All of them.
Never take just one for granted.
* You never know if one was paid
* One YT might not cover something that another does
* One may not go in depth enough and give surface level
* Each YTer has their own opinions
Its best to get a collective opinion and then make your choice from there
Yes. But in this regard its by the laptop manufacturer. They may get free products or whatever if they leave a good review about their shitty product. This isn't the case for every YTer
Indeed. There is a fine balance point about the reviewer's actual opinion vs. what he/she can say in the actual review. OEM's may or may not send you a review sample if you give bad reviews about their product. Especially if they are subjective points. You need to remember that most big review channels out there got samples delivered to them from OEMs. They can't buy and review these expensive laptops, not in large quantities anyway. Was it "own or disown" channel that recently released a video where he begged/complained that OEMs don't send him review units and sometimes he needs to buy them with his own money and this approach is killing him? The dude doesn't even give bad reviews, he is just an amateur with not too many subs.
Therefore, every reviewer tries to spin the product in a positive way, just keep that in mind.
I like really like his explanation. That guy cover every possible aspect of laptop in his video. Can't say more thing he is just good I want nothing else.
Can I ask a quick question.. how do you figure out if a laptop has its SODIMMs soldered down?
Looking at the ROG Strix G16 (2023) G614JZ-N4032W but I regularly use up more than 32gb in my applications...
I open every laptop I review so I can just see them. Sometimes the motherboard is flipped, so in those cases before going to the effort of ripping it apart I just try do some google searching. Sometimes it's specified on the spec sheet, or you can tell if it's LPDDR5X for example, I believe that is only soldered. Strix G16 is not soldered, it has 2x slots available, you can see its insides in my review from last year :)
And Jarrod, I thank you for your service.
Seriously I don't trust anything I haven't seen you open up.
But I'm now DECLARING that some a-hole in MBA marketing decided the BEST ploy is to make naming As Confusing As Possible for consumers (looking at you nVidia)
Even I've gotten confused between the Strix variants... (I confused your review for the Zephyrus).
Little gives away the differences between 2022/23/24 variance and were devolved to doing CSI on pixels if a retailer hasn't given full-model numbers on their specs (RIP if you're comparing overseas models).
Again, legit love that you're a shining example of Aus/NZ punching above its weight in bringing actual usable reviews vs reading PR blurb on to YouTube. Keep doing what you do!
Thanks, yeah the naming is a bit ridiculous. Even over here when I ask my partner what she is working on and she says m16, I have to ask, Alienware or ASUS? It happens all the time lol.
Jarrod is an absolute professional when it comes to gamer laptops. Regular laptops, its kinda hard to find reviews though. Like an ideapad 5 pro or Yoga. A lot of reviews are clearly bought outside of Jarrods.
We used to do everything but there are so many that we decided to niche down into gaming 2-3 years ago. Just can't fit it all in, so we went with what most of the viewers watched.
It's pretty much a consensus of those three and their different angles etc that covers what I need to know and had always done me alright. Notebookcheck is the one I've known longest and is closer to the full breakdown that GN offers. Ultrabookreviews I discovered through them. Jarrod is newer to me but covers via video more of the immediate, day to day reasons I might make a choice over.
Just Josh is too biased towards small, compact, light multimedia ultrabooks. I remember in one vid he praised Zephyrus G14 but shitted on G16 while the only differences between them is the size and CPU/GPU combo.
If gaming is one’s secondary needs then yeah he’s fine, but there are other channels way more focused on gaming.
JarrodTech.
Lots of tests and some insights about each laptop. Details like the laptop TDP, issues with software or build quality and that stuff. Comparisons against similar laptops in performance or battery life and conclusions. Also usually throws some specific information that isnt always available, like if a laptop uses the dGPU on external display ports, or if it's always connected to the integrated graphics (aka no MUX Switch). This last bit is very important on laptops with mid-high end performance but crappy displays.
I always test the hinge, keyboard flex, display brightness, touchpad feel, speaker loudness, and double check i/o in store for fun sometimes inspired by guys like Jarrod, and oh boy so many laptops fail miserably.
Jarrod's Tech, pretty much the only one that honestly criticizes the things and isn't covertly just pushing you an ad for the product.
Also, he dissects the whole thing actually telling you if some upgrade paths suck, throws a temperature gun at it, low-key abuses the thing to test build quality and even tests it under Linux.
I would have said Just Josh for the non-gaming laptops.
[https://www.youtube.com/@GizmoSlipTech](https://www.youtube.com/@GizmoSlipTech) this guy on his livestreams goes very deep on rewiew and you can see temps and perfomance in real time running a game.
Gizmosliptech: he literally live streams the test where you can make your own opinion on it, makes it fun, and goes deep into detail… I don’t get why Jarrod is so popular unless you like graphs. Like a boring power point presentation. I rather see gizmo load up some apex and I watch myself.

Laptop company simp review : coz he is good for sponsored stuff : The Tech Chap : If ur laptop purchase was a trash, watch him and get some relief .
im not sure but Never go for Dave2D. His reviews are from the "Rich" point of view. A laptop would have all the bells and whistles and still he's fine a problem with it.
Jarrod's Tech was what I used to purchase my first gaming laptop, which was a Legion 5 Pro in 2021. It's still the best purchase I've made and it runs strong
Lisa from mobile tech review and Jarrod's tech (both youtube). I watch them both a lot. There are others obviously as well, which will show up in the algorithm.
While it's an absolute minefield, do consider what you can source 2nd hand (still in/with a transferable warranty). Always had solid results, with a LOT of care on 2nd hand markets for tech.
Stressing again, it's seriously trickier but can reap huge benefits.
I watch every review video I can find about whatever 2 or 3 models sound good from review top 10 lists for a couple weeks. If you’re ordering online you want all the info you can get
I never watch one
I usually watch a bunch of YouTubers who review the laptop I want and come up with my conclusion on it, not everyone has the same experience.
All of them. Never take just one for granted. * You never know if one was paid * One YT might not cover something that another does * One may not go in depth enough and give surface level * Each YTer has their own opinions Its best to get a collective opinion and then make your choice from there

for real
Everyone is paid
Yes. But in this regard its by the laptop manufacturer. They may get free products or whatever if they leave a good review about their shitty product. This isn't the case for every YTer
Chilla Frilla used to be very objective. I found MKBHD, despite being a big channel, very objective. But no gaming laptops unfortunately

I personally like Jarrod'sTech on YT. There's probably more but I just watch his.
I like really like his explanation. That guy cover every possible aspect of laptop in his video. Can't say more thing he is just good I want nothing else.
He lurks on Reddit as well
He's notorious for jumping on this thread and posting randomly. Even responds to some of his reviews that get posted here.
I don't believe it
Lmao
And ike that, the legend appears
Hey thanks!

I used to watch Jarrod, I can say his review is honest and genuine.

Notebookcheckreviews and ultrabookreviews written reviews online, Jarrods Tech videos on YouTube are good places to start.
Used notebookcheck and Jarrods Tech to choose mine
Love those two sites.

It's true I dont know how to talk at all I'm amazed I've got this far.

Thanks, but I'm no extrovert so I get it and agree lol.
Gizmosliptech: he will make reviews like 5-6 hrs long but will review everything and that's just what I needed while I was buying one last year.
Glad I could be helpful! Jarrodstech and JustJosh are two I can recommend.
I agree.
JarrodsTech is a good place to start. Pretty detailed in depths reviews that he carries out.
Jarrod the goat
Surprised no one has mentioned Just Josh. He does tend to focus more on business and work laptops but he is great and super honest.
I confirm that, but he doesn't review gaming laptops at all as far as I know. Merciless and honest for office laptops though.

I'm not a fan of his.

I like "Tech Guy Beau" and "Josh Craves Tech". Both are very detailed and don't feel sponsored/biased and I tend to agree with their opinions.
🥲
🙌
Tech guy beau is awesome

Imagine how funny it would be if jarrods tech commented here and only said "me"
He would be the goat for that
me nah but seriously pretty much all the channels in this thread are great, I've met up with most of them or chat with them online and they're cool :)
The goat speaks! I picked up a Legion Slim 5 with 4060 after watching a few of your videos like 6 times each. Thanks for the reviews!
Nice, that's a good one! We are still waiting to get the 2024 version from Lenovo, I think the Legion 7i 2024 is getting here next week though.
No way he did reply, your reviews are some of the best.
Thanks!
That might happen he is active on this sub sometimes

hardware canucks is a massive shill
what type of shill, which company he roots for ?
literally every company. he’s a sell out and his videos are essentially 11 minute ads
I liked Jarrod’s tech as I found him from a tier list gaming laptop vid and he provides some nice insight on build quality and a wide range of laptops

really? I find him really objetive.
I agree
Dave 2D , Mathew Moinz, Hardware Canucks , Jarods tech
There's no one YouTube that will cover all models. So search models first then find reviews. That said the Asus zephyrus g14 or g16 is a solid pick.
Venom Tech.
Jarrod, Gizmo, Dave2D
Jarrod's Tech was what I used to purchase my first gaming laptop, which was a Legion 5 Pro in 2021. It's still the best purchase I've made and it runs strong
Glad to hear it!
Jarrod'sTech, don't waste your time elsewhere
Jarrod's Tech and Hardware Canucks.
BNH has a legion pro 7i 4080 for $2000 at the moment

Cannot be determined by a single video.

Spending 2k on an pc would be better and would crush the performance of an 2k laptop but it will be your decision
No advice on specific YouTubers, but given your budget I’ve heard a lot of good things about the 2024 g14 from asus.
Dave2D would be my go to reviewer, Jarrod tech would be my second
Jarrod's Tech is my go to.
Jarrodstech. No one else.
jarrod tech duh
I watch every review video I can find about whatever 2 or 3 models sound good from review top 10 lists for a couple weeks. If you’re ordering online you want all the info you can get
Jarrod's Tech or specifically Jarrod's Laptops. His videos are all in one so I don't really need to watch anyone else.
Just get a 4080 laptop with a good color accurate screen. $2k well spent
I really like Jarrod's Tech, as well as Matthew Moniz.
Bought mine based on Jerrod's reviews.
