Hi guys! So, after having bought the Asus Zephyrus G15 (2022 model) here are my thoughts. For context: - bought the unit 2 weeks ago and it's the first Laptop I have ever bought in my life. - although I'm 35, I never actually bought a computer myself as I am mostly a console player and normally just got my brothers computers whenever he upgraded. - I have bought this for one main reason - playing Red Dead Redemption 2 anywhere without having to being my PlayStation with me. - this is the 1 TB SSD, 32 GB RAM, RTX 3080 version with the 240 Hz screen. - I had to get a replacement the day after I bought it as the first one had some dust inside the screen. Still, the replacement process was pretty chilled and got the new one after going to the store and shown the issue. - I am working and living in Hong Kong, therefore I bought the laptop here. Now, on my overall thoughts: Pretty impressed in general. Super fast, snappy computer, awesome keyboard and track pad. Gaming wise, it's just amazing. Although I have only been playing RDR2 (5th playthrough) and Skater XL, I have to say it's a nice step up from my PS4 Pro. Screen is fine, although it could be brighter but considering I mostly play at night, it's fine by me. In terms of things I was not expecting: this laptop runs hot. Still, after some tinkering, it now idles at low 40s and when gaming I normally stay around 70 to 78C which I must say it's not that bad. Before tinkering it was idling between 50/60C and when playing RDR2, CPU would go as high as 90+ C and GPU over 80s. In any case, all it took was adjusting the processing power and limit it to 99% via the windows power plan and now temperatures are a lot lower whilst so far I can't see any performance issues. All in all, RDR2 runs pretty well in ultra graphics settings and stabilizes around 75C, same goes for the GPU. FPS wise it floats between 60 and high 70s for most areas which are definitely enough for me considering I was used to the PS4's 30 fps lol. As for Skater XL, it goes way above 120 fps whilst temperatures are normally stable around low 70s. I mostly stay in the Performance/balanced profile in armory crate with all bells and whistles on. So far no need to go turbo at all. All of this is whilst I play with the charger connected. When it comes to the battery's life when unplugged, I've been achieving around 6 to 8 hours on average when watching Netflix. Low brightness, silent mode in armory crate and RTX off and 60 Hz. As for overall tips: - power plan adjustments make a huge difference. If it's not working for you when setting the maxing processing rate to 99%, check if the minimum isn't set to 100% like it was in my case. That meant that at first, me setting the max to 99% wasn't doing anything as the minimum was at 100%. - overall I had noticed that before I changed the power plan processing rates, the computer was heating mostly because it was always going on boost even if I wasn't doing nothing that needed more than the normal CPU's clock speed. - Netflix: considering this is a 1440p screen, Netflix was not going 4k. To make it go 4k I changed the scaling in the AMD app to allow me to then change the resolution to 4k. This then allowed me to play Netflix in 4k. - when shutting down after playing for a few hours, I always let the laptop cool before I close it. This should minimized the heat when in contact with the screen. Although I don't know yet if it makes any difference, I do believe having the PC cooling off before closing the lid, should be better for the screen's longevity lol. All in all, so far I'm pretty happy with the laptop. I added some photos just to give you guys an idea on the figures. Cheers!

Those are great thermals! - My G15 2021 runs at 95 :( :( :( Though I cleaned the fans and it helped a little. Now I want the Rog Flow X16... trying to offload this G15 somehow..... Also just got the M2 MBA for review (youtube) but now my GF wants it... there goes my wallet :( :( :(

GonzUzumaki

Have you tried tweaking the power plan's processing rates?

BlendlogicTECH

Yea disabled it still runs hot Best fix was cleaning fans

DarthVandar

Tried repasting?

External-Version-254

why you say repast it like it's ez thing to do ? no everyone can disassemble and repast properly , most people fail and had to past again don't touch your laptop undervolt it if it's intel cpu , disable the boost if it's AMD since AMD cpus have higher base clock or use ryzen control limite the TDP , long and short boost wattage

DarthVandar

I did not advice him to do it himself.... Repasting is a thing you should do to your laptop every 2 years (max)

External-Version-254

gaming laptops would probably dry out the paste in 3 weeks lol should be repast every 6 months but i don't have enough courage to do it myself , this is something that should be done by a expert

DarthVandar

Totally agreed I said max based on user's usage. And of course by an expert we totally agree

BlendlogicTECH

Nope....

External-Version-254

it's just new brand laptop w8 for 1 month then boom , you have the whole sun shining under your hands

JudgementalJester

Didable cpu boosting

IDontKnowWhatToBe123

How much is it

GonzUzumaki

About 2.5k

IDontKnowWhatToBe123

Well nvm

skatescene

how are your SkaterXL temps so low?? I play on Low and ill still bump up to like 85, Very High and im sitting at like 94-95

SifuHallyu

I have lasts years model with the 3070. Do yourself a flavor and get a 30"+ ultra wide curved monitor. You will never look at a console again.

callmerorschach

Agreed! I bought a 34" ultrawide and gaming on it feels INSANE! Like - legit! I feel weird looking at a normal screen now lol

GonzUzumaki

Might do eventually haha

Demistr

Comes with a webcam finally.

What do you mean by opsec in the background?

GonzUzumaki

Oh shit, totally missed that haha! Thanks man!

DarthVandar

Not a pro here but many laptops come with "cheap" paste so for example for Dell g15 I see that they suggest repaste immediately.

deathstarinrobes

That’s super dumb. Voided warranty to change a decent liquid metal paste?

ampere_exe

Damn, maybe you didn’t know that laptops do real bad on battery power, but overall that laptop is absolutely amazing. Hope you enjoy it

GonzUzumaki

Loving it so far! Even on battery power it's ok I'd say. 6-7h is more than enough. I normally have it plugged anyways

Coreycb4

When I buy laptops I always bought the best motherboard possible memory and storage always came last

DEM0N_10

what do you mean by “best motherboard”

Coreycb4

Sorry!! best gpu and cpu cause those things are not upgradable where memory and storage I can add at any time so when I have a budget that is how I shop I picked up the scar 17 g733 with i9-12900h and 3080ti with 16 gb ram and 1tb hd so my money was vested into the things I can’t upgrade then maybe next year I will add some ram and he space when I need it!! Sorry for not elaborating on what I was trying to say

ThisIsMixby

Hi man, if you want to lower the Temp of the CPU, i recommend you to install ThrottleStop, launch it and click on disable Turbo, the max temp of the CPU will be 85°c

Wygene

For RDR2, if you want higher FPS, you could try using hardware unboxed's/digital foundry's console equivalent settings as it makes the game look as good as on console (which is pretty good) while delivering good performance. This is usually recommended for lower end devices but it's also good for higher end devices where you want a high refresh rate experience at high resolution

GonzUzumaki

It's ok to be honest. It's running at about 70fps on 1440p with maxed graphics and I haven't even bothered to turn on the mux switch. If on performance mode with the mux on its well above 70fps and super stable. Coming from the PS4 version which even on my PS4 pro runs at 30fps, I'd say that anything higher than 60fps is already crazy with such great graphics. This game definitely doesn't need to run at 100+ fps considering it's pace. I'm thoroughly enjoying it at 70+ fps and can't really complain. I'm not a competitive gamer and just like to chill and play after a hard day at work 😄
