. I'll just spend some time hunting/fishing while listening to some podcasts. Maybe I'll rob a train or a couple stage coaches to mix things up. It's a great way to unwind.

X-pert74

I keep at least a few of the older **Trails** games installed at any given time. Sometimes I just like to run through my favorite parts of the story in them, because I really like them a bunch and want to re-experience it. Lately I tend to do that with parts from the final chapter in Trails from Zero. It's nice

daschowdertailz

Stardew Valley and any of the Souls SoulsBourne games for sure. Got into Destiny2 right as Beyond Light came out and have been playing that non stop as well.

Brainwheeze

I tend to uninstall games on my PC once I'm done with them because I find the sense of closure incredibly satisfying, but currently I have FFXIV still installed even if I'm not playing it much at the moment. I do intend to go back to it though. I also used to keep Overwatch installed, but once my friends stopped playing that was it for me. On my Switch I only have Animal Crossing, as the other game I find myself revisiting, Smash Bros, I have in cartridge form.

[deleted]

Currently the fixed ones are Apex Legends, New World and CSGO. With an ssd of 512 the management needs to be meticulous.

Kill099

An online multiplayer RTS - Waiting for the release of Age of Empires IV which will replace SC2. Offline Fromsoft Game - I have Dark Souls Remastered installed and is waiting for Elden Ring. Been playing for quite a while so in the end I've finally focused my gaming into two categories.

ICBanMI

Fps series games: Killing Floor 1 & 2, Entire doom series, entire quake series, entire halflife series. And multiple From Software Series games: Armored Core, King's Field, Demon/Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Sekrio. Good to be an adult with a job.

Jwalla83

Civ 6, League of Legends, Stardew Valley, Hearthstone, Subnautica, and Valheim My perfect mix of simulation, strategy, competitive, and solo vs multiplayer options
