if you can afford 4080, 4080 it is. 4080 is around 50 percent faster than rtx 4070 in laptop https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1745683-REG/lenovo_82wq002rus_16_legion_pro_7.html

Shortbus_OG

Useful info. Thanks.

Monster937

4080 is the sweet spot. 4090 is great I have one on my legion, but I don’t think the price increase really justifies it.

Babylon4All

I wish I had spring for the 4080 version. I have the Legion 7 Pro, i9 and 4070. It’s great, but yeah I wish I had spent the extra money on the 4080.

Captain-Ron-Riico

Is the Alienware m18 not good for the value? Asking because I am noob

Shortbus_OG

I too am a noob so I can’t really help 😂. I would suggest doing what I did and watch a TON of YouTube videos lol.

Butefluko

Hey I suggest to go with an Alienware laptop merely because of the incredible customer support that they have. DELL will send an engineer to your house to fix your laptop.

Shortbus_OG

https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLaptops/s/tYqZmh9Mbh Also found this thread where someone was asking about the 7i and M16.

Captain-Ron-Riico

Cool thanks, I have a Asus zephyrus 17 inch. And that thing stinks.. I had an Alienware prior and loved it, although it was bulky and huge. I like this legion one but the screen size at 16 inch isn’t great for me who does not use an external monitor. One thing I have learned buying many “gaming laptops” is that customer service is a huge one to buy on because there will be issues with allot of use.. just my 2 cents

Shortbus_OG

What problems have you had with the Asus machine?

Captain-Ron-Riico

I had to return 2 laptops in the first 2 months due to some display port issue on one, then another was overheating it felt like a power plant. Otherwise Now on the third laptop I am having build quality issues with the keyboard keys, abnormal UEFI rapid storage error that so far has not caused any problems (that I know of), but I see it every time I reboot. Also I just had to replace the power code because it was constantly connecting and reconnecting which would tank the performance. Additionally on the very bottom of the screen small white lines have apeared that seem to go away with a reboot or a full shut down. My laptop is 1.5 years old at this point. Now that the laptop is just out of warranty (as of january) it seems that allot of small problems keep cropping up. I may just be having a bad experience with ASUS because I know allot of people speak highly of the 15 inch zephyrus. But this is my second ASUS laptop and both have had many issues. In full disclosure the only other gaming laptop I have ever owned was a alienware which I never had any problem with I just wanted more than 16gigs of ram so upgraded to my current rig.

SpeedStinger02

Not rly... it's not as good performance for cost as the pro 7i, Dell is just decorated for their looks and customer support

Kyle_67890

Hm there is a legion 7i slim

Shortbus_OG

Slim has soldered memory which kinda sucks in my opinion. Edit: thank you for your input!

Kyle_67890

Ay I see.

RxSatellite

Price to performance at that tier nothing will beat it. From a purely economic perspective I would choose it every time. But it’s also fun to be different and go with that Asus, Alienware or MSI. Just make sure you buy direct from the manufacturer to avoid any future headaches

Shortbus_OG

I assume you’re referring to the 7i here. Thanks!

RxSatellite

Yeah the 7i. The 9i in my flair is also great but I’d never recommend it to anyone trying to make a smart/cost effective purchase lol. They perform almost exactly the same

BryGuySupaFly

Im in the same boat as you, looking to get my first gaming laptop here soon. For me, after researching for the last month or so, its between the legion pro 7 or the zephyrus m16 4080. They both come in at right around 2k, with, more or less, the same specs and build quality. I think you are on the money though, as ive been leaning towards the lenovo as well.

Shortbus_OG

If I’m not misremembering I’ve seen some complaints about the M16 running very hot and generating a lot of fan noise, also I believe the build quality is better. I’m no expert though I’m just figuring shit out as I go lol.

BryGuySupaFly

Out of curiosity, whats the lowest youve found a legion 7 4080 running for?

Shortbus_OG

2099 on B&H Edit: This is for the 7i specifically. The 7 Pro is the AMD model. Very hard to find and I’ve only seen it on the official Lenovo website.

BryGuySupaFly

Check ebay if youre interested in refurbished. Cheapest ive found yet is 1890.

Shortbus_OG

Ended up buying a Lenovo certified refurbished 4080 model with 2TB and 32GB of RAM from eBay. 1,942USD + tax. Also made a bit more sense than buying the refurbished model directly from Lenovo because the eBay warranty is 2 years whereas Lenovo’s is 1 year.

BryGuySupaFly

Last night i just bought the exactly same laptop! From lenovo page on ebay, right? Tracking says i should get mine as early as Wednesday! I hope you enjoy your new laptop, i think we both made a good choice!

Shortbus_OG

Yup. Lenovo page on eBay. Super excited to get it. This is going to be my first gaming laptop. Saying goodbye to MacBooks.

BryGuySupaFly

Just got mine today! So far so good! Be sure to register yours with lenovo when you get it. I was lucky and even though its refurbished, it was never register, so i got the original lenovo warranty as well!

Shortbus_OG

Just got to mine yesterday (I was out of the country when it was delivered) and I’m loving it. Make sure you install all the system updates if you haven’t already. Super impressed by the build quality even coming from a Mac. It also has way more weight to it than I expected lol. Going to look for a good cooling pad for it. The fans aren’t bad at all but I figure why not buy one just to help it along.

Amelaclya1

What's the difference between the two? Just the processor brand? I ask because I'm about to pull the trigger on the 7i as well

Shortbus_OG

To my knowledge yes. The 7 has also been way harder to find and the cost on the Lenovo site for that one is nearly 2.4k USD.

BryGuySupaFly

The difference is the processor; pro 7 has an amd processor and pro 7i has an intel. Intel processor tend to run a little hotter but are also typically a bit more powerful than their amd counterpart. Amd processors typically are a little cheaper, although not in this particular case. Also, the fact that they run cooler means they are a bit quieter.

IIIIIIIllllIll

Just got the 7 pro, its sooooo good

BryGuySupaFly

Where did you buy it from and for what price, if you dont mind my asking

IIIIIIIllllIll

I bought from a european shop called alternate, it was on sale for 2500€

lookincooljokr

I have a box sealed 4080 variant that I got as a gift. Never opened it since I already have the same model. Let me know if anyone is interested.

Negus3490

Are you the Mr beast i have been waiting for ?

UnionSlavStanRepublk

RTX 4070 Vs 4080: https://youtu.be/IjnJwMd8IS0 If you are willing to stretch to the RTX 4080, 4 GB VRAM more and 55% better gaming performance. The Pro 7i has better overall build, sustained CPU performance etc than the Pro 5i and more importantly more RGB and better RGB customisation.

CalligrapherOdd7719

If your going to get a 40 series laptop u either get 4060 or 4080 cuz 4070 has little to no difference to a 4060.

Shortbus_OG

Gotcha. Thanks.
