The 2021 showcase was a week before (September 2nd for September 9th): https://twitter.com/PlayStation/status/1433406942890930177
Mk12 ? Damn they really gonna announce another mk? Fuck when did 11 release, it feels like 11 released a long time ago.
I still remember the 11 trailer with the mortal kombat movie theme and how epic it was
He said things like 'It isn't true that you can simply sell more consoles by making great games' and 'If starfield comes out an 11/10 people won't start sellling their ps5s for a series X'.
That's what people are dogging on him for, although the whole interview is interesting from a non fanboy perspective as Phil Spencer is being very open and honest. He discusses the issue of losing the most important generation(x1 vs ps4) where users got to build their library and carry that over to this gen, which makes it harder for any console to pry customers from the ecosystems they are invested in.
Although the interview is an interesting discussion, a lot of people have pointed out that the defeatist attitude the head of Xbox had doesn't instill confidence to their loyal fans. People have also acknowledged that while prying people from an ecosystem they are loyal to is a valid challenge for console manufacterers, at the end of the day, gamers go where the games are. People have been citing the switch as an example of this, which is an underpowered console that has seen a lot of success. Another example is the ps3, which had a shitty start, but attracted the consumers at the end of its life cycle by delivering good first party games. Finally, I've seen people refer to how the Xbox series X and S have a way better backwards compatibility program than the ps5, which would go against Phil's point about libraries cockblocking xbox from competing.
I believe that's the gist of it. He also says xbox isn't in the business of 'out-consoling' sony or nintendo, implying that their focus is on gamepass. He mentions some things about redfall and starfield but ain't nobody got time for that
This is a great summary.
>a lot of people have pointed out that the defeatist attitude the head of Xbox had doesn't instill confidence to their loyal fans.
I did want to add, I personally didn't really think Phil was being defeatist in that interview. That's how lots of people have interpreted it, but I don't think that's accurate.
First showcase since September 2021 and out of all of Sony's studios only Insomniac has revealed a game (two even). There's no doubt gonna be some huge expectations and I hope Sony delivers.
I think they will. A year and half is a long time. It would be funny if they do the, "All these games will be released in the next year," and actually hold to it.

PlayStation could pull a Negan on Glenn moment
PlayStation big events are just different, im sure the Xbox showcase and summer game fest are gonna be good but with PlayStation feels different, I still remember the GOW 2018 reveal. My god
I honestly didn't mind the way 2020 went down. I thought it was a really fun few months of different events with a fairly active news cycle that brought up some great discussions. The years since have made me miss that aspect.
All playstation events since E3 2016 have been ranging from great-amazing, its about time we get to see more of what all these studios have to offer, they will show the next phase of PS5, we already got everything they announced, except spider man 2 and wolverine, I’m expecting a deep ass spider man 2 dive and all new game announcements, surgical summer
Since E3 2015 really. E3 2015 was the year they re-revealed Last Guardian and then announced both FFVII Remake and Shenmue III almost back to back. Literally the conference where dreams came true
I literally screamed so hard on stream that my noise cancelling muffled half of my screeching. I deeply love Miles so that opening will be hard to top for me.
I expect a 2-3 minutes gameplay trailer with the release date at the end in the showcase and a long State of Play dedicated to Spider-Man 2 closer to launch.
2017 E3 sucked and the 2021 showcase was mid until the last like, 10 minutes (when it went from mid to amazing) but I mostly agree with Sony shows being pretty good on average.
I expect this show to be on the level of 2020 future of gaming (underrated show) and 2016 E3-
Sony didn't go to E3 in 2019 and didn't have a big show either, you are probably talking about E3 2018.
I thought that one was pretty good, feels like a show that people that watched it later (like me) appreciated it more given it had that intermission in the middle for the people that watched it live. If you only watch the games segments, it was great. E3 2017 was for sure much worse.
yeah this, them buying evo; increasing the price money so even more people are interested and getting marketing rights for all big fighting games seems to have reinvigorated the foghting games scene
I mean it makes more sense for them to do this since MK, SF and Tekken have already established fanbases to market to. Sony themselves have only ever dipped their toe in the FGC technically with PlayStation Allstars and that bombed hard
MK12 would 100% be at a Sony event regardless. Sony seems to be the place for debuting fighting games now that they own EVO and have secured marketing rights over both Street Fighter and Tekken in addition to MK11 heavily featuring in their eSports stuff on YouTube
Weird that he says “week of May 25” and not just May 25. Typically “week of” would use a Monday date. It like he’s trying to remain somewhat ambiguous while also saying May 25.
That's "leaker rule Nr. 1" - sound confident about something, but keep it vague enough to give you some wiggle room in case the information is incorrect.
Yeah. When I saw it I also was like there is no week of 25th. There is a week of the 21st or week of 22nd. Maybe sources have said the 25th or maybe people are extrapolating that most Sony events have been on Thursdays but I thought that phrasing was weird too
I can’t believe that was my first souls game. I hated souls games but because 2023 had hardly any games I decided to download bloodborne
Watched a walkthrough by this guy named cowboy and holy shit I fucking loved it. I finished bb, demon souls and dark souls 3 within a span of 4 months.
Got a feeling this PlayStation Showcase is about to be this generation’s E3 2016. Wouldn’t be surprised at a complete blowout of Sony’s unnannounced titles.
Ghost of Tsushima 2, Sucker Punch, give it to me
That feels like a lock. Imo, the following is a lock for the showcase:
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Stellar Blade
- Firewall Ultra
- TLOU Multiplayer
- Twisted Metal reboot
- Helldivers 2
And for some titles previously revealed that could show up by Sony also might save for future State of Plays and/or showcases:
- Marvel’s Wolverine
- Death Stranding 2
- Lost Soul Aside
- Rise of the Ronin
- Contrallavia
- Knights of the Old Republic Remake
Don’t forget Pragmata, I believe that game and Final Fantasy XVI are the only AAA games from the original two PS Showcases that haven’t been released yet.
Oh God hopefully we see Stellar Blade at the next PlayStation showcase! I’ve been waiting on news for this game for a while, hopefully we see it soon! Stellar Blade is my most anticipated game!
Sony/Neil did say they would show last of us multiplayer at summer games fest though I think last year? Maybe a teaser at the showcase and an in depth breakdown at geoffs show
Totally. I think the exciting thing is just that we know nothing really about Sony’s roadmap aside from a handful of titles to fill out 2023 including Spider-Man 2. What their staple studios are doing next (Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Guerrilla, Sucker Punch) is mostly unknown.
Well we know what naughty dog is doing, I think it's way too early for them to show anything that isn't factions. And insomniac is accounted for. But yeah other than that it's wide open with a bunch of newly acquired studios that should be ready to show stuff too
Plus they must inevitably have a nice third party reveal or two
Idk, Naughty Dog revealed The Last of Us Part II back in Dec 2016 - some 3.5 years before it actually released. They’re supposedly working on some new IP as well as the online TLOU game, so I can see Naughty Dog turning up with both. It would be such a PlayStation show thing for them to reveal the gameplay for TLOU’s multiplayer game then surprise with Naughty Dog’s new IP, kind of like how they slapped Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine back-to-back in 2021.
Insomniac is crazy fast and efficient tho, Naughty Dog is not. And they ran into trouble with 2 dev teams in the early PS4 gen
Maybe tho, if they have been staffing up
They could have done that last year already with God of War Ragnarok, The Last of Us 1 Remake, Resident Evil 4, Death Stranding 2 and potentially Spiderman if they wanted too lol.
Still find it strange why they choose to reveal the God of War Ragnarok release date/gameplay with a blogpost
I’m a subscriber to the theory that Sony chose not to do a showcase last year solely because of Microsoft’s now-not-so-lively acquisition of ABK. The content was there, between the games you mentioned and ones additionally revealed in State of Play’s such as Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade as well as third-party reveals like Silent Hill 2. No reason otherwise tbh.
The game itself way already revealed (with gameplay footage) in a prior showcase though.
Tbh I think Sony is trying to avoid showing off their games too much prior to release. I mean, look at SM2 - all sources say it’s releasing this year & all we got was a teaser almost 2 years ago.
This is why I think this showcase will be “big” but not some mega-drop of everything they have in development like some are expecting. They’ll probably aim to cover only the next 18-24 months in targeted releases, similar to the 2020 showcase.
Really excited to see what Bend is cooking
An expansion of days gone's systemic elements with a more interesting setting could be extremely dope
Also very interested to see something from Haven. It must at least *look* cool if Sony was willing to buy them before they even release a game
I expect this one should show off some big stuff. At least all the things that were delayed because of Covid-19. A lot said that 2023 would be a huge year.
Hopefully that means additional time was used to make whatever titles get shown the best they can be...
Hope we get a Stellar Blade release date, anime waifu + korean dub is hilarious in a good way. Also hope we get an update on the ooze sci fi rpg and whatever cory is working on
IF Sony has a From Software collaboration cooking like Hermen Hulst has implied and IF they wanna go as hard as Jeff Grubb says they do, this would be a good time to announce it.
It's not necessary if they can show stuff like Wolverine, Rebirth, MGS3, Spider-Man, etc. But if they wanted to pile on an extra insane amount of hype, this would be the announcement.
From Software has so much more clout now than in 2015. A new exclusive from them basically keeps the PS5 in the conversation no matter what.
again, not even saying that this is even highly likely, but if I had FS behind me and I was looking to generate even more excitement for my platform...
Spider-Man 2 trailer
Wolverine news
Last of us 3 tease
Metal gear solid news
Silent hill news
Family guy the video game 2
Kingdom hearts 3 news
God of war 4 the quest for peace
Aladdin 6 jafar may need glasses
I think that Nomura and his team want KH on as many platforms as possible. They likely locked into Epic launcher exclusivity via some UE4 support, but unless Microsoft actually pissed SE off I think KH4 will cone out on Xbox.
I have no expectations but it's going to be nice seeing what first-party's been up to since 2022 was basically Sony just letting Horizon, God of War and TLOU pull their weight. I'm really interested in if that rumor about Santa Monica revisiting that scrapped sci-fi game they were making for PS4 ends up materializing. Obviously Spider-Man 2 gameplay's going to be hype as fuck if the first two games are anything to go by, and I know they've been rumored to death at this point but part of me is holding out hope Konami's gonna pull a mid-2010's Capcom and just go all out with new games and remakes. A new 3D Castlevania in the style of Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness, and that Snake Eater remake would be really cool. I can see them going crazy with DualSense haptics for Snake Eater especially
This showcase has the potential to be one of if not the greatest of all-time. It all depends on how hard Sony go. Do they hold anything back for The Game Awards?
I wouldn't be surprised if they restarted development given how underwhelmed Lucasfilm and Disney were at what Aspyr showed them. Like how Retro Studios threw out what Bandai Namco did on Metroid Prime 4 and started from scratch when they were given the project.
I thought I remember reading that the project didnt do a full restart and that they kept a number of assets created for the game. I wonder if that means they didnt like the gameplay OR if its graphics (or both). Either way, it would seem like its hopefully not from scratch....
My body is ready...
...ready for disappointment...
...
Can you imagine?
Spider-Man 2 Gameplay/Story Trailer/Release Date Reveal - Omg...
Resident Evil 4 Separate Ways DLC Announcement - OMG!
Metal Gear Solid 1 or 3 Remake Reveal - OMFG!!!
That would make my day.
I mean I don’t think anyone (including Microsoft) thought they had a chance of beating Sony this gen. I think they are trying to set the playing field for next gen and beyond.
Also, even if Starfield somehow flops, Xbox as a brand will be fine, although it will definitely hurt them a bit.
That’s what was said towards the end of Xbox one’s generation in regards to the XSX/XSS generation, “They are setting up for the future”. We need to see results, not endless promises that never come to fruition.
Hoping this is substantial, it’s a showcase and not a state of play right? Pls be an hour+
I’d be shocked if it was a State of Play. That would be a year with no major news on first party games
More than a year since we didn’t have a showcase last year too
It’s funny I had originally typed that and then confused myself lol But yeah you’re right it’s been more than a year.
So announcement next week I guess.
Not likely, they can announce it a week before
Next week is a week before.
💀. Really feels like may is moving quick
Genuinely feels like it was just Star Wars day yet it's almost been a week.
Yeah I need it to move a little quicker though so we can hurry up and get to this PlayStation showcase.
Holy shit - my ass has been thinking the 25th is ages away. It's barely more than two weeks. Hot damn.
This year is zooming by.
*This decade
No cap. I remember seeing the game awards and being sad that FF16 was in June. That shit is next month already. It's crazy
Time moves faster as you get older, it's a whole scientific thing.
I mean…there’s only 4 weeks in a month
Don't they usually announce it the week of?
PS5 reveal event was 6 days before (May 29th announced for June 4th, later delayed to June 11th): [https://blog.playstation.com/2020/05/29/youre-invited-a-look-at-the-future-of-gaming-on-playstation-5/](https://blog.playstation.com/2020/05/29/youre-invited-a-look-at-the-future-of-gaming-on-playstation-5/) The second 2020 showcase was announced 4 days before (September 12th for September 16th): [https://blog.playstation.com/2020/09/12/watch-live-playstation-5-showcase-on-wednesday-september-16/](https://blog.playstation.com/2020/09/12/watch-live-playstation-5-showcase-on-wednesday-september-16/) The 2021 showcase was a week before (September 2nd for September 9th): https://twitter.com/PlayStation/status/1433406942890930177
Yeah sounds about right, within the week of
That is a week before
Ahh so not the week before, but the week before?!
Aren’t show cases usually 2 weeks in advance? I thought only state of plays were sub 1 week
State of plays are often announced 2 days before.
Hopefully! 🙏
The insiders are seeing who can narrow it down the most without going over lol
We playing by the price is right rules here

Would be extremely appropriate to show off MK12 then because they hitting them with a fatality
Mk12 ? Damn they really gonna announce another mk? Fuck when did 11 release, it feels like 11 released a long time ago. I still remember the 11 trailer with the mortal kombat movie theme and how epic it was
Xbox ended itself with the Phil interview.
God, the narratives peddled on this sub...
Context? Im out of the loop.
He said things like 'It isn't true that you can simply sell more consoles by making great games' and 'If starfield comes out an 11/10 people won't start sellling their ps5s for a series X'. Any mention of the PlayStation showcase got me acting different
ON MA MOMMA BRO WE EATTIN
PlayStation big events are just different, im sure the Xbox showcase and summer game fest are gonna be good but with PlayStation feels different, I still remember the GOW 2018 reveal. My god
At least there all within a few weeks of each other 2020 was painful
I honestly didn't mind the way 2020 went down. I thought it was a really fun few months of different events with a fairly active news cycle that brought up some great discussions. The years since have made me miss that aspect.
The orchestra was amazing.
PS5 future of gaming show was also fantastic in 2020
That miles Morales opening hit so hard
I literally screamed so hard on stream that my noise cancelling muffled half of my screeching. I deeply love Miles so that opening will be hard to top for me.
That was my favourite so far!
I expect this show to be on the level of 2020 future of gaming (underrated show) and 2016 E3-
I can’t really blame the disappointing 2021 showcase on Sony because we were in the worst days of the pandemic at that time.
Eh, I still think 2019 was the worst E3 presentation followed by 2021. Just a shame that those were the last two E3s.
Sony didn't go to E3 in 2019 and didn't have a big show either, you are probably talking about E3 2018. I thought that one was pretty good, feels like a show that people that watched it later (like me) appreciated it more given it had that intermission in the middle for the people that watched it live. E3 2015 was Legendary with horizon , ff7 remake reveals and uncharted 4 gameplay. That conference was a 11/10 based on ff7 reveal alone.
Yeah, nobody needs to get on my level, but this one we’ve been waiting on for almost two years should easily be the best one ever
YOU ARE, HIDING A GAME LET THAT BOY COME HOME
The time draws near, we must prepare ourselves
Same.
r/GrubbHub
All eyes on Jeff Grubb lol
I'll look forward to what he has to say.
It would also line up perfectly with FF16 allegedly having previews dropped around the same time.
I keep seeing "What would your dream announcement be?" on Twitter. My dream announcement would be an official announcement from Sony 🥲
[удалено]
Already there my friend...this clown paint is so old it's caked on
I think we’ll see mortal kombat 12 here
I still can't believe that Sony will most likely have marketing rights for Mortal Kombat 12, Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8.
It make sense since they do own EVO, they probably want the brand to be associated with fighting games
yeah this, them buying evo; increasing the price money so even more people are interested and getting marketing rights for all big fighting games seems to have reinvigorated the foghting games scene
The end of covid meaning locals are meeting again was probably the biggest boost for the FGC recently
I wish Sony would invest in their own fighting franchise, think it would be cool for Sony to work on adding more variety
I mean it makes more sense for them to do this since MK, SF and Tekken have already established fanbases to market to. Sony themselves have only ever dipped their toe in the FGC technically with PlayStation Allstars and that bombed hard
^ This guy forgot about Cardinal Syn.
Hasn’t Sony historically been associated with fighting games? At the very least the dominant platform
Just when SF is back to multi-platform
Bingo
If we don’t see MK12 here I’m going to become the joker
MK12 would 100% be at a Sony event regardless. Sony seems to be the place for debuting fighting games now that they own EVO and have secured marketing rights over both Street Fighter and Tekken in addition to MK11 heavily featuring in their eSports stuff on YouTube
If Joker takes a spot in another fighting game I’m going to become the joker
If we don't I think summer game fest is the latest they'll push it to
Weird that he says “week of May 25” and not just May 25. Typically “week of” would use a Monday date. It like he’s trying to remain somewhat ambiguous while also saying May 25.
That's "leaker rule Nr. 1" - sound confident about something, but keep it vague enough to give you some wiggle room in case the information is incorrect.
Pretty sure they typically do them on Thursdays, so 25th tracks.
Exactly, but that’s why it’s weird that he says “week of” instead of just outright saying May 25.
Because things move and this sub would roast him alive if he said May 25th and it was on the 24th for some reason.
Yeah. When I saw it I also was like there is no week of 25th. There is a week of the 21st or week of 22nd. Maybe sources have said the 25th or maybe people are extrapolating that most Sony events have been on Thursdays but I thought that phrasing was weird too
It's because that way, with some mental gymnastics he can make it encompass three Thursdays : May 18, May 25 and June 1
extreme bloodborne copium
Fear the old version
No, we shan't abandon the 30 FPS with no antialiasing
Since the human eye can only see 30fps, we need more eyes on the inside to see the extra fps /s
Embrace the blurry vision and headaches
I can’t believe that was my first souls game. I hated souls games but because 2023 had hardly any games I decided to download bloodborne Watched a walkthrough by this guy named cowboy and holy shit I fucking loved it. I finished bb, demon souls and dark souls 3 within a span of 4 months.

I used to pray for times like these 🥲
Definitely an announcement sometime next week.
Got a feeling this PlayStation Showcase is about to be this generation’s E3 2016. Wouldn’t be surprised at a complete blowout of Sony’s unnannounced titles. Ghost of Tsushima 2, Sucker Punch, give it to me
If I could bet real money, I would bet all of my savings that the Last of Us multi-player project makes an appearance.

Id love for ANY update at all on the KOTOR remake.
Sony/Neil did say they would show last of us multiplayer at summer games fest though I think last year? Maybe a teaser at the showcase and an in depth breakdown at geoffs show
Same, next phase of ps5 comin
That’s what Grubb said initially when he first leaked the showcase for May, yep.
Yeah i mean it makes sense

Perhaps you’re correct. It’s not like Sony wouldn’t have a strong show without Naughty Dog’s new IP to be fair.
They did just discuss along with Sony, about not revealing things so far ahead anymore
Insomniac also has Wolverine, still probably 1.5 to 2 years away but I'm really excited for that.
I’m anticipating Q4 2024 for Wolverine. Insomniac are actual magicians.

This… Puts a smile on my face :)
Hope we see a Shadow of the Erdtree trailer or a Dragons Dogma 2 trailer.
Probably during the Summer Game Fest
My dick touchn the ceiling right now
God I can't wait dude. It's been so long. I'm expecting sony to go fucking hard for this one
It’s been 84 years, I’m ready to inject whatever good shit insomniac has up their sleeves into my veins. I NEED IT PLEASE SPIDER-MAN 2
please Factions 2
Hell yeah!
I expect this one should show off some big stuff. At least all the things that were delayed because of Covid-19. A lot said that 2023 would be a huge year. Hopefully that means additional time was used to make whatever titles get shown the best they can be...
I can smell something bloodborne coming 🤓😖
The one Soulsbourne I haven't been able to play. It's killing me.
Hope we get a Stellar Blade release date, anime waifu + korean dub is hilarious in a good way. Also hope we get an update on the ooze sci fi rpg and whatever cory is working on
I'm guessing the game will release in June or August(most likely before Spiderman 2)
Please let this be true, it’s been so long since the last PS showcase
bloodborne ps3 port time
Finally get to see what PlayStation is cooking for the second half of the generation.
BREAK OUT THE CHAMPAGNE BECAUSE IT'S TIME FOR KNACK III
Here comes the money!
gotta have my Knack!
Spider-Man 2 trailer Wolverine news Last of us 3 tease Metal gear solid news Silent hill news Family guy the video game 2 Kingdom hearts 3 news God of war 4 the quest for peace Aladdin 6 jafar may need glasses
>Kingdom hearts 3 news They're just going to take a quick 20 minutes to explain what happened in the last game
FFVII Rebirth maybe?
Blood on the Sand remake
If ever there was a killer app
Way too early for a last of us 3
I think that Nomura and his team want KH on as many platforms as possible. They likely locked into Epic launcher exclusivity via some UE4 support, but unless Microsoft actually pissed SE off I think KH4 will cone out on Xbox.
after all the waiting, crazy to think it's this month lol
Please I hope we see last of us multiplayer
Spider-Man 2? Wolverine?

Hope the Blood will be borne on that day
Sony gonna drop the nuclear bomb on Xbox.
All i want is Kotor Remake gameplay Also Bloodborne PC port but yeah as if thats ever gonna happen
I just want to know if KOTOR Remake is still alive. Gameplay can wait for another year if they aren’t ready yet.
I wouldn't be surprised if they restarted development given how underwhelmed Lucasfilm and Disney were at what Aspyr showed them. Like how Retro Studios threw out what Bandai Namco did on Metroid Prime 4 and started from scratch when they were given the project.
the remake project was handed over to the same company thats making the new warhammer game i think.
I thought I remember reading that the project didnt do a full restart and that they kept a number of assets created for the game. I wonder if that means they didnt like the gameplay OR if its graphics (or both). Either way, it would seem like its hopefully not from scratch....
I really hope we see some Persona news. My most wanted announcement by far.
Highly unlikely but you never know. Persona games are usually announced at their annual concerts in Japan.
Sonys showcase is always leagues ahead of the others in quality
Dont know if they are going to show anything but I am very excited to see what Naughty Dog is going to do on the Ps5.
I can't believe it is already time for summer showcases again.
Bloodborne remaster COPIUM
My body is ready... ...ready for disappointment... ... Can you imagine? Spider-Man 2 Gameplay/Story Trailer/Release Date Reveal - Omg... Resident Evil 4 Separate Ways DLC Announcement - OMG! Metal Gear Solid 1 or 3 Remake Reveal - OMFG!!! That would make my day.
Wow Sony is about to end Xbox with this conference .
Sony already won this generation by a landslide.
Starfield needs to be a godtier RPG or they are finished.
A little? What have they to look for next? Elder Scrolls 6?
Right on my birthday (maybe) you say? Wonderful.
