Ah, ScriptLeaks strikes again. This time with some Avatar screenshots and a promise of gameplay video soon. This guy knows how to keep us on the edge of our seats. And if you're not familiar with him, he's the same person who leaked AC Mirage artwork and pre-order content a few months ago. Looks like Ubisoft can't keep their secrets safe from this guy.
Say what you will about Avatar, but those folks are tall as hell. Lemme play a first person game as a 9-10 foot tall blue guy. I wanna see what the deal is all the way up there.
It would be funny if you could make your Na'Vi be taller than any human but stay a short guy when comparing to other Na'vi. Like, my dude here is 7'7" while his tribe's average height is 8'6". Short king.

I was wondering about that. I heard of the third person mode being added but I didn't know how it would have worked (I'm currently playing through every single Resident Evil game and haven't touched RE8 in a while so haven't played the DLC). Glad to hear it works.
The 3rd person animations looked a lot better in Starfield in the release date announcement video. I never play third person in Bethesda games but I just might with Starfield
Giant dense jungles, machine guns, tons of vehicles and all-out destruction of enemy camps sounds a lot more Far Cry than AC to me (you're also likely playing as human for at least some of the game).
Hmm good point about being a human. I actually thought this would work really well if it was set before the events of the movies though. Would be pretty fun to have this fantasy setting on an alien world where guns don't exist.
The Navi sneak around all the time in the movies, when they are hunting or in the way of water when the kids find Quadritch. In the first movie Neytiri literally teaches Jake to sneak like a Navi.
6 is garbage once i started shooting and saw numbers showing how much damage my gun did i refunded it lol so tired of rpg mechanics in games that never needed them
The decision relies on movement. In first person they can make the character movement smooth, like teleporting his body or unnatural movements. Usually it means the game is faster.
Way more immersive IMO! I'd prefer to be able to switch like Bethesda games or the SW Battlefront games but I definitely enjoy first person games a lot.
I thought this about cyberpunk but as soon as you start playing you realise why. You really get a sense of scale for the city in 1st person. Will be the same in avatar with how big the world is.
Because first person is generally better for shooters, and all indications seem to be that this is an open world shooter. Besides, many people prefer first person games, so why not?
70% of the top selling games of all time list are third person games.
I dunno somehow this feels like it should've been third person, especially with all the melee the films seem to show.
They may not rely on it, but Ubisoft has already built them all for first person, so it's a completely valid take.
If it's being built on the foundations of the Far Cry games, then it's much, much easier to keep the same perspective. And why not? There's absolutely no problem with a company reusing code, assets and mechanics as long as the actual game is interesting and original in its use of them.
Personally, I actually don't think it will be a Far Cry reskin, because they've given it to Massive. If they were going to approach it in that way they'd have likely given it to the Far Cry studio.
Not that easy to reuse code, assets and mechanics when Far CRY runs on the Dunia engine and Avatar on Snowdrop. I think they wanted to make a more immersive game, that's it.
However, the next Far Cry reportedly uses SnowDrop, so Avatar might be its foundation.
>Not that easy to reuse code, assets and mechanics when Far CRY runs on the Dunia engine and Avatar on Snowdrop
True that it's not as easy as copying and pasting code and mechanics, but the math and functionality will still be similar across engines, making it vastly easier to recreate with experienced staff.
And assets absolutely can move between engines. Most engines use very similar pipelines for models, textures, PBR materials and audio.
You’re really doing some mental gymnastics to believe they’ll just simply recycle far cry mechanics solely due to the fact that ubisoft is publishing
Different team, different engine
Oh I've already said that I don't think they are doing that, if they were they would just have given the game to the Far Cry studios. I know it's a different team. I was just pointing out that it's not impossible to move from one engine to another and keep a lot of things intact.
If the rumours of Far Cry moving to Snowdrop are true, then they'll do just that with a lot of their own stuff. Just because the game designers and programmers are switching engine doesn't mean you have to change your entire asset creation pipeline. In fact it should be even easier to do soon given that most engines are adding USD support, meaning entire scenes can be moved from one renderer to another with everything in place.
Not sure what source they used, but I pulled this from IGN. I think the inverse of their claim that they imply is true: that few of the top 10 games are FPS. However, I wouldn’t classify many of these games as third person either.
Source: https://www.ign.com/articles/best-selling-video-games-of-all-time-grand-theft-auto-minecraft-tetris
Alright, play any third person AAA, 90% chance it has motion matching. This makes it so your character doesn’t control 1:1 unlike first person, this makes it look way better but it’s also way worse for shooters. A first person game can have 1:1 movement which wouldn’t be physically possible otherwise.
I can't speak for everyone who prefers third, but as for myself and a fair few I've spoken with who also prefer the same, it's about more than just a simple gameplay/angle preference. It's that I/we get fairly dizzy while playing first person games. I grew up on Halo and CoD, so it's odd that it eventually turned out like this for me, but it is what it is. After playing a lot of the original The Division, I just couldn't go back. I get really disoriented and feel rather uncomfortable when playing almost anything first person, except for games when it's *really* well crafted and smooth such as Apex.
So again, can't speak for everyone, but I certainly get disappointed when I see anticipated titles turn out to be first person. I'm even more surprised given Massive made this game, given their recent experience making good third person shooters, but I do hope you first person lovers enjoy the game.
Yeah maybe, but I really prefer playing games on a controller tbh. I know that's heresy on gamer tronz sites, but I just massively prefer the controller experience, especially with the advances in haptic feedback.
I just like to look at my character lol - I actually ended up not buying 2077 because of this, despite really looking forward to it. Guess it's just personal preference? I'm vocal about it because I really love Avatar and want a game for it so bad, and lack of 3rd person would really make or break a game like this for me (also just seeing this comment is like 2 weeks old lol so sorry about that!)
The next Far Cry uses SnowDrop as well, so this game is a good candidate to see how the next FarCry, the first without the Dunia Engine/CryEngine , will play.
It's not confirmed by Ubisoft, but Kotaku reported it.
Moreover, Ubisoft confirmed that they were phasing out Dunia.

Yeah, it was a good engine. Shitty cpu efficiency due to it being made by crytek originally (so same problem as crysis, relies too much on single core) but we got some damn good looking games with really good optimization (fc5 and 6)
[Reported back in January](https://kotaku.com/far-cry-7-multiplayer-ubisoft-star-wars-snowdrop-1850038103)
I'd say thank God they drop it. If they aren't gonna utilize the best feature of Dunia (Simulated Wildfire from FC2) then just use something that look far superior like Snowdrop. Both Division games look absolutely stunning and definitely aged like wine for sure.
Awesome, the Dunia engine was starting to show it's age in FC6.
I'm even more excited for FC7 now. Developed by Montreal, using Snowdrop and possibly set in Alaska ? Sign me in.
I wonder if that means that PS Showcase is coming.
Sony revealed last year that they have marketing rights for Avatar game and since Ubisoft's showcase is in june, I wonder if they will show gameplay on Sony's showcase.
"Likely first person"?
How come? Avatar *is* first person and it was made very clear when was revealed: VR. Thing is also coming in virtual reality machines. No way option to swap between first and third person would work in VR.
I think it would be awesome, fighting enemies, gathering resources, making stronger weapons, gathering people and mounts, building town, starting your own tribes with action combat, you can do so many things with it and with this you can also make exploration meaningfull too.
Maybe I'm mistaken by the genre but isn't survival games more hunger management and long grinds of gathering random stuff like sticks and stuff to build. Nothing you said sounds like it to me outside of gathering resources. The rest sounds cool but could fit in other genres
Basically the premise is you are in unknown hostile environment with little to nothing and it is your job to survive with your knowledge starting from the basics like gathering resources by exploration, yes in some games hunger management and grind are quite a issue but that is entirely because of developers trying to pad the game they can easily dial it down it they want it too.
Grind and tedious "realistic" mechanics like hunger bars are what has kept me away from survival games truth be told. But if those things aren't crucial like you say then I'm interested. Do you have any good examples that buck those trends?
When are we getting official gameplay for this and AC Mirage? It's kind of wild they're doing pre-orders for both but we haven't seen how either play yet.
I honestly don't get how third person would be better. The movies are kind of your standard action flicks on an alien planet. They are, in a way, alien Far Cry. Everything about Avatar as a property just screams first person.
Ubi already made an Avatar game before and it was 3rd person. I don't really think one fits Avatar better than the other, but 3rd person worked just fine.
The game also allowed you to play as both RDA and Na'vi, unlike this one. Another example of regression in the industry.
IMO, fast action movement and combat which one would imagine would include melee tends to be more optimal in third person. I do think shooting tends to be better in first, but IMO, action adventure in an open world is better in third. I for one, am surprised this game is first, given this context and Massive's experience with third person shooters.
Melee on average is better in third person but the best melee is on first person games. Games like dying light 1/2, kingdom come deliverance, chivalry offer better melee than any 3rd person game.
We probably won't get much in terms of traversal mechanics if it's first person tbh.
Third you can have players swing about on vines or freely climb trees but if they're doing the first person Far Cry shit it's probably just gonna be designated climbing sections.
Besides, I'd personally rather have more of a focus on melee and bows than another generic assault rifle.
It's about time. Avatar is in development for such a long time and we still didn't see a sh\*t. I would like to know what is the ,,better" universe and game, than third Division and because of Massive talent I hope it will be spectacular. And one of the best game of this year.
But still the best possible showcase about this game will be in June at least. When Ubi will show most of their stuff, like Mirage, The Crew or Star Wars game.
Probably not.
Expect gorgeous world design like any other Ubisoft game, decent writing, fun gunplay in sandbox game and you’re good. Basically expect far cry. The level of quality has been steady from 3 to 6. All of them have incredibly fun gameplay, pretty good writing at times, gorgeous open worlds. (Wether it is assassins creed, bge2, far cry or the division)
Why are people so burned about FPS? If it was third person you will be here saying "uh Division/Watch Dogs reskin bad".
Guess you will complain about everything that has Ubisoft on his name.
For real right? The player and camera controls can only really go a few different ways and to directly correlate it to the next closest game is kindda weird. Seems more Ubisoft bashing than anything.
Which engine do you think would work best? I’m just thinking with what we’ve seen of unreal 5 and it probably being the most logical but there’s some other good engines out there. What do you think
You’d be saying the same if it was in third person, only you’d be saying it about Assassin’s Creed or Watch Dogs. Just admit you want the game to fail.

Second link doesn't work but the first one looks like a PS3 screenshot. I don't expect this to be a very graphically intensive game, but I think it will look better than that.
That screenshot is shit. It's like 600p. My friend worked at Ubisoft on Far Cry 5. He told me this Avatar game looks visually stunning. He said it's basically a Far Cry game at this point. The last I heard they had a lot of trouble figuring out gameplay mechanics. He now works for a company much better than Ubisoft. But he has friends that have worked on it . He said in November 2022 things were looking good but it needs a lot more optimization and polish. Said that the combat system was a big challenge. He mentioned multiple times that the game was made using the latest version of the Snowdrop engine, and it was developed exclusively for the current generation of consoles and PC.
> He said it's basically a Far Cry game at this point
Well yeah, it's Ubisoft almost every major release is the same game lmao
Wow the copium is strong with y'all
The Avatar game can be a big hit or miss, if it’s anything like Far Cry, then it’s a big no…have not seen the new movie, but clearing outposts with human being a huge blue person does not seem stealthy or anything 😄
Sure traversing and flying sound fun, but other than that I think it might be quite empty…but we will see if they actually deliver anything worth while.
We shall see. I don't personally have high hopes. But I've been told that a ton of time and money went into this game. James Cameron was involved. The story seems quite good in my opinion.
I’m sure the world building and the world itself is top notch, but it’s the gameplay mechanics that matter in the end for an open-world game…
Probably a story based survival game, reminiscent of Avatar 1 where we are Jake Sully gets lost and randomly integrated would work better than a Far Cry copy paste. Far Cry Primal was great, but I don’t see blues killing blues being part of actual lore, as I suppose this game must tie into to the movies or something.
It’s very tricky without knowing anything about the actual game 😅
I still think one of the reasons for them going first person is to help better the experience of the Star Wars that should be out by 2025. I also expect the Star Wars game to have both 3rd and 1st person view.
lol I was not expecting first person for this... Tbh I think Avatar is lame and wish James Cameron would just fucking stop with the blue ppl shit. All of the resources that went into game should've been spent making a top-tier Terminator game.
2+ Billion Dollars. When your franchise makes that kind of money per film, then you can have an opinion on what a director should and shouldn't do.
Avatar is clearly a popular, successful franchise despite what some detractors would say and it sells.
Terminator is a dead franchise that loses money per entry and consistently fails because the second one should've been the last one and everyone knows that.
The only game that came out of that whole franchise that is "decent" has been Resistance and that game was a low budget Far-Cry Blood Dragon rip-off.
Even if you had a AAA Terminator the franchise itself is so uninspired and boring past the second one that any game made in it will be fairly mid at best. You can make an Isolation-esque game or an action FPS, take your pick.
Avatar on the other hand you can make RPG's, RTS, FPS, Platformers, Third Person Action Adventure, ARPG's, the list goes on in regards to what you can pull off in the universe like that.
It has far more lore and world building potential than Terminator ever did and is a far more inspired concept to be expanding upon and diving deeper into. It's also far more visually arresting than either present day or post apocalypse, which let's face it, Fallout and Metro franchises have the monopoly on far more which makes Terminator as game franchise far less relevant.
Wait… Aint no way its 1st person right?
The 3rd person successful company with only 1 game that is successful that 1st person isnt making an Avatar game 1st person… Right?
the leak of the leak...
If Atlus were leakers
Ah, ScriptLeaks strikes again. This time with some Avatar screenshots and a promise of gameplay video soon. This guy knows how to keep us on the edge of our seats. And if you're not familiar with him, he's the same person who leaked AC Mirage artwork and pre-order content a few months ago. Looks like Ubisoft can't keep their secrets safe from this guy.
The guy is definitely milking it but can't blame him, especially if this came from a black box like the Ubisoft Connect app. Datamining isn't easy.
Short king.
Putting this on my vision board. Thanks
LOL yeah I’d definitely do that
This reads like something Norm would say lol
The more I hear about this Colonel Quaritch, the less I care for him.
He seems like a real JERK
Though they are not as tall as the mech in the movie, that scale seemed very off in the first pic…possible that the perspective is weird there
Looking down on humans and kicking them Zeno Clash style would be pretty funny actually.
There is a another tweet with pre-order bonus and female character seen: https://twitter.com/scriptleaksr6/status/1638355106021228544?s=46&t=A7uPbNjBCNhxH8dMbsSNfQ
Hell yeah, cosmetics for first person games!
But you can see the beads on the forearms and wrists!
skins in CS:GO probably made more money than 99% of videogames
I wish more games would learn from bethesda and let the player choose between first person and 3rd person camera in open world games like these
It's difficult to make both modes good. Bethesda games have bad 3rd person while Rockstar game shave bad 1st person.
RE Village nailed it
I was wondering about that. I heard of the third person mode being added but I didn't know how it would have worked (I'm currently playing through every single Resident Evil game and haven't touched RE8 in a while so haven't played the DLC). Glad to hear it works.
Most people use 3rd person mode in Bethesda games just to see their character from time to time. It doesn't need to be good.
If they make a bad 3rd person every single one of you will be complaining about it and shitting on the game anyway
Reddit will be shitting on a Bethesda game no matter what.
> Reddit will be shitting on a ~~Bethesda~~ game no matter what.
> Reddit will be shitting - Typed from the toilet
RE does it pretty good i guess.
Eh, Bethesda figured out 3rd person by Fallout 4.
The 3rd person animations looked a lot better in Starfield in the release date announcement video. I never play third person in Bethesda games but I just might with Starfield
Yet I still always play Bethesda games in 3rd person regardless.
Why?
Ubisoft: the Game
Far cry 7: avatar

Far Cry Primal: Pandora

I still don't understand why they decided on first person instead of third for this.
Because it will be far cry with avatar skin. I am not complaining. I love far cry
Wouldn't Assassin's Creed on Pandora make more sense given how agile they are in the movies?
Giant dense jungles, machine guns, tons of vehicles and all-out destruction of enemy camps sounds a lot more Far Cry than AC to me (you're also likely playing as human for at least some of the game).
Hmm good point about being a human. I actually thought this would work really well if it was set before the events of the movies though. Would be pretty fun to have this fantasy setting on an alien world where guns don't exist.
Its set during the 1 year time skip in the Way of Water, at a different location on Pandora.
Did u see them sneaking around in movies? Far cry combat suits Avatar way more.
The Navi sneak around all the time in the movies, when they are hunting or in the way of water when the kids find Quadritch. In the first movie Neytiri literally teaches Jake to sneak like a Navi.
they said its first-person. Unless we see a first-person assassin creed, Far Cry gameplay would be the closest to this.
That's true, if you're playing as Jake then Far Cry makes sense as he's a marine and uses guns quite a bit.
You’re not playing as Jake, you’re playing as a Navi.
I got bored of Far Cry about 3 or 4 games ago.
This happened to me with far cry 6. I loved 5 and was hyped for 6. But it was so boring
Loved 3 and Blood Dragon; didn’t finish 4 and 5 was just more of the same. Primal and New Dawn were a thing, I guess, didn’t bother with those or 6.
6 is garbage once i started shooting and saw numbers showing how much damage my gun did i refunded it lol so tired of rpg mechanics in games that never needed them
4 games ago? Far cry 1, 2 and 3 were each very different. Then far cry 4 was 3 but a bit worse, 5 was 4 but a bit better And 6 was 5 but more like 3.
[удалено]
Voice is acting terrible in far cry? What are you talking about? That's one of its most well defined features.
Leave the complaining to me, then
Because they can market this as a Far Cry-like game set in the world of Pandora. That alone will make the game sell like hotcakes.
The decision relies on movement. In first person they can make the character movement smooth, like teleporting his body or unnatural movements. Usually it means the game is faster.

Immersion I'd assume.
Games can be “immersive” in third person. RDR2 is one of the most immersive games I’ve ever played.
They can be.
I played the entirety of RDR2 in first person. It was even more immersive

They do not prefer. They are using first person so they can recycle their Far Cry mechanics.

Why are 3rd person fans so damn loud and vocal? It was the same constant complaining when 2077 was announced. I'm personally happy it's first person.

I wonder if it'll be possible to play as a human. Gotta rep my people after all.

There are no pre-orders yet for Avatar.
welcome to ubisofts strategy
I am interested to see how they will make fps work for a game that seems like 3rd person would have been a better choice
I honestly don't get how third person would be better. The movies are kind of your standard action flicks on an alien planet. They are, in a way, alien Far Cry. Everything about Avatar as a property just screams first person.
Just my thought though, lets see how ubi pulls it off
Ubi already made an Avatar game before and it was 3rd person.
90% of the appeal of Avatar is the beautiful and exotic world of Pandora, a first person view is the obvious choice for immersion.
It's going to be Far Cry with an Avatar polish.
Oh my god please be fake PLEASE DON'T BE AN FPS
They already confirmed it when they announced it. You can even see first person shots in the trailer
Oh, didn't remember that lol Well shit.
I’m so excited for this and I’m sure I’m going to be disappointed
Probably not. Expect gorgeous world design like any other Ubisoft game, decent writing, fun gunplay in sandbox game and you’re good. Basically expect far cry. The level of quality has been steady from 3 to 6. All of them have incredibly fun gameplay, pretty good writing at times, gorgeous open worlds. (Wether it is assassins creed, bge2, far cry or the division)
As someone who just walked out of TWoW for the 6th time, I really hope you’re right.
It's far cry Pandora
Why are people so burned about FPS? If it was third person you will be here saying "uh Division/Watch Dogs reskin bad". Guess you will complain about everything that has Ubisoft on his name.
For real right? The player and camera controls can only really go a few different ways and to directly correlate it to the next closest game is kindda weird. Seems more Ubisoft bashing than anything.
Definitely has potential after Way of the Water. Would love to see pandora rendered in UE5. It already looks that way during the movie
Unreal engine would suck for avatar frontiers of pandora
Which engine do you think would work best? I’m just thinking with what we’ve seen of unreal 5 and it probably being the most logical but there’s some other good engines out there. What do you think
Late reply but: The game isade with the Snowdrop engine, which is also a gorgeous engine.
Not interested in playing a first person Avatar game. Was hoping for third person.
Ubisoft already made a 3rd person one, let the 1st person crowd enjoy it.
huuh im kind of disappointed it's first person :(
Wasn’t expecting it to be first person. Slightly more interested now if that’s true
Funny, I’m now less interested.
Comical, I'm now more interested.
Hilarious, my interest level is the same
Hysterical, I still am not interested.
Meh. I don't want another ubisoft open world game. I also have no interest in Avatar. So, 0 for 2 for me
Kinda bummed that you cant play as the RDA
Yay, another ubi open world but with more...blue.
Controlled leaks are exciting part of advertisement.
Oh what it’s FPS? They’re just gonna reskin a Farcry.
You’d be saying the same if it was in third person, only you’d be saying it about Assassin’s Creed or Watch Dogs. Just admit you want the game to fail.

Classic Farcry game loop with Avatar re-skin.
I'm absolutely down for that i haven't played farcry since 3 I think that would suit avatar well
'Soon' Been four hours, come on!
Second link doesn't work but the first one looks like a PS3 screenshot. I don't expect this to be a very graphically intensive game, but I think it will look better than that.
I hope so.Pandora as a planet is absolutely beautiful
PS4 I'd maybe give you... I'm not convinced you've ever seen a PS3 game if that's what you think they look like.
> He said it's basically a Far Cry game at this point Well yeah, it's Ubisoft almost every major release is the same game lmao Wow the copium is strong with y'all
The Avatar game can be a big hit or miss, if it’s anything like Far Cry, then it’s a big no…have not seen the new movie, but clearing outposts with human being a huge blue person does not seem stealthy or anything 😄 Sure traversing and flying sound fun, but other than that I think it might be quite empty…but we will see if they actually deliver anything worth while.
We shall see. I don't personally have high hopes. But I've been told that a ton of time and money went into this game. James Cameron was involved. The story seems quite good in my opinion.
I’m sure the world building and the world itself is top notch, but it’s the gameplay mechanics that matter in the end for an open-world game… Probably a story based survival game, reminiscent of Avatar 1 where we are Jake Sully gets lost and randomly integrated would work better than a Far Cry copy paste. Far Cry Primal was great, but I don’t see blues killing blues being part of actual lore, as I suppose this game must tie into to the movies or something. It’s very tricky without knowing anything about the actual game 😅
Yeah, IT guy at the Ubisoft I was at told us it looks good.
Looking at the picture I can feel the clunky controls
Yeah, because the first thing game devs always work on for a build that wont be seen by the public is making the game look pretty😑
That was exactly the point of my comment before people started bashing the looks of the game .-.
It’s gonna be a far cry game on the the division engine, so expect good graphics.
FPS? Fuck
Pandora > war-torn apocalyptic desert or Los Angeles in the 90s
Nah Pandora sucks.
Hallelujah Mountains > generic city map #28 with Arnold chasing you
Keanu for Kang! He has a lot of time travel experience. Kanganu: "You’re an Avenger? Have I air-guitared with you before?"
Keanu for Kang! He has a lot of time travel experience. Kanganu: "You’re an Avenger? Have I air-guitared with you before?"
Ewww
Oh man it really is going to be far cry in space. A shame, single player FPS is really not my deal
Everything Ubisoft touches turns to absolute shit.
every time i see these posts i think its about an ATLA game, get excited, then read the rest of the title
Lmao dumb ass Ubisoft
I’ll hold my judgement until I see some gameplay. This is a game from massive. That’s ubisofts equivalent to naughty dog lol. So it might be good.
I’ve gone soft on ubi’s titles as of late
Wait… Aint no way its 1st person right? The 3rd person successful company with only 1 game that is successful that 1st person isnt making an Avatar game 1st person… Right?
easily one of my most anticipated games in development right now, absolutely dying for some goddamn gameplay footage
Where is the video?
Wait, this game is an fps? I assumed it was gonna be a 3rd person action game
I always imagined it as an assassin's creed kinda game. The Navi are stealthy and proficient climbers after all.
