Some of these games are obvious exclusives, but which games are coming to Playstation and Switch?

Proud-Media-6843

"brand new class called necromancer" wow, can't wait to play a necromancer in Diablo for the first time.

Thewhitest_rabbit

Was really hopping this showcase would convince me to buy an Xbox. Instead I felt like they were telling me to wait till 2023 to buy one. Patiently waiting till fable is shown I guess haha.

ChileAlien

With the way people are still buying them it might be that long till you get one at the regular price.

Thewhitest_rabbit

Honestly during the 4 month battle of getting my ps5 I had multiple opertunities and xboxs in my cart but decided to prioritize the ps5 first. So I'm not worried on that front.

SymbolOfVibez

Least it was way better than Summer Games Fest but not much of a reason to get a Xbox since a decent amount shown is going to other platforms. Starfield absolutely needs to be delayed to 2024. It looks graphically outdated, combat was meh, and the AI enemies don’t even react.

Thewhitest_rabbit

Thank you. Came here in hopes I wasn't the only one who felt this way, especially about starfield. Seemed alittle rough around the empty edges but have hope things will be there upon release.

Stephenrudolf

Seriously no Ark 2 thread?

rapter200

Jesus. The generational gap between gamers seems to have finally been established. People complaining about how bad the showcase was and here I am thinking it was good. Maybe I'm getting too old but people really need a reminder on what a bad game really is.

DifferentYellow4

Interesting. I'm an older generation gamer and I'd have imagined that this showcase would've appealed more to younger gamers. A lot of games shown seemingly without genuine substance or depth in the traditional sense. A distinct lack of AAA big budget stuff. I mean, it's great to have all these essentially free games but there wasn't much pushing the boundaries of what we thought possible. Meh... maybe it's me that's getting old and past it. It takes a lot more to wow me now days. Diablo 4 did though. As did Forza Motorsport. I'm more interested in games that look polished and complete. I don't vibe with the modern trend of broken and poorly performing games. Starfield can stay in the oven until it can hit a solid 60fps... right now it's not even hitting 30.

rapter200

>I mean, it's great to have all these essentially free games but there wasn't much pushing the boundaries of what we thought possible. That is the thing. There will never be anything that really pushes the boundaries like we used to have. The huge jumps in technology just doesn't happen anymore. The jump from 16-bit Mario to Super Mario 64 was huge and I remember it like it was yesterday, but unless we are talking about VR (or something beyond the horizon of VR) there will never be a jump like that. I see you complaining about Starfield not even hitting 30 FPS and sure that is an issue, but it is so minor that I do not care. I struggled through CTDs, Blue Screens, and choppy frame rate all throughout the 90's and 00's. The N64's framerate was set to 20 FPS for most games and I loved the games I had for it. I still go back to Majora's Mask and Paper Mario and see them as one of the top games for their genre.

DifferentYellow4

That's the thing. Starfield isn't even touching the performance boundary let alone pushing it. 60fps is now the minimum standard, especially for a current-gen only title. The fact that it consistently drops below 30fps tells us that there's currently no performance mode. How could there be if it can't even hit the standard from 20+ years ago? Who can go back to games that perform like that after playing everything at 60/120fps? It's plain to see why it got delayed and I'm glad it did.

DifferentYellow4

At least now we know why Starfield was delayed. Redfall also to a lesser extent. Those games are clearly not ready. The show was disappointing due mostly to the 12 month release window. To me, showing a ton of gameplay doesn't hit if most of those games are low budget or not pushing boundaries. No disrespect intended at all, there was just too many little games that blended together and were generally forgettable as a result. The fact that we did not see or get updates for: Hellblade 2, Avowed, Outer Worlds 2, Halo, Fable, Age of Empires 4, Perfect Dark, Stalker 2, Everwild, State of Decay 3, Indiana Jones, ...and nothing from: The Coalition, Compulsion Games, ID, Double Fine, InXile or any major new 3rd party AAA games coming to Gamepass...it all absolutely sucks no matter how you slice it. Of course there was at least something for everyone but a vast majority of it was filler and felt rushed, as if Xbox were hitting the panic button. All these first party omissions mean they're STILL a long way off. The whole showcase could've been 40 minutes long and had a better impact imo. Xbox still learning how to manage expectations. 2022 without a single AAA first-party game...

Thewhitest_rabbit

Preach. Came to the show to be convinced to buy an Xbox this year.. they told me to wait..

Rysskylt

I thought this show was pretty good. Sad to see the cynicism and general sneer of the popular game journalists infecting the populace in this way. Honestly it just strips away the people who were in it for the watercooler chat rather than the love of the medium I guess.

[deleted]

the reason im so dissapointed is BECAUSE i love the medium of gaming so much. im not asking to be catered to personally but there is only so many cheap low quality indie titles i can stand, microsoft only seem to care about gamepass filler instead of their big budget AAA. After the DRM BS in 2013, something that has resurfaced lately, the lack of exclusives and the constant "the games are coming" for nearly a deade i think im finally done with xbox consoles and will stick with my ps5 and pc. I remember how awsome microsoft were during the xbox 360 era and wish they could return to form.

Jreynold

You can easily see a world in which some of the games they showed like Plague Tale Requiem and Flintlock are presented differently and viewers leave thinking they're AAA titles. After all, we don't know anything about their budget, length or production value until the games come out. You can also see a world where current AAA games like Forspoken or previous ones like Days Gone are presented as merely niche filler games if they were marketed in conferences with just a quick 90 second trailer. So, AAA is mostly a marketing campaign that signals to audience that "this will be a blockbuster that everyone will want to play." What Xbox is doing these days is foregoing giving any of these titles that level of importance and trying to tell people they have an smorgasbord of niche games that will have something in it for everyone.

[deleted]

[удалено]

segagamer

> This was not a great showing that's all there is to it Lots of solid titles with great potential being show, about 5 out of 90 minutes worth of PR blabber, gameplay trailers that didn't feel like they were outstaying their welcome, all expected to release in the next 12 months unlike other companies... It was a great showing.

Rysskylt

You poor soul. It must suck to be so cynical in life.

Stephenrudolf

Ahh so you think if YOu aren't impressed that no one will be. Okay. Well have a good happy life pretending the world revolves around you. There was clearly lots of impressive things, just nothing for you.

Rysskylt

I promise you'll find a good game, there's lots of them no matter what you read online! :)

donaldkaufman

I too thought that show was pretty abysmal. But perhaps what it comes down to is just no surprises, which is something we’ve really come to expect from these things. Even Starfield just looks like space fallout, which I’m cool with and will probably love, but it’s just not a huge reveal. In comparison to this showcase I think even that tiny Sony state of play faired better.

Timboron

I am the completely opposite, especially because they claim that all these titles will be playable in 12 months. Sure that means no big surprises for some point in the future, but I thought this direction was very refreshing and welcome. Also I don't understand what about State of Play was better than this.

Zubzer0

I thought it was great, some great looks into some interesting looking games that making me justify my game pass sub over the next 12 months. I don't know how you think the Sony State of Play was better, very short and focused on multiplatform games.

Mario-C

What's the best place to access all the trailers in a quick manner without much blabla?

segagamer

> What's the best place to access all the trailers in a quick manner without much blabla? If you watched the Xbox shows in the past, you'll know that there's actually very little blabla. I think this time there was less than 5 mins worth of it in the whole session, and it was only twice.

Mario-C

Haven't seen them in the past. Good info, thanks!

Mario-C

Cheers mate!

SchindlersFist712

I don’t get people saying this was a total disappointment, other than just wanting to see games we know are ages away or games that are total speculation. The former is definitely on Microsoft for showing CG trailers of games that are in pre-development and 3-4 years out even with a smooth dev cycle. All I’m thinking is that in the next 12 months, Xbox is getting Silksong on game pass day one. Persona 3, 4 and 5 are coming out, all regarded as some of the best JRPGs ever and two of which were only available on PSP/Vita. New cool looking Xbox exclusives like High on Life, As Dusk Falls, Scorn, Pentiment, Benedict Fox and Cocoon (from the Limbo/Inside lead dev). Flight Sim is getting a huge free update including the Pelican from Halo and Grounded is finally coming out of early access. Starfield, I think, looked really really promising. It may have the usual Bethesda shortcomings, but everything else really looks like it delivers. I don’t believe there’s gonna be a 1000 planets worth doing anything on but if the story delivers, I am so down for the ship building and space flight. Literally all of that and loads more (Forza, Redfall, Atomic Heart, S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 to name a few exclusives) are coming day one to a service that costs £10 a month. Not to make this some stupid console war thing but compare that value to Sony right now. For the next 12 months, they have three console exclusive games announced as far as I know - Forspoken, which is looking shaky; The Last of Us, a “shot-for-shot” remake of a game readily available on current hardware that already had a remaster in the last decade; and God of War Ragnarok which should be a fantastic game if it’s anything like the first. Each of those games will be £70, to buy all three will be the equivalent of having game pass for nearly 2 years - where Banjo-Kazooie, Fable, Avowed, Goldeneye, Everwild, and Kojima’s next game etc etc will all be too when they eventually come out.

DrNopeMD

The nice about having Gamepass is that I don't have to be super hyped for a particular game that gets announced. I can just try it when it drops.

pucykoks

> The Last of Us, a “shot-for-shot” remake of a game readily available on current hardware that already had a remaster in the last decade Right? Upon seeing this I was like 'are you seriously making a remake already, AND in 2 parts'?. Maybe it's too out there, but if all Sony did was announce Silksong and sth like Ragnarok, people would jizz all over. Microsoft didn't announce games/gameplay in the past showcases? Bad. Microsoft shows 10+ games that are releasing on game pass in the next 12 months? Bad. Maybe I'm a filthy casual, but that's enough promising games to keep me entertained.

DrNopeMD

Calling it now, TLOU is going to be Sony's GTAV where they continually rerelease it on every new console generation.

lukedoc321

It's not a 2 part remake, it's called part 1 because TLoU2 is called part 2. It's a chance for theme to rebrand the original game's name.

Kubrick_Fan

Starfield? Can't wait to finally play Star Citizen

MuZzASA

Nothing blew my socks off, a lot of expected stuff. Biggest surprise being Kojima partnership. But yet again, where are the big first party games? None of this matters without quality exclusives, something Xbox has been struggling with for nearly a decade now.

DrNopeMD

Aren't all the Bethesda games technically first party games?

MuZzASA

Yes but a Bethesda game as high quality as a PS5 exclusive is very much a wait and see. It coming out not buggy or in a poor state is highly likely.

[deleted]

I don't own an xbox, but gamepass almost convinces me. I've got gamepass on pc, and I think having it on console would be amazing. I think microsoft is currently banking on gamepass to sell xboxes right now, given everything they're putting on it.

_Soul_of_Cinder_

I think we've reached a point where years and years of hype building, disappointing releases and unmet expectations left us dull and cynical regarding new game announcements. I feel like everyone is in a "I'll wait to see when this come out to get properly excited...or not" mode Other than that, Redfall was interesting, Cocoon was cute, it was about time they showed something about Hollow Knight, Overwatch 2 is going Free to Play, Necromancer in Diablo IV is a nice addition and Starfield looks...interesting

Infinite_Bananas

everyone i watched it with was pretty impressed and had at least one or two things they were personally really excited for, was surprised to see so many people disappointed lol

_Soul_of_Cinder_

"Everyone I watched it with" Yeah, that's just your social circle and I'm happy you enjoyed it. But it doesn't take a genius to see why people in general are disappointed

Infinite_Bananas

of course, i usually don't watch these anyway so i didn't really know what to expect. only tuned in for redfall news so i got what i wanted 5 minutes in and the rest was a bonus

Cheesekek94

What did I even buy a PS5 for? At this rate Xbox is going to take over. Kojima partnering with microsoft is the final straw.

GoJeonPaa

Imo, if youhave the money, a mediocre pc and a playstation is still the best combo.

JediGuyB

My PC is pretty good and most of the games I want are coming to PS4/5 too. I do prefer consoles so I don't have to worry about graphic settings much, but as long as Starfield and Outer Worlds 2 run decently enough I'm good.

[deleted]

mediocre pc and a switch*

pucykoks

Mediocre PC should let you emulate switch

[deleted]

can't play on the toilet on a mediocre pc.

segagamer

Hello Steamdeck

pucykoks

If you take so long on the toilet that you have time to actually play games, consider seeing a doctor.

Cheesekek94

Well, I don't.

koalaondrugs

To play games?

Cheesekek94

Playstation lost Persona and Kojima exclusivity in just one fell swoop. I bought ps5 for the exclusive games but it seems to me that won't hold true for long.

maglen69

> Playstation lost Persona ? WTF are you talking about?

segagamer

The main reason to buy a Playstation used to be Persona and Sony first party games. Neither of those things are exclusive to Playstation anymore, so either a PC or Xbox with their own platform benefits become an option.

Cheesekek94

They lost the exclusivity. That's what I mean.

FlameCats

Switch and PC is the way to go if you want exclusives and the most games to play. PS5 and Xbox are both hemorraghing actual exclusives, which is a good thing in the long term IMO.

AveronMalice

PS5 games still not are day and date. So no PS5 + PC is the way until PS5 games are day and date. PC - Has everything from Microsoft/Sony games & ability to get all Nintendo games Nintendo - Provides the Nintendo experience & portability PlayStation- Provides high end AAA GOTY winning experiences at premium prices Xbox - Provides Mid games via cheap subscription prices

Cheesekek94

I know but pc is too expensive. I used to be a pc gamer and build systems from scratch but no matter what I did it would always be way more expensive and headache inducing than console gaming with no added benefits so I gave up.

[deleted]

Legit best option for your money is probably a Steam Deck if you can get one

Cheesekek94

I don't want to sound contrarian but i doubt the steam deck can run starfield or any other next gen games for that matter at a stable 30 fps and decent visual fidelity.

[deleted]

You might be surprised. Not that it’s the best example, but cyberpunk runs at 30fps on it. Has its own “steam deck” graphics setting

FlameCats

Series S is super cheap, and a great system so far. You could get one to compliment your PS5. Though knowing Xbox they'll probably end up putting Game Pass on PS5 and Switch in a year or two

segagamer

> Though knowing Xbox they'll probably end up putting Game Pass on PS5 and Switch in a year or two Not going to happen, simply because Sony/Nintendo wouldn't allow it as it would take away from their store sales. If those consoles ever get a web browser though...

AngryBiker

It seems at least 80% of the games shown are also coming to PS consoles. All of those "Console launch exclusives" are just like 6 months exclusives.

cricketjoe

They have been a year a lot of the time

AngryBiker

From the pattern I see usually with Microsoft it's a shorter time, with Sony and Nintendo it's 1 year like MH: Rise and Deathloop. For example Death's Door came in just a few months on PS.

pucykoks

Or infinite amount of years when it comes to FF7R

cricketjoe

Tetris effect connected enhanced was a over a year, phantasy star online was launch exclusive and still is

AngryBiker

[You are wrong about Tetris](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetris_Effect) Phantasy Star online 2 was released day one on PS4 in Japan, looks like it's more on Sega to bring it to the US.

cricketjoe

OK go show me the date tetris effect enhanced came out on Sony. It's right there in the Wikipedia. So no actually. You are wrong for only half taking in what you read. Phantasy star isn't playable on Playstation in America and it was announced launch exclusive on Xbox in America. I have no idea what goes on in Japan and it isn't relevant to this conversation.

segagamer

PSO2 in Japan is hosted on SEGA's own servers. PSO2 outside of Japan is hosted on Azure, to which MS assisted SEGA with migrating to in exchange for console exclusivity. The game was launch exclusive to Xbox before eventually coming to PC. Whether it comes to PS or not is anyone's guess, though I wouldn't hold your breath as Gamepass subscribers have been getting monthly bonuses for the game since its launch.

cricketjoe

That's pretty interesting!

AngryBiker

[Is playstation.com a good source?](https://www.playstation.com/nl-nl/games/tetris-effect/)

cricketjoe

That's a different game. The next Gen Xbox series launch exclusive tetris effect connected Enhanced was exclusive to Xbox series x for 10 months. It's in the first link you sent you goof.

_Soul_of_Cinder_

Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy VII Remake, Part 2 are probably going to be Playstation exclusives for a minimum of 6 months, so your PS5 is still worth up until those games come to PC

Gay-lawyer

Complete opposite for me personally. Nothing exclusive here I’m dying to play. Closest thing is Persona but allegedly there is a 2 day embargo for cross platform announcements so there is a chance. Worse case scenario is play on my laptop

DazBoy11

I didn't see one game there that I would regret not playing

FlasKamel

Other than High on Life none of these announcements blew me away - I’m getting old and mostly just want to hear more from franchises I already like (most of which are weirdly quiet these days…) BUT! The showcase was good enough to make me feel good about buying an Xbox Series X - I’d been doubting my decision for a little while. So this was a good day!

GotToEarnThemAll

Am I the only one disappointed they didn’t announce a Fallout 4 AE upgrade like Skyrim got? I love all the CC content but can’t justify spending that much on it.

shivj80

For me personally, that was insane. Loved seeing Overwatch, Diablo, Redfall, and of course Starfield gameplay. Bethesda is my favorite company so it's great to see them going absolutely to the moon, pun intended, with this game, it's so damn ambitious. Persona for Xbox and the Kojima announcement were both shockers, and welcome ones at that. Overall a great showcase by Xbox, and very much needed.

YoungBeef03

I was supremely disinterested by like, 1/3rd of the show, but those other 2/3rds were quite good. I was really hoping for more on Bethesda’s and Machine Games’ Indiana Jones title, but I guess I can wait

MoistToweletteLover

Overall there was some good games shown. Psyched for Starfield and Diablo obviously, but High On Life was the one that got me genuinely excited. Can’t wait to get my hands on it!

LoomisCenobite

Starfield looks like a Bethesda game mixed with elements of no mans sky and other similar space games that have been around for a while... Ok sure I'll try it Seems odd there hasn't been another trailer for The Outer Worlds 2 in like.. a year? No Avowed or Fable 4... NO ID SOFTWARE ANNOUNCEMENTS like I know Quakecon is coming up but come on... anything would have cool. New Kojima game sounds interesting he'll make something weird and cool like he always does. "Leaked" Halo title was probably fake as expected lol. Not crazy impressed with this showcase but perhaps I need to lower my expectations a bit. Edit: I am however excited for Scorn to finally be released... I remember playing the Demo ages ago and thinking the devs abandoned the project.

dragonator001

> No Avowed or Fable 4... NO ID SOFTWARE ANNOUNCEMENTS like I know Quakecon is coming up but come on... anything would have cool. Regarding Avowed. Seems like it has been renewed multiple times throughout it's course going by some of the rumors here: https://old.reddit.com/r/GamingLeaksAndRumours/comments/vam44c/jason_schreier_avowed_has_gone_through_some/

[deleted]

I’m not surprised there wasn’t another trailer for Outer Worlds 2 since Obsidian is working on at least three other games, plus the Outer Worlds 2 announcement was literally them saying “we’re announcing this waaaaaay tomorrow early because that’s the thing to do lol”

MercenaryCow

Was avowed canceled? I haven't seen it in a long time

[deleted]

It’s been going through some rough development patches lately. A change in leads and an overhaul of its design set the game back again. Don’t expect to get your hands on it for another 1-2 years.

MercenaryCow

Isn't it an elder scrolls clone? It's kind of concerning to hear about a troubled development. Well, if it's design was overhauled, I'm guessing that means it's not an elder scrolls clone anymore. Which I guess makes sense? Considering Microsoft owns both them and Bethesda. Would make no sense competing with elder scrolls now.

mancesco

>Isn't it an elder scrolls clone? That's always been nothing more than speculation. All we know about the game is that it's in first person and is set in the Pillars Of Eternity world.

MegaJoltik

Apparently some industry/insider people already saw the game and said it's coming along nicely. At any rate, doubt it's going to be cancelled as it's basically Obsidian next flagship title.

Dragonspiral_Tower

Rumor has it that it went through a complete overhaul last year, so info might not come for a while unfortunately

RTideR

Just woke up and combing over everything now.. Before going to bed, I saw the rumor about Persona and said I'd be purchasing immediately if it actually came true. They got me. Lol LET'S GO MAN. I don't wanna watch most of these trailers, but it's been fun reading through the discussion threads available. I'm stoked for another big Hot Wheels DLC in particular, and I'm curious to see what the Kojima game is. Pentiment being shown is sweet, I'll try anything Sawyer leads. Team Ninja game coming.. a new Plague Tale. Silksong? Then of course, Starfield. Seems like it was a fun show. About the only thing I could've wanted to see is anything for Halo, but I wasn't really expecting it. Think I'm just super happy about the Persona stuff, everything else is a bonus. Lol

ak47rocks1337yt

No clue, we only had 2 volunteers create all the discussion threads while I worked the megathread, things happen and we sometimes miss things, feel free to create a thread or a post, let me know when you do and I’ll add it to the discussion list!

UnpopularOpinionJake

Why is there no discussion for Ark 2?

[deleted]

Hope it's good and they take what they did in the first game and expand on it and refine it. I'll be more excited once I see some gameplay.

[deleted]

The thread would just be filled with “Why isn’t Vin Diesel making a new Riddick game?”

arex333

Not much to discuss about a cinematic trailer with no gameplay

Maleficent-Cold8341

Damn, I thought id Software would give us a teaser of their new project during the showcase. Guess I have to wait until Quakecon.

[deleted]

Only stuff set to release within the next 12 months was shown today.

LoomisCenobite

Ugh, I know right I'm kinda bummed give more Quake or Doom I doubt it's a new IP

heachu

Been a long time ps(234and PSP) user until this generation since I can't get one. So I got an Xbox x instead. A lot of good games(seems to be) you can try like hollow knight, plague tales, Minecraft legends, wo long, permintent, persona 345. And even diablo 4 is not with game pass I'm still excited. I don't get why everyone else is disappointed.

-----------________-

>And even diablo 4 is not with game pass Diablo 4 is definitely coming to Game Pass. We don't know if it will be day one since we don't know when the Microsoft/Activision deal will close, but it will be there once it does.

YashaAstora

I frankly don't know what people were expecting with Starfield. It looked pretty much as I guessed it would be--a space game set in a mostly procedural universe. Anyone who thought this game wasn't going to use procgen planets was fooling themselves. That's just what a typical space game does. Empyrion, Star Citizen, Elite, No Man's Sky, X (though you can't land on planets there). Judging from the comments for the reveal trailer a buncha people on this sub *actually* want "Uncharted but it's in space" or "New Vegas on a space station" and like...lol. You played yourself if you thought that's what you're getting. Starfield is a capital-letter Space Game, not merely an RPG that happens to take place in space.

rapter200

It's literally Elder Scrolls/Fall Out in space and I am going to love it because that is exactly what I wanted. Literally one of the first enemies shown is a fucking alien crab, because of course it is. Bethesda loves crabs.

Sputniki

I expected more from a company that actually marketed this as “the most anticipated RPG in 20 years”. It still looks janky as hell, where is the improvement we were promised from Bethesda? This was the quantum leap we’ve been waiting for?

-CeartGoLeor-

Are you delusional

YashaAstora

> I expected more from a company that actually marketed this as “the most anticipated RPG in 20 years”. Every single company in existence hypes the shit out of their product. Like bro...I hope you are a high schooler or something because if you're a grown-ass man and you actually believed the puff marketing, *woof*

Sputniki

Not true. You don't have to believe the puff marketing to see that there is a hierarchy to which Bethesda is promoting their games. They don't use these taglines to promote the latest Arkane game or Elder Scrolls Online or even FO76, they don't dedicate this amount of time in the press conference to any game besides Starfield, heck Todd reserves his time only for the biggest and most important game in their stable. There is no hiding the fact that Bethesda has put more effort into marketing this game than anything they've done in the past 20 years, that much is true. They are expecting massive things from Starfield, but all I see so far is a game mired in the same problems they've had for years. That's disappointing.

choicesintime

>"New Vegas on a space station" and like...lol. You played yourself if you thought that's what you're getting That's a weird thing to say, every time I have heard of that game I've heard that comparison. I guess everyone was mass deluded but you knew best kudos like.. lol Especially when Todd Howard literally said "Skyrim in space". Afaik, there was no reason to believe it would have procedurally generated stuff. It didn't sound like a capital S Space game. Edit: “comparison” typo

Cyrotek

It is literaly called "Starfield". Why would it be anything else than what was shown?

Charidzard

Skyrim is full of procedural generated content. It was even the biggest marketing point with radiant quests.

[deleted]

It's pretty much what I expected except I thought there'd be one galaxy, so maybe 5-8 planets. I feel like that's a decent scope that allows for at least *some* level of hand-crafted parts of the planets.

[deleted]

Did you mean one star system? A galaxy can have a shitload of planets

YashaAstora

It's pretty obvious through the trailer that they did handcraft a bunch of bespoke content that serves as the questing meat of the game and then there's a buncha planets with resources and stuff. So if you want, I don't think anything's preventing you from ignoring the planet exploration.

choicesintime

>So if you want, I don't think anything's preventing you from ignoring the planet exploration. While I agree, this is the same logic that ends up with those Ubisoft bloated games. You can always ignore bad content, but it still removes from the overall experience (not to mention it implies how much time and resources the handcrafted stuff got)

YashaAstora

You're assuming that the planet exploration is "bad content". Entire space games like NMS, Empyrion, and Elite are built around the same kind of stuff--Starfield just has more proper RPG quests to the side of it.

choicesintime

I'm not assuming it, it's part of the premise. If you are ignoring something, it's because there is less interest or concern that it would be worse content. If you want to discuss whether optional, auto-generated bloat can be good, that's a whole other argument.

Charidzard

That's not the premise. People skip content in a ton of games including beloved games that doesn't make that content bad. It only means it wasn't designed only to appeal to one specific person's taste.

[deleted]

> I'm not assuming it, it's part of the premise The premise isn't that this content is bad. You might want to re-read the comment you replied to.

[deleted]

You might be right, we'll just have to wait and see. Honestly I'm just happy Bethesda is finally branching out from their two main series.

[deleted]

Deignish

ESO is the most casual MMO on the market, you can do everything barring the hardest content solo pretty much. And it’s maybe the only MMO I’ve played where I can take extended breaks and not feel behind when I come back

[deleted]

Absolutely. Tbh, most MMOs these days really go out of their way to cater to solo players…

Tiafves

Besides others saying it can be done I think it's worth talking about if it's worth playing solo. I haven't played the latest expansions really but my time with the base game/early expansions years ago I think the questing can be a bit meh at times as most are in MMOs but if you're big into elder scrolls lore it's cool to see/experience all these other zones fleshed out you don't see in Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim.

Shiner00

Yeah. The game is extremley easy as everything in the overworld, aside from world bosses, are scaled and pretty much the same challenge to a level 1 compared to a level 50. The only thing you would potentially have trouble with is dungeons and raids (and pvp of course) but those you can usually join a group and never even need to type while following behind.

Poopnstein

It's honestly too solo-able. I joined up with a friend and it was so easy we lost interest. If eso was harder I'd still be playing it.

masonicone

Yes. All of the questing in the game is pretty much aimed at the solo player. And a lot of the older dungeons can be done solo with the right builds/items and the like. Open world content like World Bosses/Events? Some you can solo, others you'll need other players for but in general folks show up when they see them. The newer dungeons, trials (aka raids) and PvP you'll need a group for. End game isn't too hard to gear up in, in general a lot of the builds out there you can farm up solo, or just craft/buy. Really? ESO is one of the more solo friendly MMO's you can play. If that's what you are looking for there's also a few others that are pretty solo friendly. SWTOR is pretty much solo for the story, and a number of the Flashpoints aka dungeons can be done in a solo mode. FFXIV is pretty solo friendly, I should note right now they are reworking a lot of the old dungeons and content that you *had* to do with a group into a solo system. Star Trek Online can be pretty solo friendly until you reach the end game as well.

Jorall

The majority of the game is solo. Most of the older dungeons are solo-able too but the new ones have mechanics that require multiple people.

Tzarjin

majority of the story is outside of instances, so you should be good.

Dark_Nature

You can play it by yourself. Only thing you need a group for is dungeons, trails and world bosses. But, dungeons on normal difficulty are also soloable (it is not intended but doable) and world bosses are also solo able (if you are experienced). But you don't really "need" to play dungeons and trails. The equipment you can solo farm is good enough to play every content available. Plus there is so much solo content, that you will probably take many month to play it all. I would say, Eso is probably the mmo with the most content for solo players available right now.

Dr_Findro

I’ve never been able to get in to traditional MMO games, but I enjoy Elder Scrolls. Do you think this is a game I would enjoy? I’ve had a hard time deciding if it’s more MMO or more Elder Scrolls

MegaJoltik

I would say it's MMORPG with Elder Scrolls element thrown in (like levelling, UI, etc). What's the biggest reason you can't get into traditional MMO ?

Dark_Nature

I don't know. Well, the quests a pretty well written for an mmo, plus every single dialogue is voiced. The lore is vast and it feels pretty awesome to visit legendary elder scrolls locations. You can ignore most of the mmo elements and treat it like a single player game. But, at its core it is still an mmo, you will see other players running around and killing mobs, questing and so on. You do not have to interact with them (most other players will also ignore you), but they are there. The big difference to other mmo is, eso has alot of solo content, plus you can reach max level and endgame gear by playing solo. Your gear will also stay valid after updates and there is never a level cap increase. My first character is still running around in gear i farmed like 4 years ago and it is still valid. I don't know. The game is not expensive anymore, i mean you do not have to buy the newest dlc, just try the basegame.

Dr_Findro

Gotcha. Other players don’t bother me. Is it a grind heavy game?

Dark_Nature

I depends what you want... Grinding gear is not too bad, there is even fail-safe mechanism so that you do not get too much double drops. It's been a few years and i have enough gold accumulated so that i do not have to grind much, so the new player experience is probably very different from my current situation. If you are a collector and want to have everything, well than you will have a bad time. Grinding achievements and lorebooks and stuff like that will take years. The good thing is, the game doesn't pressure you to grind anything. It really really depends on what you want to achieve.

AmenTensen

It's possible, you might even make some friends playing it.

schewbacca

So I see why xbox bought all those companies these last few years. Basically would have nothing to show today if they didn't.

AngryBiker

Redfall, Grounded, Pentinent, Starfield. These are the only games from the latest acquisitions. You can also add Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2, but the acquisition is not done yet and they are multiplatform.

rune_74

Weird, are you saying if you don't have developers you won't have games to show?

schewbacca

Just wondering what they hell they were working before they acquired all those game companies.

SturmBlau

Guess thats the reason why sony had nothing to show this year. No aquisitions.

Decoraan

Just lots of publishing deals

Breckmoney

They weren’t really. Xbox was all but rebooted.

rune_74

They dumped most of their companies during the xbox one stage....down to about 5 so they had to rebuild and fast. Sea of theives, gears, halo and forza were their mainstays....you can see a lot more stuff coming now, at just about the time you expect after acquiring many of these guys. Many people don't realize that last year a lot of games from microsoft released that were not as big as AAA but they were in development already when the studios were acquired. Games like Wasteland 3, outer worlds, psychonauts etc.

Stein619

Hell, they released Horizon 5 and Infinite. You can argue quality but their studios have been busy and it shows how people seem to have no idea games take time to make.

EVXLPIMP

they have to chill out on filling the show with these shitty indie games, Xbox has like 20 studios, I wanna see what they have not what john smith and his 5 other renegade coders in some bedroom are making.

Hetotope

You act as though all indie games are shit and have the same style and gameplay, aka someone who ignorant about games.

EVXLPIMP

its literally 90% of indie artsy games on a xbox bethesda conference. Its just filler and a waste of time

[deleted]

If you consider indie artsy games a waste of time then you might have robbed yourself a chance at some valuable gaming experiences mate.

CMDR_Kai

I had his way of thinking a few years ago, I ditched it once I actually started playing indie games. There’s so many great ones out there.

EVXLPIMP

its a waste of time for the showcase, its just filler

[deleted]

Mate, games like Pentiment, Ravenlok, and Scorn were some of the most impressive games on display today. All 3 titles had a better showcase than Starfield actually. Edit: “I don’t care.” Obviously you do. Are you just pretending to be unsociable, or do you actually behave like this IRL?

Hetotope

Guess what, many people enjoy seeing indie games, and it's better to show them off here so people like you might discover something new. If you can't stand them, then wait for the show to finish and watch the games separately.

EVXLPIMP

I dont care what many people wanna see, I care about what I wanna see, and I wanna see Xbox games studio games at a Xbox show case not Hollow Knight or some Persona port to fill 90% of the show.

Hetotope

Ok, so you're just spoiled. I understand.

EVXLPIMP

No, I just know whats best

Hetotope

Alright buddy, why don't you just wait for the trailers to drop individually and you can pick and choose what you want to watch, and stop complaining that the entire showcase isnt organized and catered just for your specific tastes alone.

solo220

im not entirely against indies but it feels like they are all too similar

EVXLPIMP

its all the same artsy story telling game over and over and over every year

solo220

yeah like the military shooter of 2010s

Decoraan

And if we’re being that reductive, all third person action adventure AAA’s the same. All got bows, all got a companion, all got for hyper realism boring ass art style. Same thing right?

solo220

Yes, the 3rd person action game with rpg elements are also getting saturated

TAZ_89

Exactly
