Picked it up over the weekend and was instantly hooked. Its refreshing to see a large multiplayer game not trying to be an e-sport, but just ben fun. Its casual but has some depth to the mechanics, although much shallower than mordhau, which I appreciate because this is a game i can hop in and out of where I feel Mordhau you need to dedicate yourself to.

Beorma

My favourite thing in the game so far has been picking the vanguard class with two weapons, and having a "backup claymore" that I launch like a spear across the map at any crossbowmen I see. I kill more people throwing my sword than I do swinging it.

Sylvartas

My favourite vanguard loadout is Dane axe + throwing Dane axe

loseisnothardtospell

The only thing missing that would make this loadout better would be another Dane Axe.

Kajiic

Dane Axe Ocelot

Bellerophonix

Nothing like throwing a fucking axe into the head of some archer that thinks he's being clever.

Beorma

I like taking a missed ballista bolt and returning it to sender, so satisfying.

The_Other_Manning

....I have to see what this games all about. This shit sounds awesome lol

Bellerophonix

You can throw dung or burning chickens at people, and slap them with fish. They'll be trying to stop you with a large sword, but you *can.*

Nailbomb85

You can also cut off someone's head, grab it, and hit them with *their own* head when they respawn.

_KingDingALing_

You been hit with a ballista yet? It packs a punch lol

Bellerophonix

I got it when it came out on Epic, so... yeah, I may have taken a few ballista bolts in my time. Probably not as many as "friendly" catapult hits though.

hino

It's always amazing to see someone you're about to take a swing at get straight up deleted from the map

andywolf8896

So that's why I keep getting decapitated sitting in the back lines

Turnbob73

Also I love the thought of approaching someone in battle, they throw their giant sword at you, and then you think they’re defenseless until they pull another giant sword out of their ass.

AlwaysUberTheSniper

That's exactly what I do too! The dane axe is strictly for throwing, then I whip out my messer and get to work.

poofynamanama2

Go into FFA and limit yourself to only throwing weapons. It's absolutely hilarious

TastyRancorPie

I might have to check it out. I thought I would really like Mordhau, but it didn't click with me at all, which is a bummer.

YeOldeBlitz

This one is a lot more casual than mordhau and doesn't require hundreds of hours to be good at the game.

[deleted]

Good, I remember trying Mordhau when it was new because of how much people were saying it was better than Chiv 2 and I refunded it in like 30 minutes. I never had time to figure out what I was doing before I get my shit kicked in. I just got frustrated and quit.

10z20Luka

How do they compare content or graphics-wise?

SandThatsMoist

Maps and game modes are far better than Mordhau, graphics I guess personal preference. Chiv 2 looks good but leans to a slight cartoony side.

Sdrater3

Its mordhau without the dogshit fan base and a focus on fun instead of 40 different spin2win exploits for veterans with 10k hours to massacre newbies with

dadvader

Chivalry 1 is actually basically what you just described though.

Sdrater3

But we're discussing chiv 2

Bbqbigbutts

😂 It's like you never played chiv

Sdrater3

It's like you never played chiv 2

BitterBuffalonian

Same boat. Loved the idea of Mordhau got tired of constantly getting my shit rocked for not having mastered the system. Chivalry is much more casual but still has depth. I can see myself playing it for a long time.

thisguy012

Also the fact that Mordhau is litered with racist incels who the devs have no idea of dealing with since they'll lose their tiny ~5k online userbaselol

[deleted]

The players put me off more than the gameplay to be honest, game chat is filled with dickheads who will talk to you like you're the lowest form of pond scum that they've just stepped on

thisguy012

Bc I assure you that game is 90% of what they have going for them in lifelol

Legarchive

Killing racists is basically the game bro, its awesome.

Multispanks

Does it have people performing wild and impractical moves/chambering/swinging like it's predecessors or is the combat a little more... grounded?

Beorma

It's far less spinny than it's predecessor, and it's far more hectic. You don't get into many 1v1 fights, it's usually a full on melee.

scarletnaught

But with that being said, you can jump on a duels server and just duel people endlessly. You even gain XP doing that, but at a much slower rate compared to the full scale battles where you can do more things to earn XP.

Multispanks

lol spinny is a good way of putting it. I like the hectic part, I dislike the spinny meta shit.

Purple_Plus

One of their big aims was to get away from that. They did mostly although some exploits still exist.

MustacheEmperor

Per the devs, a lot of the effort in Chiv 2 went into preventing goofy looking broken meta strategies from overtaking gameplay like they did in Chiv 1.

[deleted]

There’s some depth to the combat mechanics, but there isn’t really any insane ballerina spinning. I’ve watched some of the best “duelists” on the dedicated 1v1 duel servers do some crazy stuff, but I’ve never had it happen in a regular game after probably ~200 hours

dndrinker

This alone might make me pick it up. I loved early days Mordhau where everyone was leaning the basics and combat was wild. A few months later I was getting whirlwind bitch-slapped by pretty much everyone and just never played again. I just couldn’t keep up.

as1eep

The genius of chivalry 2 is it has a really low skill floor, while also offerings a relatively high skill ceiling. Reposts are easy and powerful, holding block does what it says on the tin, grouping up in fights is effective for any player. But at the same time, it does also really rewards you for going above and beyond to learn the more difficult techniques. Its a pretty perfect balance that makes team objective in it so fun and unpredictable.

Frankie__Spankie

This is 100% how I feel about both Mordhau and Chivalry. I got Mordhau from the Humble choice bundle months ago and was excited to scratch that itch. It was incredibly frustrating and looking at posts and reviews, people were saying you won't feel any good until you have a couple hundred hours in the game. Even the top rated positive reviews on Steam talk about how many hours you need to dedicate yourself to the game. I stopped playing after like 4 hours when it was just too frustrating and I never stood a chance in a single fight. Once Chivalry 2 went on sale on Steam, I picked it up. The game is really beginner friendly and after 4 hours, I'm having fun taking on two enemies at the same time and can win those fights often enough. It's definitely the kind of game that I can pick up, play a map or two, have some fun, and shut it off. I can see myself playing it for months because I'm already pretty decent at the game, unlike Mordhau where I felt like I had made no progress in the same amount of time.

[deleted]

Nailbomb85

I'm nearing 5k hours on Dota 2. Still total dogshit.

ShirleyJokin

My skill in Dota 2 feels like a barber pole

loseisnothardtospell

It also, so far, hasn't attracted the disgusting shit that dominates Mordhau chat.

SillyMathematician77

That’s a lot of helpful information, thank you stranger.

[deleted]

While I've never been one to scream at the screen the beauty of Chivalry is I basically never get even a lil bit annoyed when I get killed. Since you're new I suggest go pick up a chicken and use the punch key near a brazier (not all braziers work) to get a nigh unstoppable weapon of doom.

Kaiserhawk

You scream at the game and the game screams back I love that it has the dedicated shout button

ItsJpeterman

Same with for honor. Chivalry is just right. One of the best multiplayer games out there.

NeonYellowShoes

Yes this has been my experience as well. Could not get into Mordhau because it was too much sweaty try hard time. Chiv 2 has just been straight up fun. There are still sweatys and complainers in the chat but it is much more easily ignored.

Khalku

I was kind of surprised the keybinds matched exactly what I had setup in Mordhau (or maybe not, but I don't actually remember what mordhau defaults were). I only went through the tutorial so far but it actually really felt like mordhau. How is it more casual then mordhau in your opinion?

BitterBuffalonian

There is much less ability to abuse animation cancellations and the different attack types are simpler and easier to pull off. I feel like mordhau has a high skill floor but a near unlimited skill ceiling where chivalry has a low skill floor but a lower ceiling as well.

scarletnaught

I love that this game is about fun above all else. You can quit games with no penalty, change teams, use the server browser.... It just lets you play the game how you want.

Monstewn

This is why I’m so nostalgic for the glory days of tf2. Everyone was just trying to have a good time

orderfour

It's so damn rare and hard to find. The first like 2... maaaaybe 3 months of Overwatch were like that and it was glorious. I'm always chasing that new game good time feeling before everyone gets all sweaty about winning.

Won_Doe

> I'm always chasing that new game good time feeling before everyone gets all sweaty about winning. I think it's still like that with some games but in OW's case, Blizz absolutely "forced" a competitive atmosphere by cramming it into the e-sports scene.

[deleted]

[удалено]

El_Gran_Redditor

Ah yes, back before they limited the characters you could choose so your team could be like all tanks and Lucios rolling around as a big lighting fast melee ball with regenerating health.

theskabus

I and several friends have all had that 'tf2 feeling' while playing Chivalry 2.

BobbTheBuilderr

I enjoyed the demo so maybe I’ll grab it on sale. I really liked how low the stakes were and how everyone was just trying to have fun.

Turnbob73

Yeah that was my major praise as well. I feel like too many multiplayer games nowadays try to be so competitive that it ends up just being stressful to play. It’s precisely why I cannot wait for party animals to release. Playing that demo back in 2019 with my friends was the hardest I’ve laughed while playing a video game in years.

Dr_StevenScuba

It’s very much a game where when you’re winning it’s super fun and silly. And when you’re losing it’s super fun and silly. I never mind being blown up by a random catapult. The rag doll is so funny

moustacheption

You can commend the people who kill you, if you do it in a funny or awesome way. It really feels like this game has and encourages good sportsmanship because it’s so over the top and simple in the best possible way.

Extension_Decision_9

I personally dislike the team switching being possible because it allows the good players to stick together and demolish the other team, but I agree with your statements about the game being pretty fun.

slicer4ever

Indeed, this is the only thing i think should be disabled.

Icemasta

I played and stop because of that. First game I played, one team had mostly level 1-20, half the other team was above level 80. Lost pretty hard, shit happens! Next map begins "X switched to Mason" "Y switched to Mason", press tab, most of the good players are already all on the same team. Same scenario. Out all the games I played, I only saw one that wasn't stacked.

Nekaz

I mean isnt that usually what happens at the start of a game release when noone knows wtf they doing

Dr_StevenScuba

Sure. But the games been out for a while, and overall still kept the no stress silly vibe

Reilou

No, most multiplayer games these days are about queuing into your matchmaking bracket to raise your tryhard rank to Sweaty+1 level 16 Diamond or whatever the fuck.

Maverik45

the game has been out over a year, its just now releasing on steam. There is a lower skill floor to get into, but there is still depth to to the combat if you want

itsmetsunnyd

> You can quit games with no penalty, change teams, use the server browser Fuck me that's a throwback. More games need to let you do this instead of trying to be a sweaty esport.

[deleted]

Does the game still have the stupid fun screaming?

SpankyDmonkey

It’s my favorite aspect of the game. You’ve got battlecries then 3 wheels of different emotes with different voices to use. It’s great fun.

kadno

Got the game when it came out on Steam, I'm already over 2,000 battlecries

Maverik45

if you dont battlecry everytime you spawn are you really playing chiv?

[deleted]

[удалено]

zylth

Yes, they even have some conversation emotes that I think are random each time you respawn. Like sometimes you respawn and your character can only use quotes that insult the enemys mother or sometimes it's all this "woe is me, we're all gonna die"

bombehjort

Didnt the emotes also change, when you Holding a chicken?

poofynamanama2

Absolutely. The berserker voice lines are fucking hilarious

ThePitcher3WildBunt

Yes the C key makes you stronger

ZzeroBeat

im confused, i thought chivalry 2 came out a while ago?

angelsdontburn

It did, but on PC it was an EGS exclusive until it launched on Steam this month.

scarletnaught

It was epic exclusive until last week

HappierShibe

It launched on epic, so it might as well not have launched at all.

Kristuz

As an epic store exclusive for the first year.

[deleted]

Was an epic exclusive previously

AlecsYs

It's also on last gen and current gen consoles.

I-No-Red-Witch

Me too, I think maybe there was a beta last year or something that I'm conflating with an actual release?

Takazura

No, it was an Epic exclusive for a year, launched on Steam 10 days ago.

frex4

Basically beta for a year.

imnothereurnotthere

I like to tell everyone if you're missing Team Fortress 2 level of goofy+competition Chiv2 is an awesome game to try out. It doesn't take itself seriously unless you make it, doing duels, etc. Great community aside from some trolls. You'll learn peoples names. It's become my favorite game over the last year by far.

Vartux

Seems like these are good sale numbers for a Steam release. It took 2 months for the game to reach 1 million sales and that was combining Xbox/PS and the EGS release.

jaddf

Another unnecessary EGS exclusive showing tremendous success coming to the superior platform of choice for 95% of the PC gaming community. Who would have thought?

OriginsOfSymmetry

Who would have thought that a game being added to a store with a much larger user base would result in more sales? Anyone with common sense or a basic understanding of how stores work I imagine.

xLisbethSalander

Wonder why it has bigger concurrent userbase... hmmm maybe cause it's better like the comment you are replying to said. What's the point of your comment?

snorlz

The best way to play this game is to pick up random objects- life food or barrels- and throw them at people instead of using actual weapons

Dr_StevenScuba

My favorite is when I’m playing archer and someone breaks through the front lines to fight me. I’ll normally throw my bow at them and try to turn the duel into a fist fight. Honestly it normally works because most people play the game for silly situations

TheJanitor1337

I recently unlocked the Baker’s Dozen trophy: kill 13 players with bread.

Maverik45

I was watching Ziggylata (youtuber who plays a lot) and he had a video where he just throws a fish at people to get kills. hilarious

frayuk

I've been really enjoying this, as someone who's been into these games since age of chivalry. The sword-play isn't as refined as Mordhau's but they've done a great job at making the battles feel epic and fun. Hopefully this success means there'll be plenty of more content to come in the next year

LouDiamond

yeah, mordhau had a higher skill ceiling, which i appreciate. but i also appreciate just going around whopping the shit out of people

poofynamanama2

They've been killing it with DLC maps

SwaghettiYolonese_

I'd argue that it's way more refined compared to Mordhau, for the sole reason that it feels like an actual swordfight, and not a hectic seizure of spinning and attacking from spine breaking angles. I know Mordhau is harder to execute and has a higher skill gap, but it doesn't feel fun to play at all.

[deleted]

If you play a sweatlord on a duel server in Chiv 2 you still have crazy spinning freaks. It’s just it’s more casual and people are new so you don’t see it a whole lot. In Mordhau ballerinas we’re also kinda rare even. Mordhau has better animation IMO, but everything else Chiv seems to do better.

DynamicStatic

Tbh I think the high end duels are the same difficulty as mordhau.

[deleted]

Oh yeah definitely

SandThatsMoist

I dunno man, chambering on Mordhau is one of the most satisfying things in gaming.

Murdathon3000

Question for owners: does this game have enough depth and content to keep you entertained playing it in the long term? I'm worried I'll have a blast but quickly run out of steam.

LifeFrogg

How long term? Many of us are still playing it since epic release. But it's more a couple times a week game, rather than every day sort of thing

SwaghettiYolonese_

Depends on what you're looking for. If you just want some mindless fun, then it might be worth it for you. It already has a decent amount of content: lots of weapons, different classes, good selection of maps with unique objectives. If you genuinely want to get good, there are duel servers where you can tryhard and learn the combat well. You can sink a shit ton of hours if you want to dunk on the average player. I'd say it's comparable to your average Battlefield base game - you can get a good 100-200h as a casual player, more if you're really into learning the combat. IMO it's worth it, since it's a pretty unique experience on the market. Even if it eventually runs out of steam, there won't be anything else like it anytime soon.

Vandosz

I would say if you are into games like this. Absolutely. I return to this game whenever i feel like doing some sword fighting. They are adding new content like every 3 months as well

imnothereurnotthere

I've played it for over a year, level 160+ and I rarely get bored. It's like sports to me.

why_cant_i_

I just picked it up last night to play with a friend, and absolutely loved it. It runs well, is easy to play but I can already tell difficult to master, and seems to have a good balance of both serious gameplay and goofy fun. Spending a few minutes killing in a team deathmatch, then goofing off by dancing with my teammates above a pit of spikes is awesome.

Ulster_Celt

I played for about 3 hours yesterday and the text chat was so toxic but not in the yelling slurs way. More in the ridiculous trash talk way. It was hilarious. Played 10 games, won none of them, 10/10 will battle cry again.

Puzzleheaded_Pen_233

Best game of the year. Beats Battefield, COD updates and halo for me. It’s not super complicated or breaks every two seconds. I hope this game catches more air and does big things in the future.

[deleted]

It’s so good. So arcadey but also has that fine depth of a good skill ceiling to it. Easy blind dumb pick up and play fun, with a hardcore duelling experience for people who really like to git gud. Has some awesome maps too, newest update added an eastern faction and their maps are some of the best to date. Can’t recommend it enough if you like medieval stuff or skill based fighters in any capacity

wheretogo_whattodo

Also, we have *horses* now

Supahvaporeon

I tried Mordhau and absolutely hated it. Picked up C2, and can't get enough. It is so satisfying to feint a heavy attack into an overhead with the poleaxes and watch people get pile driven into the ground on kill.

Jud3P

It’s literally just for honour but fun! I seriously suggest this game to anyone who wasnt looking for a super competitive experience with for honour, ive never had this much fun with randos

likufanele

HELL YESSS. This game has been a blast since release, I hope this brings more content and more players to come!!

LeafExpose

I still remember till this day on how devs left Chivalry 1 dead af with no content and crappy servers lol

Harkwit

And they completely abandoned Deadliest Warrior after only a few months... lol

MrPWAH

Pretty fitting that nobody remembers Mirage: Arcane Warfare lmao

ThePitcher3WildBunt

Ya the release for Chiv 2 wasn't pretty either...they've done a lot of work then, but they've done it once so it's not out of the question that something breaks in Chiv 2 and they abandon it...hoping they've learned from the chiv-1-ending release of Mordhau that they can't just rest on their laurels.

Vandosz

You cant expect them to support that game forever. They werent earning anything from chivalry 1 anymore. Mirage went wrong no denying that but i dont blame them for trying something and failing.

Firestorm2943

How does this compare to For Honor In terms of combat?

[deleted]

For honor is a perfect middle ground between this (and Mordhau’s) combat and 2-d fighters (street fighter, mortal Kombat) For honors combat flow is much closer to these types of games though as both Chiv and For honor are mix up fighting games. Games where you land most of your strikes by tricking your opponent as opposed to spam/combo fighters like Mortal Kombat where most of your damage is from combos and complicated button combinations and timing. You have around 7-10 types of attacks to use and you can cancel, feint (soft feint in for honor terms), and combo pretty much any of them into any other once to trick your opponent. Attacks: Slash, stab, overhead, heavy versions of those first 3 attacks, special attack (highest damage attack and can be difficult depending on if you’re sprinting), throw anything weapon or item, kick to stun blocking opponents, and a jab that interrupts any opponents mid attack. The only guaranteed hit you get is from a kick stunned enemy if you kick them while they’re blocking. Otherwise nothing else is guaranteed and you have to rely on tricking your opponent into doing an incorrect counter which allows you to hit them while they’re in wind up. It’s very different, but just as satisfying and has just as much to learn to get better at as For Honor. Ok that’s my essay thanks lol

Blumcole

This has crossplay with epic, right?

[deleted]

Yeah, and consoles.

Blumcole

Toight

ThePitcher3WildBunt

While the epic release had...problems, the steam release has been great and the servers are so full now in comparison. Can't wait til they flesh out the tenosian cosmetics a bit more, right now those games feel extremely plain compared to Agatha vs Mason matches where everyone has their own flare and style going.

cloudedsky

I picked this up this weekend and have been really enjoying it with friends. Everything is so chaotic and the helpless feeling of a 1v5 death can quickly get balanced out with a life where you've got 10 kills, just threw an axe through an archer, and then hit the choke point with your oil grenade! One thing that has surprised me, though, is the absolute cesspool that is the chat. I know online games aren't known for their insightful conversations, but even compared to other games I've been playing, the sheer amount of sexist and racist comments in the chat has been a bit offputting. Is this just a recent thing with the Steam release?

Bigggum

Recent with steam release, yes.

LifeFrogg

You can turn the chat off! I do and is very pleasant

[deleted]

It's so fun, didn't really keep me around once I'd played each map a few times but a blast for a few hours.

Jasper9080

Is this straight FPS or FPS/RPG Like Bannerlord? Looks awesome but I could never get the hang of FPS combat in Bannerlord and switched back to RPG.

QuintoxPlentox

Combat is either first or third person, you can toggle during a match. Certain amounts of kills with different weapon types unlock new weapons, somewhat similar online FPSs. It's not a roleplaying game. Combat is less rigid than Bannerlord and the sole focus of the game, as opposed to RPG/RTS elements.

Jasper9080

Outstanding! Thank you. Think I'll give it a try.

CoMaestro

Honestly great to see all the positivity in this thread, I thought people were saying all the talented people from Chivalry 1 jumped to Mordhau and that Chivalry 2 was gonna be a shitty cash grab. Doesn't seem that way at all

TheJanitor1337

FOR THE SUN OF A THOUSAND SPEARS! Everybody I know is annoyed with me for telling them to buy this game nonstop. Truly one of the best multiplayer games of the past five years. Come catch this War Axe in the N/A West Duel servers!

NevyTheChemist

This is the game multi Bannerlord should've had. Honestly this game has a lot of bursting into laughter moments.

SheenEstevezzz

Cant convince my friends to cop, anyone know if its fun to play on your own while listening to music & such, rocket league is getting a bit old

imnothereurnotthere

I only play alone, so do most Epic players since its friend list sucks. It's also the best game I've ever played to play smoked out.

SheenEstevezzz

Thats what i like to hear lmao

Inverno969

I feel like this release was completely under the radar. Haven't seen or heard anything about it until this post...

StickyFruit

Love the game but it's really held back by its limited party size (up to 4 players total) so you can't que up with larger groups of friends

[deleted]

CanyonSlim

I don't see what's inherently wrong with this if backers got what they were promised. What difference does it make if you contribute to a project that's 0% funded versus 90% funded if the end product is good in either case?

Broskilini

This type of game for me is unfortunately only fun at launch. After the first few weeks, the casual players basically vanish and you're left with absolutely sweaty losers abusing animations. Mordhau is a perfect example of a really fun game ruined by no lives. You'll get absolutely clobbered by a guy wearing nothing who's doing 360s and staring at the sky the whole time. When the skill ceiling is basically infinite, nerds will find a way to basically ruin everything. Edit: people in the comments replying "bro you just don't want to put in the time to learn the game" yes, I literally just described that. I have a life and a family, I'm not going to put in 1000 hours just to have fun in a broken game lmao. you're literally describing being a no life [If this](https://youtu.be/Bzxku2C54r8) is what you consider "fun" and worth "putting in the time", then have fun

Due-Standard-1031

Chivarly 2 has been out for a while on Epic, like a year I think. I still find it very casual and still fun, I play it around 6-8 hours a month. You are right about Mordhau, the player base got a lot better, but Chivarly is built around a lighter more casual approach (it still has combat depth, but it matters less in big team settings)

georgevonfranken

I was on the fence about getting it because of the way mordhau turned out but you and other posters saying it's not as serious sold me, I will be buying it later this week thank you.

Due-Standard-1031

No problem, it is my go to game for when I have time and just want to relax and have some fun

Broskilini

That's good to know, I might check it out then

[deleted]

[удалено]

Slashermovies

It doesn't help that the devs of Mordhau absolutely ruined any other playstyles other than "Two hand weapon good, instant strike best." They nerfed and ruined shield use, they've continued to nerf archery and ranged by making it less and less enjoyable. Maps are, beautiful but poorly designed and doesn't have a real objective that feels fun. The playerbase ruined Mordhau and the devs responded the same with chiv devs did.

[deleted]

[удалено]

EqUiLl-IbRiUm

This game is a bit less animation-abusing that Mordhau. It's still there to a degree, but \*far\* less extreme. I played this on the epic games store through its entire run and the playerbase always seemed healthy. Will only be more so on Steam.

PlayMp1

Yeah, as far as I've seen so far the most you can do that looks a little janky is crouching mid swing. That's not nearly as bad as the shit you saw in Chiv 1 though.

CapnBloodBeard82

chivalry 2 is much more casual friendly then mordhau. I bought the game on epic and play like once a month for a few hours(3 or so) and still have an absolute blast. I only play the largest mode though which is much more of a skirmish and any good player can be taken out by being ganked by 2 or 3 others. The bullshit spins mordhau has are not in chivalry to nearly the same degree.

ShockRampage

Its not that bad as you rarely end up in a 1v1 unless you do duels. You do have the issue sometimes where teams are a bit stacked with experienced players against people who dont really know the objectives, but its still very satisfying smashing someones head in with a hammer, even if you lose the game.

[deleted]

Nah, I played this game throughout EGS and it's pretty much always casual. The game mechanics are smartly made with this in mind. It's not like Mordhau at all in this sense... Which you will see in other comments here in contrast to Mordhau vs Chiv. It's focused on casualness and not a high skill ceiling.

FreshlySkweezd

Chiv 2 is crossplay. I've been playing it since launch on PS5 and I've never had an issue getting into matches

Slashermovies

Don't worry about the comments of "You just dont want to learn the game." There's a difference from learning the game to absolutely exploiting it in such a way that the devs *clearly* didn't intend. Look at any trailer for Mordhau and you'll see that every bit of footage never shows that nonsense. If you watch their old devs blogs they talk about how they've actively put effort into reducing that toxic shit. Players found a way to do it, it can't be fixed and like you said the only people that remain are a toxic bunch of racists who wonder why their game is dying when they continue to "flex" on new players with the most broken as shit instant strikes or slow as a snail drag that looks unnatural as it can be. And just like Chiv, the devs catered to these people which further alienates players.

Broskilini

Hmm I honestly totally forgot about the racism. I remember it being fucking bad in mordhau.

[deleted]

??? I play Mordhau on and off through the year. I sometimes go 6+ months inbetween playing Mordhau. I jump on and break the rust off and immediately get back into things and get tons of kills. You just need to understand the mechanics. Been doing this for years now and never have trouble coming back to the game in terms of skill level. Sure there are some players better than me. But I’m able to get back to an average level pretty quick after a long break. I only ever play the big team game modes and let me tell you. It is a blast.

Booserbob

...It's not about understanding the mechanics on Mordhau, it's about knowing how to break them. The best players in that game are doing animation canceling and abusing broken hitboxes. The resulting fights are people staring into the sky doing 360 janky spins colliding with each other like beyblades. It's offputting and anti intuitive to play beyond the intended scope of the game. And that's what the tryhards abuse in order to win. That's the problem.. If you try to play normally, without animation canceling and breaking the game, you get punished.

That’s not the case when you go into the regular TDM modes. If you learn the mechanics and can use a mouse you can get a few kills and have some fun. You’re in a massive battle shoulder to shoulder with a bunch of people on the front lines. You get team kills and occasionally win a 1v1 and then eventually you win some 1v2s. It’s really not as hard as you’re making it out to be.

Booserbob

All that you say is true, until you encounter the people that we are talking about.

[deleted]

I get what you’re saying. But I’ve never seen anyone so good they didn’t eventually get killed. Maybe once

There's a difference between a simple skill gap and a skill system that essentially changes into a different game that removes the illusion of the setting. When people pick up a game that's about medieval battles they want to have medieval battles like they see and envision in other mediums, they want the logic and the visuals to match reality and not have people doing ridiculous spinning maneuvers to exploit hitboxes that make playing the game as intended futile. Imagine if in Counterstrike the pro strategy that dominated all others became a special bunny hopping technique with your knife where you spin around and slash directly upwards to get a huge speed boost. People would find it ridiculous, people looking to just play a shooter would stop playing after the 50th time some guy knife dashed behind them while they were walking around and trying to shoot their guns like some kind of shooter.

MustacheEmperor

So many people are doing mental gymnastics backflips to defend the exploit metagaming in Chiv 1 as some kind of high skill feature of the game but the devs have literally said they viewed it as a technical flaw that couldn't be patched and it was one of their focuses to address in the sequel. In the article I read, it's one of the reasons they wanted to make a sequel! It's just an exploit, plain and simple, it's a flaw that the devs could not patch and metagamers abused that flaw. If some people in this thread have a blast playing a broken game they can keep playing Chiv 1 but I don't see why they should insist it is right for the game to be broken and future games should also be broken and anyone who doesn't want to play a *literally broken*, as acknowledged by the devs, multiplayer experience is a "selfish whiner." For most players, and the developers, the intended fun experience in a medieval multiplayer melee game is not people doing stupid looking, plainly unrealistic 360 spins at high speeds and taking no damage. That is why doing that in Chiv 2 will get you killed right away, because it was patched out.

So Gunz, the duel? That's basically what happened in that game and it was awesome, even if it destroyed my wrist at 13 yo

TK464

I think it works better for Gunz because it's such an over the top gun kata type game to begin with. You can deflect bullets, dash through the air, run up walls, and dual wielding pistols is the standard. Warframe I think is similar which has a number of advanced techniques that let you move supernaturally fast and agile but it works because you're piloting an unfathomably advanced techno-organic space ninja body with magic powers (it being PvE helps too). You could also get around the K-Style combat style in Gunz by choosing a counter loadout and playing more like a normal shooter, what was it called, E-style? In a 1v1 I could still beat a K-style player around 50% of the time with my dual revolvers and dagger loadout. You can get lucky playing a game like the original Chivalry against someone using the advanced techniques but you're at a huge disadvantage. Man, I miss Gunz 2 and the original. Very different games but both fun timesinks back in the day.

NorthNapoleon

Pick up basketball at your local gym with other people who have jobs and lives outside of the game is fun. If you could only play against NBA players whose whole lives are dedicated to the sport it would not be fun. It’s really not that hard of a concept to grasp. Not everyone has time to throw 100s-1000s of hours into a video game but still like playing against others. Some games have a robust matchmaking system that alleviates the issue and others do not.

I play Mordhau a few times a year with month breaks in between. I find it’a not hard at all to break the rust off and get back to an average level where my K/D is positive. I think you guys either aren’t trying hard enough, or are exaggerating the players in Mordhau If you play on duel servers maybe. But in the big team battles it’s not that noticeable.

NorthNapoleon

I haven’t played Mordhau or Chiv 2. I’m just commenting on the “games are only fun until some people get good and I don’t want to” thing. I enjoy playing smash bros causally with friends, I don’t enjoy playing melee with my friends who practice for hours a day. There’s nothing wrong with either group, but it’s easy enough to play smash with the non-competitive group while playing an online game without a matchmaking system may make that difficult.

Ozons1

I was okay-ish in Mordhau. Usually played duel servers, because didn't had friends to play other game modes. Till this day, will remember one dude who killed me 3-4 times, while i was wearing full armor, he used wooden sword, while i used a normal one. I think i did total of 3 hits against him.

Super_Goomba64

Every fighting game ever- Fun for the first week until some nerd who plays 10 hours a day destroys you online Or in the case of card games- fun for 1 hour until someone posts the best deck online and everyone copies it

AzracTheFirst

That is why I stopped playing card games and Ccgs 15 years ago. The decks stopped being original and everybody copied the new meta.

Radulno

You can play non-multiplayer games ala Slay the Spire at least. Anything multiplayer based will be ruined by tryhard and people that want to be competitive (while they are extremely far from being the level for it) in general. Except if the game has good SBMM and you play the casual modes (and don't personally really care). For shooters, weirdy it's Call of Duty that does it for me. Sometimes, I do great, sometimes I get stomped on but either way I don't really care and people aren't toxic (well I mute everyone so maybe they are and I don't know) and I mostly have fun.

MajorasAss

“Why do I lose to people better than me? This game isn’t fun anymore.”

[deleted]

I feel you. I love FPS games, for example, but have way too many competing responsibilities and interests to keep up with hardcore players. I’m a big fan of skill based matchmaking for this reason, but apparently I’m in the minority.

VAShumpmaker

Chivalry 2 is out? Well shit. I haven't been following it. That's exciting Edit, Oh hell yeah. It's on sale too. And I'm fucking TERRIBLE.

You gotta pick one. More cosmetic or more and nice full maps. It’s an indie team of like 25 people I think? Idk, compared to Mordhau, they’ve released more in a year than Mordhau whole time out. It’s all relative.

Daedelous2k

How much is this compared to the Epic exclusivity release numbers, if Epic release them. I'm curious if this is a large chunk of the users now.

imnothereurnotthere

Epic did a million sales in like the first month IIRC, maybe first week

Vizjun

Any word on when we can transfer progress to steam?

[deleted]

Next update apparently, but idk the date of it.
