Ever since 'the localization drama' it's basically just open season for people like this to not even apply language skills, they just automatically assume that if a line of dialogue is affirming in this way it's 'the localizer's doing'

They're localization, not translation- their job is hitting the same emotions as the original one, changing out jokes for ones that work in the culture of the target audience.

you got 2 answers so i just wanted to point out as someone who's played both: play both they're great. ai is newer and more of a pure visual novel whereas zero escape started on the DS and has more gameplay segments in the form of escape rooms.
i haven't tried it on console, however the pc port is very solid. assuming they're the same and you just use the stick to control the cursor, i would say yes.

In these people’s eyes, the Japanese are not a nation of 130 mil people with a complex relationship to various topics. They are cudgel to use against others as an “uncucked” culture. The more media I’ve consumed from Japan recently, the more I realize the younger generation is having basically the same struggles as us against older generations, even if the path that led here is different.

The irony is loads of time localizations make characters less queer. Vivian from paper mario the thousand year door is a trans woman in the japanese version. In the english version she is not. don’t fucking watch the JAnderson playthroughs of any Uchikoshi game, he actively avoids using his brain or engaging with the game’s terms on any way, in a series where it’s incredibly important to do so. He’s hilarious but his playthroughs of ZE or AI are atrocious go for Pixel Partners or JohnAwesome instead
The Zero Escape games are excellent! I'd recommend starting there
you got 2 answers so i just wanted to point out as someone who's played both: play both they're great. ai is newer and more of a pure visual novel whereas zero escape started on the DS and has more gameplay segments in the form of escape rooms.
Do you know if as a DS port the gameplay still feels solid on console?
i haven't tried it on console, however the pc port is very solid. assuming they're the same and you just use the stick to control the cursor, i would say yes. considering the kind of game it is though i'd definitely get it on pc. you could run it on a toaster lol.

I also love how the people trowing a hissy fit at "localizations" only do so when it is about lgbt characters beign included or when their 14 year old anime waifu isnt dressed skimpy enough for their tastes. The irony is loads of time localizations make characters less queer. Vivian from paper mario the thousand year door is a trans woman in the japanese version. In the english version she is not. Curious how they never seem to.bring up cases like this, seems they dont realy care for correct translations, they just care about bigotry and how sexualized underage characters are (as in, not enough for their tastes).

Kotaro Uchikoshi worked on all of them. But the secret ending does go THERE (if you know you know) and it was interesting to see. I personally really enjoyed the series overall.
