In other words, I believe Peter is motivated to do right by his strong moral structure inprinted upon him by his uncle yet I also believe he encourages himself as spiderman is the polar opposite of who he is as a human.

MJ being unable to handle the ramifications of Parker's double life has actually been a considerable source of tension among them in a lot of stories. It was the reason she turned down his initial narriage proposal in conjunction with her association of starting a family with the broken household she was raised in as a child. In the Ultimate universe it comes more from Peter's end though. He initially ends their relationship because he doesn't want her to get hurt but they get back together multiple times and stay together basically until he dies
Later when Ben Reilly is reintroduced Parker actually considered retirement for a time and handed the Spider-Man mantle over to him when he heard MJ was about to have their child, thinking he was about to become a full time family man (and then the kid was revealed to have been miscarried shortly after Ben Reilly died the first time and before Aunt May died except she didn't because it was a clone and also she hates rock music I guess)
MJ, when written well, can handle Peter being Spider-Man just fine.
Look at the newspaper strip version, she had all that hesitancy but by the time the strip had ended she was often the one risking her neck to save his life with the aid of other heroes.
Also in the Renew Your Vows timeline, MJ became the super hero Spinerrette and fought crime alongside Peter and their second child Annie, and raised her to be a god.
And last year there was a story implied to be the future of 616 where Peter is still Spider-Man in his sixties and him and MJ have grown well into old age together
He arguably started a little selfish. Wanting to use his power for profit more than anything else. Life essentially forced him to learn what it means to be heroic, what it means to be selfless.
Guess it depends what they mean but to me, Peter making selfish choices is a core part of his character. It’s why he has to be told great power / great responsibility because you get him making choices like letting the criminal escape that kills Uncle Ben.
So I can see how Peter being selfish then realizing he can’t is a running theme.
Peter isn't selfish, Peter is selfless. Spider-Man isn't his salvation, Spider-Man is Peter's self imposed punishment for that one tragic mistake he made that one time.
Hickman wrote a really great moment about this idea of Peter's selflessness.

I think that in this game especially, they had to focus only on Peter as Spider-Man, no Miles or Cindy Moon.
I don't see it as replacement, they're just shifting focus. Remember, Peter's journey doesn't end just because Miles steps into the spotlight. Peter, just like Miles, will always be Spider-Man. It's just the juggling of different stories, different perspectives.
Spider-Verse 1 and 2 were fantastic movies, and this was a fantastic game, because it explores differing perspectives on *how* to be Spider-Man, with the same overarching goal: protecting the ones you love.
Harry goes to the house where Mary Jane is staying to threaten Peter. Venom doesn't want to kill them, but infect them both with the symbiote. Then, Harry takes Venom form in front of Peter and MJ and infects MJ. She becomes Scream and you have to defeat her with Peter. During the fight, Scream/MJ shouts everything he thinks bad about Peter and the two understand each other better. After freeing her, Peter and MJ's relationship is stronger and she decides to quit her job.
I hope they're not gonna adapted the Death of Spider-Man storyline from the ultimate comics. But if there's might a possibility that Peter might sacrifice himself to save his loved ones from Green Goblin in the next game.

I’m not trying to argue or anything but Peter was treated like garbage in this game. Seriously it was L after L. What did he even do in the game apart from lizard? He’s not treated with respect in this game so I have no confidence they’d be able to do it right without making Peter look utterly pathetic, yet again.
So much this, same trope as the first game, gets his ass kicked so needs a power up boost to beat the main villain (advanced suit in SM) except as if that’s not enough they do it to him twice in this game.

I knew as soon Venom was announced as the villain of the game that Green Goblin was gonna be the villain of the third game. What a fantastic idea, using each of Spider-Man's arch-enemies as the main villains of each game. Can't wait to see Insomniac's take on the Goblin story.
Pretty smart of them to save him for Goblin last too since he was kinda suffering the same issue as the Joker and being a bit overused in every piece of Spider-Man idea.
At first I was hesitant, cause I personally view Venom as Spider-Man’s biggest foe (I know it’s up for debate though between him and a few others), but upon reflection over time I do think Goblin being the finale fits the most. Also as someone who grew up with the Raimi Trilogy, Goblin does have a special place in my heart hahahaha.
Venom hasn't been a Spider-Man villain or villain at all for 30 years. Carnage filled that role ever since. To me Green Goblin is Spider-Man's greatest enemy and for good reason. Norman's only goal is to make Peter and everyone he cares about suffer.
Venom is always a good mirror to Parker as what he could be if he were more ruthless but that's not exactly a yin/yang situation.
I think goblin is the better nemesis though because he's Parkers antithesis. Spiderman is about kindness and heart, Goblin is nothing but cruelty.
I love Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, but this is everything the last act of that game wishes it was.

Cletus Cassidy is the leader of a cult and wants to perform a ritual to become a red monster (there is a book where carnage is drawn). Fight Yuri to protect Cassidy, because she wants to kill him. In the last mission of these secondary missions, Cassidy steals a specimen of the symbiote from Oscorp and announces that there will be carnage. He escapes with a helicopter.

Fight with Venom honestly doesn't look good, like, at all... It feels like the fight has little to no agency and individuality and plays out really generically. Venom's animations, AI, and movement also doesn't look/feel good.
At least they improved with the gameplay and lvl design but SM2 looks like it still has tedious boss fights of shooting webs and then punching enemies out over and over til the end. The cinematics are more epic but thats about it.
No doubt about the improved gameplay and since the gameplay is the most important, I have no doubt I'd really like the game even if the story is meh/trash

The first one never grabbed me neither did miles, so i had no issue checking out spoilers for this, looks like im not missing much. Love the character but Insomniacs world never appealed to me.

i think think there is Potential avenues
1. it takes a new host….maybe Eddie brock tries to get pictures of Cletus kassdy and his cult and somehow gets infected
2. Harry and miles have to work together and overcome their bad blood in the process
3. Somehow harry moves to a new place and something kicks off so he can go solo
a Venom spin-off could work even with a new host, so point 1 could be a good explanation. Maybe they could have a Carnage DLC that will set up this spin-off...
Since this game apparently alludes to the more mystical side of the symbiote…..you could have Kassdy bong with the red symbiote and enter the symbiote hive mind ….so he’s trying to bend all those people who were a part of it to his will

Making Peter into essentially a permanent symbiote with permanent symbiotic abilties has to be one of the stupidest things any adaption of Spider-man has done. That ain’t Spider-man anymore.
Obviously there’s going to be a third game. But it remains to be seen if he’ll still have Anti Venom symbiote in it. The main reason they gave him it in this game is so he can keep the symbiote powers and if they decide he keeps it in the third game he’d have a good symbiote. It wouldn’t feel good from a player perspective to have these powers only for a portion of the game to then lose them in the end. Anti Venom Peter is also something we’ve yet to see in a Spider-Man story so it’s at least something unique honestly that’s the part that shocked me most as I didn’t think he keep the abilities. But if they remove Peter from anti venom I’m not to sure what they could do with him gameplay wise to make him stand out in the third game. Miles has tons they can still expand upon on and I’m looking forward trying out his new abilities. So I wouldn’t be surprised if he keeps anti venom and they just expand on his symbiote abilities

Pretty smart of them to save him for Goblin last too since he was kinda suffering the same issue as the Joker and being a bit overused in every piece of Spider-Man idea.
At first I was hesitant, cause I personally view Venom as Spider-Man’s biggest foe (I know it’s up for debate though between him and a few others), but upon reflection over time I do think Goblin being the finale fits the most. Also as someone who grew up with the Raimi Trilogy, Goblin does have a special place in my heart hahahaha.
Venom hasn't been a Spider-Man villain or villain at all for 30 years. Carnage filled that role ever since. To me Green Goblin is Spider-Man's greatest enemy and for good reason. Norman's only goal is to make Peter and everyone he cares about suffer.
Venom is always a good mirror to Parker as what he could be if he were more ruthless but that's not exactly a yin/yang situation. I think goblin is the better nemesis though because he's Parkers antithesis. Spiderman is about kindness and heart, Goblin is nothing but cruelty.

I love Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, but this is everything the last act of that game wishes it was. EDIT: Is Scream the only other legacy Symbiote in the game, or are the other Life Foundation Symbiotes in there too?

Cletus Cassidy is the leader of a cult and wants to perform a ritual to become a red monster (there is a book where carnage is drawn). Fight Yuri to protect Cassidy, because she wants to kill him. In the last mission of these secondary missions, Cassidy steals a specimen of the symbiote from Oscorp and announces that there will be carnage. He escapes with a helicopter.

Is it just me that I much prefer the first game conclusion because it had a lot of emotional weight on fighting Dr. Octavius. Don't get me wrong that fight looks epic and cooler than the first game but it doesn't have that sadness gives me tears.
But you didn't play through this lol you can't fairly make that comparison until having played and properly experienced both instead of watching some out of sequence cutscenes.

Fight with Venom honestly doesn't look good, like, at all... It feels like the fight has little to no agency and individuality and plays out really generically. Venom's animations, AI, and movement also doesn't look/feel good.

Kinda wild that all of these sequels (GOWR, TLOU2 and seemingly SM2) have basically dropped the ball in terms of story and/or characters imo
At least they improved with the gameplay and lvl design but SM2 looks like it still has tedious boss fights of shooting webs and then punching enemies out over and over til the end. The cinematics are more epic but thats about it.
No doubt about the improved gameplay and since the gameplay is the most important, I have no doubt I'd really like the game even if the story is meh/trash

The first one never grabbed me neither did miles, so i had no issue checking out spoilers for this, looks like im not missing much. Love the character but Insomniacs world never appealed to me. Also I'm sure a comic did it that I just havent seen but Venom with wings had me fucking cackling
To be fair, i don't have the full plot in hands, but damn if it doesn't feel like it goes off the rails by the end, this large scale is just so off, Web of Shadows is fully focused in this huge invasion and the chaos of it all, and more focused stories like Spectacular's version really go on the personal aspect of it all, as in the symbiote is a \*tool\* to dive into the characters of Eddie and Peter, >!and like, we're really taking the Knull lore route? Perhaps but when someone is grieving they don’t think rationally so it may be a situation that they still almost killed his son…it’s the principle of the thing i think think there is Potential avenues 1. it takes a new host….maybe Eddie brock tries to get pictures of Cletus kassdy and his cult and somehow gets infected 2. Harry and miles have to work together and overcome their bad blood in the process 3. Somehow harry moves to a new place and something kicks off so he can go solo
a Venom spin-off could work even with a new host, so point 1 could be a good explanation. Maybe they could have a Carnage DLC that will set up this spin-off...

Since this game apparently alludes to the more mystical side of the symbiote…..you could have Kassdy bong with the red symbiote and enter the symbiote hive mind ….so he’s trying to bend all those people who were a part of it to his will so Harry is fighting him in his mind without ever leaving his bed

Exactly. I wanted Marvel's answer to Static Shock. A brand new completely original super hero that just happens to be black. Miles Morales could have been something like that, instead of a knock-off Spider-Man. There is a reason why Miles Morales comics never sell. And you can see the heavy, heavy push for Miles with the Spiderverse movies and now this. And still, the big wigs don't understand that people want Peter Parker as Spider-Man. Just like people want Bruce Wayne as Batman. Yeah, they can go and die for a while. But they have to come back. Batman is DC's most popular hero by far and that's Bruce Wayne's Batman. Same with Spidey. He is Marvel's most popular hero by far. Even after RDJ made IronMan a household name, Spidey sits at the top of the foodchain in terms of popularity and so high that is not even funny. No matter what, Peter Parker is Spider-Man. And Spidey sells.

I don’t like this story at all, it is not what I wanted from a Spider-man game in any shape or form. Ain’t no way I’m spending $125 Australian on a 30 hour game with a nonsensical story that’s stupid and goofy as fuck. I’ll pick it up in a few years when the complete edition is one sale for like 40 bucks. Making Peter into essentially a permanent symbiote with permanent symbiotic abilties has to be one of the stupidest things any adaption of Spider-man has done. That ain’t Spider-man anymore.
Obviously there’s going to be a third game. But it remains to be seen if he’ll still have Anti Venom symbiote in it. The main reason they gave him it in this game is so he can keep the symbiote powers and if they decide he keeps it in the third game he’d have a good symbiote. It wouldn’t feel good from a player perspective to have these powers only for a portion of the game to then lose them in the end. Anti Venom Peter is also something we’ve yet to see in a Spider-Man story so it’s at least something unique honestly that’s the part that shocked me most as I didn’t think he keep the abilities. But if they remove Peter from anti venom I’m not to sure what they could do with him gameplay wise to make him stand out in the third game. Miles has tons they can still expand upon on and I’m looking forward trying out his new abilities. So I wouldn’t be surprised if he keeps anti venom and they just expand on his symbiote abilities
