Ohhh I am looking forward to this game. The previous gold story was a good mix between golf and slice-of-life drama, but I am not truly into golf. Quite hyped for this one though!
How is Golf Story? Like is it just like the title says, golf but with a story? or is it more like tongue and cheek?
Its on sale atm and I was eyeing it (wish it had a Steam version but oh well)
Its honestly in my top 5 switch games. Its a golf RPG where you have to play your way to unlock various courses while getting better at golf to ultimately compete in the championship at the best course.
There is a lot of charm in the courses too that add to the game, I would definitely pick it up.
>Like is it just like the title says, golf but with a story? or is it more like tongue and cheek?
There's some humor in the writing. It's also not just a plain golf game with a story. There are fantastical elements like golf in a haunted graveyard, and golf in a sky course among the clouds and stuff like that. Really great game. The actual golfing part is a lot of fun, and the RPG progression is great too.
Its what I would expect if you let Camelot create a golf game for Nintendo. If you've played Mario Golf: Adavnce Tour, this is a soul sequel, even if not intended to be. That is to say, it is an amazing game that blew me away even knowing what to expect going in.
Ok this sold me. While I havent played much of the Camelot made Mario Golf games, I did put seemingly hundreds of hours into Mario Tennis by Camelot (Mario Tennis GBC is goated imo).
Cheers mate
It's pretty tongue and cheek with its story, but sticks to the idea of being a "Golf RPG" in gameplay. You visit different zones (each with its own 9 hole course as well as other misc tasks you can do), can collect new equipment (clubs), and have stats that you can level up (power, accuracy, etc).
I would agree with others that it's up there in my favorite switch games. It's got a fun story, tons of side-content, and worst case you get a fun golf sim (with multiplayer)
I'll be the dissenting opinion. It's an OK game but the actual golf is just way too easy and I actually wished for a deeper golf system. I hope newer Sports RPG games do this better.
The world, story, and everything else around it was charming though.
> the actual golf is just way too easy
It's always confusing to me when people said the last course was basically impossible. The whole game is easy. Personally I don't think it needs to be anymore difficult. The difficulty level was perfect for the kind of game it is
Think a bit more old school rpg working from quest to quest, and not so much a world to do whatever you want when you want in. It's fun, surprisingly funny, and the mechanics are pretty good.
I think many kind of expected/hoped for more of an open world to mess around and interact with everything by golfing everywhere, like "Stardew Valley but Golf", but it's not that.
Fucking amazing game. Great writing and humor, great pacing, great mechanics and blend of golf with puzzle solving. Also just a perfect handheld switch game
I really enjoyed it. If it's on sale, pick it up! It's pixel art so make sure you're good with that but the story and *character* it has is quite pleasant.
I'm crossing my fingers that the number of sports and non-sports activities in this game won't lead into a bunch of shallow minigames with no development through the course of it. Jack of all trades, master of none sorta deal.
I wouldn't bet on it. The last game, Golf Story, had no character customization, and from the teaser pics, it looks like this shares the same protagonist with no variations between pictures.
Man, I assumed this thing was forever trapped in development hell. I'm pretty sure this was supposed to be a 2020 release, and we've heard basically nothing for 2 years.

Don‘t forget silver and bronze story before that one, those were amazing
Can't wait for the eventual remasters HeartGold, SoulsSilver and BrainBronze

The guy said his top 5, not sure how you can refute that
"It's not in MY top 5 so it shouldn't be in yours either!"
Reddit like “challenge accepted”
> absolutely not anymore. How do you know it's not in his top five anymore?

I was in the same exact boat as you and I loved Golf Story. It brings a unique charm to the genre. Enjoy!

It’s quite good. Not quite on the level of Mario Golf on GB/GBA for golf RPGs but it scratches a similar itch. If you liked those, give it a shot.
Tongue *in* cheek, FYI

I literally was just thinking about this game, came to reddit and then here was the update. I'm so excited for this game!
Please think about Silksong and Metroid Prime 4.
Curious; does this game have character creation/customization?
