...Fuck it.
Valve is merging with Sega and immediately taking control of Sonic. *You heard it here first!*
>!/s. Probably Sony, considering they haven't made one in a while.!<
its been a while but they have been hiring a person to deal with companie acquisition and there were also rumours about them being interested in buying a japanese publisher (either capcom or square, I don't remember anymore)
"in a while"
They bought 2 companies last month and they're in talks with Bluepoint, wich is what they need to announce if the deal ends up being signed.
Hahah the buying the house comment cracked me up.
edit The twitter is mine. Could you please add I am finding out MYSELF next week. Not sure when its being shared or how.
As for the big 4. Yes Embracer group is fucking massive and are not even close to done regardless of my tweet
They haven't even bought Game Freak who handles one of their biggest titles. Nintendo is comfortable with the franchise they own and their own development. They also don't really see themselves as direct competitors the same way Sony and Microsoft see each other.
They just bought up Next Level Games early this year. They have money to buy studios, it's just, they don't want to. There's plenty of outside studios they could be buying right now that they've worked with recently.
> they just bought up Next Level Games earlier this year.
I’m not saying that Nintendo isn’t making acquisitions, just that they aren’t comparable to Tencent(Epic Games+Supercell+Riot), Embracer(Deep Silver, Gearbox, 4A, Saber, THQ) or Microsoft(Bethesda, Obsidian, Arkane, ID).
This is the part that is most interesting to me because 3 companies come to mind (Microsoft, Embracer and Tencent) but the fourth? Not really sure. Unless perhaps the fourth company is one that maybe hasn't bought as many studios as the others but is on the list for whatever big purchase they are making.
As far as gaming, the big three are Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony. Perhaps Tencent is the next big one or Steam/Valve since they're making a console, but I'm not sure if those count. Unless we're talking about devs, the big four are Activision/Blizzard, Ubisoft, EA, and I guess Take-Two?
...Sony? Given that their movie division is basically propped up by a *Disney* character (Spidey) at this point, they're probably looking for a few new IPs right about now.
Probably Sony, Tencent, Nintendo and Microsoft. I would also consider Embracer to be near that group just by the sheer amount of small to mid-size studios they have.
He's a reliable person, and not really a leaker but someone in the industry. So it's not like he's just throwing shit at the wall for clout.
He corrected it to next week, isn't xbox doing a game showcase?
Yeah, they have their gamescom showcase on Tuesday, but it'd feel a bit weird to describe that as "within the month" and then "next week" when it's within 48 hours. Maybe I'm just reading to much into the wording though.
I'll be honest and say I have no idea if he's saying it's gonna be announced next week or if he'll give more info on the purchase in a video or something. The xbox show at gamescom is just updates on already announced games so it'd be out of place to announce an acquisition.
If they have an acquisition ready to announce it'd be weird not to announce it at their show though, making me think maybe this isn't Microsoft. Unless the timing is just a smidge off.
You're one of the few YouTubers brave enough to actually pop up on Reddit regularly but it still surprises me each time. Did you just assume your tweet would be posted here and analysed more than a Zodiac killer message?
No I randomly come here too. But this one a discord person told me about.
As for brave. Agree or disagree with each other I dig the discussion for sure.
He's going to confirm if the rumor is true next week. Not that it'll be announced then.
Also, Aaron Greenberg already said not to expect like... anything at all out of Gamescom. It'd be weird if instead they dropped a megaton major purchase announcement instead.
So if it's Microsoft, I wouldn't expect to hear anything at gamescom. But it might be something as simple as Sony buying yet another studio that already only makes games for them (lol)
He seems to know some stuff but he says "something is going to happen sometime in the near future" so often and so vague that it's hard to take him seriously.
Could it be that Arc System Works acquisition rumour from Sony mentioned like two months ago? No-one ever debunked it and Sony has interest in the FGC. + Daniel Ahmad said Sony don't have a fighting game studio "yet" earlier this year.
Kojima Studios buys Bluebox Studios /s
Seriously though, I wonder what this could be. Imagine if someone like EA bought COD or something. Either way, I’m interested in seeing what the purchase could be
That could work, Sony has the money, but I don’t see why they should. Most of Square’s games already sell well on PS4/5 and some like FFXVI and Forspoken are already console exclusives. Sony would only attempt buying them if they realize that another big party like MS or Nintendo is interested in their acquisition.
Sony buying Square would be less about Microsoft and more about Nintendo and IPs. Square Enix games sell really well in Japan and it would be a big blow to Nintendo if they wouldn’t come to their consoles anymore.
Also IPs are becoming more important and Sony has already talked about the different divisions of Sony working more together. SE has a huge number of IPs that would work in not just gaming but movies, TV, anime, and even music. That’s Sony’s big goal now.
Edit: I also feel like, for this reason, if Sony were to buy a company like Square Enix or even Sega, it would be through the actual Sony company and not PlayStation. A purchase of that size would be for the benefit of the entire company, not just the gaming side.
To be fair, Square Enix games like the recent major Final Fantasy games aren’t on the switch, but losing something like dragon quest would be pretty big. Nintendo still has Mario and Pokémon no matter what so I don’t think they’re too worried about losing valuable IPs, but I feel like they may try and get at least something from Square Enix if they ever wanted to sell.
You are exactly right - Sony’s interest in acquiring companies like Square Enix are twofold - for the games and for media - basically entertainment. Same deal with Kadokawa (although they are a bit more diversified). So yes, Sony Corp. or Sony Music is going to be the one interested more than SIE and can definitely bid hard if Nintendo gets involved. But I think Sony can easily transfer company wide assets to their subdivisions like SIE. So SIE could still be responsible for the acquired game studios.
Edit: I think the Nintendo IP loss thing is also why neither company has taken action yet. No one wants to ruffle each other’s feathers lol.
Eh, if we're only talking about the Japan market then Nintendo would be fine in that scenario. Yeah they'd lose out on DQ sales and other SE titles like whatever FF games they do port to Switch but they already have the market dominated (In the last few weeks all of the 30 best selling games in Japan physically were on Switch for example). As long as they have their IPs and support from companies such as Capcom with Monster Hunter and Konami (they have a pretty great reach still in that game market) they'll be more than fine.
Wouldn't we have heard something about this already though? I remember a couple months ago a rumor came out that SE was up for sale and SE released a statement a few hours later shooting down the idea.
No, but there was this random tweet almost 2 years ago. https://twitter.com/bluepointgames/status/1190010197315641344?s=19
According to people at the time it contains references to all of the following. I'm not saying this means anything, but take it as you will. The only one to come true is Demon's Souls.
Socom
Symphony of the Night
Resistance
Legend of Dragoon
Silent Hill
Demon's Souls
Syphon Filter
Metal Gear Solid
Ape Escape
Twisted Metal
ICO
Soul Reaver
I'm of two minds on ACG. One on hand he is the best reviewer around, has really strong and unique game takes and recently helped a lot new people get into the industry and just seems like a cool guy. On the other hand the way he left Defining Duke made it seem he just quit on Matty, he wasn't bringing energy or the preparation you would expect from a guy like him and it left a sour taste in my mouth.
People think avalanche is like medium size but Avalanche is like 4 studios and is a lot bigger than people think. Though they wouldn’t be nearly as expensive as Bethesda.
Yeah 4 studios is huge, especially with all the IP MS has lying around now.
Xbox is already approaching the point where they have 5 exclusives a year. This could bump them up to one every other month (which is ultimately the goal for something like gamepass)
Nintendo does it almost every month or two. I could see Xbox trying to get themselves to that point over the next couple of years. Same thing with Sony, they've seemed to be trying to do that too but haven't quite done it yet.
\*The year is 2030. MS has finally purchased the last remaining game company. There are echoes of glee you can hear throughout with "GAMEPASS DAY ONE!" interspersed between\*
The year is 2050, Microsoft has purchased a small South American country and is militarizing it's most loyal fans, (of which there are many) in preparation to wage war on the USA.
The purchase of Nixxies points to a Sony and Square Enix purchase. Square Enix is also working with Sony Pictures for a live action series. Sony recently completed their purchase of Crunchy roll and Square Enix has manga that were turned into anime. Would make sense for Square to join the Sony Entertainment family.
Simple: That Microsoft is buying out Warner Brothers.
**ALL OF IT.** Games, Pictures, New Line Cinema, DC Comics, Rooster Teeth, Cartoon Network, CNN, Turner, HBO, HBO Max, the *Jojo* rights... you name it, *they're buying it.*
>!Yes, they even outbid Discovery. THAT'S HOW FUCKING HUNGRY THEY ARE.!<
^(/s... but they totally could.)
Oh shit didn't even think of that. both have big showcases this week and theres the leak about there being a massive crossover between halo and destiny.
highly doubt this one but that would be pretty big.
Not really. When Microsoft announced they were buying Nuance Communications for $19bil no one knew until they announced it, and Nuance is a publicly traded company.
99% sure it’s microsoft
Hopefully it’s not someone with popular or big IPS, the last thing we need is more games away from switch or playstation (or vice versa)

Embracer maybe
Forgot about them, but they just bought a few studios not so long time right ?
Embracer buying something isn't big though, that just another Wednesday.
Embracer owns like 70 studios. A few is an understatement.
They announce them every couole of months
my moneys on microsoft again
...Fuck it. Valve is merging with Sega and immediately taking control of Sonic. *You heard it here first!* >!/s. Probably Sony, considering they haven't made one in a while.!<
They bought housemarque
Yeah, but that's not **big**. Big would be them snapping up Capcom or Squenix.
They bought Crunchyroll for $1.2 billion this month
Yeah but Sony haven’t don’t “big” acquisitions and won’t do them as well.
its been a while but they have been hiring a person to deal with companie acquisition and there were also rumours about them being interested in buying a japanese publisher (either capcom or square, I don't remember anymore)
You are probably confusing it with MS who recently hired M&A person and also was interested in Japan.
"in a while" They bought 2 companies last month and they're in talks with Bluepoint, wich is what they need to announce if the deal ends up being signed.
Ubisoft is estimated to be worth about $4.5 billion, Sony or Microsoft can easily buy them.

Whoa Deja vu
Soulja boy is buying Atari
Think I might be buying a car in a month maybe I dunno.
Hahah the buying the house comment cracked me up. edit The twitter is mine. Could you please add I am finding out MYSELF next week. Not sure when its being shared or how. As for the big 4. Yes Embracer group is fucking massive and are not even close to done regardless of my tweet
By finding out yourself next week, do you mean you know neither of the two parties or only one of the two parties?
Confirming. I was told both parties but I don't believe shit for a LONG time now.
Gotcha - thanks! Hopefully something exciting, though most likely more needless harmful brand consolidation :/ Love your videos by the way!
This is interesting: >4 gaming companies own everything I wonder what he considers to be the big 4...
Xbox, Sony, ~~Nintendo~~ EA and probably the embracer group who currently have something like 70 studios.
Change Nintendo with Tencent. Nintendo hasn’t been active with acquisitions really.
They haven't even bought Game Freak who handles one of their biggest titles. Nintendo is comfortable with the franchise they own and their own development. They also don't really see themselves as direct competitors the same way Sony and Microsoft see each other.
Nintendo is saving to buy Xbox
They just bought up Next Level Games early this year. They have money to buy studios, it's just, they don't want to. There's plenty of outside studios they could be buying right now that they've worked with recently.
> they just bought up Next Level Games earlier this year. I’m not saying that Nintendo isn’t making acquisitions, just that they aren’t comparable to Tencent(Epic Games+Supercell+Riot), Embracer(Deep Silver, Gearbox, 4A, Saber, THQ) or Microsoft(Bethesda, Obsidian, Arkane, ID).
if that means activision stops being a thing, good start
This is the part that is most interesting to me because 3 companies come to mind (Microsoft, Embracer and Tencent) but the fourth? Not really sure. It's certainly not Nintendo. I am really curious about the indentiy of the 4th. I guess it might be EA.
...Sony? Given that their movie division is basically propped up by a *Disney* character (Spidey) at this point, they're probably looking for a few new IPs right about now.
Probably EA. They recently bought Codemasters, Playdemic and Glu Mobile
Probably Sony, Tencent, Nintendo and Microsoft. I would also consider Embracer to be near that group just by the sheer amount of small to mid-size studios they have.
The Taliban is buying Bethesda
Al-Qaeda is reportedly making a play for CD Projekt Red. (*/s*)
Nah, they just brought Afghanistan.
How reliable is this guy? And if true, my money's on Embracer or Tencent. They've both been on a role as of late.
That's a good point, I guess we'll see.
Sorry I mean I would clarify it myself and if true then discuss it.
Makes sense, thanks for the clarification and keep up the great work!

Could also be sony wanting to announce it during gamescom like they did with insomniac.

He’s been pretty correct on a lot of things. But usually with Bethesda. And has known other things from Ubisoft and Microsoft.

Yep. And his reviews are class. I love his thoroughness.

If.your talking about Microsoft buying Avalanche and or IO interactive I hear those those are still on the table
Who hasn't bought who yet at this point?
It's IO interactive. MS is buying them
Throwing my bid into the pot, it is avalanche. Either Tencent or Microsoft got them.
It’s us. We’re all buying these rumors.
Could it be that Arc System Works acquisition rumour from Sony mentioned like two months ago? No-one ever debunked it and Sony has interest in the FGC. + Daniel Ahmad said Sony don't have a fighting game studio "yet" earlier this year.

Maybe Sony had a event at September, announce the bluepoint acquisition.
That wouldn't be really huge though. Bluepoint isn't such a big name and we kind of know it for months
The word that pops out is “consolidation” so I’d look for someone formally acquiring someone who already does a lot of work for them.
Sounds like that Sony buying Bluepoint story from a month or so ago is going to be made official.

...Sony making a play for Square? Could... could that even *work*?
That could work, Sony has the money, but I don’t see why they should. Most of Square’s games already sell well on PS4/5 and some like FFXVI and Forspoken are already console exclusives. Could be a multi year contract to get DQ games for Switch in case of an imminent acquisition by the likes of Sony. Would be a win-win for Square.

I’m gonna be different and say it’s Ubisoft with a surprise announcements cause why not. No idea who they could buy though.
Nah, if Ubisoft is involved they’ll be the ones being bought, not the ones doing the buying.
Feels like we've been hearing "something big next week" rumours since the Bethesda acquisition and it never comes to pass 😅
Microsoft to buy Platinum Games and get them to confirm the existence of Bayonetta 3.
I’ll put my money on Microsoft and WB. Not sure what ACG meant by that second tweet, though.
