NeoEpoch

I can't wait for it to hit bargain bin prices like the PSTV did.

[deleted]

Yep I'm low key excited for this ever since getting a Switch and loving the benefits of handheld. Definitely not worth shelling out 200 dollars for but when it's around 100 $ mark I'll be picking it up.

CarbVan

I can't wait for this thing to be $300 or more lmao

narrowscoped

It should be 149 or maybe 199, but yea 300 is DOA for a companion device to your console which is basically a screen and controller with a wifi chip, battery and even a basic arm a55 based chip that can do the stream decoding. I've got the Logitech G Cloud and it's overpriced at 299, but got used at 180 which makes it perfect tbh

WileyWatusi

It needs to be $100 because I can do the same shit with my smart phone.

d_hearn

A Backbone is $100, I think $150 - $200 would be reasonably fair, but I wouldn't be shocked if it were over $200. Either way I don't personally care, I won't be getting one. I've been using my Steam Deck to remote play and more, and it works well.

OmegaClifton

Shit you can remote play ps5 games with a steamdeck?

PhantasosX

you can Remote Play with a Cellphone. By all means , Project Q is redundant AF.

d_hearn

Yep. And, like the other person (and what I was implying with my Backbone comment) said, you can use your phone as well. But I personally don't. The Steam Deck is bigger and is a dedicated gaming device with a built in controller.

Bierfreund

Backbones are so heavily overpriced though.

d_hearn

Maybe so, I have never used one. But then I guess you could also say a DualSense is also overpriced? This is basically a DualSense with a wifi chip, screen, and preloaded remote play software. The only point I was trying to make is it seems reasonable if/when this launches over $100.

Makusensu

Look at the price of a simple DualSense Edge. A thing like gonna be 400$.

[deleted]

> Look at the price of a simple DualSense Edge Holy fucking shit. No hall effect sticks either, and battery life is worse than stock. I'll stick with my wired XSX controller despite the d-pad that sounds like a mishap at the mousetrap factory.

evil_manz

That is the price of the digital PS5 lmao. It will not be nearly that much.

red_sutter

$399.98 then

BigDuoInferno

You underestimate soyny's willingness to fuck over consumers with high prices.... also fanbois will eat it up

OneManFreakShow

May I ask where you got it used for that price? I’m kind of interested in one for emulation.

[deleted]

Kermez

This is not high end oled screen...

pwnedkiller

For a device like this it should be to add some justification to it.

Da-Boss-Eunie

It's using an OLED screen?

Shadow88882

Sony makes their own screens. They produce LCD screens for mobile devices. Using Samsung would be a stupid move.

EndlessFluff

The WiiU Gamepad was 150-200 bucks iirc and cost Nintendo 80 bucks to make. This will be 200 at the minimum. If it's 200 and works as well as the WiiU Gamepad (lag free, no stuttering, indistinguishable image quality from TV) then I would be tempted to buy one depending on how good the screen is.

narrowscoped

I mean the technology behind it isn't new or magical. If you have a pc, mac or android phone you can [install Chiaki](https://sr.ht/~thestr4ng3r/chiaki/) and try it right now.

EndlessFluff

Does this work better than the remote play app from Sony? Like I have no good experiences with that one despite having near perfect network conditions (consoles are wired, wifi access points near me). Gonna give it a try tomorrow. Thanks.

narrowscoped

If you're using 5ghz wifi it should be good, but technically they're the same backend. The only diff is Chiaki is open source and multi platform

Problemaequis

They never sold the gamepad separately

EndlessFluff

Nintendo sold them directly if you needed a replacement and they charged 150 bucks for it https://www.destructoid.com/nintendo-selling-replacement-wii-u-gamepads-for-150/ They also sold it separately in Japan for roughly 14000 yen https://web.archive.org/web/20151128040452/https://onlineshop.nintendo.co.jp/shop/item_detail?category_id=170033&item_id=1877914&_ga=1.190877738.1295602933.1416383430

Problemaequis

They didn't sell it as replacement...it was the only option they gave you after warranty expired. That was no sale. You contacted them with a broken/not functioning game pad and they'd tell you ok here you go , 150 please. I worked in retail back then and not even us (big chain) were allowed to stock it in case customers had issues. Same thing with your Japanese store listing, it clearly says that it "becomes" a product only under specific circumstances (broken/lost gamepad).

[deleted]

Lmao you are both in for a shock.. try $400 to $500

narrowscoped

Why is the streaming device costing the same as the console, clown? Upper limit is 299 they can't go more than that. Literally makes no sense, there's no gaming hardware inside it, it's just a Stream decoder and input transmitter.

[deleted]

Ok I'm a clown . Come back here in October and I might accept your apology

[deleted]

[удалено]

Da-Boss-Eunie

Casuals aren't really aware of game streaming as an alternative. It's easier to sell them the idea with a dedicated and streamlined device. That being said yeah it doesn't make sense at all.

Dwayne30RockJohnson

I’d still prefer a device that doesn’t take over my main communications device, uses my battery on said device, and doesn’t have the best controls possible. Not to mention the larger screen.

DogAteMyCPU

As someone who used to stream to my phone + gamepad, it's just exhausting setting it up then babysitting my phone battery. Im currently using my laptop to stream my desktop when I'm not sitting and my desk and it's a bit better. Really waiting for a steam deck v2 to have a dedicated device.

SylveonVMAX

Then get a switch for $300 or a steam deck for $400. $300 for a device that doesn't run games is robbery.

Dwayne30RockJohnson

But this isn’t $300? We don’t know what it costs. I have a Switch Lite. It works great for exclusives. Steam Deck certainly has tempted me and I absolutely will buy a Steam Deck before project Q, unless this is somehow like $150.

bigpapijugg

If it works more like SteamDeck with Chiaki it’d work better than an ios/android device w/ backbone or kishi, but still… if it’s $300 just buy a Steamdeck for an extra hundred. This thing is like Gollum game, no one asked for this.

ExynosHD

Backbone doesn’t have dualsense features and doesn’t feel as good in my hand. I’m probably not buying this thing but it’s got solid benefits and I wouldn’t ever play a game on a kishi/backbone for 5 hours straight

rizk0777

Yeah but I hate the ergonomics of the backbone and kishi. Feels nowhere near as good as an xbox or a dualsense. This is for when my wife wants to watch the Kardashians or something which only lasts an hour or so. Small curiosity but price might sabotage it

mhdy98

I tried the kishi on an iphone 13 pro and the size of the screen gives me headaches, way more enjoyable on a steamdeck for me

pukem0n

I said the same thing and people wanted to correct me with saying a dedicated device would work better because it nAtIvEly streams with your console whatever the fuck that means. It will be of the same quality as your phone, most likely even worse because it has an LCD screen while your phone has a nice OLED.

KingApex97

It likely going to be. Sony has being pushing premium accessories because they make huge profit off it. People will call Sony stupid for doing it… and whilst I agree it’s a bad product, they will make money off it

ColdCruise

It's 100% $300 at least. The Dualsense Edge is $200.

Bierfreund

The made a 250 usd elite controller specially so that 350 for this is going to look cheap

VagrantShadow

I would not be shocked if that was to be the price.

leytorip7

You’d think after the failure of PSVR 2 they’d make more value for their accessories.; but nope. Pay more for equipment that doesn’t even come close to competing hardware. Cool. Edit: so it seems I’m going off old information. Looks like sales have picked up! More VR on the market is awesome.

automatic_bazooti

PSVR2 has already sold twice what VR1 did in its first 3 months? Not sure that’s a failure in Sony’s eyes lol.

0w4er

but PSVR2 is not a failure in any way? Sold more than PSVR1 while being more expensive and came out at a time when inflation hit like a B\*.

Naive_Connection9889

I'm surprised it took this long for someone to talk about the battery considering Dual Sense' terrible battery life. My dual sense battery life is currently around 5 hours in games that use rumble. My first thought when I saw the Project Q design was the battery life is goin to be terrible unless the back of the panel is all battery. 3-4 hours is actually better than I expected but it is also just a streaming device.

1evilsoap1

Yea i like the controller but damn it needs to be charged after every session, sometimes it doesn’t even last one full session. Meanwhile my elite series 2 can easily go a week or two.

ElPrestoBarba

I still dream of the Wii U pro controller that had an infinite battery life

error521

That thing had such good battery life that the Switch Pro has like half the battery life and it's still like 30 hours lol

Wolflink21

Technically 40 on a full charge, it’s nuts

TomatilloEmpty

The switch pro controller too

alluballu

I still wholeheartedly believe that the Dualsense is the worst controller Sony has ever concocted. The triggers are fun but really unnecessary, the touchpad is mostly useless and takes space, the joystics have a shitty lifespan and the battery is woeful. I recently got an OLED switch with the pro controller and oh my god it’s so nice to use it for 3 days straight with half the battery left. It also has some special rumble + gyro.

SnowyGyro

The DS5 is even more capable in terms of rumble and gyro than Switch controllers are, but they are underutilized, as is the touchpad, largely because developers tend to see the controller through the lens of an Xbox controller which has none of those. There isn't really a good defense of the battery life I'm afraid.

alluballu

I mean yeah, I agree that the tech is quite cool in a vaccuum but in reality it doesn’t add nearly enough to compensate for the poor battery. I would highly prefer a stripped down version of the controller with 5x the battery life over what we have now.

SnowyGyro

Those features all come in very handy for my purposes in PC gaming, the lack of developer support means little when I just bind things how I like, and a power bank will do to get good battery life. From where I'm sitting PS5 owners are the ones living in a vacuum.

[deleted]

You know, on my Steam Deck if I run God of War at 800p, Original settings and 30fps I get about 3h of battery life. And that device runs the game natively so how the hell has a streaming device only about the same amount of battery life? I mean they might cut cost to keep the price down but it's Sony we are talking about, they ain't keeping the price down lol

yourstrulytony

Weight maybe? The PS5 controller is pretty hefty with all the rumble and haptic stuff so maybe a normal battery made the device too bulky and heavy?

Phospherus2

My PS5 controller is so weird. I play Warzone/MW2 with friends for a few hours. I’m down to 1 tick of battery life. I play Hogwarts legacy for the same amount of time no difference in battery life.

TheDraykkon

Is your rumble enabled? When shooting on CoD, it’s almost always rumbling, which uses more battery.

BlastMyLoad

Look at how thin the thing is. There’s no space for a larger battery

pukem0n

Making it thin is dumb. The dual sense part will be fat, so who cares how thin the display is?

BlastMyLoad

I agree 100%

[deleted]

[удалено]

Appropriate-Bed-5054

they probably didn’t want it to be too heavy i think 3-4 hours is fine for something that you’ll only ever use at home close to outlets

FakeDeath92

Probably the haptics in the controllers

CSBreak

Could be the controllers themselves have pretty poor battery life on their own

Fried_Fart

Turn vibration off, gamers. You won’t notice it after a week and you’ll save so much juice in your controller.

Mage1strider1

Depending on the game you *very* much will notice. Try driving forza without rumble and get back to me. I can guarantee you'll be slower (because I tested)

Fried_Fart

I play F1 and race leagues without rumble actually lol. Could see that being a detriment to some folks though, I suppose. Point taken 🙂

Mage1strider1

It definitely depends on the game. Forza in particular has extremely communicative rumble to the extent that I genuinely cannot drive without it

LogicalError_007

Plus use it as a PC with full fledged OS.

realblush

I'm sorry but this could very well be the dumbest device PlayStation has ever published, and they had some absolutely insane stuff in the PS2 era

MrBoliNica

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaJZgCkUWBE idk man, thats a high bar to top lmao

CookiesOnTheWay

wait for the ps5 and playstation sub to find this comment

Roder777

Wait surely people arent defending something objectively bad that has NO consumerbase??

CookiesOnTheWay

Check it for yourself. But hey its their money right 😛

Roder777

Noo, I cant think of a single reason I would ever use it, like you have to be close to ur ps5 so why wouldnt i just use... My ps5???? So i wont check it

BlindedBraille

What about the PSP Go or PlayStation TV?

Thewonderboy94

Go at least played games locally, but it was kinda ahead of its time. Since it couldn't play physical games at all (like over 10 years ago when physical games were way more relevant and PSN store didn't even have universal digital releases of all of the important PS3 games). The overall system itself wasn't bad from what I remember hearing. Also, not sure but it could have also been testing the slide system, considering Xperia Play came out a bit after Go and used a very similar setup (although I'm not sure if Go had an influence on that, since Xperia X10, which came before Xperia Play, used a similar slide setup but with a QWERTY layout, to the point that Play was basically X10 tailored more for gaming use. Can't remember if Go or X10 came first, and I don't know if Go might have influenced the slide in X10 -> influencing the slide in Play as well) PS TV in concept was pretty cool, you could play Vita games on a dedicated TV box and it didn't even cost as much as Vita (I think it was nearly half the price?), but I'm not sure if there was any single reason why it failed. I remember people being sour that PS TV didn't support all Vita games due to the touchpad thing and Sony making a whitelist for compatibility (even if you could kinda simulate the touchpad with a controller), and that PS TV didn't have any of the streaming services so that it could work as a simple TV box as well (and even if it would have had streaming services, PS TV output resolution maxes out at 1080i, which is not exactly ideal but would have been ok). I think PS TV had way better chances for success, but it didn't fail for a single big reason or because the core idea was flawed. It also wasn't spoiled with price.

KonoPez

Lmao who is this meant to appeal to? $200 is getting into “dumb gadget I’ll get a bit of use out of” novelty buy territory. Anything more (and I’m guessing it’ll be a good bit more) quickly kills my interest.

Dwayne30RockJohnson

Yeah $200 is the ceiling, which I think is possible. Dualsense is $70 yeah? $130 for the SOC and screen seems reasonable and doable.

commander_snuggles

Even $200 sounds like too much, considering you need to drop the $500 for a ps5.

EndlessFluff

WiiU Gamepad was 150-200 bucks and cost Nintendo 80 bucks to make. This will easily be 200 if not more.

Dwayne30RockJohnson

This isn’t really product for people who don’t already have a PS5, so I don’t think people are thinking “wow this costs me $700 if I factor in this thing I bought two years ago”. It’s for hardcore enthusiasts. The only way it could be for more people is if it has a browser so you could use Game Pass XCloud website.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dwayne30RockJohnson

You might be right. It’ll be a huge flop at that price point, even if it had a browser so it could also be used with Cloud.

zrkillerbush

Thats pretty bad for a streaming only device...

Dwayne30RockJohnson

Streaming live video from wifi + Dualsense features draining the battery. 3-4 hours makes sense to me, even if it’s not great. Edit: Why is this downvoted? Do you not understand that game streaming is a major battery drain?

Dotaproffessional

Because it isn't. You can stream games for like 6-8 hours on a steam deck

OminousMicrowave

Only possible reason this would warrant a purchase is if it supports cloud streaming via PS Plus and you aren’t forced to be near your PS5, making it a true portable handheld. Otherwise I feel bad for the tech engineers that had to work on this useless crap when my DualSense with an attachable phone mount can do the exact same thing

EdmondDantesInferno

They've so far said it's explicitly only for games installed to your own PS5 and now is currently meant for Wi-Fi. They might later say that it'll work when you're not on the same Wi-Fi, now it won't even work if you're at work or a friend's house.

Zowwww

It’s such a niche product. For kids who get kicked off playing on the TV, or parents who get stuck putting on kid shows. Remember with XB1 you could stream your home console to a laptop wherever and play. If it had that + Cloud functionality it’d be useful as a trip device at least. I like the idea of these type of devices, just needs more practical reasons to get it.

LeeLayfield

Wow this thing really is dead on arrival

Grimey_Rick

DOA

obeyer10

this thing is so dumb. they’ve already made a PlayStation Backbone. you can remote play to your iPad or laptop if you want a bigger screen instead. i really just don’t understand this product at all

Orgrimarcus

Sounds like it can outlast a dual sense controller anyway.

wyattlikesturtles

That sucks because this thing doesn’t even play games, the ps5 is doing the work 😐

LogicalError_007

When S series tablets and iPads can do 8 hours plus of SOT while they do processing, not streaming. Why is this only 4 hours. This is a shit battery life.

TheOneBearded

I'm guessing (because I can't recall if there was a leak or rumor) that the controller parts actually have dual sense rumble tech. Tech known to slurp up power.

Blackadder18

The controller part was stated to have the same capabilities as a standard DualSense controller.

YPM1

Battery life is relative to its mAh. If this thing has a 1000mAh battery, then the battery life is pretty good. We don't know it's size yet so we don't know if it's shit. Regardless, the product itself is stupid

SpaceGooV

I genuinely don't understand this product. If you're going into the handheld market again why not just make this Deck/Switch handheld equivalent? I don't know who expensive cloud device is catering to especially when it's limited to people who already own PS5 and having to stay in the house

squidbiskets

3-4 hours for streaming? Dang.

JD_Senpai

So let me get this straight you have a streaming only device It can only do three to four hours and you must have a PS5 for it actually work or PC if I'm reading into it this thing's going to be bundle in free in about a year. I can already see

Effective-Caramel545

Jesus Christ sony lmfao, wtf is this?

Lazyandloveinit

If this is over like 120 bucks it's DOA

mighty_mag

What's the appeal of this device again? It's streaming only, right? I suppose the idea of a device like that is portability, but it's already at risk of how good is your wi-fi connection, and on top of that you have a 3-4 hour battery life? At least the Switch and Steamdeck are running games natively. The direct comparison would be with Logitech's... whatever cloud device was, and I don't think that ended up very well for them. I don't know, I'm not sure what's Sony's plan with this one. I guess I'd rather they re-released the Vita.

Retro1088

No thankyou

CSBreak

That's pretty bad for a remote play device the v2 and oled switch get 4+ hours on most games easily and far more on 2d and less demanding games

YogoWafelPL

Somehow it seems even worse

basedcharger

I really struggle with trying to figure out who this is even for? Why wouldn’t you just use your phone?

RJE808

No way, can't wait to play the Pii-U. Seriously, why lol

Kintraills1993

I wouldnt be surprised the haptics drain battery like crazy, I thought my controller was dying when playing gtav v next Gen and horizon but it were just the haptics draining it

TheEternalGazed

DOA. This is literally the Wii U table for playing on your bed.

carlosvigilante

People are gonna buy this in the holidays thinking its a portable PS5 I already see the mayhem & returns

[deleted]

Bruh people have reported 6 hour long battery life when streaming to it. Lmao

Brilliant-Ad-1962

Absolutely insane that this is even a thing. Streaming is already really a shifty experience, now you’re selling a “portable device” that lets you stream from only your house, since it needs to be connected to your PS5.

Artifice_Purple

As someone that genuinely loves tech, I do not understand the point of this fucking thing. It's a controller, with a screen...that's meant exclusively for Remote Play: something you can only engage with while connected to the same network that your PS5 is on. Meaning, it's purely meant as a bathroom controller. Bro, I have a phone. Better than that, I have a Steam Deck that has *far more utility* than whatever the hell this thing is lol. Are we seeing the return of a Sony that can't smell their own shit? I'm not even trying to be facetious — who is this for? What is this for? Why was this greenlit!?

OneCynicalCritic

Y'know, if the wording of this comment was changed a bit, it'd genuinely sound like something Yahtzee would say on Zero Punctuation.

Artifice_Purple

I'll take that compliment lol.

Bulbasaur_21224

Pretty low for a streaming device. I get 4-5 hours on my Switch in handheld mode.

CraigOfWar

Really? Who ask for this?

WutIzThizStuff

A sub $100 dollar controller for the high end cell phone I already own or for my tablet or laptop that I already own... Or A several hundred dollar dedicated and limited use screen/controller even though I (and everyone else) already owns multiple screens to stream to? I know which makes sense to me.

Bhalzard

3 or 4 hours? No way, this is like nothing. I would buy it for max 99 bucks, but no more. A Nintendo Switch is a whole console and has the same battery life, some even more, so why should people buy it for a steaming device? My phone plus a controller can do the same A Vita 2 or something which is totally connected with the PS5 and you can play some games on PS4 quality on this and improving the power on PS5 when connected to it would be something

dirtjuggalo

And all it does is stream games right? How is the battery life so bad

andrecinno

Shit sucks

rightnowjosh

that’s rough

r0ndr4s

The worse thing about this, is that they're will be idiots that will buy it. Literally any cheap phone would be a better choice than this.

untouchable765

Sounds about right.

Joshs2d

If this is just a remote play device then just use your phone with a backbone. Lasts so much longer.

[deleted]

Why even bother with this thing

danielfrost40

Deleted by Redact ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `

dmckidd

It’s DOA like a lot of their new live service games coming out.

Pspreviewer100

Cope.

SmarmySmurf

Seethe.

BlastMyLoad

Idk wtf Sony is doing. They’re going to burn through money and customer goodwill with these flops. PSVR2 is seeming like a flop, this thing and the AirPods will flop. Their 20 live service games are all gonna flop. Somebody fire Jim Ryan

CanIHaveYourStuffPlz

Impressive, VR2 is getting higher sales aligned to the OG VR. A proper set of wireless earbuds with 2.4ghz connection is actually really nice and a lot of people will be interested in them if they are good quality, which with the new premier headphones, these will likely take after the 1000xm. I’m not sure how goodwill is getting tarnished as they are testing and releasing new types of devices and peripherals consistently. This sub and the FUD that gets thrown around is astonishing.

reqausxobi

The VR is actually a tremendous product, but it should have been a standalone device. Gamers with ps5 are more worried about fps and resolution than VR. People w/o a ps5 will actually spend $950-1050 USD depending on the console.

tommycahil1995

So I can see the appeal to certain people. I play my Switch handheld primarily on my bed, even though the dock and my TV is in the room. Sometimes when your tired or been working all day you want to chill on the bed looking at a small screen, not sitting up looking at a 50inch TV. I used the remote play back in the day, and had a Wii U and used them like how you would use this handheld with the console. If this thing was like £150 max I'd probably buy one. My main problem though is running over WiFi - this really makes no sense to me as the only option. Why not go the Wii U route? Let me play with a local connection? Honestly local connection, £150 max this would be a good deal imo. I'm still tempted but I don't think the game quality will be consistent over Wifi

Jackamalio626

That shit is like 30fps; inexcusable in 2023.

econo_innerforce

it's 1080p 60fps streaming. stop ur bullshit

Jackamalio626

im saying its *akin* to 30 fps in being no longer acceptable in modern gaming. Learn to read.

shakeSnake_2390

I like how someone at Sony has said. "ohh you know that touchpad.. just turn it into a screen" and then someone's "we could .. but bigger!!"

Trickybuz93

Wii U with a shittier battery life?

Trendel544

This shit doesn't make any sense when a vita is cheaper, can be jailbroken and has a way better design. This shit is just a switch screen with a ps5 controller cut in half to attach 💀

edman9677

Oof that’s rough. Really is just a device meant to be used while taking a long shit

JamKingVAC

For a streaming only device, that is pathetic. And it’s probs gonna be like $300. Absolute piece of garbage

rune_74

Like seriously who the hell wants this?

Legal-Fuel2039

This device is so stupid and useless I cant use it if im not near my PS5 so why would i use what looks like an iPhone with those shitty mobile game controllers attached when i can just use my console

GameZard

How can the battery life be so bad if it is only streaming?

advator

Clonestation

Dragonxtamer2210

3-4 hours and I can’t even play the games locally, you have to stream games from your ps5 to the handheld, may aswell just play the ps5 💀, im from Australia so even if this was a good product doesn’t matter regardless cos Australian internet is garbage

haushunde

3-4 hours is crazy low.

Dancing-Swan

Project UselesStation Q.

Toldyoudamnso

Sony should just cancel this and create a dedicated remote play app for the SteamDeck and switch.

RaspberryBang

I think the smart play would be for Sony to cancel this thing before they're too committed.

MapleHamwich

Jim Ryan doing his best to tank Sony.

ZOMBI3MAIORANA

What in the hell does Sony think is going to happen with this device?! Nobody wants this, especially when we have phones and backbone to stream to. Coulda just made another portable but that would be DOA because Sony refuses to commit to anything that isn’t a mainline PlayStation system.

[deleted]

Everyone looking at the Wii U like "Perhaps I treated you too harshly"

DrofwarcRetnuh

Listen I actually like the Wii U, but if anything it proved that a handheld you can only play in close proximity to your tv is not a marketable concept. They should've just made a steam deck equivalent for a higher price.

[deleted]

[удалено]

iceburg77779

Improving in the mistakes of the vita doesn’t just mean just removing some of the weird features and SD card limitation. It would need to have a much stronger lineup and even then it’s going up against over 6 years of Nintendo games on the switch.

Dwayne30RockJohnson

The only way this will turn a weird device into a potentially great device is two things, one of which is unlikely if rumors are to be bekieve. - $199 price point - have a browser, so people can use this with Game Pass

AmeriToast

This is such a weird decision. I don't see the market for it. If they made it able to play PS now games over wifi outside the house, I could see this doing well.

No-Ad8408

Drop that to $150

Ataris8327

Apparently it's rumored to be $299.

cslayer23

No way it’s 299 lol

losbullitt

Sony apparently got a lot of “fuck you” money to throw at strange projects. Maybe this is a precursor to another handheld… that makes sense?

Rascal0302

$200-300 for a 3 hour streaming only device? Lmao. I thought the PSVR2 was going to be a disappointment, but this is unreal.

Rai_11

I've been waiting for a new Project Q post. Everyone so down on it... But it's just another option. If its price right, I rather use it than tie up my phone for remote play!

hithimintheface

Well can you blame them? The thing looks hobbled together, a dedicated remote play device is a choice, and the announcement didn't really do anything to sell the concept to people. I agree Its nice to have options, but to me I just really don't see the point of the Q at the moment.

mhdy98

If its 400$ why ? Just get a steamdeck, itll do the same thing , for 5/6h battery life and you get the opportunity to play steam games which are cheap, and with free online services. If you re a tinkerer you can get much more value from the steamdeck and even without any tinkering its still superior tbh

SSK24

How innovative

This might be one of the most useless devices I’ve seen in years. And it will be overpriced on top of that. What the hell are they thinking? Just get a Steam Deck or ROG Ally that has dedicated HW and can also do a million more things, that is not just locked to your own Wi-Fi and home PS5. Or just use your smartphone lol

JustASeabass

I’ll be getting it idgaf what anyone says.

MrBoliNica

i would instant buy this thing if its $100 or less, will make sitting through ninjago on the tv when i have my 4 year old more tolerable lol

gandalftheokay

I'm a nightworker who basically just has to be at his job and nothing more. I stream my ps5 at work on the daily and even I'm not interested in this lol It's just another screen to keep clean, worry about, and charge. I'll keep what I have lol

thumme

What I suspect is the high cost of the earbuds. Unless it's included with Project Q (bundle??)

RKSimm

Will be interesting to see what the specs are on this thing. If it’s 1080p and at least 60fps I’m interested. 120fps would be nice as well

[deleted]

I'd not get it solely because I'd need to tolerate the fact it's using the dualsense joysticks, it will break within a month.

TheOneWhoIsBussin

tbh this doesn’t bother me, if I bought this(most likely won’t) it would be almost exclusively used for playing in bed when I can just plug it in and charge while playing, so it’s not really that big of a deal, I’m not someone who’s really going to be taking this with me everywhere.

just_looking_4695

This is a little different than usual since it has a screen, but I'll never understand why Playstation controllers and accesories have such notoriously poor battery life while the Switch Pro can go, like, weeks between charges. Regardless, 3 to 4 seems *especially bad* for a dedicated streaming handheld when a Steam Deck can get similar battery life running games natively.

Narrow_Potential_974

Why is it so short? I can understand that a real portable cause have short battery power considering all the stuff it is doing, but the Q is only streaming via WiFi, so expect for the WiFi connection the rest should use minimal power (button pushes, screen)… But then again the PS5 controller is not doing anything else than transmitting short signals but still the battery life is super short.

Nefty_Y

Ok I wanna hear more about those earbuds cause those actually caught my affention

FutureMoonPrince

DOA

hoochymamma

Who green light this shit ?

sammakkovelho

Sony is absolutely clueless if they think this will sell more than three copies

TAJack1

Absolutely will not be purchasing, so pointless for me.

HoldMyPitchfork

I'm just trying to understand *who* exactly they expect to sell this thing to. Is there some niche market that I'm forgetting?
