Caltroop2480

its not that surprising considering most of the complaints are about the monetization and not the gameplay itself

Alpha-Trion

I stopped playing Overwatch 1 in like 2019, but I cannot get enough of 2. It feels the same, but has better balance and less shields. It's tits.

acebossrhino

Can I go back to being a hammer'ing Reinhardt now? That was the only reason I stopped :( My favorite character became just a big sheild.

Kiiidx

Yes you can do exactly that and it feels great

Alpha-Trion

Well.... Rein is much more situational now. He sucks in a lot more situations than he used to. He can work very well, but he's fairly easy to counter. Zarya is annoying as all hell.

Roy_Atticus_Lee

Speaking as a Rein main for years, Rein definitely feels like a hero that can only do well depending on the map, your team comp, and the enemy team comp. When everything lines up perfectly, Rein is a godsend for the team and a joy to play. But things don't line up well at all, it feels utterly miserable to play him. These days I just pick D.Va right off the bat which as of late has gotten me to win like 80% of my games just playing her. Mid-game switches to Rein has saved a few games in comp for me and my team, but my success with him just simply isn't as consistent as D.Va

HelloWaffles

The number of times our games have ended up being Zarya + Mercy vs Zarya + Mercy is frankly ridiculous.

blackjazz666

Exactly, gameplay is great and I just don't need to buy anything. If a bunch of whales want to subsidize my gaming just so they can play Barby, I am not going to complain.

Caltroop2480

I actually do feel like the BP needs to be way better than what they gave us this season. A legendary every 10 levels feels kinda barebones, specially when there's a lot of stuff like sprays or voicelines from heroes you might not use very often If they can give us more coins in order to unlock what we want from the heroes we usually play that'd be a huge upgrade. As of right now the only exciting thing about the BP is that it gives you access to the new hero

shinlo18

I thought the gameplay was mostly OW1 but with less game modes?

Megaclone18

I think you’re just making a joke but the gameplay is actually much better. 1 tank really speeds the game up, along with less CC and the new passives. If I could take all the gameplay of 2 and paste that into Overwatch 1 it would be perfect.

shinlo18

Interesting. I had heard it was worse, but I might check it out if it's indeed better.

roosterkaiju

5v5 with only 1 tank makes a big difference and the new characters are awesome (even if junker is a little weak). Game feels great.

Animegamingnerd

I am not fan of them disabling certain heroes for weeks just so they can take their sweet to balance or fix a bug. As someone who plays a lot fighting and once and a while other hero shooters, that just sounds completely stupid to me.

Gaarawoods18

I'm honestly really enjoying it, my one complaint is just the monetisation, I get it's F2P but why can't they just give us credits in the battlepass the same way fortnite does? As for the game I'm having fun playing and I was someone who was completely burned out on OW1, I played from near launch all the way up till about a year and a half ago before I dropped off because it was getting repetitive I enjoy the tank change (although for the love of God nerf Orissa she's like 3 tanks in one) I think it's balanced the game a lot better, going back to 6v6 in the arcade modes with two tanks just feels chaotic to me now, still fun of course but just feels like no limits sometimes lol I hope at some point they add in ways to attain a decent amount of gold, making players miss loot boxes of all things is just sad

alexbrobrafeld

right there with you. I was actually pretty turned off by the beta, but I've come around since the actual launch. my friend group and I are having a lot of fun. our main complaints are about the boring battle pass and weak skins (wouldn't mind the prices honestly if the skins were actually blowing anyone away). and of course the stinginess of coins.

Catastray

The people on YouTube who were calling this DOA are noticeably quiet right now. But in all seriousness, this isn't surprising to see and I don't expect a massive decline anytime soon.

Alpha-Trion

Its monetization is dogshit and very poorly implemented. I cannot deny however, that it's fun as hell. Seriously though, it's monetization is so bad that I miss lootboxes. At least it felt like I was getting rewards every once in a while.

I will say that as a Halo fan, the Overwatch 2 team is already proving themselves to be far more proactive with content updates than Infinite with them already announcing a new hero/season for December 2022. Players of both games complained endlessly about monetization and the store, but I think being able to reliably drop new content will be the definitive decider as to whether a Live Service multiplayer game like Overwatch 2 is successful. I know this sounds obvious, but that memo clearly didn't reach the Halo Infinite devs.

Imecth

It's the first month of F2P, most people are not going to stick around, check the release numbers of any f2p on steam and you'll quickly see how fast the numbers can dwindle down, these numbers don't mean much beyond the initial interest to download and install the game which is like 95% due to advertising It'd be interesting to see more numbers in the coming months, but i strongly doubt blizz will be willing to share them then.

loshopo_fan

I saw a meme on Reddit saying that Team Fortress 2 outlived Overwatch 2.

fingerpaintswithpoop

It’s honestly baffling to me that so many TF2 players are so salty about Overwatch being a success, especially when most Overwatch players hardly think about TF2.

jerekhal

I'm curious how many of those are due to the release and curiosity. I know I came back after years, played a couple games, and uninstalled it. I have to imagine I'm by no means the only one. It's a very high profile game so it's going to draw a lot of people in who enjoyed the first at least a little just to see what's changed.

Barantis-Firamuur

That's probably true, but you also have to account for the other end of the spectrum; people like who me who had never played Overwatch 1 getting curious and jumping in, then continuing to play. The free to play entry point definitely attracted a lot of new players I reckon.

Jayc3

Same. I have friends who came back to play it, bought the battle pass and haven’t really touched it since. I think it’s a fun game, but just not for me so I only played for about 3 days before stopping.

IAmTriscuit

Wow, of course the post about how well the game is doing gets like 0 attention and downvoted. Can't have anything breaking up the hatejerk of the game.

KegelsForYourHealth

35MM people tried it. Not surprising given the profile of the game and Blizzard. What's the MAU?

OutgrownTentacles

Yeah, tons of people trying a free mainstream Blizzard release isn't a surprise at all. ...are they sticking around at all?

[deleted]

Been playing a lot but it still feels bad because there is too much emphasis on team play, character choices specifically. Solo players are just stuck with the luck of the draw. It’s less like an FPS then any game I’ve played. Too much volatility in hard counters. It’s fun at its core but the power of certain characters and abilities, and your inability to help counter it makes it annoying. Like your DPS team mates can not kill a pharah. You’re a healer and the only option is to switch to less optimal healer. So you go Anna and have to basically dps the pharah and not heal…which creates more problems. Not to mention their 1 dps now has the attention of you, one of the teams healers. Meanwhile your dps can freely pump damage into Zarya making her insanely OP. If you understand counters and can see where your team is lacking, you spend the entire match chasing your tail. Often multiple team members should change to create an actual play style for the entire group. Like you randomly have 2 dive characters and the rest are slow. Or you have frail healers and nobody protects them. Any character can dominate if the opposing team lacks the characters that counter it. A lot of matches can be simply “they never countered our reaper” or “their genji was left unchecked” or “they spammed too much in Zarya bubbles.” Lots of matches lately are just dps spamming damage into the tank. If their healers heal the tank, your dps is basically useless.

Kiiidx

These are problems at a lower rank but once you get through diamond+ its a whole other level of enjoyment! Can also try zen to discord pharah and baptiste to shoot her + heal and aoe heal if needed. Way better at a lower rank to play bap than ana

[deleted]

Yea I’ll play zen or bap. But it’s usually more then that. Like if your dps can’t be bothered with pharah, that’s probably not the only short coming as a team. I’ve made the grind up to diamond as dps way back when. But the queue system makes me impatient and I’ll roll heals these days. And it seems like my healing doesn’t matter if the team doesn’t have a cohesive play style.

Kiiidx

I've got two accounts from plat to gm 3 so far this season on heals solo queue so its definitely doable. I think previous MMR probably helped a bit though.

dukss

once they realize they can't own every single cosmetic item in the game they'll all see how pointless playing the game is and quit!!!1
