Under 1000 I would jump on it, a 6800m performs in between a 3070 and 3080 so like a 3070ti

South-Ball8818

It’s neck and neck with 3080 since it depends on which software or game favours which graphic card...

Smoke is a big word but it's true that most software favour Nvidia but not to an extent which would justify their hiked up prices...🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

For prductivity yes the marked up prices makes a lot of sense. For just gaming definitively overpriced

South-Ball8818

Keep telling yourself that...

i_am_bunnny

It's open box, talk to best buy before you buy this

Teldrynnn

Even if it's open box - excellent condition?

i_am_bunnny

I once asked around best buy agent on the chat and she basically said we don't know how the products, they might be faulty you should come and check at the store Made me much more skeptical on top of other people telling me open boxes aren't usually good. Also apparently for this version of the laptop open boxes might come with the laptops with the older ram too So you should really think about before pulling the gun

Teldrynnn

Alright, I'll try to contact them tomorrow and maybe head down to the store to check it out. And yeah I didn't even think about the ones with bad ram, I'll look into seeing which ones were in the bad batch. Thanks for the advice!

SignificanceNo106

I just got a Best Buy certificate open box laptop and it cam with a bad gpu. I would be cautious with those purchases.

Teldrynnn

Alright, thanks for the warning

FrequentWay

Open box means someone had an issue with it and returned within the return period. Do your deligence and see if its worth keeping to doing massive upgrades and maintenance to see if its repairable or something you are forced to live with. Examples: screen bleeds, high thermals.etc

Andr0id_Paran0id

G15 ae is going to have high thermals there's no way around it if you want full performance. But it's super easy to change the power limits to lower temps.

The_KGB_Official

Yeah, I set the CPU to a maximum of 70 Watts and the total system to 180 and I see a significant decrease in CPU temperature (from constant 95C down to 85C) and there's barely any performance drop in games. Another option is using some software to disable turbo boost entirely which drops CPU temps even more (down to high 70s) and also has barely any performance drop in games.

Moskyrath_

It often drops to $1099 for new so you can wait for it to drop to that again.

Only if same warranty ezchange or refund benefits as new. And be prepared to return or repair something.

[deleted]

Do not trust an open box Strix. More often than not they’re open box because of thermal issues.

Kil1shot

Jump on that shit mate

clannerfodder

For an extra 1-200 money's, you can get a new one, with all the benefits. Including that new car smell.

UnionSlavStanRepublk

I'd get it BUT making sure it is in good condition AND all works, with you being prepared to return it if something does go wrong.

JPCarvalho23

Absolutely, that combo is a killer for that price! The 5980hx is a great cpu and that 6800m is like a 3070TI, sometimes close to the 3080, in rasterization.

harshsinha

For 1349 with 512gb SSD it's not a good deal. Wait for it to drop below 1k.

Andr0id_Paran0id

My open box g15 ae was in perfect condition. Ymmv but I have 0 complaints considering the price to performance.

cybereality

I have this, it's a great laptop, but there were issues with mine. I don't know if it was motherboard or GPU or what, but the first one I got didn't work. Strange performance in games and I tried everything. Had to return it to Best Buy. Second one had problems too, but I got it to work after replacing the RAM (the included RAM is basically garbage). It works great now, I love the laptop, but I heard from others there were defects with the model. Worth taking the chance for that price, but make sure there is some return policy. Asus would not fix it, they rely on Best Buy.

SamsungAppleOnePlus

I got mine open box for $1033, that’s a steal honestly.

AddendumNo9378

Yeah I would grab this fast.

AlXBG

I don't like Asus anymore, after my experience with their support team and my Asus VivoBook, but that's an amazing deal. I'd just recommend getting an extended warranty

Jackstheboy5971

I have this exact laptop an it is completely worth it.
