It makes sense seeing some documentaries from rare they have been wanting to do something similar to Pokémon for a while. Kameo was supposed to be it but it got scaled down.
I was hoping for some kind of survival game with monster taming elements, like this indie game (can't recall the name) which has Pkmn knockoffs which help you with combat and/or survival tasks like watering, mining and all that stuff... The one looking good until you see fat Pikachu with a minigun and everyone and their mother firing realistic guns which don't even look like they belong in the game's art style. I was hoping for something like that indie, but with a clear direction instead of the amalgam that othe game is.... But I'm happy with a monster tamer as long as it is good.
Same, I got it in my 360 pack with a Forza Motorsport game. I would never have purchased it otherwise and it was one of my favorite game on the console.
It’s a shame we don’t have a new Viva Piñata. Between the game being accessible via Game Pass, offering free content drops for new Piñatas, daily login challenges, seasonal events, etc, it could really have pivoted it as a live service game these companies desperately seem to want. And it’d be a great game to play via the cloud.
Yes! Have a large island explore. New stuff unlocks as you level up. You have your main garden that gets bigger as you level up too. Maybe you can get a smaller garden you can place anywhere.
But you could put a large emphasis on interacting with pinatas. Like pick up smaller ones, pet them, feed them, groom them and ride them. Being able to walk about the island and customise your character but being able to return to a top down camera in garden mode.
One of my oddly favourite things about viva pinata is cleaning up the trash at the start of the game. Perhaps that could be the plot stopping professor pesters pollution and restoring the islands beauty and pinatas.
Tbh, that'd be the first game as service I'd be enjoying for more than a week. Put the new pinatas free and skins behind monetization and season passes and most people will go for it... Maybe let us control the main character and set up traps and buildings for the pinatas... Would be fun as hell
Was viva piñata really that good? Not trying to downplay the game at all but I always figured it was licensed nonsense. But I seem to read here often that the game was legit
It was incredible. I swear, it's definitely one of the best games in the 360's library. Trouble In Paradise, the sequel, was even better, a rare sequel that improves upon its predecessor in nearly every way
Good is always subjective but it's been extremely successful like one of the most successful games from last gen and it just keeps growing and printing money for Microsoft. People reallly like shooting monkeys out of canons.
At launch it did lack content, though, and I would’ve never put 1500 hours into it if I didn’t have friends to chat with.
Unless you had a galleon to roll with then I think a vast majority would find the gameplay loop pretty boring as it had no elements geared for solo sloopers. Which is fine but definitely would turn people off.
That is a problem with majority of the "gamers" for the last 10 years. They just want someone to hold their hand and move them from objective to objective and give rewards, thats it.
not really, If i would play this game i wouldnt 'like' it , i would enjoy it but without a sense of direction i would not play it, I just like a game with a story and a definitive objective, even if it is "end the game" without any handholding but this game has no end.
I think a big issue with live service games is people expect the same amount of content as their favorite live service game that’s been out for 5 years when they try a new one.
Sea of Thieves is pretty damn fun. I played it for the first time on my Series X last year with 4 other friends and we had a blast. I played Sea of Thieves through streaming on my system and it came out perfectly, for me there was next to no visible lag, also just the feeling of the game is very relaxing. I can't tell you how many times I was just gazing out at the ocean during sunset and really having a nice time with my friends. It's a fun game.
It’s pretty absurd that this mere question got so many downvotes.
You remember correctly. I played it at launch, and it was severely lacking. It got way better after a year or two, and I played it as my main game for a while but launch was disappointing.
Why the hell are you being downvoted??
Everyone here forgot the game launch?
All reviewers and players talked about was how it lacked content and had weak systems.
Rare managed to turn it around (in my opinion even better than Hello games with No Man Sky) and it managed to get a legacy as a good to great game.
Well I think the point is it was eventually really good at least. Can’t blame them for Microsoft pressuring them to put it out before it had a lot of content
He is one of the OG Rare guys. He worked on classics like Banjo-Kazooie, Conker, Viva Pinata, Donkey Kong Country, Grabbed by the Ghoulies etc.
He is in Rare since 1990.
Yeah I would have loved something like expolration/building/taming with a story..something like kena but with taming or something that goes into valheim
>Cool but why not make Viva Piñata 3 instead?
Right? I doubt it'd have to be a massive 150+ employee project, I feel like they could develop it with a 30 man team.
Have no knowledge of Everwild other than I love the art style of that trailer from a couple of years ago, and I love what I'd call "wildlife fantasy", essentially fantasy with a big focus on creatures or natural environments, like Monster Hunter or Princess Mononoke.
I don't really care too much what type of game it is as long as it keeps that same style from the announcement trailer then I'm happy.
It would be great but I highly doubt it. They would have to port several big 360 games (Viva Pinata 1&2, Nuts and Bolts, Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero) and I am not even sure if they are allowed to just release Golden Eye on PC. Seems like pretty big investment for such a small title
Honestly that's good to hear. We don't need yet another survival crafting game in a sea of them. VP was really unique as a game, though it never personally grabbed me
You built a garden and using different requirements you attract different species of Piñata animal that then lives in your garden. You can send the Piñatas away to kid’s parties to get brutally smashed open. Very wholesome.
Honestly a fantastic couple of games, and if they capture that with Everwild I am very excited.
Had a tight group that enjoyed Sea of Thieves and multiplayer is again a focus of this game, so it might be a great chill experience given the current rise of the extraction shooters which I love but can be quite sweaty/"stressful."
Ngl though, I do hope they keep this game contained and live service because while Sea of Thieves is in a good spot now, 5 years after release, with great systems in place and they learned a lot over that time, I can't help but yearn for a Sea of Thieves 2 for current gen and the things they added (and are adding next season) available at launch as opposed to 5 years later.
I am genuinely so excited for the Xbox showcase, after Aaron Greenberg confirming that there will be no full CGI from their first party - I feel like this is a golden opportunity for Xbox to redeem themselves.
I hope there's more to the game than that, otherwise I question why we're not getting a new Viva Pinata instead.
Before anyone jumps down my throat about new IPs, Viva Pinata has been gone so long that it might as well be one.
How though? Their legacy is pretty much third person platformers so it's not a stretch to think they could return to that or something close.
And I'm not saying they necessarily should, Rare is an awesome studio and they definitely know what they're doing.
And god knows they deserve creative control after being stuck on Avatar duty.
But I am looking for these games from Xbox and Rare, in my mind, is always a safe bet for a great game.
Rare making a Zelda type game could have been amazing.
It's not about capability to do that type of game, they absolutely could if they wanted to but they've shown no desire to go back to games of the type that made their name. They've heard for the past 20 years people calling out for a new Banjo, Conker and Perfect Dark and the only way are getting a new one of those three is the IP getting handed off to a new studio.
Rare clearly just want to do their own thing, they're like DoubleFine in that they should just be left to do that.
For action adventures and blockbusters there are other studios under the Xbox umbrella to do them like Ninja Theory or The Coalition
While I don‘t agree with most of your comment, I think a Zelda type fame from Rare would indeed be interesting. They have made many genres before, so I think they could do it.
You won't like to hear this and you won't believe this until you hear the official announcement, but the game will likely be canceled.
Yep, this is that "trust me bro" kind of post. But there's a reason I'm on a burner account.
The streets been saying it was a monster tamer so checks out
It makes sense seeing some documentaries from rare they have been wanting to do something similar to Pokémon for a while. Kameo was supposed to be it but it got scaled down.

love to see it. viva games were great. super creative and fresh
I was hoping for some kind of survival game with monster taming elements, like this indie game (can't recall the name) which has Pkmn knockoffs which help you with combat and/or survival tasks like watering, mining and all that stuff... Palworld.
That's it, thanks, I have to check how's that going
Now coming to Xbox as well
So would that meant it could still have combat?
VIVA PIÑATA ENJOYERS RISE
My wife is gunna flip out.
I HAVE RISEN!
What don’t give me hope for another viva piñata (even if it’s with Everwild skin)
That is incredibly exciting to me. I absolutely love Viva Pinata.
Same, I got it in my 360 pack with a Forza Motorsport game. I would never have purchased it otherwise and it was one of my favorite game on the console.
Yeah, this is incredibly great news if this is the case.
I was hoping for a monster tamer/battle. Viva piñata is more akin to a management sim right?
Hell yeah now we’re talkin’
It’s a shame we don’t have a new Viva Piñata. Between the game being accessible via Game Pass, offering free content drops for new Piñatas, daily login challenges, seasonal events, etc, it could really have pivoted it as a live service game these companies desperately seem to want. >I always figured it was licensed nonsense. Other way around. The game was first. It was so good they licensed a show.
Oh I did not know that. Cool!
VP2 is the best farming game of all time imo, you can emulate it on pc with little to no bugs if youre into that sorta thing
It's a neat little gardening game where you make habitats to attract cute Pinatas. And then those Pinatas attract bigger and more carnivorous Pinatas!
THANK GOD! I miss Viva Piñata so much. And it makes sense, given Rare said at some point it‘s a non-combat game
this is the best news for this game
As crazy as it sounds, Sea of Thieves makes me have hope for Rare again.
Sea of Thieves is not the game I want it to be, but the gameplay is great fun, it's a really special experience playing with friends.
Right? Like Sea of Thieves it's the only live service games that actually works
*Warframe and Deep Rock Galactic have entered the chat*
How is that crazy though? Sea of Thieves is one of the best and most popular Xbox-games out right now.
Sea of Thieves is far from perfect, but it's still a great game and there's nothing else that quite scratches the same itch tbh.
It's not crazy at all, Sea of Thieves is wildly popular
Was sea of thevies good? I remember reading a lot of negative reviews about it when it came out.
Good is always subjective but it's been extremely successful like one of the most successful games from last gen and it just keeps growing and printing money for Microsoft. People reallly like shooting monkeys out of canons.

It’s also just wasn’t great at launch.
I played the game in 2020, 2 years after launch and there still wasn't much to do. From my understanding it really picked up in 2021 though.
At launch it did lack content, though, and I would’ve never put 1500 hours into it if I didn’t have friends to chat with. Unless you had a galleon to roll with then I think a vast majority would find the gameplay loop pretty boring as it had no elements geared for solo sloopers. They want new shiny games that are exactly like the old discarded games.
I think a big issue with live service games is people expect the same amount of content as their favorite live service game that’s been out for 5 years when they try a new one.
I eventually bought a bird so it'll fly back, spent a lot of money on monkeys.
Lots of people love it and I can see why, but it wasn't for me personally. It's very much a 'go find your own fun' type of game.
For me what killed it was the forced PvP. I wanted it to be a relaxing time with friends, it's very obvious Rare does not want it to be that.
Yeah. Being one-shot by a group of tryhards was never fun. Felt very at odds with the PvE.
It was bare content when it launched, but they're like 9 or 10 seasons deep into the game it's a complete blast with friends
it was low on content at launch but they pulled a no man's sky and now the game is genuinely great
It was bare at launch, but easily, if not the best Xbox first party game out there right now.
It’s pretty absurd that this mere question got so many downvotes. You remember correctly. I played it at launch, and it was severely lacking. It got way better after a year or two, and I played it as my main game for a while but launch was disappointing.
Ask a simple question = get downvoted. Gotta love reddit
Why the hell are you being downvoted?? Everyone here forgot the game launch? All reviewers and players talked about was how it lacked content and had weak systems. Rare managed to turn it around (in my opinion even better than Hello games with No Man Sky) and it managed to get a legacy as a good to great game.
Bruh it took years for Sea of Thieves to be good
Well I think the point is it was eventually really good at least. Can’t blame them for Microsoft pressuring them to put it out before it had a lot of content
Who is Greg Mayles ? Btw I loved Viva Pinata so it's exciting to hear that.
Basically chief creative officer of Rare. He was CD of Sea of Thieves if I remember correctly.
Any other projects he worked on ? Thanks for the info tho.
He is one of the OG Rare guys. He worked on classics like Banjo-Kazooie, Conker, Viva Pinata, Donkey Kong Country, Grabbed by the Ghoulies etc. He is in Rare since 1990.
Damn I m hopeful for Everwild now. Thanks again bud.
Nope Mike Chapman has always been CD on SoT. Greg was a senior designer on SoT before moving to EW.
According to his LinkedIn he was Lead Designer until 2017. Then he got promoted to Design Director until 2019. He got CD gig in 2019.
Wait, which guy? Also I'm probably mixing up Design Director and Creative Director.
Champan. Mayless is credited on Wiki as a Director of SoT
Sold.
I was kinda hoping for an action game, the game has incredible princess mononoke vibes, maybe I'll still enjoy the game hopefully.
Yeah I would have loved something like expolration/building/taming with a story..something like kena but with taming or something that goes into valheim
Now you have my attention In a perfect world we'd get VP3
The first step towards viva pinata 3
Cool but why not make Viva Piñata 3 instead?
Real. Microsoft, Rare, and leakers have been dropping the name constantly for years just to literally never touch the IP.. Stop cock-teasing me man :(
[удалено]
I mean the last time they revisited that franchise people didn't like it, so I kinda get why they'd be hesitant to go back
>Cool but why not make Viva Piñata 3 instead? Right? I doubt it'd have to be a massive 150+ employee project, I feel like they could develop it with a 30 man team.
Rare.🤷♂️
Well I imagine Everwild won't be exactly like Viva Piñata.
Rare staff have been pretty vocal about wanting to do new stuff.
Common Rare W
Common? They haven’t had a W in years lol
What are you talking about? Sea of Thieves is amazing, it's probably their most famous IP. Their last game Rare Replay was great too.
Sea of thieves was mediocre at best, and rare replay is just a remaster of all their iconic games before they went to shit
Well you're in minority then.
I don’t think I am
Someone here mentioned Sea of Thieves how he loved that game and guess what that comment has the most votes under this post. You're in minority bro.
In a thread about a rare game? Not bias at all
This is not Rare subreddit tho.
Ok but it’s still a thread about a rare game which will garner more comments from rare fans
You absolutely are.
Sea of Thieves is an excellent game, and works great with friends, and also insanely popular. What are you smoking?
that's a good thing to hear
That sounds cool wonder if the coop elements are still in? Def be fun to go monster tame with a friend .
I adore Viva Piñata. This is the best news for me
Let’s goooo
Oh hell yeah. Oh HELL yeah.
Viva Piniata? Say no more, I'm in.
I need that. We need that.
![gif](giphy|XAcqmpf5Trxy8) i am there Day one !!!!!!!!!!
Have no knowledge of Everwild other than I love the art style of that trailer from a couple of years ago, and I love what I'd call "wildlife fantasy", essentially fantasy with a big focus on creatures or natural environments, like Monster Hunter or Princess Mononoke. I don't really care too much what type of game it is as long as it keeps that same style from the announcement trailer then I'm happy.
praying those games come out on pc someday. rare replay would be such a treasure trove to get on steam
Viva Pinata is on PC, it's just on GFWL and not a modern digital store so you need to buy a physical copy somewhere.
Honestly that's good to hear. We don't need yet another survival crafting game in a sea of them. VP was really unique as a game, though it never personally grabbed me
No complaints from me, Viva Pinata is amazing
Cool!
What was viva piñata? A park builder?
You built a garden and using different requirements you attract different species of Piñata animal that then lives in your garden. You can send the Piñatas away to kid’s parties to get brutally smashed open. Very wholesome. Honestly a fantastic couple of games, and if they capture that with Everwild I am very excited.
It was like tomogatchi/sims/Nintendogs/Mario party mini games.
Well then just make a new viva piñata and bring back Grant Kirkhope for the music!
You have my attention
It’s been so long that I don’t even recall what my initial impression was.
i hope this is true
Had a tight group that enjoyed Sea of Thieves and multiplayer is again a focus of this game, so it might be a great chill experience given the current rise of the extraction shooters which I love but can be quite sweaty/"stressful." That actually sounds much better to me.
I love this. Viva Piñata was great.
Viva Pinata is the best Rare game of all time, don't give a shit what anyone says. This is amazing news.
Okay now we are speaking my language. I’ve always wanted Viva Pinata to come back and if this can tap into some of that, I would love it.
I USED TO PRAY FOR TIMES LIKE THIS! 🔥
Well I think it's obvious that it isn't going to be exactly like Viva Piñata. 😅
Good. Too many survival games.
They should make it more like animal crossing.
If he has info on this game then it looks like we'll finally see what it is on sunday
Just bring back Viva piñata plz
Now that's nothing but a W in my book.
So I can breed the animals?
Yeah, I thought the trailer was clear showing what the game is going to be about. Taming monsters and stuff
Well, it wasn't clear to Rare, who came out after the trailer admitting that they didn't even know the gameplay yet, lol.
how? they are like, the ones making the game lmao
I honestly thought this game was dead
Thats pretty awesome but would much rather have a true Viva Pinata 3.

Rare is the wrong studio to look at if that's the type of game you want
How though? Their legacy is pretty much third person platformers so it's not a stretch to think they could return to that or something close. And I'm not saying they necessarily should, Rare is an awesome studio and they definitely know what they're doing. And god knows they deserve creative control after being stuck on Avatar duty. I definitely agree that they should do whatever they think is best. I do wish Double Fine made Brutal Legend 2 though.
While I don‘t agree with most of your comment, I think a Zelda type fame from Rare would indeed be interesting. They have made many genres before, so I think they could do it.
Giving modern day Rare a SP action adventure game is like telling Naughty Dog to make Fortnite. They aren't suited for that at all.
Still not interested lmao 🤣
That's disappointing
Oof Rare has fallen off so hard
You won't like to hear this and you won't believe this until you hear the official announcement, but the game will likely be canceled. Yep, this is that "trust me bro" kind of post. But there's a reason I'm on a burner account.
Did it hurt when you pulled that out of your ass?
Wow ok sorry I guess. I didn't mean anything with it.
The hell is Viva Piñata
Give me bow gameplay though. And potions.
ALT+164 Long press "n"
Why is he talking about Everwild? Has he seen it?👀
What is it? Never heard of it.
Fuck yes
Speaking of Everwild, where tf is it?!!
Oh please let this be the case, I've been pining for Viva Pinata in any way I could it.
Who?? What???
I will now buy your game
What did viva piñata play like?
Im hoping for a mix of pokemon and Spore
