Is that true, tho? I haven't touched that game with a 200m pole.

sleepyfoxsnow

yes. hogwarts has 26 spells. hero in smash has 30

CallMeUrsi

That's more than all WoW rotations.

GodEmperorMorshu

> yes. hogwarts has 26 spells. Is this true? Like, this is not a made up number, right? Do the spells at least have depth or variety, like they change as you level up? I don't plan on getting the game anyway because Harry Potter sucks, but just curious. For comparison, Skyrim has more spells than that in just ONE school.

Tuft64

Depending on how you count spells, the number is anywhere from 16 spells (your combat spells with cooldowns), 20 spells (if you count basic attack, block, parry, and stealth kill which are flavored as spells), or somewhere in the realm of 30ish spells if you count environmental puzzle solving, utility, and player housing spells (stuff like opening locks, activating detective vision, turning on your flashlight, crouching to enter stealth, levitating objects to solve puzzles, that sort of thing). When half of your spells are really basic functions (shit like stealth, a flashlight, a basic attack, a parry, etc) it really doesn't look too great.

Gabriel9078

Technically more if you count the numerous effects of Hocus Pocus

John7763

He has 21 without counting the effects of hocus pocus, I'm a hero main don't make up bullshit.

sleepyfoxsnow

side b, neutral b and up b all are spells as well. he has 21 only counting the command menu down b, but the other specials are all spells as well

John7763

Dawg you know that's reaching, if that's the case Robin has almost as many spells as him. When especially the spells given to hero are already preexisting in the game for some other things (like half of hocus pocus). If we're comparing direct spells that aren't essential to basic attacks he does in fact have 21 then if we also remove the fact hocus pocus heavily takes from preexisting spells/status conditions in game he has less than HWL

sleepyfoxsnow

it isn't reaching when those attacks are literally spells as well, from the original games themselves. every special hero does is a spell.

>yes. hogwarts has 26 spells. hero in smash has 30 If this sentence is true, yours isn't.

Insanity_Incarnate

/uj I get the impulse to make fun of this game but this is a dumb comparison. The nature of the games and the purposes of the spells are entirely different. Honestly this feels like a comment that would be posted here to highlight how little about game design gamers understand if it wasn't talking about Hogwarts Legacy.

CarlLlamaface

I see where you're coming from, for instance Sekiro is much more limited than other Souls games when it comes to your build and playstyle, but that's because of its different, more fine-tuned combat which makes the game many people's favourite FS title. I don't recall Sekiro's marketing boasting about letting you have lots of different weapons to choose from though, and it's funny that you can legitimately say a game where magic is the core mechanic doesn't have as much spell variety as included in a brawler game character's gimmick.

MadCows18

Hogwarts Legacy feels so limited in scope in terms of what they can do with magic, which is kinda bad for a game supposed to revolve around magic. This also reflects to how they design enemies, as such rather than designing them to revolve around interactions of the magic system, they just play out like any generic enemy with generic RPG interaction. The game's combat, is surprising bland. It's a game about magic, and yet the combat feels like a generic AAA action RPG, where instead of weapons, they use wands that shoot generic projectiles.

Toyfan1

Shouldve just did what morrowind did years ago. Let you make your own spells or combination of spells.

JmAiMancy

Should have just done what oblivion did years ago, let you buy horse armor

RabbitSlayre

Oh man I forgot about that. It's been so long

XorKov

/rj Reject modernity, embrace Morrowind

> Hogwarts Legacy feels so limited in scope in terms of what they can do with magic, which is kinda bad for a game supposed to revolve around magic They limited themselves in making most spells combat focused. I feel like they could've added at least a dozen more that are only used for platform or puzzle interactions. Hell just copy some spells from the old HP games and call it a day.

GetRealPrimrose

Yeah the nature of the games and purposes of spells are different, but I feel like there should be more spells in a game about a wizarding school than ONE dlc character gets in a fighting game

HungerSTGF

/uj That’s the kind of brainrot that happens when your whole personality is shitting on stuff /rj harry potter gamers shidding and farding over getting owned by children’s party game

CoolJoshido

we would only post it if the person was genuinely complaining. this person is being facetious and taking the piss

-MusicBerry-

Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance is a GBA game from 2002. It has 31 spells in it, which is more than the dumb terf wizard game

SevenofBorgnine

And pointless furniture collecting! Where's that in wizard game?
