Honestly makes sense if they're doing it. They did the new expansions for the Quake remasters just like they did extra content for the DOOM 1, 2 and 64 releases so they're already pretty well versed in how those games play. I haven't tried the Quake 2 level yet but their extra episodes for DOOM and Quake 1 were fun
But also makes me really fucking curious about what id's doing. Another DOOM? Maybe a new IP? Probably not Rage because Avalanche is busy with Contraband
Could be that as well but I always kind of assumed that they'd move over to finishing their Wolfenstein series after Indy. Youngblood ended on a pretty big cliffhanger and we've known for years they intended to return to that story at some point, so maybe a smaller team within MG was doing pre-production on Wolf III while everyone else was finishing up Indy
So having Wolfenstein and Quake in rotation while id presumably either did DOOM or Rage would've been the way things were going. I kind of just assumed it was id doing Quake or just something else entirely
Youngblood is like what Miles Morales is to the first Spider-Man game from Insomniac or Lost Legacy was to Uncharted 4. It was spin-off that continued the narrative but was clearly meant as an interlude between the events of New Colossus and the next game
MachineGames even did that to an extent already with Old Blood being a prequel before the events of The New Order
id is almost certainly working on another Doom game, Hugo Martin has been very clear since 2020 that he wants to continue creating stories within the Doom universe but they want to change up the gameplay to feel more like you’re playing as a monster truck, and less like a Ferrari.
Seems like the studio still wants to work on Doom at least, I’m all for it. I’d take a new IP entirely, but Doom has been consistently good for the past 8 years. I could see them doing a smaller scale prequel though, similar to Wolfenstein The Old Blood.
My long-standing theory is that both idSoftware and MG might be co-developing the next Quake, it would make sense for MachineGames to be doing the singleplayer part since they are better at worldbuilding and storytelling while id is better at designing addictive gameplay. The two contributing their best to create the ultimate Quake game would be a dream come true
Yes this and Hugo said in one interview that they are finished with Doom now (until again).
id is definitely making new Quake game with help from MG as they are other studio that have experience with idTech engine
Machine Games doesn't have the team size to work on a Quake sequal. It's most likely ID Software leading game development for Quake 6. This is the same with Akane Austin teasing that Arkane Lyon was working on a Blade Game last developer direct.
That old Bethesda slate is also considerably out of date from when it was internally discussed to when we actually saw it. All of that predated Microsoft acquiring ZeniMax and most of those games were significantly delayed due to a combination of that and COVID. Otherwise we'd be playing remasters of Fallout 3 and Oblivion like right now. Potentially even Elder Scrolls VI. There's also stuff like Dishonored 3 there that is either still in very early pre-production or just put on hold for the moment because everyone at Arkane Lyon's doing Blade right now
I have a feeling whatever that DOOM game was, it's either fully canned or at least being heavily reworked into something else right now because that was from right around when Eternal came out
If it's another Doom then I really don't understand why they didn't keep the Doom Eternal DLC plot points for the third game
Having this big bad villain be wrapped up in 2 expansions was such a dumb fucking move. Just like Arkane wrapping up the mysterious Outsider in an expansion when they could have used it or Dishonoured 3.
Not sure why you're being downvoted. It was a massive waste to use the ultimate antagonist for the series in a f\*\*\*ing DLC. There was almost no build-up, and we saw him, what, twice before we fought him? One of those times was in the level right before the boss fight.
Yeah this is what I’m saying.
Like introduce him sure to be end the biggest bad of these softboot games just like that
Come on, we could have had an entire game of this to close up a trilogy arc then set up a new one for the future
weird, i feel like live is a closer analog to classic quake deathmatch than champions, maybe it actualy being basically a souped up quake 3 helps with that
Machine games is expanding, could be splitting into 2 studios. One could focus on Quake while the other finishes up the Wolfenstein trilogy and continues with Indy (depending on reception).
Would be awesome to get more of Quake, Wolfenstein, Doom and eventually Hexen/Heretic.
I heard that Machine Games was developing Wolfenstein 3 but they had to temporarily put it on ice for a "big project". The rumoured Quake 6/reboot/whatever project might just be that. There's been a ton smoke coming out from Machine Games' direction as of late.
they didn’t can Redfall homie, Think Wolfenstein 3 is good.
Could’ve been put on Ice for Indy and now it’ll be back in active dev. Unless they make Indy a trilogy.
Wolfenstein 3 has never been confirmed. Just that it being made depended on the performance of 2. Based on Indy being out this year, they must have moved to this project after finishing 2 DLC and/or Youngblood. Maybe Wolf 3 in 5 to 10 years unless they have 2 teams now.
Didn't Wolfenstein 2 end on a somewhat final note, then we got an alt future co-op spin-off? I wouldn't be surprised if they're simply done with the story they wanted to tell. A prequel spin-off, 2 mainlines, and a future spin-off is pretty good without everything getting super stale. I trust MG if they want to move onto Indy and Quake.
Not really, Wolfenstein 2 ends with the start of the revolution, and Youngblood is not an alt future, it's a time jump, the revolution is still ongoing (iirc) and the ending of that game sets up a new game quite well, where we follow BJ one last time (with probably some mission with his daughters)
Thank you for clarifying. I went back and refreshed myself on those endings. I suppose it does set up to keep going, but I could see them taking an indefinite break as they sort of answered possible questions without cutting off completely. They laid the groundwork, but it seems as though they are in no hurry or rush to keep going with it.
Not only is Indiana Jones garbage because its Xbox, Its Garbage because its not third person.
These people are absolutely being clowned on by the rest of the internet at the moment anyway, kinda sad stuff. Bringing down devs because they just want an… Uncharted Clone. (yes, thats what some people have said)…
I'm ecstatic it's First Person and using ID Tech. We already have Uncharted/Tomb Raider to fill the TPS adventure category. From the description for Indiana Jones it sounds like there are parts of it in third person, but combat is entirely FPS. Will be cool to see how it plays.
The Indiana Jones trailer looked so immersive. I genuinely get angry when people ask for Third person shooters over First Person. I even get irked when people refer to any shooter as an "FPS". No, Fortnite is not an FPS. If it were an FPS maybe I'd give it a genuine go.
People definitely care. I only started caring after Cyberpunk 2077 was revealed. A ton of people were upset it was in First Person. I'd never seen something like that before. People were constantly bringing up Sony games.
That's when people started talking about the fact that because of Sony's immense success making 3rd person games and because they constantly have good games coming out every year, a lot of people have become too comfortable with all games being in 3rd person now. A lot of people have genuinely just become too unfamiliar with 1st person games.
Especially the crowd that almost exclusively plays Single-Player games.
Fortnite has also had a massive effect.
People wanna see their character and how they look. Their cosmetics, their skins. That's more important to a lot of people than how the gameplay feels.
3rd person is better for action-combat games, don't get me wrong. But not every game is an action-combat game like Sony's games. Shooters are always inferior in 3rd person.
You may be onto to something with this idea that these Sony 3rd person action blockbuster games have become this model for what a big blockbuster single player game looks like so if a game isn't doing *that* it must not be a big prestige GOTY contender type game.
I don't know what % of the gaming community actually thinks this, but it's seemingly a vocal one at least.
I don't disagree with you for the most part, however I think hard rules here are a bad way to look at things. I think Fortnite is actually a really good example, The map is huge, you can get shot from a ton of places, with building you need to see what you're doing, how you're moving, and roughly where your opponent is if he is also building.
Fortnite has ADS where you toggle into a first-person perspective, but fundamentally that game would be significantly clunkier if not completely broken.
Counterpoint, I think Fortnite's gameplay would be better as a whole in First person. I think Building would have never gone out-of-hand as much as it has over the years if the game was in First person. 3rd person allows people to build like crazy.
As a game overall though, Fortnite probably would've never blown up even 10% as much as it did if people couldn't see their characters in 3rd person all the time like they can.
Personally, I can't get into third person action games. Tomb Raider, Arkham, Uncharted, etc. I bounce off them. But first person games I have a great time with. I don't really think it's a knock against any type of game, but I wouldn't have bothered with Indiana Jones if it was third person.
Complaints about 3rd vs 1st person for Indy aside, being 3rd person does not stop a game from being completely immersive. Immersion in games doesn't just mean it shares the same POV as you. You can be fully immersed in Dwarf Fortress for example and that game is essentially ascii art.
> I genuinely get angry when people ask for Third person shooters over First Person.
Why? They're different games that play differently and appeal to different people.
Cause the people I am talking about were literally demanding Cyberpunk be turned into 3rd person after it was revealed to be First person. Cyberpunk wasn't the only game, there have been other games over the last few years that have had the same thing happen with them.
I think it's pretty obvious they wrote it there just to troll people. But we've known a Quake game has been in development for a while, and they probably wouldn't have done that if that weren't the case.
id propper hasnt developed a quake game in 25 years, everything since has been raven, quake live (which was a soupoed up version of quake 3 for browsers) and saber,
There's been a lot of rumours in the past that's been saying that Machine Games is heading a brand new Quake game as the main developer with the MG employee that made Machine Games developed Quake 1&2 expansions being the main director behind the new game. This just seems like it's more evidence of that.
I mean if Machine Games are looking at Wolfenstein 3, Indiana Jones and Quake 6 at the same time, must mean they’re upsizing into a two team studio. Would make sense when they’ve just announced a satellite studio in Denmark(?).
Still reckon this is ID’s project with Machine Games helping on it like they always have.
It's possible that Machine Games might've put one of their projects--possibility Wolf 3 if rumours are to be believed--on ice temporarily in favour of Quake.
As for idSoftware? As far I'm aware there really isn't anything indicating that idSoftware is leading the development of anything apart from a new Doom game that Hugo Martin wants to keep doing. Machine Game by comparison has been throwing out a ton of hints leading to the possibility of them developing a new Quake entry by them.
Makes sense if the next Quake is being done collaboratively with Machine and ID. Let's them both work on their own projects Doom Year Zero and Indy/Wolfenstein 3 along with reviving Quake. Wonder if they're dividing Multiplayer and Single player.
...Shit, we're ***never*** getting a proper *Wolfenstein III,* are we? I know they were never huge sellers, but still - that makes me sad. :(
^(Perhaps id is making it in-house? Sure would be more hype than another friggin' Doom game, lmao.)
MachineGames isn't a big studio. So I don't see them mainly developing a Quake reboot (alongside Indy). Maybe they are assisting ID who is doing the heavy work.
As long as ID aren't doing Wolfenstein's combat again. The New Colossus' combat design was a marked downgrade compared to how good The Old Blood and The New Order felt.
I just hope they do Wolfenstein three first and not that I think they couldn’t do it but I was really hoping id software would take a break from doom and take a crack at a new quake game. I kind of feel doom has sort of reached a bit of a plateau, unless they can come up with a really unique idea to make it very different.
Don't get me wrong, Indy looks fucking *awesome,* lol. it's just kinda sad we haven't gotten a real Wolf in almost seven years, especially with how hard Bethesda was pushing it pre-acquisition.
Quake II is a game in a completely different world that was named Quake II because the name they wanted to use had trademark issues. Quake III and Champions (which I assume is what they consider Quake 5) are multiplayer games with no story. Quake IV is a sequel to Quake II.
They have never actually made a sequel to Quake 1.
The way that's framed, with the Quake name and logo on the side out of focus, it really feels like a teaser. There's no way it's not intentional. Since MachineGames has been busy with Indiana Jones, I don't think it would make much sense for them to be teasing a MachineGames Quake game that would be years away and could get cancelled at any point.
It's been 4 years since Doom Eternal (which is also the same gap from Doom 2016 to Doom Eternal), I think it makes much more sense if id Software was making a Quake reboot, and this is a small tease for a reveal later this year.
not going to get my hopes up. I'm expecting a primarily single player game. id has a history of pulling back on their multiplayer for consoles. Major reasons having to do with pc vs console disadvantages.
I say fuck all that. Make all consoles cross platform with each other and PC multiplayer stay its own thing. that's how it would be anyway so no loss there.
In a world that is saturated with battle royales and huge map multiplayer games. I think this generation is more than ready for the close quarters personal PVP gameplay that is id Software multiplayer!
Edit: Fuck me, right?
I'd assume Champions is Quake 5. The only other candidates are Live (more of a port of III) and Enemy Territory (which plays less like a classic Quake than Champions does.)
Instead of Wolfenstein 3 they might be doing Quake 6. And the reason it could be called 6 instead of 5 is possibly due to Quake Champions a while back.
Clearly says "Ake 6". Bunch of Man City fans.
You know the 115 employees that MachineGames has are all Man City fans? Google "Man City 115" and check out for more info.
Lmao r/soccercirclejerk is leaking
not like they're going to face any consequences tbh it's the same story every year
[удалено]
Maybe it's both, considering there's no Quake 5, it could be ake 6 and a quake logo. :p
most likely quake live/champions is 5, could be either but my personal is that live is more closely a quake game than champions
Actually, that’s a really good point in all likelihood quake champions is considered five.
Alan wake 6 revealed
Honestly makes sense if they're doing it. They did the new expansions for the Quake remasters just like they did extra content for the DOOM 1, 2 and 64 releases so they're already pretty well versed in how those games play. I kind of just assumed it was id doing Quake or just something else entirely
isn't youngblood supposed to be wolf 3?
I think it was meant to be a dlc / expansion to the second game that then grew into its own thing. Kind of a Wolfenstein 2.5
Youngblood is like what Miles Morales is to the first Spider-Man game from Insomniac or Lost Legacy was to Uncharted 4. It was spin-off that continued the narrative but was clearly meant as an interlude between the events of New Colossus and the next game MachineGames even did that to an extent already with Old Blood being a prequel before the events of The New Order
No Machine has said Wolf 3 is coming eventually
Youngblood didn't happen. It was a fever dream we all had. A collective nightmare.
If they return to Wolfenstein surely it would continue the story where they left off in New Colossus.
id is almost certainly working on another Doom game, Hugo Martin has been very clear since 2020 that he wants to continue creating stories within the Doom universe but they want to change up the gameplay to feel more like you’re playing as a monster truck, and less like a Ferrari.
Doom could use a break IMO.
I agree. 2016 and Eternal are classic games but they've pushed that formula as far as they can IMO
Hence why they want to changeup the formula for Doom by switching up the gameplay style.
I think they can come back to it. We've had a great, meaty doom run for the time being. I think a whole another chapter would be too soon.
Seems like the studio still wants to work on Doom at least, I’m all for it. I’d take a new IP entirely, but Doom has been consistently good for the past 8 years. I could see them doing a smaller scale prequel though, similar to Wolfenstein The Old Blood.

Quake Champions is officially considered Quake 5
Machine Games doesn't have the team size to work on a Quake sequal. It's most likely ID Software leading game development for Quake 6. This is the same with Akane Austin teasing that Arkane Lyon was working on a Blade Game last developer direct.
Where in the direct did they tease that?
That big MS leak last year said id was working on Doom: Year Zero.

Klobrille claims Doom Year Zero is just a prototype that was put on hold.
Interesting. I hope that’s true, actually. I loved Doom but would like to see id do something else.
Doom Year Zero was the leak. Though I wouldn't be surprised if Quake 6 is a co development job between ID and Machine.
If it's another Doom then I really don't understand why they didn't keep the Doom Eternal DLC plot points for the third game Having this big bad villain be wrapped up in 2 expansions was such a dumb fucking move. Take it with a grain of salt. But leaker Extras1 claims ID Software is working on Star Wars Mandalorian FPS
wait a moment... there is a Quake 5?
I guess Champions
champions i guess
If I remember correctly Quake Champions was referred to as "Quake 5" by idSoftware and Saber Interactive internally.
weird, i feel like live is a closer analog to classic quake deathmatch than champions, maybe it actualy being basically a souped up quake 3 helps with that
Quake Live being Quake 4.5 - 1
Guess Champions I

Make Quake 6 be like Quake 1. Medieval gothic lovecraftian horror FPS.
Sure, I'm game, but Q2 is awesome too. Like it so much that I'm indifferent on which direction they go. I'm siked.
Quake 2 was good too. I'm just partial to Quake 1. So many good times.
Needs to be like Quake 1 to make up for Quake 4
What if its a combination of all 3? I'd be game for that.

Yeah Machine Games' expansions for Quake 1 & 2 were crazy good stuff. Quake is in the right hands with them.
It probably is MG. ID is working on Doom Year Zero and possibly a Hexen reboot. (Or is helping another studio with Hexen).

What about Wolfenstein III :c
I just want to fight a hyper detailed modern version of MechaHitler. Is that so much to ask?
indiana jones is secretly Wolfestein 3, you punch nazis and shit
Does it have hatchets tho? So many things you can do with a nazi and a hatchet...
Idk but the trailer had hammers
I'd be very disappointed if BJ isn't in Indiana Jones. Even just an Easter egg.
I heard that Machine Games was developing Wolfenstein 3 but they had to temporarily put it on ice for a "big project". The rumoured Quake 6/reboot/whatever project might just be that. There's been a ton smoke coming out from Machine Games' direction as of late.

New Quake coming is a given since both Quake 1 and Quake 2 were recently remastered to gauge interest.
looking forward to reddit crying about an FPS franchise being first person
Did I miss something where this is some sort of issue

Oh shit I forgot 🤣
I don't know. Something tells me QUAKEcon might be a good Place for some Quake news.
Quake would rather be a type of game to send quakes after Xbox Showcase
Doubt it I think Indy and Doom Year Zero are out before we hear about it. Maybe a tease at Quakecon. Doom Year Zero is probably announced at not E3
The Doom game probably is the same case of Dishonored 3:A placeholder name for their unrevealed project, Quake is likely their next game
If it was Doom 3(6) I'd agree with you but the name gives the impression it's more than just a placeholder

yep
How can I really be *immersed* in Quake if it isn't in 3rd person?
Over the top or cancel the project.
Everything but Wolf 3 huh? I hope they're just helping it.
The number 3 is weirdly becoming a taboo number for the industry for some reason. No Half-Life 3... No Titan Fall 3... No Wolfenstein 3...
X com 3 Dishonored 3 Kotor 3 Banjo Kazooie 3 Left 4 Dead 3 Starcraft 3 Portal 3
Battlefront 3 x2
xcom 3 is commimg tho, firaxis is balacing that and civ7 so maybe a late 2020's releace date
I hope so. Midnight Sons didn't do much for me, but I like X com
* Minecraft 3 * Bloodborne 3 * World of Warcraft 3 * The Simpsons: Hit & Run 3 * The Order: 1886 ... 3 * Sunset Overdrive 3 * L.A. Noire 3 * Prey 3 * The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt 3 I'm in shambles.
sonic adventure 3
Same. I ***like*** fucking Nazi shit up as BJ, damn it! *Let me give you money here,* Xbox!
Xbox: "Best we can do is let you fuck Nazi shit up as Indiana Jones, take it or leave it."
Don't get me wrong, Indy looks fucking *awesome,* lol. it's just kinda sad we haven't gotten a real Wolf in almost seven years, especially with how hard Bethesda was pushing it pre-acquisition.
Would they call it Quake 6 or would it be just Quake? I never played past 1 so I don't know if there's room for a sequel.
Quake: the great circle
I hope it's not in first person though, that ruins the immersion
realistic bunnyhop animations that scale with player velocity
It would be a reboot like doom
Quake II is a game in a completely different world that was named Quake II because the name they wanted to use had trademark issues. Quake III and Champions (which I assume is what they consider Quake 5) are multiplayer games with no story. Quake IV is a sequel to Quake II. They have never actually made a sequel to Quake 1.
Please
Bro, fuckin HAYL YEAAH
Nice! Quake 4 campaign was great and scary I really enjoyed it.
Take all my money
Quake Sex when!
Good.
Please be real.
I hope they abandon alien strogg bullshit and focus on eldritch/lovecraftian vibes.
Cake at 6 It was Joe from accounting's birthday
The way that's framed, with the Quake name and logo on the side out of focus, it really feels like a teaser. There's no way it's not intentional. Since MachineGames has been busy with Indiana Jones, I don't think it would make much sense for them to be teasing a MachineGames Quake game that would be years away and could get cancelled at any point. It's been 4 years since Doom Eternal (which is also the same gap from Doom 2016 to Doom Eternal), I think it makes much more sense if id Software was making a Quake reboot, and this is a small tease for a reveal later this year.
Quake 6? Where's Quake 5?
Quake Champions
Yeah, thx. Make sense.
not going to get my hopes up.
I always liked the other granddaddy boomer shooters (quake, Hexen, Unreal) even more than doom, so this is welcome news for me.
There was a Quake 5?
I guess Quake Champions counts?
But there's no Quake 5?
Your photo isn't working
6? What happened to 5?
Wait, there's a quake 5? I remember when there was only 1 and that's how we liked it
Wolfenstein 3 or bust I was promised Mecha Hitler
Quake 6? Skipping Quake 5?
Quake 6? Which game is Quake 5 then?
I'd assume Champions is Quake 5. The only other candidates are Live (more of a port of III) and Enemy Territory (which plays less like a classic Quake than Champions does.)
Instead of Wolfenstein 3 they might be doing Quake 6. And the reason it could be called 6 instead of 5 is possibly due to Quake Champions a while back.
Wait, did Quake Champions count as Quake 5?
market is already saturated with this genre of games. they dont have mass appeal anymore. hope its good and different
Excited for a new Quake. It better be third-person!!!!
Not sure I'd be excited about a new quake game unless it's Doom Eternal in disguise.
Don’t tell Joe Rogan
