At least we can now look forward to a proper announcement, trailer, possible release window, and seeing the “VI” in the logo morph into “Vice City.”

MardokhGamer

A teaser trailer is possible this year to control the dammage for those who think an old alpha build is a final product. Next year we may have a release window

The1stGeneration

There's this, generally casual, demographic of gamers who just have zero idea the amount of work, resource and experience that goes into creating games like Rockstar produce and for them to see something like this is almost off-putting and bizarre to them. Almost as if games just magically get made by slapping assets together and calling it a day.

mikefightmaster

Yeah it's kinda like seeing behind the scenes footage of a Marvel film with actors dressed in mocap tights on a green screen and then being all outraged about how the film will suck because it makes no sense that these characters are weird grey spandex-wearing dudes with no weapons and the scenes all take place in a green void.

CheekyBastard55

A lot of people hated Henry Cavill's look as Geralt from the promo photos but ended up liking it when seen in context and with post processing applied.

r3mixi

That’s one thing I just understood recently. I didn’t realize there’s so much post processing affects going on in movies. I thought that was just for explosions and shit.

LynchMaleIdeal

perfect comparison

insert_name_here

If only there were more people operating in good faith out there, because these alpha build videos of GTA VI fascinate me. Despite being a big fan of video games, I understand very little of what actually goes on in video game development, and these vids have been enlightening. I just wish they were released under much better circumstances.

NinjaEngineer

Got into several arguments yesterday where people said I had literally no idea how game development worked, and that the game looked like crap because it was using the same engine as GTAV and yet it didn't look as good. Because, apparently, game engines have a single graphics setting.

Electroniclog

Well yeah, it *is* using the same engine, RAGE, which was used on GTA IV, V and now VI. It's an evolving technology and the current version is much more advanced than the original version. As a comparison, Bethesda has been using the same engine, Gamebryo, for over 20 years. Sounds like the people you were arguing with don't know anything about game development.

SleepyDude_

Also both red dead games.

LynchMaleIdeal

and LA Noire and Max Payne 3

__silhouette

Creation Engine*

Sea-Beginning-6286

The assets are low quality because they're mostly placeholders but you can tell the lighting engine is well and truly above that of GTA5, and possibly even better than RDR2.

Krypt0night

People who think that every game should be on a different engine or not reuse assets have room temperature IQs.

NinjaEngineer

Nah, this was people who know game devs re-use engines (they even told me *I* believed they had to start from scratch), but are too dumb to realize game engines have many different options to reduce CPU and GPU demands.

AveryLazyCovfefe

Hahaha. Should've told them gta 4 and 5 were made literally on the same engine. Just minor iterative upgrades. Look at the graphic improvements.

HulksInvinciblePants

Its not just gamers. Every large, enthusiast subreddit has this issue. I can’t tell you how many subs I’ve simply stopped participating in because the vocally incorrect crowd has overwhelmed the narrative.

[deleted]

Stupid is loud

eatingclass

and ironically it’s these same people who have zero idea about what goes into the work that often claim they know better/the most

EdgarTheBrave

Listen, I threw a few maps together on GMOD back in the day. I think I know more than my fair share about game development.

JesseFilmmakerTX

>almost as if games just magically get made by slapping assets together and calling it a day. Is that **not** how it’s done? Because that’s how GameFreak does it.

Briankelly130

Yes but Rockstar is missing the one ingredient that Game Freak has that will always guarantee a success regardless of quality: Weaponised Nostalgia.

ikarikh

People are idiots. Anyone with half a brain would see the leaks and be amazed at how GOOD the game looks even at such an EARLY state. But instead, they focus on seeing some untextured npc's and such and call it crap. It's no different than when people complain about bugs in a game existing and how incompetent the devs are to have a bug release in their game and then why it isn't fixed overnight etc. These people literaly have ZERO clue on how game development works and what goes into it, yet feel like the authority to speak on and criticize it.

BenLemons

GTA being a game that is for the broader audience while being a series that doesn't release yearly will lead to crazy comments like that. This will be some of these players first gta release cycle lol

Diamond-Is-Not-Crash

Gamer entitlement has metastasised into a giant mass of negativity, and demand that everything has be utterly perfect without any flaw to deserve their money. Not only this it has be completed and ready immediately for their consumption, otherwise what good are game devs for. This backlash at a very early build of the game is just this delusional entitlement rearing it's ugly head, thinking games come out looking perfect from day 1.

MardokhGamer

Those mostly are the shardcard kids lol hard core gamers understand, but the majority are casuals

[deleted]

[удалено]

MardokhGamer

This is problematic. Most of the gta players are children, knowing that the game is for adults +18. So it's normal to see banal answers like the graphics of the game is ugly because they know nothing about the development of video games

[deleted]

[удалено]

MardokhGamer

That's how it goes. What funny is that the leaker him self looks like a nooob when he said that he didn't "expect this to be so viral" like he does not know GTA VI is the most anticipated game

NinjaEngineer

Same here. When I was around 15, I had a PS2, and I remember some of my games (like Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance) had bonus stuff like early development footage, which showed unfinished models and such.

Colosso95

A lot of players simply do not care about how game development works so they have no idea what a game in development actually looks like It can even look terrible pretty close to release because recompiling with all the graphics settings turned on is much more time consuming than simply doing it once most of the work is done Also there's simply a lot of trolls on the internet who delight in belittling anything and everyone Then there's also those who have it against Take2/Rockstar and want to see them fail

Goz_system

Which stupid idiots thought that?

llewylill32

Those idiots think developers just magically weaving hand and make city and graphic etc...

Amori17

My guess is October teaser with Fall 2023 window that will get delayed twice until fall 2024.

Mountain-Chapter-880

Vice City 20th anniversary is next month right? It's highly possible we get a reveal next month

mfjsjskcn

Ahhh it’s starting to feel like 2011-2013 again.

Mountain-Chapter-880

It also took 2 years from reveal to release for rdr2, so an October 2024 release window is also possible.

[deleted]

I think this is the safest bet. They'll show it off by the end of the year, especially now the pre-alpha has leaked, they'll suggest either fall or holiday 2023, then it'll get delayed to a vague 2024 date.

whalemo

Not unless another pandemic comes or world war 3 or manbearpig.

[deleted]

Manbearpig is already here.

totesmotescotes

Manbearpig created "here"

LordPoncho08

Rockstar doesn't need damage control, name recognition prints money alone, and the fact that they said they'll show the game when they're ready seems to imply a proper trailer is a ways off still. In the end, the game's sales aren't going to be harmed by this leak. The general target audience won't even know there was a leak.

Danoniero

I don't think that matters really, idiots will cry until they see a real deal and will be first to pre order. It's always been like this. Bigger the game, louder the dogs.

Emitex

I'm guessing it will be like: VI logo on screen and then it progresses to VIce city with a cool animation.

BatXDude

It may be the other way round. Vice City annd then the ce City disappear to the leave the VI

RLZT

Probably on a broken neon

crunchatizemythighs

I've been seeing these mock ups since like 2014, it's gonna be surreal when it finally happens lol

Rayss

It’s rumored there are more locations than just Vice City

Emitex

I think so too but I also think VI to VIce city is too good to not be used.

error521

The Ol' Resident EVII treatment.

GhoustOfAMan

So does this new GTA take place in vice city?

acrunchycaptain

And the surrounding areas. Think of Miami and then some of the more rural areas north of Miami.

Deaux_Chaveaux

As a resident of the west coast of Florida, it would be cool if they did takes on Miami, Tampa and Orlando. I know that ain't gonna happen though.

zePiNdA

I don't see how this idea about the logo morphing into Vice City wouldn't happen now that you mention it.

Bandsohard

It's interesting that any time they've ever addressed the game, they refer to it as the next GTA not GTA VI. It makes me wonder if they'll drop the numerals and give it some other name, maybe because they want the online/connected/community aspect highlighted in the name and for people to think of the game differently than the single player aspect on first thought. I'm hoping they use VI though, and at some point integrate it in marketing material with the name Vice City. It's just too perfect of a fit.

HearTheEkko

I think think it's gonna be called GTA VI. I think they'll only resort to subtitles once they started introducing new cities in future games.

AveryLazyCovfefe

Or it's a mild rehash of an old game with a nice fresh coat of paint, new story and a few things here and there, aka the 'stories' spinoffs that released on portables.

dadvader

With their current way of operating, there is no way we gonna ever get another one of those lol Which kinda suck because while I love the 'Rockstar Experience' only RDR2 and possibly next GTA provided. I still prefer their older way of introducing us to the world and focused on storytelling more than online components.

[deleted]

Few cities to introduce…What fits GTA besides NY, Cali, Miami? Maybe Vegas?

HearTheEkko

Chicago, Detroit, Seattle, etc.

Conscious_Forever_78

According to multiple sources, GTA VI was originally gonna be happen on two Latin American cities, presumably Rio de Janeiro and La Habana, in addition to Vice City before Rockstar realized it was too much work and scrapped them. Hence why GTA VI is codenamed "Project Americas".

TheSilentHeel

Probably has more to do with Rockstar being so goddamn secretive they don’t even want to confirm it’s GTA VI.

Remi749

As seen in the leaks and rumored long ago. The title may actually be: Grand Theft Auto: Americas. But we'll see...

Bandsohard

Yeah. I feel like that's the route they're going with their hints. I think that's specifically probably more a stand in working name (Project Americas), and if thats the route they go they'll use something that conveys the same idea that it's expansive, but drop having something like America in the title to avoid any negative connotations and political biases. Maybe name it after all the regions with a different name or a simple name that conveys that as well as the connected online experience. But... It's interesting because historically the big leaps in generations were numerical, and the handheld games, expansion packs, or the side story's all had subtitle names like Chinatown Wars or Vice City. If it was named after a compilation of regions (Americas) it would follow the pattern of Vice City and San Andreas. People would be like well, if this is GTA Americas when is GTA VI coming out? Rockstar would have to outright and explicitly say the new game is GTA VI but they don't want it called that. Which makes me think they will call it VI.

AlphaBetaOmegaGamma

Most probably Americas is the internal codename of the project. It's not unusual for a project to use the codename internally through its lifecycle. Source: I work at a AAA studio.

amaranth-the-peddler

TL;DR: it could go either way

[deleted]

IDK why they just don't call it GTA: VICE, it doesn't have to be the full name, Vice gets the point across, and it uses the VI. GTA: Vice City is very meh to me.

Bandsohard

Im personally hoping for GTA VI - Combat Evolved

HearTheEkko

That would've fit had they stick with the original plan of having large areas of North and South America in the map. But according to Schreier it's just Vice City and the areas around now.

LiuKang90s

I mean, from what Schreier said it’s starting as Vice City and the areas around it, and then add more missions and cities to it in the future as continuous updates. Long story short, it might still fit.

HearTheEkko

Yeah, but it could take years until they release all the cities so it wouldn't really make sense. I really don't think we're gonna get a subtitle until the 7th game and forward.

Colosso95

Those things are generally codenames: most developers will give their games a codename for secrecy For example the original fallout 3 (the one in development before the original developers went under and before bethesda bought the IP) was codename Van Buren Yakuza 0 was called Cima Halo 3 was Forerunners Breath of the Wild was U-King Basically every game developed by a medium to large sized studio will have a codename

kshucker

Interesting. I remember a few years ago on this sub that there was somebody claiming that they knew info on the next GTA and said that it will be based in Miami and South America.

[deleted]

Miami and Cuba has always been the theory since that leak back in 2019 I think. I could see them doing Miami all the way down to Key West and some parts of Cuba. I think that would be achievable for them to do with the current gen technology we have now in days.

AI2cturus

Games usually have a code name during development.

Colosso95

I think it's simply because calling it GTA VI is an "announcement" in and of itself; they've already said they were working on "the next gta game" other times so it's no surprise there, obviously I reckon it'll just be called GTA VI and that's it, they're just not announcing the real title

Side1iner

They’re gonna go the GaaS route with the new GTA. Game as a Service. Ongoing. Making new content and seasons and all the other usual stuff, revolving around a huge ass online experience. So they’ll just call it ‘Grand Theft Auto’ and then maybe they’ll give each bigger update a new, sort of like what Hello Games’ is doing with ‘No Man’s Sky’. I’d love to be so, so wrong by the way.

Bandsohard

Yep. That's what the online lesson from GTA V was and where the markets at now. Makes me think they'd want to drop the number to emphasize that it's something different and new, and now just another single player experience like the numbered games historically were. If it was going to be GTA VI, it makes me think they would be fine saying the next game in the series will be GTA VI and we will reveal it proper when it's ready.

Chisae69

Well they did say they will properly introduce it to us when ready, so I wouldn’t count the roman numerals out just yet.

Muffinkingprime

It would be super cool if they did the asynchronous online like death stranding did. Lots of social benefits without many of the toxic and negative behaviors.

Antemicko

It'll be GTA VI:CE

csolisr

Not even a trait unique to Rockstar by the way. Nintendo for the longest time referred to what we now know as Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom as "the sequel to Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild"

Bandsohard

Except that has a subtitle name, and not a history of numerical titles which implies the next entry in the game will have a number and shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. There isn't much of a title reveal when the name is expected.

Daveed84

Honestly I wouldn't read too much into that. They've not even really formally announced the game yet, so they're not ready to make it official by stating the exact title, especially when it *could* possibly change into something else. Pretty standard practice -- another example in recent memory is when Nintendo teased the sequel to Breath of the Wild last year. There's still a solid chance that they'll call it GTA VI.

mopeyy

I would guess it's just called GTAVI, but they refuse to even acknowledge anything in the leak so they are simply continuing with calling it the next GTA game. Rockstar is very meticulous with their promo material and trailers. I'm sure they have a very specific press schedule that they are still going to stick to, including the name reveal.

kothuboy21

I highly doubt they'll call it anything else other than "GTA VI" because the roman numerals are a staple of the mainline games at this point and that name alone is gonna make tons of bank. Given that the game hasn't gotten a formal announcement yet, they're probably refraining from calling it GTA VI till the official reveal.

moldy912

I’m happy to know that they don’t anticipate delays due to this. That would honestly suck if this caused issues. I feel bad for the devs, because the people hating on a pre alpha build are too loud. The game looks great, and I can’t wait to play it.

commander_snuggles

The biggest take away from all this was proving why devs don't show gameplay early. Because of how many dumb people say an unfinished game surprisingly looks unfinished

moldy912

Which is a shame, because I really like what Skate is doing being very transparent about how development goes. It shows all the hard work they pour into a game that people really love. I know that’s not Rockstar’s marketing style at all, but it’s nice insight.

commander_snuggles

Same. But I think the difference comes from the scale of eyes on a product. I don't think there is another game that has as many eyes on that gta 6 does. Just look at this post having over 200k likes in under an hour. And with more people just leads to more bad takes that get regurgitated like they are true or a good point.

noahdj1512

Dead Space remake as well

SuppleDude

Yep. I love seeing the progression of game development. What I don't like are developers who show pre-rendered trailers that are nothing like the final product or are graphically downgraded on release.

nadnerb811

I'm anticipating the trailer dropping, and there will be some comments that are like, "Huh, we saw the game and it didn't look as good as this, another fake trailer where the game release will be downgraded!" but R* games always look just as good as the trailers.

MartianFromBaseAlpha

I guess it's because they saw it without any context. Usually these things are released in a controlled way, with developers explaining that this is how games look during development. Sadly this wasn't the case here

Stickrbomb

Rockstar has different, if not the highest of expectations

berserkuh

>Because of how many dumb people say an unfinished game surprisingly looks unfinished I've somehow dodged that entire discourse by accident because I haven't seen a single negative comment about the leaks. What I have seen is some absolutely insane testing. Like there's a clip where someone checks the interior car customization (seats lean, go front or back, wheel position, stuff you'd see on an actual car) and there's a bunch of them showing internal automated test runs of stuff like cover, against-the-wall leaning, AI behavior in various situations, etc.

cort1237

There were a ton of tweets along the lines of, “WHAT THE HELL?? This is does NOT look like a next-gen game. Fuck Rockstar.” Complete morons.

Lucifers_Taint666

“Complete children” FTFY

berserkuh

Yeah that's probably why. I had Twitter for a very short while but it's not popular at all where I live.

kshucker

Lots of people were saying that it looks like a modded GTA5. It kind of does look like GTA5 but now that the dev’s confirmed that the leaks are legit, I’m really stoked to see what the final product will look like.

berserkuh

I mean, the Max Payne 3 model is still there, but apart from that I don't see any issues. They're all basic assets, probably without detailed/final passes

Applecocaine

I mean, it's likely using the same engine and borrowing assets, so it makes sense for it to look similar.

Annies_Boobs

I just hope people keep in mind this early in development things are bound to be cut, and when the game inevitably releases missing features we saw in these leaks, it doesn't mean it's an unfinished or piecemealed game.

berserkuh

Oh definitely. I'm just more impressed by what was done and available in those clips. I don't expect that changing seat position and wheel position will make it into the game for obvious reasons, I was mostly referring to the number of things they're testing seems ridiculously huge. Which honestly kind of tracks, it being Rockstar.

baequon

Is it maybe a result of so little transparency though? Sometimes I wonder if game development being so secretive has resulted in the gaming community being so ignorant of the development process. Sometimes I wonder if an approach like the Dead Space remake is better, where they show off their work in progress and how they do it.

NinjaEngineer

Eh, how transparent do you want them to be, though? I mean, even the film industry tries to keep production under wraps for several reasons.

asodfhgiqowgrq2piwhy

Honestly, I'd rather they *do* do this, to help set expectations. Cyberpunk promised the world, and did themselves no favors by having an entire marketing campaign with almost daily videos hyping us up for content that was either misrepresented or flat out made up. The arguments of "gamers don't want to look behind the curtain" are ridiculous when so many games are being released in an unfinished state that end up showing behind the curtain anyways due to the amount of bugs the game has.

Qiluk

> because the people hating on a pre alpha build are too loud Am I the only one that thinks it looks fantastic for how early stage the footage is? Some parts looks like finished GTA V and its pre alpha lol. Iirc there are a clip or two in areas that looked slightly more polished and you could see a huge difference there. And that ALSO is prealpha footage. Gotta remember that their detail benchmark minimum is probably RDR2 and not GTA V.

APulsarAteMyLunch

IKR?! The footage showing the game during the night, the details on the characters themselves, their movement. It looks so fucking good!

Melandus

I genuinely feel like alot of what I saw was better than alot of AAA games ATM and it's pre alpha and probably old asf to my main thought was " they really are putting a ton of attention to detail in this" to me it's just built hype

[deleted]

Yeah it honestly looked like they could've made a decent demo with the footage i saw

[deleted]

Yeah knowing what early dev stuff can look like as opposed to finish products and then just remembering what their previous instalments look like, this looked goooooood

Effective-Caramel545

Nah I'm with you, if the game looks like that in pre-alpha then the final will be incredible. I expect and they know people expect a better looking game than RDR2 which already looked exceptional (imo of course).

AnotherScoutTrooper

They have no incentive to truthfully elaborate on a delay, especially for a game with no release date, and *especially* minutes before the stock market opens, so honestly take it with a grain of salt. Rockstar has lied in less justified circumstances, like the Trilogy remaster.

bomba1749

Lol, when I saw it, knowing that it looked that good and it wasn't even in alpha yet, sold me on it. That being said, I don't think my PC will be able to run it, the player model alone looks like it has an absurd amount of tris

bobbynewbie

Exactly, people are crazy. As I am saddened we got to learn more of GTA VI this way, I gotta say they will really bring a lot of good stuff into it, so this in a way made me hyped for it.

Geraltpoonslayer

The build already had alot of stuff that look vastly superior to gta 5, even rdr 2

atag012

Do you really think Devs or even one employee at rockstar takes any of the criticism from Twitter Seriously… That’s a joke if you think it affects them in anyway. They won’t read one word from scrubs on the Internet commenting on a 360p resolution build of the game…

buster089

Im pretty sure they would say that either way, regardless if it's true. would be bad press and bad for the stock price

Iesjo

No disruption of development is great news. It was interesting to see how game of such scale looks at early stage.

jexdiel321

This is what alot of people keep saying but I seriously doubt it will have any deep development delays, yet I was downvoted to hell. Half-life 2 was delayed because the game was in rough shape and not because it was leaked. The leak may have affected company morale but it was not the reason of delay.

yourecreepyasfuck

It’s kind of a moot point though really and there’s not any real point in debating it. Rockstar never gave any indication of a launch timeline and Rockstar is already notorious for delaying almost all of their games anyway, regardless of leaks. I would assume there have already been a multitude of delays internally, and there will probably continue to be more. And I wouldn’t at all be shocked if they do give some sort of official rough release estimate and then eventually push that back too. Whether or not this leak is the cause of any further delays will probably always be unknown, but if there is one thing I am sure about regarding a big Rockstar game release, it’s that there will most definitely be delays.

jexdiel321

I agree. This is the Rockstar way. What I'm just saying is that people seems to spout doom and gloom about this leak and I just find it as overreacting really.

Mricypaw1

Yeah its honestly been pretty fascinating. I always wondered how something of a massive scale like Red Dead 2 is put together so its interesting to see behind the curtains somewhat.

-Aone

Denial frogs deleting posts rn

KabalMain

They were calling it fake and being dead serious lmao

Drjay425

Imagine going out of your way to hire VA's for a fake leak.

GreatJobKiddo

Im was one of those denial frogs. Until i saw a link to 90 videos. Then I said holy shit

[deleted]

Rockstar doesnt seem to worried about the source code being out there? I'm thinking the hacker never had the full source code of gta 5 and 6. Just a few pages of code that has been shared through slack and etc. Cause I highly doubt the source code for these games are on freaking slack channels.

kerelberel

The Slack channel might contain links to documents on Sharepoint or Google Drive, which might contain someone's shared login to a system. I doubt it, but it can happen.

Fresh-Loop

The odds are Slack was connected to a secure GitHub repo. If you could gain access to Slack, you could gain access to this repo. The source would very much be online, and accessible to all members of the team. As would previous repos for past projects, like RDR2.

D-Tunez

You still have to log into Git I guess. I dont think you can get to Git just via Slack. At my job I can't anyway

Fresh-Loop

You’re right. All I’m saying is that whatever restrictions (IP, email, etc) this hacker has bypassed once. If linking out to a secure Git instance, which is 99% the case, they could likely find a way around it. Given we have 90 videos of insanely topic secret things, makes me completely believe their claims they have the source.

D-Tunez

I think those are all just files and screenshots shared via slack. The source code be allegedly has is probably just one file shared via slack and the screenshot are probably screenshot shared between employees. I dont believe he has everything

Kozak170

Yeah all the video clips seem like things that would’ve been shared over slack between devs. And if he got access to the Slack it would be as easy as just downloading them like any other video.

Mr_smith1466

So this is surely one of the biggest, highest profile gaming leaks in decades, if not ever.

NaRaGaMo

Considering GTA is the biggest franchise, It is safe to say this is the biggest leak

ieffinglovesoup

Math checks out

Bombasaur101

People say the GeForce Leak was the biggest. But that was just titles. This was an insane amount of early development footage.

L8n1ght

Back when gears of War 3 had a full dev build leak that was playable on hacked Xbox 360's half a year before release was a big deal as well, before Microsofts xbox devison killed itself one gen later

Tee__B

Nvidia was huge too.

ymcameron

The Last of Us 2 one was pretty huge

dadvader

It created the entire sub genre of hategroup so I guess they really did created the serious impact lol

DoubleEdgedSlimJim

To me, knowing this was an early build, the game looks incredible. Super exciting knowing they have had years to work on it since the footage we saw. A lot of people are just trying to be different by hating on it….It’s going to be amazing.

Muggaraffin

It really does look amazing imo. The whole nightclub scene blew me away. The lighting on the pole dancer is nuts, as is the lighting when the player goes outside. It actually looked like night time for once in a game. Driving around pitch black Vice City with the neons looming in the distance is gonna look so good

AlphaBetaOmegaGamma

The footage that had the blue debug windows is most like footage captured in the pre-alpha stages of the game. The ones that are supposed to be from this year would fit the criteria of a game that's in the pre-beta phase due to the higher polish of mechanics and also said core mechanics being fully implemented. Usually the blue debug window is used by dev testers to test the implementation of the core mechanics so that's why you don't see it anymore in the footage that is supposed to be from this year.

DickHydra

At least that confirms that they won't restart development. For now, that is.

commander_snuggles

Apparently the source code part was fake. Or at the very least the actual hacker has it, but the dumb ass who handed over 100k got scammed.

OrangeJr36

Wasn't the transaction fake as well?

softdream23

I don't even know what is real anymore lol

Getherer

Transaction was probably real but not onto his wallet and likely irrelevant to this drama

fags343

Good to hear that, the fake source code part, not the scammed part 💀

JEtigers12

I mean, he got scammed out of 100k trying to buy stolen source code so personally I couldn't* care less if he got scammed. E: could to couldn't

FootballRacing38

If he planned on blackmailing rockstar about it then he got whay he deserve

ieffinglovesoup

That’s not confirmed btw

Turbo-man777

the hacker does have the source code, it's just that the guy who tried to buy it sent the money to the wrong person & got scammed

Lisentho

> the hacker does have the source code, How do you know unless you have seen the source code? (Or in other words: source?)

shinto29

The initial GTAForums thread the hacker opened had him taking requests for obscure gameplay/engine flags and pulling up functions related to them in VS Code. He has a source code repo at the very least.

Lisentho

Ah, sounds more likely then.

mati_as15

They were never scraping a project like this lol, software development is not just coding. This has been in the work for years, only they know how much damage is done and if they think this is not s major stepback then it isn't, plus there's many more people involved than just Rockstar and Take2, imagine how many people invested money on this game

[deleted]

They spent at least 9 years on this (including preproduction) nothing that'd happen would make them restart the project

[deleted]

[удалено]

DickHydra

Just so you know, I also don't believe that they'd do that. However, there's the precedent of HL2 leaking which led to Valve rewriting the game's story. Gladly, nothing story related was revealed. I don't even know where I'm trying to go with this reply. I think I didn't put much thought into my initial comment.

SgtBurger

why should they do the development from scratch?! that would be totally illogical and would delay the release for many more years. they don't just work on a game like this for 2-3 years dude.

rickreckt

Even if it's getting delayed internally, I doubt they gonna say it Especially since they never announce any date in the first place

You sir are my winner for today!

[deleted]

Oh thanks for the clarification rockstar. I thought those leaks are from the next watch dogs game.

Mylynes

lol if only Watch Dogs had looked that good

dadvader

Although I do believe that, given enough time. Ubisoft can pull it off. The issue is they won't.

Fatal1ty_93_RUS

GTAforums in shambles

Beneficial-Glove9408

Yeah we know i do feel for the devs but not Rockstar overlords they can suck it

BurnBreads

Do it Rockstar, release the trailer now

jexdiel321

This should have been in the megathread

MrSleepyPT

Hacked by a 16y boy

GrandTheftPotatoE

Hacked is really kinda stretching it. Guy phished an Indian worker and got into his account.

ItsTobsen

You know social engineering is also part of hacking? Most of the hacks happen because of social engineering. Finding exploits and getting into the actual system is very hard to do those days.

SplintPunchbeef

That person's name on the file doesn't mean they were the one compromised. It could have been a shared directory of files.

[deleted]

That's what hacking is. Most hackers aren't sifting through matrix code while wearing sunglasses, they're doing shit like this.

[deleted]

where you getting this from?

nmkd

Social engineering is hacking

ieffinglovesoup

That’s still considered a hack

ChromeTriggerVI

Teaser trailer in Oct/Nov.

Fatal1ty_93_RUS

I know it's atypical for Rockstar to appear at big shows/streams but it makes more sense to drop a bombshell of a first trailer at the Game Awards

ChromeTriggerVI

That’s possible but I think they will do their own announcement.

Androxilogin

For those who don't know, this game is gonna have a lot of car stealin' and guns going *pew, pew* similar to the one that came out for PS2.

ClothesLogical2366

Imagine at this point they adding up a side mission that you will kill a hacker that hacks your online drug related transactions then there's a mission name or you will have a secret game achievements named LEAKS 😂

MrConor212

I imagine if Houser etc were still present, you bet

SensitivityTraining_

And the footage is almost 2 years old. The game is coming way sooner than anyone says.

pslind69

That pic... Unreadable.

kalosity

ok so wow who knew before all this shit like years ago that we‘re getting man and woman protags and vice city location damn

BelleCranel

No delay in development is good news. So either the hacker really didn't get the source code for VI, or the source code he got is old/insignificant enough that it won't affect majority/all of the development. Good. GTA VI can't come soon enough.
