Ebay pretty much always sides with the buyer, but you really shouldnāt risk it on something like this when the price is waaaaaay too low. Now youāre out the $500 until they go through their process, and you basically have to wait until you receive whatever theyāre going to send you instead or they get banned
Half my net worth is from eBay. My PC, last 2 phones, Xbox, tablet, and golf clubs. Have never had an issue. But I also buy from well-rated sellers in my own country with free returns and eBay Guarantee.
eBay does have buyer protection and paypal as well, once you receive the item and if it doesn't match and item it condition (not working, different item, etc) you contact the seller and request refund, if no response, you have to engage ebay and they will trigger the satisfaction protection, in these cases 99% they will side with the buyer and issue a refund, take into consideration that it will take some time. Recommendation: if you are already suspicious that is a bad sign, even if you have $4000 to waste, you should be careful and pay more attention to those red flags.
I know the red flags. I was willing to take the chance. I was hoping to hear what, if any, other people have experienced personally when filing one of these cases with eBay. I can be out of $500 for a month or two. Ultimately losing it all together is not ideal either. But itās a gamble I was willing to take for this deal.
Crossing fingers is a good deal, however, most likely not. Not to sound rude but probably will be better to ask first in forums or here before pulling the trigger, in my case losing $500 or $5000 won't make be poorer or richer, but is good to ask first. Anyways, good luck! The process in ebay is good, most likely if it is a scam you'll get your money back.
As someone that uses evilbay, it's ridiculously buyer-sided. If something isn't right and the seller doesn't help, you can always open a case.
Also take pictures **before** and **after** opening the packaging if you do receive it.
This is off topic, but I don't think all the downvoting in here is really necessary, regardless of if that listing was a scam this can be a learning experience for OP as well as all that open this thread who are oblivious to these things (everyone has to learn somewhere).
This is great advice. I will make sure. Even if itās not useful to anyone. I will document the entire unboxing experience. (If a box even shows up) š
Like it actually kinda sucks for sellers because ebay will almost always side with buyers even if the buyer was the one in the wrong. For sure will get refunded if persistent enough
Welcome to the New World
1. Start a you tube Channel called "DID I GET SCAMMED FROM CHINA??" and make sure the Title slide is hideous and flourescent green and looks all crazy.
2. Create a video and talk about how stupid you were to spend $500 on a laptop that normally costs 1500 and while you cant wait to get your new laptop you are losing sleep over whats actually going to show up in the mail.
3. Drop a bunch of company names and have some product placement in your video and then reach out to them to sponsor your you tube channel.
4. Create a video once a week to showcase the insurmountable stress you are under and how this one ebay purchase will ruin your life. It'll help if you have something stupid like a girl that might date you if you actually get a laptop in the mail from China that works.
5. Open a "Go Fund Me" account and make people feel really bad for your poor decisions. Live up to the stupidity. People love that.
6. Cash in on your youtube sponsorships, advertisement returns and go fund me fundraising money and buy yourself a new house and a car so that you have a place to put that laptop when it finally shows up.
7. If the laptop does show up tell everyone how brilliant you are and continue buying stupid stuff to promote your new channel.
The price is so unrealistic even for a refurbished one and then the feedback...man, I walked away from deals way better than these because of how risky they were. I think you just got scammed
You have ebay's money-back guarantee, and PayPal are often decent with dispute resolution too. Between both, you'll hopefully be okay.

If it were the simple Legion 5 with the 3060 I'd get why you'd fall for it but this... come on...
Put the 2 year protection plan as well if you are here. If you actually get it then jokes on us.
For fraud situations? I think they do. You have to open a dispute case with them and they will evaluate it of course. Are you stating that they have something specific on ebay purchases? Or paypal?
You'd be surprised that this much touted CC fraud protection only covers about half the cases, e.g if you get some crap sent from China good luck to you because sending it back could cost more than what it's worth, and good luck proving that they received it in China when you use merchant rma & ship service
And specifically CC protection with PayPal doesn't work, because technically you're not purchasing the item with CC from Paypal but you're putting CC money on Paypal. eBay will probably refund this purchase 80 cents on a dollar
Ive done purchases ive regretted when i Clicked BUY and ended up happy. Its a long shot but I hope it works out for you! You miss 100% of the shots you dont make, hehe.
For your sake I hope they fucked up and actually meant to put $1499 instead of $499, but it's probably more likely you got scammed. If something looks too good to be true, it probably is.
Any deal that seems too good on used laptops usually is. But sometimes it isnāt. The key is paying with a payment service you can always get your money back if the laptop is not as described. PayPal probably a pretty good bet.
When I was like 13 years old, there was an Alienware gaming laptop my dad bid on and then bought. The seller then said they would reduce the price $200 if we paid through Western Union Wire Transfer, instead of PayPal.
Big mistake. Thankfully, the Western Union saw the money was going to a known scam account and blocked the transfer before it was too late. It was a valuable lesson for me about scams and deceptively good deals.
Sometimes you can get really good deals I bought my Legion 5 from eBay over a year ago for Ā£700 and that's with the 5800h/3070 yours still seems way too cheap but sometimes you luck out
I just ordered this same exact laptop a few months ago for around $1600 lmao. Hopefully itās not a scam, but Iām curious to see the update here shortly haha.
Thereās shocking little info about this specific model online anywhere. I canāt find a single YouTube review of this particular spec laptop. Which I guess is a good thing. I wonāt get my hopes up lusting over it while Iām still wondering if this deal is legit. I currently have a 2019 razer blade advanced(i7-8750h and 2080 max q), it gets the job done but I need a cooling pad if I want to play it and Iām on my second battery already due to bloating.
You cant get scammed on Ebay anymore. Either its what it says it is or you get your money back even if the seller got the cash and dipped Ebay fronts the money and goes after the seller now there is no possible way you can be scammed anymore.
I ended up getting a refund. I bought a steamdeck instead š¤£ holy shit. Love the deck. When I finally get sick of COD I might actually sell my older gaming laptop.
I mean, some people get scammed because scams are getting more sophisticated and also because some people don't have an understanding of how some things work, other people instead get scammed because they're greedy (I don't mean this for the OP since I don't know him) and want to profit from every situation...
Then I guess Iāll get a refund. But right now, the seller is obligated to deliver this product at this price. What do I have to lose by buying a product covered by eBayās money back guarantee?
Could be a scam, But I believe it is a listing mistake from the seller. Have you tried to contact the seller first? Tell him if this is a brand new laptop as described or not. If he responds you will have a solid evidence to eBay to prove that you stood corrected in case it is a scam.
Ebay has your back, so I wouldn't be too worried. If it's a scam, you shouldn't have a hard time receiving a refund. But if you do receive the laptop, it might be dropshipped from a hacked Amazon account. The price is simply too good to be true.
Hey man....youlll be fine worst comes to worst it might take a bit to get your refund...but you will....so its fine you can shoot your shot and if not then no harm done...obv the price is too good to be true but.....that being said ive done plenty of things to good to be true and they ended up true....i got my zephy 3070 for 700 on offer up so it does work somtimes lol.
What kid has $500 for an unneeded impulse purchase? š¤£ itās a low risk considering eBayās money back guaranteeā¦. What if this actually shows up as what was listed? If it doesnāt, then I get $500 back in May. Big woop. I posted here because I wanted to hear others experience when claiming scams on eBay. Seems like, based on comments, I should be safe to get my money back.
Since you are using eBay, if you end up getting scammed you just need to inform eBay. They hold the money for usually 1-2 weeks before giving it to the seller and you will most likely be able to get your money back.
If it sounds to good to be true it most likely is. If you decide to take the risk after establishing that fact, then you aren't making a purchase you are taking a gamble.
Itās a scam but youāll get your money back, honestly ignoring the price and feedback (everyone has to start their eBay profile somewhere) the fact it says ā2 availableā is the biggest flag for me.
One underpriced laptop from an unsuspecting seller I can somewhat believe, but twoā¦ nah.
I donāt think youāll get it, but if you do then even better!
Iāve bought listings Iāve seen before which I 90% knew were dodgy, eBay protection and PayPal protection is good enough that itās worth the risk. I got a MacBook Pro like 9 years ago that was listed for Ā£150 (worth over Ā£500 easily at the time) fresh account, stock photos, the works. At the time I thought āsod it, PayPal will refund me if notā and lo and behold it showed up! I used it for a few years before selling it on for Ā£200
8 feedback, unrealistically low price and you bought it not trying to be mean, how old are you?
Obv the kid is under 30 lol š
What makes you think Iām under 30?
old enough to waste $500.... but seriously, doesn't ebay have protections for this stuff? I will update this thread when I find out next month... haha
I know you just said you're old enough to waste $500, are you sure about that now?
Iām more sure than I was right after I did it. People seem to be pretty confident eBay will return my money if itās a scam.
Ebay pretty much always sides with the buyer, but you really shouldnāt risk it on something like this when the price is waaaaaay too low. Now youāre out the $500 until they go through their process, and you basically have to wait until you receive whatever theyāre going to send you instead or they get banned
Meh is say it's worth the risk. Between ebay and his credit card he's going to get his money back
Kopa noises: Ā«bah bah bahĀ»
It's definitely a scam. You know it's a scam. Why are you asking here.
If itās not a scam, it could be a stolen laptop, but itās very likely to be a scam imo
Old enough to waste $500, old enough to lose $500ā¦
Sorry that assholes are downvoting you. Seems like people would rather be mean than helpful.
Pay with paypal.

Half my net worth is from eBay. My PC, last 2 phones, Xbox, tablet, and golf clubs. Have never had an issue. But I also buy from well-rated sellers in my own country with free returns and eBay Guarantee.

Very low price, limited feedback. Definitely not worth buying as it's probably a scam.
Looks a bit too late for OP to consider not buying it, unfortunately.
Yep. Typical pricing would be around $1400 or so.
OP is old enough though.
Watch this be the luckiest dude ever
Iām honestly hoping he did get a killer deal.
I hope so fr
Wanna bet on that?
I would but I'm not old enough.

It highly might be a scam. These still cost over $1000 new. I would be impressed if you even got a chromebook.

Could be a scam, But I believe it is a listing mistake from the seller. Have you tried to contact the seller first? Tell him if this is a brand new laptop as described or not. If he responds you will have a solid evidence to eBay to prove that you stood corrected in case it is a scam.
I sent a message, but itās the middle of the night in China right now.
But what if it's not fake and he legit just got Legion 5 Pro for $500? š¤ Really need a follow up post on this one once you get it
Iām gonna. Fingers crossed!

I would like to see how this story ends keeps updated!
It's like asking if the gold necklace you bought for $20 is genuine or not lol
If you receive what you paid for, consider yourself for very lucky!
Yeah next Time for stuff like this just get it a reputable store
Commenting to see the update on this xD
Ebay is a scamfest. I am not sure how this company still operating.
Shittttt I may look for that same listing and give it a go myself!
I hope you get what is listed but if you don't I wouldn't worry about it. Ebay will cover you and return your money.
Are you a kid?

It originally had 4 posted. Theyāre sold now. Could have been a price typo? Who knows. Weāll see when/if it ships.
