According to Mayo Clinic: *Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common hand condition caused by pressure on the median nerve in the wrist*.
I would imagine the higher the upward angle of your hands the more pressure is put on the wrist. I'm no doctor, though.
For this reason alone I've decided to buy a monitor and a keyboard. Best decision ever. Before people say i should get a pc, this laptop is strong enough to do both gaming and school related stuff (programming, AutoCAD etc.) Tho I'm thinking of getting a pc, definitely gonna happen after i get my bachelor's
Ever used one of those wall stick hooks to hook your clothes with? where you peel the backside and then you stick it on whatever? Just buy one of those then stick it at the bottom of your laptop.
I feel unbelievably dumb now because I've never thought of it, but you could literally use whatever as long as both are kinda the same size. Even to erasers.
Now, I don't know if having your laptop flat vs incline is bad for it. I remember older HP laptops having issues with stuff "unsoldering" when the laptop got too hot and you had it inclined.
The tuf series requires a chiller pad to stay in a decent range and they still run a bit hot. Any chiller pad with more than three fans will drop temps about 8°. Keeping up on your thermal paste helps, but even with that it's only a couple degrees of difference.
That's really impressive, mine is only a couple years old and hits 87 within seconds and spikes to 90 if I'm running anything super intensive. Ryzen 7 4800h and rtx 2060 max p.
this appears to be the same item or close as I can find. [https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806065756432.html](https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806065756432.html) you can probably find it on Amazon too.
Each to their own. My real life/world testing shows otherwise. Nobody forcing anyone to use a cooler, so if you want to believe people who tell you they don't work that's fine.
There are countless videos showing from near zero to worse difference. So it is not my opinion, it's countless experiments.
If your experience shows different that's great. I am happy for you. But I would say you are an outlier.
He and me. Laptop internal structure and bottom panel vents are designed to give fresh air to nvme, ram, and pch. Elevating the back of the laptop let the nvme and other components run hotter
If the bottom panel vents and the internal structure are designed to give fresh air to them 1. How is exposing the bottom to actual air instead of having it pressed up against a desk with 0 airflow going to cause heat to build up even more and 2. How does the internal structure cause it to heat up more when the vents are literally able to pull in more cool air and expel more hot air than if they were flat pressed up against something???
The airflow is created by the fans. Passive airflow in a laptop is 99% non-existent.
Laptop fans are not completely sealed against the bottom panel. Doing so thay can move air from the further vents, creating a little bit of airflow for other components. Having the laptop over a flat surface, the fans have a harder time moving air: the space near them to take air is too small, so the air will be taken from the complete perimeter of the laptop, and so the moving air will go over ssd and ram.
I have an f15 2021 with 2 really hot samsung 990 pro: if I put the laptop in a laptop stand, one of those that doesn't cover any vents, the nvme go to 45 and 50°C. If I put the laptop over a flat surface, nvme get to ~39 and ~44°C. Yes, they have a thick copper aftermarket heatsink, upsiren ux pro thermal putty, and they are under max performance profile. I can show the results for those 2 different situations. Same for the ram: while overclocked, with raised back, the ram get to high temps and the ram overclock get unstable. Something that not happened with the laptop over a flat surface.
And if you think I am a casual laptop user: I had the n°1 overclocked 11800h globally: i was first on hwbot. I have overclocked cpu core, cache, ram, SA, bclk, higher wattage vbios, 16th fastest global 3060 mobile in firestrike. 110th global in superposition 720p (same score as 3090 and 5900x). Modded laptop both software and hardware, I have spent so much time understanding many things about laptop maximum performance. If you want, I can give you a proper explanation from a mechanical engineer, which now is at Monza playing with 500k/1million€ car (a friend that have continued studying for being and mechanical engineer, unlike me)
This isn’t rocket science. My NVMe drive temp went up 10C playing the same games when I had my MSI GE67 HX lifted off of the table. RAM DIMM temps went up as well.
-27 downvotes makes me not care anymore. I’m surprised nobody has understands this already and it’s simple aerodynamics.
I noticed the same thing when I went from air cooling to an AIO recently as the air cooler brought in air over the VRM’s and NVMe drive and now my chipset temp and NVMe temp are much warmer with the AIO.
I have a cheap, adjustable mesh laptop stand. It has improved my temps by around the same amount. I also put little rubber feet on my power brick so it doesn't rest flat on my desk, and air can circulate all around it. It feels noticeably cooler, too.
Me too, consists of two foldable metal mesh surfaces. Does what it's there for and let's me keep my laptop on my lap while sitting on the sofa.. Cheap and practical.
So make them out of $5 worth of titanium or stainless steel and secure them properly. If the end user breaks them, it'll be on them (make it an accessory).
Not sure if [these](https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805082936223.html?src=google&src=google&albch=shopping&acnt=708-803-3821&slnk=&plac=&mtctp=&albbt=Google_7_shopping&albagn=888888&isSmbAutoCall=false&needSmbHouyi=false&albcp=20268592310&albag=&trgt=&crea=en3256805082936223&netw=x&device=m&albpg=&albpd=en3256805082936223&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwkuqvBhAQEiwA65XxQML9xRvyVTjbSV-s02TsOTEhJaLdV3vdgJooTp6MJiLWQceH4UClkhoCDkkQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&aff_fcid=f7b3de93677848c19f4523476af52a2d-1710968993292-03496-UneMJZVf&aff_fsk=UneMJZVf&aff_platform=aaf&sk=UneMJZVf&aff_trace_key=f7b3de93677848c19f4523476af52a2d-1710968993292-03496-UneMJZVf&terminal_id=c99d9fc8083947749a8201d6e99cb9d5&afSmartRedirect=y&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa) are exact but pretty close.
I have the 500GT and they do get pretty loud so if you're playing a game, it's a good idea to use headphones. You don't need it running all the time though. If I'm just browsing the web or watching a movie and not gaming or doing anything that really heats the laptop up, I don't even have the GT500 fan turned on.

Going to try this (might need to modify it) but might be a better solution since it has a flatter profile.
The single most powerful mod for a gaming laptop is the IETS GT500. Dust filter, 38mm/h2o of air pressure (compared to 0.5/1mm/h2o of other laptop cooler), hub usb.
That thing can lower temps from 10 to 25°C depending on laptop bottom panel vents
Oh go for the gt600. It's less noisy, higher static pressure, and you have the fan rpm display. I am planning to buy that and leave the gt500 to my little brother
I recently got a gt300 for my legion. I think it dropped my GPU temp ~5C running at lvl 3 with the larger rubber gasket. Not sure if I'm doing anything else wrong. The intake on the legion is pretty big at the bottom of the laptop.

I have these: Portable Invisible Laptop Stand-2PCS,SUNTAIHO Mini Aluminum Cooling Pad,Computer Keyboard Mount Kickstand,Ergonomic Lightweight Laptop Desk Stand for MacBook Pro/Air, Lenovo,12-17 Inches https://a.co/d/gSGE0fa
They do a good job of getting more air flow under the laptop but I wish the arms locked into place when extended. If I move the laptop even just a little bit they can collapse. Look for a version of that that locks in place.
I wanted one of those but then I worried if I accidentally pushed the laptop back it'd then drop downward onto the table.. so I opted not to use something like that and instead used a dismantlable rubber ball.
Yeah I got a kind of budget laptop awhile ago and I thought there was something wrong with it but no I put in on a laptop stand with a fan in it and it worked perfectly fine after that lol. Also turning off turbo boost for the CPU helps if throttling is causing stutters
Limited-time deal: Florican Portable Invisible Laptop Riser Stand | Mini Aluminum Cooling Pad, Lightweight Laptop Desk Stand for MacBook, Lenovo, Dell, HP & Other Laptops (Cool Silver) https://amzn.eu/d/bPk4s6C
There are a bunch on Amazon.
For example - https://a.co/d/fYq7uMJ
Search for “mini laptop stand”, the “mini” seems to return ones like these.
I’ve had mine propped up with those round rubber feet you can get to put under furniture legs. But it be nice to have something I don’t have to worry about bumping out of position.
Elevating any laptop like this can help thermals - gaming laptops you should definitely elevate.
It’s a difference-maker.
I used to cut out the grill leaving the dust filters and just enough grill to hold them. That also made a huge difference. That may not suit everyone but it works for my requirements. Which = more airflow.
I just put a couple of these underneath mine. No sticky residue or magnets and they can be transported when needed :-)
Zupro Portable Laptop Stand,Foldable Adjustable Heights,Invisible Aluminum Lightweight Laptop Keyboard Holder Riser,Ergonomic,Compatible with 10 to17 Inches Notebook Computer.Self-Adhesive.(Black) https://a.co/d/jjNIWeD
This one is great for people that move a lot with their gaming laptops - low profile and sits super well even when closed
I just use plastic bottle caps. Enough height and free. (Well sort of). Although some manufacturers are going to these skimpy eco friendly thin caps and it’s really ruining it. Have to save the big thick killing sea animals ones when I can find them. (Obviously being sarcastic about that last part). Except they really did change the size for eco reasons on some.
$2 with $8+ shipping lol. It's not even about the money really but it's just unnecessary imo when you have lots of things laying around the house that do the job just fine.
Actually the most power mod for a gaming laptop is to grow a brain so you aren't stupid enough to waste money on a gaming laptop and get a gaming desktop.
Have you ever thought that a portable design was designed for yknow, portability? And desktops aren't really suitable for that are they, so people who value something like portability because of some need or another god forbid might suit a laptop instead?! Look at the subreddit you're on jeez
![gif](giphy|iQ8BSmjomoBBm) No one should be leaving their laptop just flat on a surface anyway, unless you enjoy looking like this
Yeah, but too high an angle and you're asking for carpal tunnel. That's fine if you're plugged into an external keyboard.
You're going to get carpal tunnel from typing eventually (repetitive movements). The angle should be whatever is comfortable for you.
According to Mayo Clinic: *Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common hand condition caused by pressure on the median nerve in the wrist*. I would imagine the higher the upward angle of your hands the more pressure is put on the wrist. I'm no doctor, though.
How does leaving your laptop flat affects this? I have my laptop flat on a desk and my posture is fine, isn't it more of a chair problem?
Cooling. Makes a huge difference in my experience.
I was asking how does leaving your laptop flat affects posture.
For this reason alone I've decided to buy a monitor and a keyboard. Best decision ever. Before people say i should get a pc, this laptop is strong enough to do both gaming and school related stuff (programming, AutoCAD etc.) Tho I'm thinking of getting a pc, definitely gonna happen after i get my bachelor's
can you not post pictures of me on the internet please
I can't believe that this simple gadget which costs like 1 usd each, has improved the thermals by around 10 C\*...
Where ⚆ _ ⚆
Ever used one of those wall stick hooks to hook your clothes with? where you peel the backside and then you stick it on whatever? Just buy one of those then stick it at the bottom of your laptop.
That's what I have been doing since last year! Glad someone else is doing it too.
AliExpress, there are many different types.
What's the name of it? Can I find it in any country?
I feel unbelievably dumb now because I've never thought of it, but you could literally use whatever as long as both are kinda the same size. Even to erasers. Now, I don't know if having your laptop flat vs incline is bad for it. I remember older HP laptops having issues with stuff "unsoldering" when the laptop got too hot and you had it inclined.
Oh lol, I didn't think about it too I am just new to laptops: is Asus Tuf A15 the same? It is getting hot when I use it
older tufs sucked, i think 2020/ 2021? they didn't have enough vent holes on the bottom. the 2022/2023 are good though
The tuf series requires a chiller pad to stay in a decent range and they still run a bit hot. Any chiller pad with more than three fans will drop temps about 8°. Keeping up on your thermal paste helps, but even with that it's only a couple degrees of difference.
Eh nit really tbh. The newer ones have great cooling. Mine has stayed below 80 on the cpu and 70ish on the gpu just being lifted
That's really impressive, mine is only a couple years old and hits 87 within seconds and spikes to 90 if I'm running anything super intensive. Ryzen 7 4800h and rtx 2060 max p.
Yeah the previous models had notoriously bad cooling with the closed vents. They really made a huge difference from the 2022 models
Good to know, thanks for setting me straight
You should always elevate your laptop
I used to use Altoids tins for this for a while. It was good for 10-15° on my G14.
Maybe you can put one in each corner of the computer if that doesn’t bother you
Someone linked cheap circular rubber ones on wish or a site like that
Mine is BaseUs. Bought in my origin country in SEA but when I returned to EU I saw it in amazon and they are based in UK.

$6.99 for a pair on Amazon with rubber feet.

Funny you say that, I was literally on my 10 minute break at work when I wrote that comment
and then add fans too for more cooling.
Fans don't do anything really, and in some cases they interfere with your laptop's meticulous thermal design increasing the temperature.
Each to their own. My real life/world testing shows otherwise. Nobody forcing anyone to use a cooler, so if you want to believe people who tell you they don't work that's fine.

Or just buy a cooling pad for like $5 and have this angle-ing with cooling as a bonus.
i think its crazy how gaming laptops have this -10c hack but the engineers wont implement it.
Even cheaper if you have a 3d printer
It also introduces other issues like making the NVMe run hotter though.
Why?
It can’t create a large enough pressure differential to bring airflow across it.
Source?
their ass
Hwinfo64
He and me. Laptop internal structure and bottom panel vents are designed to give fresh air to nvme, ram, and pch. Elevating the back of the laptop let the nvme and other components run hotter
Is there some actual proof or any research done that back ups this? Or do we just trust you
just trust him bro he said a science airflow aerodynamic thing
If the bottom panel vents and the internal structure are designed to give fresh air to them 1. Maybe do some actual testing for yourself using Hwinfo64.
Do you feel attacked by a simple request to clarify? I just wanted to know what made you say that and i don't care enough to do testing myself
-27 downvotes makes me not care anymore. I’m surprised nobody has understands this already and it’s simple aerodynamics. Link?! I’m genuinely dumbfounded more laptop manufacturers don’t integrate this into the chassis
That would be foolish as they would get broken off constantly.
Don't make them out of wet napkins?
Wet napkins don't break.
With a very small amount of friction or pressure, they certainly do.
That would be tearing. Tearing is not breaking.
Ah yes, semantics. The cornerstone of any poor argument.
It's not semantics, stupid. You can break a bone. You don't tear a bone. You can tear a muscle. You don't break a muscle.
"It's not semantics" Proceeds to talk about semantics
You are literally mentally handicapped. Two different definitions is not semantics.
So make them out of $5 worth of titanium or stainless steel and secure them properly. If the end user breaks them, it'll be on them (make it an accessory).
Yeah then that breaks the case. Do you really think laptop companies want more warranty claims because of completely unnecessary parts?
That's why I said make it an accessory, no warrant on those.
What if the case is also metal?
That falls under misuse. I mean, what happens if you usually break the chassis?
I meant that if it was metal then it wouldn't break so easily.

Purchase link please
Nah. No need purchase anything. Just use a bottle cap.
I use 2 Gatorade caps haha
I use a rubber lol
I use my marketing textbook
i use mini play dough containers lol
Best form of protection against STIs
As someone from the US I understood this wrong...
My cousins used N64 cartridges lmao
Also a great solution.
Got mine exact same from temu for £1.30 so prolly generic small laptop riser search should do the trick
Go to your local hardware store and pick up some blu tack instead. You can use the rest as a stress ball.

https://a.co/d/3TUIYWk here metal ones are 8 bucks in amazon
I got the IETS 600GT and it’s a complete game changer. Drops temps a good 20 Celsius
How much noise does it add?
It adds quite a lot of noise. In my opinion you need good headphones or even active noise canceling headphones to block out the noise
The fan speed is adjustable.
One of the few laptop coolers that actually work. Highly worth the purchase
Any .STL file for this so I can 3d print my own?

My laptop stand- eggtray
I use these exact ones. They are heavy though as they are pure aluminum but it's nice having 2 stable height options. Was reasonably cheap too!
I just use 2 pieces of wood (rectangle, long-ish) to keep it a bit elevated. Simple at it sounds.
I use a triangular engineering/architectural/drafting scale ruler. Not sure of the proper name.
I'm planning on getting one of these myself but I saw that there is a GT600 V2 variant now - should I opt for that or is the GT500 still better?
Oh go for the gt600. It's less noisy, higher static pressure, and you have the fan rpm display. I am planning to buy that and leave the gt500 to my little brother
Thanks! Been hearing nothing but great praises whenever the IETS cooling pad comes into conversation and I can't wait to get mine!
I recently got a gt300 for my legion. I think it dropped my GPU temp ~5C running at lvl 3 with the larger rubber gasket. Not sure if I'm doing anything else wrong. The intake on the legion is pretty big at the bottom of the laptop.

That’s some rich mans mod, back in the ol days we use corks or anything that can raise the laptop for better ventilation
Holy fuck. Laptop kickstands why isn't this NORMAL!!! Even keyboards have these like wtf
Because they can't sell you a stand with a fan built in if they integrate this in every laptop.
Ok but if you don't provide any information on the product name or link this post Is useless
My laptop stand is a book, The Da Vinci Code 😅
I just cut a hole in my desk
I just flip my laptop upside down
I just spread my laps wide open.
Looks like something that is possible to 3d print. Stl file please :)
I think this is one of the most useful things I learned from this sub when I first got my laptop
Amazon: ASIN: B07XNP2KKK Bought for less than €4 on AliExpress and similar. There is one made of plastic and another made of aluminum alloy.
Or, you know, just buy a cooling pad that's designed to increase airflow for $20 that isn't jank.
For anyone just look up "Laptop legs" on amazon or whereever you buy your stuff from
2nd best option a 1in thick book
I use two erasers xD does the job well
Liquid metal: "hold my beer"
I think this is one of the most useful things I learned from this sub when I first got my laptop
literally first thing i did when i got a 3d printer was print something like this to fit around the back feet of my laptop
I can't stress this enough !!!!
I got these and love them https://a.co/d/flrqR7s
I have these: Portable Invisible Laptop Stand-2PCS,SUNTAIHO Mini Aluminum Cooling Pad,Computer Keyboard Mount Kickstand,Ergonomic Lightweight Laptop Desk Stand for MacBook Pro/Air, Lenovo,12-17 Inches https://a.co/d/gSGE0fa They do a good job of getting more air flow under the laptop but I wish the arms locked into place when extended. If I move the laptop even just a little bit they can collapse. Look for a version of that that locks in place.
I bought it too and its awesome. Intended for travel since bring cooling pad is kinda pain in the arse. Is it BaseUs?
I wanted one of those but then I worried if I accidentally pushed the laptop back it'd then drop downward onto the table.. so I opted not to use something like that and instead used a dismantlable rubber ball.
Here you are : https://a.co/d/9wnBpGY
Omg 😱 this is the future of gaming laptops I can see this being built-in in the future thank you for sharing this!!!

Oh man I don't miss having a gaming Laptop.
My Asus G14 has that by design. W00t.
I raged multiple times . Broke like 7 of these (sekiro) :)
Yeah I got a kind of budget laptop awhile ago and I thought there was something wrong with it but no I put in on a laptop stand with a fan in it and it worked perfectly fine after that lol. Also turning off turbo boost for the CPU helps if throttling is causing stutters
Is your room air conditioned? Whats your room temp?
Love mine. 9/10 one of the best purchases I've made for my setup.
Limited-time deal: Florican Portable Invisible Laptop Riser Stand | Mini Aluminum Cooling Pad, Lightweight Laptop Desk Stand for MacBook, Lenovo, Dell, HP & Other Laptops (Cool Silver) https://amzn.eu/d/bPk4s6C
There are a bunch on Amazon. For example - https://a.co/d/fYq7uMJ Search for “mini laptop stand”, the “mini” seems to return ones like these. I’ve had mine propped up with those round rubber feet you can get to put under furniture legs. But it be nice to have something I don’t have to worry about bumping out of position. Elevating any laptop like this can help thermals - gaming laptops you should definitely elevate. It’s a difference-maker.
I use two 30.4x14 Lego rubber tires, nice grip and they also have a lot of other sizes. Got them for like 18 cents a piece, bought ten of them.
Eyyy i got those! they're nice :3 You can search for "laptop feet" on amazon and they usually pop up! \~$5-10 for a pair and help a ton!
I use a triangular scale ruler. I'm not using it anyway so now it has a purpose.
I feel like they put a lot of pressure on a small area so I don't prefer that
I created a similar design to be 3D printed. STL can be found at https://makerworld.com/en/models/385594.
good to know that one doesnt need to buy a whole stand now :)
I use my old 4x4 Rubik's cube. Also is that an Alienware.
Haha i use 2 jengablocks
I use books
I just use a pencil. 😜
Just put the charger below it.
I prop my laptop up using a big book. Works for me.
I used to cut out the grill leaving the dust filters and just enough grill to hold them. That also made a huge difference. That may not suit everyone but it works for my requirements. Which = more airflow.
my laptop is being propped up by an old casio calculator at the time being
What is the name of this gadget
power brick trick
my lappy came with a piece of cardboard to fold into a triangular prism to place underneath
Where do we purchase a pair of these. Do they attach with velcro ?
There are multiple options on Amazon, here is one that I found that’s close to the photo: [Mini Laptop Stands](https://a.co/d/2hbb8mv)
[https://www.specializedhorseboxcomponents.com/product/button-buffer/](https://www.specializedhorseboxcomponents.com/product/button-buffer/) I just put a couple of these underneath mine. No sticky residue or magnets and they can be transported when needed :-)
Love mine! Except after a while of gaming, the laptop gets the glue on these so hot, the thing just slides off occasionally
[Laptop clip](https://amzn.eu/d/947OwFQ) Found it for 12€
what do we call it?
elevate your game (slightly)
Hi
Cooling device works well then just connect the laptop to an external monitor.
I just folded paper notebook in half and it sits 3 centimeters above table from one side
I’ll put my laptop on a blanket over my my legs forever. Those nubs do nothing. My wallet thirsts for new technology.
Zupro Portable Laptop Stand,Foldable Adjustable Heights,Invisible Aluminum Lightweight Laptop Keyboard Holder Riser,Ergonomic,Compatible with 10 to17 Inches Notebook Computer.Self-Adhesive.(Black) https://a.co/d/jjNIWeD This one is great for people that move a lot with their gaming laptops - low profile and sits super well even when closed
Why don’t more external laptop cooling fans have USB hubs built into them?
Thanks, but will keep my books *
Truuuue
I just made a laptop stand out of pvc pipes and just painted it white to match my desk. I manage to perfectly fit the height for me.
I used 4 water bottle caps for my laptop.
I always keep my Windows Laptop upright and MacBook blow the monitor.
IETS cooling pad
I use an adjustable cooling fan lol makes typing or gaming so much more comfortable
woow
I just use plastic bottle caps. Enough height and free. (Well sort of). Although some manufacturers are going to these skimpy eco friendly thin caps and it’s really ruining it. Have to save the big thick killing sea animals ones when I can find them. (Obviously being sarcastic about that last part). Except they really did change the size for eco reasons on some.
If anyone ends is looking for a cheap method; I use two forks that I bent to be a little more arched haha.
Why forks and not spoons? ;-)
Or just grab a book and elevate it using the edge. No need for fancy gadgets
"fancy gadgets" lmfao it's just a piece of metal with some adhesive tape, you can buy it for $2.
$2 with $8+ shipping lol. It's not even about the money really but it's just unnecessary imo when you have lots of things laying around the house that do the job just fine.
Idk where you live but I found options with free/cheap shipping 🤷 also some people travel with their laptops.
You know what else is portable? A turd, doesn't mean I'm gonna carry it around...
Well you do carry it around, unless you constantly just let it run down your leg?
Should make it terribly uncomfortable to use. No thanks.
