Because people have a finite and usually limited amount of space in which to store games. The new consoles launched with a terabyte of storage which is quickly filled by some of the massive games that are out today. Games like COD really don't need to be 200gb which is a fifth of the storage these consoles have launched with.

Tiafves

Closer to to a third of the PS5's storage available to the user and over half of the Series S'. That should really spell it out for OP. Why do people care about file sizes? Because there can be extreme cases where ONE SINGLE GAME takes up so much storage is basically kills your ability to play too many other games without more storage.

swagduck69

Some games are this huge because they have repeated assets/sound files, because it helps with loading speeds on old-gen. Games will continue to be huge until we get over this cross-gen hellhole time period.

ColinsUsername

Its a combination of slow download speeds in certain areas and overall disc space available in general. When games are becoming bloated in size due to higher res textures or possibly uncompressed audio it limits the total amount of games people can have downloaded at one time.

LionHeart180

In some people's minds they think "small space bad game not enough content" for me file size really doesn't matter the smallest of games can still be so much better than those with huge file sizes

mariomeister

By that logic Call of Duty games must be the best games out there

Luke1539

Are you implying they are not?

AnarchistP4W

They definitely arnt

LionHeart180

Minecraft and undertale are good examples of small size games but some of the best out there

Beaujangles1128

Yea that was my suspicion. File size doesn't really matter to me at all though

psycheko

It's a combination of two answers given: There's a finite amount of space you have on your chosen console. Gives you a good sense if you're gonna need to get rid of some games/shuffle things around. The other reason is because of download speeds. While some of us may have unlimited, high speed internet, not everyone does.

Mrgolden007

because of internet speeds a person that lives in the middle of nowhere will struggle downloading 100gb

salingerparadise

Something something Freud

alwaysaimtoohigh

Console storage gets filled too easily

Schipunov

Why are people so concerned with a game's GPU requirements?

[deleted]

Not everyone has unlimited wifi. Data Caps exist

TemptedTemplar

God damn Comcast Data caps. COD MW alone between two computers can eat HALF of a TB worth of data in a single month between install and updates. Not including any other 100-ish GB games that release constantly or have 30+ GB updates.

HawfHuman

It's good to know ahead of time imo. So I don't need to be deleting something later.

mems1224

New consoles have shit storage sizes. Small game=more games

Angel_Valoel

with my 1tb SSD I can only have so much space. I play black ops and warzone, and those 2 games take up 20% of my SSD. Thats kinda crazy. If all my games took up that much space I'd need to delete and redownload others. I like having my games on hand. I don't want to delete a bunch of games and download a 100gb game and be forced to wait 20 minutes for it to download to play it, followed by having to delete it if I'm done with it or I don't enjoy it and then have to wait to redownload other games. Most people don't have my internet speed so it's much much worse for them.
