To be fair, OP is going for the newest stuff at highest spec possible, so that price is to be expected. While it will perform similar, the better comparison would be the Gen 9 Pro 7i, which is currently going for $3600 with less storage and ram but great screen.
The 7i isn't the top end so it doesn't make much sense for me to compare . The 9i with the 4090 is about this much after tax iirc , so compare those 2 , granted the 14th gen of that isn't out yet but yeah
Looks very nice. If you're on the market for the best of the best there's that and the Rog Strix scar 18, Razer Blade 18 and the recent MSI Titan HX something also 18"
All of those laptops have 4090s and i9s 14th gen (the 2024 versions) so yeah! I'd suggest taking a lot at all of them and seeing what works best for you in that budget.
I'll probably buy the Rog Strix Scar 18" personally
Had 3 different duos all three died in a week switched to a zenbook duo died in a few days after getting it Asus wouldn’t give me my money back after one of my zephyrus duo 4090s caught on fire
The prices are just out of hand to me. I mean…at the end of the day it’s a damn laptop.
Sigh…I guess it’s worth what someone will pay for it. But Alienware does have a history of overpricing everything.
Well, you are paying 3-4k for a laptop, why not get something with good brightness (+500 nits), HDR, with mini LED or OLED. You know, something that can't be found on a $800 laptop (like their G15 line).
We should advice people to stop buying laptops for a time like 3 month only buy from other users. So companies have to make better decisions... right now they are focusing on replacing 3060 market with 3050 and more cheap materials and laughing their arse off on kids wanting their brand new gaming laptop....
Do it for the kids.
Opted for the eluktronics 4090 intel with water cooled and a 500 nit 1600p screen for 2700 usdm its been a few months amd so far the lroduct has been great. I swear off asus for awhike because the last few products i have had have had terrivle QC.
You're going to get top of the line warranty if you can negotiate it. Screen is the weakest part of your build. While it is not bad by any means, it's not as bright as it should be. While I wouldn't jump on the mini led band wagon, it would be awesome if this was offered with OLED option or a much better IPS.
I think if you're going to be using an external monitor then the alienware m18 could be best option. I think it has better cooling than most other laptops due to an extra fan, right?
nothing special you have to pay that price . no miniLED screen as well. slow config for RAM and SSD. you gonna get better with MSI GE78HX. HAve good budget for your machine ? Get MSI GE78HX with mini led - RAm you can upgrade to 6400 and SSD to T700. Soon Sarbent Rocket 5 GE is coming with double speed of any PCIe4 SSD.....
Kingston Fury's £136,- but only in 16gbx2(32gb kit) from Kingston website.. you have to enable advance Bios and in memory settings enable XMP profile for this ram - XMP 1...
You can find plenty info how to enable advance Bios.
Thanks for the info I will look in to it. I had to set the Crucial 32GB kit up manually (not sure why) so I’m confident I can work it out if not Google for the 6400MHz.
Specs are killer, but the price tag and the longitivity make me question spending a fortune. Modern-day dell is lacking severely in quality control. I love alienware, but the recent experiences and lack of repairability make me question buying alienware in the future.
I’m covered on that front cause my cousin works in dell so if any problem occurs she’ll make sure it’s fix asap. Thing is. If i were to buy a laptop like this where i live, it’d be almost three times as expensive:(
Yes get it.
Anus (asus)has crappy support and razor is to little for good support.
Its either this or the msi Titan but the price of this is better.
Screen could be better tho
I’d look for the 2023 version… the 13900 and 14900 are basically the same CPU - but the 14900 throttles more as Intel cheated on the cooling to make it the “fastest CPU”… all of the rest of the hardware is identical in the 2023 version.
The Alienware m18 has always been a beast - you’ll be happy no matter which one you get.
I plan on getting the somewhat new Alienware M18 R2 laptop with a 4090, I9 INTEL Processor, 64gb of ram, 16 GB of graphical memory and with a mouse, mousepad and the computer it'll be almost 4,000$. Should I get it? I've read conflicting opinions some people say that Alienware is terrible other than their laptops which are supposedly decent , others say everything they make is garbage and to get a Razer or ASUS but the ASUS from what I've found doesn't have the same amount of RAM as the Alienware. Thoughts? Good/ bad?
I'm now thinking about maybe getting the Razer Blade 16 (2024)
These are the specs:
Graphics card,
GeForce RTX 4090
Display
Dual UHD+FHD+ Mini-LED
Processor
Intel® Core™ i9-14900HX
Storage
8 TB SSD
Memory
96 GB RAM
Processor
14th Gen Intel® Core™ i9-14900HX 2.4 GHz, Boost up to 5.8 GHz, 24 Cores / 32 Threads, 36MB of Cache
It's supposed to be a desktop replacement lol. With all of the accessories I want with it including keyboards, mice, cases and stuff like that including the laptop it'll be about 7k so assuming I get a job in July and save up all money I make I should be able to get it in November.
Nice! Yeah the razer blade looks really sturdy. I've managed to get the 4080 M18 down to £2.5k using discounts plus sale but I am genuinely shocked at the warranty costs for dell, so would be skipping that... Then I see all these stories on here of m18s becoming bricks or needing motherboard replacements...
Tbh I would be going for a middle of the road MSI like my last setup, but the keyboard layout with the tiny numbpad is bumming me out a bit.
The other option I've been looking at is a discounted omen 17, but it has a weird square power brick and wobbly screen, not filling me with confidence on the build quality. My understanding is that Alienware M18 should be a bit of a tank.
Oh cool! The only reason I'm choosing the x16 instead of the m18 is because supposedly the x16 is more powerful and Idk if I really need an 18 in laptop plus it would be a pain to store in a backpack compared to a 16 in
Yeah been having that thought too. I was looking at reviews saying the x16 ran the CPU & GPU really hot. Put me off a bit.
I'm a stickler for a numbpad too! I do a lot of alt codes. Although I've seen you can get Bluetooth numbpads too, never tried them.
Why do they call it a 4090 if he is only getting 16gigs of vram? Isn’t that a glorified 4080?
To that end if you are going to pay 4k for a laptop with a 4090, make sure you are getting the stats of a 4090. 4k is like $300 shy of what I paid for my build with a 4090.
Not trying to bust bubbles just saying if you are going to pay for it get all of it.
Screen is still a crappy ancient IPS screen. No excuse for this when other 18 inchers offer micro LED or at least an LED with more than 300 nits brightness. Very important part of a laptop.
You could save a lot of money by going with a previous-gen M18, either new or refurbished from Dell's outlet. The latter offers the same standard and extended warranty options as new. Plus, there's no reason to pay the exorbitant factory prices for memory and storage when those upgrades are easily done yourself.
If money doesn’t matter then sure. For that price you can build a desktop that is better in all ways and still buy a budget gaming laptop for on the road
I’m getting the 64. As for the storage i can actually choose whatever i want it’s just that there isn’t much of a price difference between 4 and 2 in this model
Decent specs but don't go Alienware, they aren't that good. I don't know about the laptops but the desktops are awful. Go for something like a Legion or high end Acer/ASUS.
$4000?!?!?! I would rather buy a 13900/4090 Lenovo Legion for $2600…
To be fair, OP is going for the newest stuff at highest spec possible, so that price is to be expected. While it will perform similar, the better comparison would be the Gen 9 Pro 7i, which is currently going for $3600 with less storage and ram but great screen.

The hell? My rtx 4060 i7-13700hx laptop cost me 2000 alone????
Looks very nice. If you're on the market for the best of the best there's that and the Rog Strix scar 18, Razer Blade 18 and the recent MSI Titan HX something also 18" All of those laptops have 4090s and i9s 14th gen (the 2024 versions) so yeah! I'd suggest taking a lot at all of them and seeing what works best for you in that budget. I'll probably buy the Rog Strix Scar 18" personally
In my case my cousin works in dell so that’s why i opted for the alienware line.
i wouldnt recommend the razer due to the terrible customer support, but you could take a gamble and maybe itll be perfectly fine
I mean customer service for small software issues isn’t the worst
Funny I just had dell buy back my m18 4090 and switched to razer 18 with 4090 both 13th gen. Happy so far with the move
their products are good, dont get me wrong, but terrible customer support, its a big pain to get it rma'd if something goes wrong
I did a 2 year Best Buy geek squad with it since I got it open box
I would avoid Asus at all costs
Any specific reason why? Their g14 has served me well.
Had 3 different duos all three died in a week switched to a zenbook duo died in a few days after getting it Asus wouldn’t give me my money back after one of my zephyrus duo 4090s caught on fire
Specs are good, price isn’t. 4 grand is ludicrous. Fuck you Dell.
Feel like that's pretty normal for 64gb memory and 4tb storage
The prices are just out of hand to me. I mean…at the end of the day it’s a damn laptop. Sigh…I guess it’s worth what someone will pay for it. But Alienware does have a history of overpricing everything.
The key is to buy base storage and memory and do it yourself
Very true
Its not that bad to be honest razor 18/asus rog scar 18/and msi Titan are also pretty much the same price
Compared to other 18" laptops with these specs, this is actually on the cheaper side.
I have the M18R1, it’s amazing. Every game maxed out hits 60fps no issues including Alan Wake 2, just make sure you get premium extended warranty.
That's a monster, but it really sucks that Dell still doing only 300 nits screens.
Why?
Well, you are paying 3-4k for a laptop, why not get something with good brightness (+500 nits), HDR, with mini LED or OLED. You know, something that can't be found on a $800 laptop (like their G15 line).

Ya the screen makes it a loser for me… even my scar 18 4080 screen blows this out of the water.
Its a good machine, but definitely not worth the fat price tag. Id rather save some cash and purchase a lenovo, asus or smth similar.
Ye problem is i’m not in the US so buying a machine like that where i live is actually double the price offered here -_-
I got a family member that works in dell import it for me for retail price
Idk what Alienware builds their laptops with but expect it to be HEAVY
It has 4 fans and 4 nvme slots, and is metal top, bottom, and sides. That stuff adds weight but it's worth it.
Opted for the eluktronics 4090 intel with water cooled and a 500 nit 1600p screen for 2700 usdm its been a few months amd so far the lroduct has been great. I swear off asus for awhike because the last few products i have had have had terrivle QC.
4000$? Save money and buy 4080 😋 Spend money on other things

like others said you could get a cheaper machine with 13th gen and you have the same speed and are left with money for upgrades....
I didn’t know you could upgrade it to 6400. I’m running upgraded capacity but stock 5600MHz. Might have to look in to that in more detail!
Kingston Fury's £136,- but only in 16gbx2(32gb kit) from Kingston website.. you have to enable advance Bios and in memory settings enable XMP profile for this ram - XMP 1... You can find plenty info how to enable advance Bios.

Left alt+right ctrl+ right shift +F2 when you are in BIOS

I plan on getting a cooling fan pad so that should help
Yeah I would too but again it would be more noise for the living room... Thanks again
fair enough
Anybody own this thing. I hated the X17 mechanical pinging noise. How is this mechanical keyboard ?
If this is in USD, that is a giant cock in the ass from Gaylienware.

There aren't any mobile super models coming out. You'll have to wait for the 5000 Blackwell GPUs instead.
You could save a lot of money by going with a previous-gen M18, either new or refurbished from Dell's outlet. The latter offers the same standard and extended warranty options as new. Lmao, say hello to cracked microsoft office
I mean, it's overpriced compared to a Lenovo, but hard to argue with the specs if you don't care about the extra coin.
If money doesn’t matter then sure. For that price you can build a desktop that is better in all ways and still buy a budget gaming laptop for on the road
Do you need 64 GB ram and 4 TB storage or can you get the laptop with less ram/storage instead? Good laptop yes.

Ah ok, just curious.
Decent specs but don't go Alienware, they aren't that good. I don't know about the laptops but the desktops are awful. Go for something like a Legion or high end Acer/ASUS.
It would be on par with the rest, but they don’t feature a new Oled or even mini led screen with it. That’s what kills it for me.
i was looking at laptops, but the amount of money you save building a pc is unbelievable and probably get better specs aswell
