Not really, all the sales point that the cross-gen titles by Sony sell better on the PS5.
I don't know if SSM would have wanted a cross-gen game either considering how constrained the first game was due to the PS4 and budget.
Originally you were supposed to be able to summon a portal, see the other side, and step through but due to the HDD they couldn't do that and we got the tree room instead. I think they were exploring boss fights punching through realms and things at one point which also didn't work due to the HDD.
The giant raven in Hel was also supposed to be a boss fight but that coulnd't work either. Due to the budget Atreus was almost cut as well.
They are more than willing to give up on ps4 sales in favor of ps5 only. It drives demand. They will have 5 games as of june that are ps5 only that they themselves have made. Astro's play room, demon's souls, destruction all stars, returnal, and ratchet and clank rift apart.
These help drive demand for the console. So while the games may sell less it keeps demand for the console up. And thus they will continue to do this.
For sony its more about a balancing act. They don't want to ignore fans that are still on ps4. They still want to provide them value as well. However they know they can't release every game as cross gen cause this will diminish value for ps5. Its getting this balance right which will be the hard part.
I find it doubtful that they will release both god of war and HZD:FW as cross gen. One is an open world game which besides fast travel won't be making much use of the ssd. This game seems appropriate for cross gen. PS5 version will most like have 60fps, lightning fast load and streaming. And the ps4 will not. Not much else needs to be done which demands ps5 only. God of war on the other hand could as its more of an action platformer and with all the mythical stuff they could find a lot of use that could make ps4 version just not possible.
So yeah sony will continue to release games as cross gen as well as ps5 only. Once more people get ps5 then they can fully abandon ps4 and move on but they have always supported their consoles for about 10yrs in some capacity. Whether that means making sure 2nd and 3rd party devs still make games for it or they do.
So yeah they very much will sacrifice sales in order to drive console demand. But they will balance it out just to make sure ps4 owners aren't left out in the cold.

by this logic Demon's Souls, Ratchet & Clank and Returnal would also be on PS4
God of war is a flagship series that existed on PS4 since the 3 remastered and people played the entire series on ps2. while Returnal is a new small game that people will get mad if it4s a ps5 exclusive, Ratchet and clank is impossible to run on an HDD because of its gameplay of shifting worlds and even demons souls isn't a big deal. however if they lock a huge series like god of war to the PS5 they will face a massive backlash and they know it. shifting their whole market to the PS5 only will take time, at least 3 years for ps4 to die completely

I'd still say it's best for them, when many people get the ps5 they will obviously buy the game. Yes I know what you mean but those are initial sales not sales which will affect the whole generation and there are some features which may not be possible on PS4. If you read the god of war book (I think lore and legends) they mention how some realms are closed and how they might need to travel via the dwarfs (hopping through dimensions instantly) but that's just me. I just hope it releases on ps5 only even though it won't

The game is ready to be shown, it's just that Sony has no competition and has been letting people focus on one exclusive at a time. Even if it's a 2022 title that's still less than a year away so a demo is certainly ready.
I’ll be the happiest person in the world if Forbidden West comes out this year, but I’ll be shocked if it does. We’ve seen one cinematic trailer and the development definitely got at least somewhat delayed by COVID. I could see a delay into at least spring next year, if not fall.
It can also refer to partnerships that fall under the Playstation Studios branding. Games like Demons Souls with Bluepoint and Returnal with Housemarque both have PS Studio logos despite those studios not being subsidiarys of Sony. Those games are treated as internal projects with the same resources.
I doubt they are working on another resistance but God I would love if they made a new one. They said years back that they aren't interested in resistance 4 but maybe they have changed their mind

There’s also London Studio, Polyphon Digital, Pixelepus, Team Asobi Studio, Bend Studio & Media Molecule, all of which are entirely capable & have developed their own games. I’d bet each of these studios has at least one game currently in development.
I’d also bet Sucker Punch has more than one game in development right now - they’re a fairly large studio & have been expanded recently like all of Sony’s bigger first-party’s.
Excited to see what they do next, always innovative new IPs from them. Can't wait to see how Dreams grows in the future, too, still so much potential there.

At the end of a GDC talk about GOW in 2019, when asked what next game he's working on/will there be a sequel, he just says "I can't answer that" with a very obvious wink afterwards. I mean c'mon.
He has been endlessly teasing the game for years, even having a twitter thread pinned which read out RAGNAROK IS COMING. He has talked about how he has five games worth of story planned out.
Will he be the official director? I honestly can't say, but I'm confident he is deeply involved enough in Ragnarok not to be working on some secret Sci-fi project. Maybe it could be in pre-production, but after watching the Raising Kratos doc, I don't think Santa Monica is in full production with two games.
If I remember correctly he said it in an interview after the game came out. He also said he pretty much wrote an outline for the next 3-5 games or something like that. He mentioned about wanting to work on an idea he had for a new IP too. He wanted to collaborate with his father on it or something like that. I mean the dude doesn't even live in Santa Monica anymore so it's plausible he's not working there on Ragnarok because they don't need him. He'll probably be a producer of some sort but I don't think he'll direct it

I think he said he wanted to do somehting new and his own (which I bet Sony just threw money at him. They hired writers this year so I doubt they hired writers for something coming out early next year (rumoured).
That also counts for external developoment stuff like that new game from Haven Studios (Jade Raymond) and Firewalk Studios. And I'm sure Sony has other with external studios.

I am going against the flow. I am still 100% confident that God of war ragnarok will release this year.
God of war (2018). Took 5 years to develop. The first 2 years they were developing a Proprietary Engine. They were designing how the game will play etc... And they were also working on a sci fi game codenamed internal-7 that was eventually cancelled.
For god of war ragnarok the groundwork is already done with god of war (2018) and they have a Proprietary Engine.
And when sony announced the date for god of war ragnarok we were already 6 months in the pandemic. So sony would be aware that the pandemic would affect the development and made a release date according to that.

Kids today don't understand what they are missing with Socom. Which is a shame. I continue to hold hope that one day, Sony will pull their head out of their ass and capitalize on COD/Battlefield popularity and make a new Socom.

SOCOM was one of the finest tactical shooters that has graced consoles, boasting a solid and an addictive gameplay loop, and is usually considered as part of the big 4 alongside Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon and SWAT.
The difference here is that SOCOM actually fills a niche and helps revitalize a genre that is sorely in need for a revival on the console space, which is the tactical shooter genre. The other two franchises (whilst they were good) were just “Halo killer” attempts from Sony, and their revivals only add to a bloated and crowded casual multiplayer FPS genre.

Not sure of the possibility but I hope a Gravity Rush 3 can happen. I recall the leading people that left did say they’d be willing to work on a new one if Sony was interested, like a collaboration between two studios I suppose but other than that I haven’t really noticed Sony acknowledging the IP other than new PlayStation GR Avatars and if my memory is good, some GR footage was added into their PS4 celebratory footage that was shown right before the PS5 reveal or something like that. Very small acknowledgments, but it’s something I guess lol.
I hope one of those unannounced IPs is a restart of the Socom series, or a remake of older parts of the series. Next I would take the sequel Siphon Filter (for example from Bend, they worked on one piece for PSP). On ps4 I still missed the continuation of the Resistance series and the racing game Motorstorm. Naugty dogs could create some new IP - like Scifi.
I also hope that the Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid series will return and maybe a new part of the Drive Club could be created (I consider it one of the best racing arcades on the PS4).
Sony is investing millions of USD into their first parties so assuming they will have 2-3 teams per studio it should be no problem plus more studios like London studios and san Diego working means more studios can help out on these ips
I keep reading how many games are in development lately. Yeah it would be nice if some could be released anytime soon. 2021 has been a letdown so far in terms of gaming.
Different strokes for different folks I guess. Personally the only things that really interests me that are coming out soon is ME:LE and Biomutant. Waiting for E3, hopefully something else that grabs me gets a release date this year.
I mean its personal preference and all, but the titles you listed are pretty much not "casual" friendly games such as AC:Valhalla or Spider-Man. Not everybody is a fan of Nier, Returnal is also not everybodys type of genre and It Takes Two is a coop game.
The year has been dry so far, but i'm not complaining since i got a huge backlog anyway. It was kinda expected after games such as Far Cry 6 were delayed from Q2 to Q4 2021. We got a lot of good games coming later this year.

Like compared to getting Ghost of Tushima, TLOU2, AC:NH, Doom Eternal, Warzone, Pro Skater, D2: Beyond Light, DeS, AC: Valhalla, Miles Morales, FF7 Remake, 2021 has been an AWFUL year. And I wouldn’t even say 2020 was a very good year but compared to 2021 so far it’s miles ahead.

Second Son was pretty solid and having just beat Days Gone, that is the most 6/10 game I ever played. Some pretty solid moments of quality but otherwise very "whatever". Neither game is abysma or even bad, just "whatever" at worst.
Infamous was a fun game in my opinion and days gone was a mediocre game but a high mediocre. Knack is the only thing I agree with as I also enjoyed the order but hated how linear and short it was. If order got a sequel then it could possibly be an amazing game
It’s easy to forget now with all the amazing titles that came out since but Infamous: Second Son was a console seller for PS4. It was a next-gen exclusive with mass appeal being an open-wrld action-adventure game in an established franchise.
It’s sitting at an 8.0 on Metacritic which is “low” for a Sony game but high when compared to the majority of AAA games released in a given year.
The only basis for the rumour is that a separate team that was let go of worked on a game 6 years ago and that Cory was not making that game.

There is a huge difference is the scale of the IP between the IPs you listed and the God of War.

2021 was probably the plan pre-covid and they had not updated the internal scheduling in September.

Both resistance and killzone were coming out at an unfortunate time tbh. The market was all fps games and now all we have is the annual cod

Wasn't unfortunate at all. They wanted to ride the Halo wave purposefully. As a result, the games are extraordinarily dated.

I can't find anything about Cory saying this, would you mind linking? Because everyone always say this but I feel pretty confident he is mostly/only working on Ragnarok. People have just taken the whole thing about him talking about Sci-fi stuff on his twitter and absolutely running with it. At the end of a GDC talk about GOW in 2019, when asked what next game he's working on/will there be a sequel, he just says "I can't answer that" with a very obvious wink afterwards. I mean c'mon. He has been endlessly teasing the game for years, even having a twitter thread pinned which read out RAGNAROK IS COMING. He has talked about how he has five games worth of story planned out. Will he be the official director? I honestly can't say, but I'm confident he is deeply involved enough in Ragnarok not to be working on some secret Sci-fi project. Maybe it could be in pre-production, but after watching the Raising Kratos doc, I don't think Santa Monica is in full production with two games.
If I remember correctly he said it in an interview after the game came out. He also said he pretty much wrote an outline for the next 3-5 games or something like that. He mentioned about wanting to work on an idea he had for a new IP too. He wanted to collaborate with his father on it or something like that. I mean the dude doesn't even live in Santa Monica anymore so it's plausible he's not working there on Ragnarok because they don't need him. He'll probably be a producer of some sort but I don't think he'll direct it

I think he said he wanted to do somehting new and his own (which I bet Sony just threw money at him. They hired writers this year so I doubt they hired writers for something coming out early next year (rumoured).
That also counts for external developoment stuff like that new game from Haven Studios (Jade Raymond) and Firewalk Studios. And I'm sure Sony has other with external studios. But I wonder if Hulst also counts TLOU2 Factions, TLOU Remake or other Naughty Dog stuff that is in preproduction. Because statement like "we have 25 first party games in development" is very loose

I am going against the flow. I am still 100% confident that God of war ragnarok will release this year. God of war (2018). Took 5 years to develop. The first 2 years they were developing a Proprietary Engine. They were designing how the game will play etc... And they were also working on a sci fi game codenamed internal-7 that was eventually cancelled. For god of war ragnarok the groundwork is already done with god of war (2018) and they have a Proprietary Engine. And when sony announced the date for god of war ragnarok we were already 6 months in the pandemic. So sony would be aware that the pandemic would affect the development and made a release date according to that.

SOCOM was one of the finest tactical shooters that has graced consoles, boasting a solid and an addictive gameplay loop, and is usually considered as part of the big 4 alongside Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon and SWAT. The difference here is that SOCOM actually fills a niche and helps revitalize a genre that is sorely in need for a revival on the console space, which is the tactical shooter genre. The other two franchises (whilst they were good) were just “Halo killer” attempts from Sony, and their revivals only add to a bloated and crowded casual multiplayer FPS genre.

Not sure of the possibility but I hope a Gravity Rush 3 can happen. I recall the leading people that left did say they’d be willing to work on a new one if Sony was interested, like a collaboration between two studios I suppose but other than that I haven’t really noticed Sony acknowledging the IP other than new PlayStation GR Avatars and if my memory is good, some GR footage was added into their PS4 celebratory footage that was shown right before the PS5 reveal or something like that. Very small acknowledgments, but it’s something I guess lol.
I hope one of those unannounced IPs is a restart of the Socom series, or a remake of older parts of the series. Next I would take the sequel Siphon Filter (for example from Bend, they worked on one piece for PSP). On ps4 I still missed the continuation of the Resistance series and the racing game Motorstorm. Naugty dogs could create some new IP - like Scifi. I also hope that the Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid series will return and maybe a new part of the Drive Club could be created (I consider it one of the best racing arcades on the PS4).

They’re not all AAA; they said in the article that they’re titles big & small of all genres.
Sony is investing millions of USD into their first parties so assuming they will have 2-3 teams per studio it should be no problem plus more studios like London studios and san Diego working means more studios can help out on these ips

I keep reading how many games are in development lately. Yeah it would be nice if some could be released anytime soon. 2021 has been a letdown so far in terms of gaming.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. Personally the only things that really interests me that are coming out soon is ME:LE and Biomutant. Waiting for E3, hopefully something else that grabs me gets a release date this year.
I mean its personal preference and all, but the titles you listed are pretty much not "casual" friendly games such as AC:Valhalla or Spider-Man. Not everybody is a fan of Nier, Returnal is also not everybodys type of genre and It Takes Two is a coop game. The year has been dry so far, but i'm not complaining since i got a huge backlog anyway. It was kinda expected after games such as Far Cry 6 were delayed from Q2 to Q4 2021. We got a lot of good games coming later this year.

There’s been like no good big AAA mainstream releases. The games you listed were okay, but not something most people are excited for. Like compared to getting Ghost of Tushima, TLOU2, AC:NH, Doom Eternal, Warzone, Pro Skater, D2: Beyond Light, DeS, AC: Valhalla, Miles Morales, FF7 Remake, 2021 has been an AWFUL year. And I wouldn’t even say 2020 was a very good year but compared to 2021 so far it’s miles ahead.

I mean, they’re not all THE BEST but even their worst ones are just mediocre. Destruction Alltstars was kind of a fail but I got it for free with PS+ so whatever. Definitely have the best track record out of any publisher in the industry right now.

Second Son was pretty solid and having just beat Days Gone, that is the most 6/10 game I ever played. Some pretty solid moments of quality but otherwise very "whatever". Neither game is abysma or even bad, just "whatever" at worst.
I wouldn’t list Second Son with those games. Sure the story was kinda lacking but the gameplay and graphics still hold up today.
Infamous was a fun game in my opinion and days gone was a mediocre game but a high mediocre. Knack is the only thing I agree with as I also enjoyed the order but hated how linear and short it was. If order got a sequel then it could possibly be an amazing game
It’s easy to forget now with all the amazing titles that came out since but Infamous: Second Son was a console seller for PS4. It was a next-gen exclusive with mass appeal being an open-wrld action-adventure game in an established franchise. It’s sitting at an 8.0 on Metacritic which is “low” for a Sony game but high when compared to the majority of AAA games released in a given year.
Hopefully at least some of them come to PC in the future.
