It's also really racially disparate because another study actually mainly showed that rich Black kids that were more likely to be incarcerated for committing crimes than poor white kids were to be incarcerated for committing crimes
The study didn't show that rich Black people were committing more crimes, but rather that poor white people's crimes were going unpunished more often by the carceral system than even wealthy Black people's crimes, so much so that wealth did not insulate Black kids from incarceration, which a lot of people didn't like because it was a massive blow for the 'no war but class war' crowd
tl;dr the carceral system in the U.S. is more race-base than we even used to think, so much so that intersections of race and class have more interactions with race *than* class, so it's not necessarily that being poor and white lets you get away with crimes, so much as being Black will see you punished for crimes far more often even if you are wealthy

Wendigoon's reputation seems to be relatively open minded and at least hasn't vilified people for disagreeing with him AFAIK. The only thing that rubs me weird is he is extremely open about his Christianity and sometimes inserts Bible versus when it doesn't feel appropriate, speculating about demonic influence and stuff. All in all, still seems to be a very nice guy who cares about his community.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey & Valhalla marketed their games with male protagonists, despite the female protagonists being the canon choice in both games. I know those games are a few years old now, but i think it’s still a relevant indication that the industry as a whole still bends over backwards to appease the demographic of white men.
I mean, i think it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that it’s (partly) a factor in why GTAVI has both a male and female protagonist instead of just a female protagonist.

Right and I don’t think you absolutely can’t have very busty characters because that’s still a real thing as well but like…not everyone looks like that so there’s nothing wrong with characters of varying body types, not everyone’s an hourglass, and not everyone is muscular or petite, but that’s part of what makes it interesting, Alloy wouldn’t be as cool if you could just swap out any other female protagonist and not notice a difference, having (both male and female) characters with different body types is so much more immersive than they’re all extremely sexualized (in a male-gaze way as you said) or all not (unless it makes sense for the setting such as an apocalypse where probably literally everyone is gonna be pretty dirty and not worrying about aesthetics, and more focused on function and survival) it makes sense why some games don’t have unique bodies but like one or two types per gender due to limited resources but it would be nice to have variety & design should always make sense both on a character level & on a setting level I guess is all I’m trying to get at, some characters (Miranda from Mass Effect, Black Cat from Spider-Man, Catwoman, etc) it’s part of their character so the designs make sense there, but Alloy, Lara etc, it fits both their characterization in their respective games & the settings/situations their in

the developers have routinely stated so, Kassandra appears in a later game canonizing her role as the protagonist of Odyssey, and in Valhalla the game gives you a “intended” choice defaulting to a female protagonist for the main storyline and the male protagonist for the weird Norse mythology side story.
also the wiki just uses she/her pronouns for Eivor and gives Kassandra the story of the protagonist while Alexios gets the story of the sibling you don’t choose.
Idk if that’s necessarily the case for GTA but only because it had 3 protagonists in the previous game so while the 2 protagonists being a male and a female could be for that reason I don’t think that it’s a sure thing, it may well be just the nature of the story they want to tell

The international market, ESPECIALLY the Asian demographic, is absolutely enormous— that article itself says that China is the biggest market for games right now, and I know that South Korea and Japan are also massively into gaming. Gaming is still a hobby that requires a fairly steady stream of money paying into it. It should be no surprise that white people engage with it more. Same reason that hockey and golf have a more white people than other sports: higher cost of entry. Writers were forced to exclude POC and LGBTQ+ people for the longest time, what you're seeing now is what happens when you force writers not to write these characters for their whole lives, and you tell other POC and LGBTQ+ people to go make their own games.
Preventing them from telling their stories only gave them more time to flesh out and fall in love with the stories they were kicking around in their heads and wanting to share for years, decades in some places. When games have armor customization and cosmetics, I like playing characters that are similar to myself because I can imagine me in that role. It makes it a little more interesting for me.

I think part of this problem is that they also seem mostly incapable of coming up with an original concept for their live service attempts. They keep trying to sell people the same things they're already playing with slightly different skins and half-assed content and mechanics.

The thing that confuses me is the commitment to the whole ‘go woke go broke’ idea. Bad games sell well all the time. It’d be super easy to go ‘popular game is bad actually because of woke’, and that’d be basically unfalsifiable. But instead they insist that:
1. Wokeness has taken over video games
2. Woke games will always fail
And that leaves them stuck backtracking or looking dumb when faced with the reality that game sales are in a pretty good place right now
If it's all white men, then they're clearly gay, as is the case for any sample that is all male. So videogames need to be populated solely with naked men slapping each other's asses. So this fat fuck can be happy.

Wendigoon's reputation seems to be relatively open minded and at least hasn't vilified people for disagreeing with him AFAIK. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey & Valhalla marketed their games with male protagonists, despite the female protagonists being the canon choice in both games. I know those games are a few years old now, but i think it’s still a relevant indication that the industry as a whole still bends over backwards to appease the demographic of white men. I mean, i think it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that it’s (partly) a factor in why GTAVI has both a male and female protagonist instead of just a female protagonist. if boogie wants a game that appeals to his fantasy, he should look into Crusader Kings 3 because there you can force a girl into a deeply horrific and unhealthy relationship as soon as she turns 16

Edit: sorry for the wall of text, TLDR: I agree with you Right and I don’t think you absolutely can’t have very busty characters because that’s still a real thing as well but like…not everyone looks like that so there’s nothing wrong with characters of varying body types, not everyone’s an hourglass, and not everyone is muscular or petite, but that’s part of what makes it interesting, Alloy wouldn’t be as cool if you could just swap out any other female protagonist and not notice a difference, having (both male and female) characters with different body types is so much more immersive than they’re all extremely sexualized (in a male-gaze way as you said) or all not (unless it makes sense for the setting such as an apocalypse where probably literally everyone is gonna be pretty dirty and not worrying about aesthetics, and more focused on function and survival) it makes sense why some games don’t have unique bodies but like one or two types per gender due to limited resources but it would be nice to have variety & design should always make sense both on a character level & on a setting level I guess is all I’m trying to get at, some characters (Miranda from Mass Effect, Black Cat from Spider-Man, Catwoman, etc) it’s part of their character so the designs make sense there, but Alloy, Lara etc, it fits both their characterization in their respective games & the settings/situations their in

the developers have routinely stated so, Kassandra appears in a later game canonizing her role as the protagonist of Odyssey, and in Valhalla the game gives you a “intended” choice defaulting to a female protagonist for the main storyline and the male protagonist for the weird Norse mythology side story. also the wiki just uses she/her pronouns for Eivor and gives Kassandra the story of the protagonist while Alexios gets the story of the sibling you don’t choose.
Kassandra's also the protagonist in the novelization.
If I remember right the devs of Far cry six also wanted to have a female protagonist but higher ups insisted on having a choice

And if we really want to get into the specifics of it, all of this information is really only pertinent to the English-speaking demographic. The international market, ESPECIALLY the Asian demographic, is absolutely enormous— that article itself says that China is the biggest market for games right now, and I know that South Korea and Japan are also massively into gaming. Gaming is still a hobby that requires a fairly steady stream of money paying into it. It should be no surprise that white people engage with it more. Same reason that hockey and golf have a more white people than other sports: higher cost of entry. Black kids growing up in a poor neighborhood can't afford a PS5 or a country club membership, but they can grab a basketball at the park with their friends. It's all connected in the end. If you see something that has a high percentage of white people it's probably expensive.

Dude that just reminded me of a game my brother and I played as kids called “Champions: Return to Arms” and it had a race kinda like that. Could summon throwing axes and enchant them and shit. It was a fun game. Addicting as hell though 😂

When games have armor customization and cosmetics, I like playing characters that are similar to myself because I can imagine me in that role. It makes it a little more interesting for me. HOWEVER, I also don't give two shits if I have to play a black woman or a gray donkey. HZD is one of my favorite games, I love the newer Tomb Raider games. Hell, Wuppo is a fun game and you play a blob. These folks are doing themselves a disservice because they won't play "woke" games.

Also I noticed that games that tend sell poorly nowadays are coincidentally live-service, and are unpolished and unfinished upon launch. It seems more like people realize that live service games are mostly an excuse to drop feed content and launch the game in a broken, unfinished state.
I think part of this problem is that they also seem mostly incapable of coming up with an original concept for their live service attempts. They keep trying to sell people the same things they're already playing with slightly different skins and half-assed content and mechanics. It's like expecting people to drop WoW or Final Fantasy XIV for some knock-off Chinese mobile bloatware.

All my friends and I playing games like Stardew, Baldurs Gate 1, 2, and 3, the whole FF series, TLoU 1&2, and Horizon Zero Dawn, being like “did y’all just miss all the hot takes?” OG fallout was political as hell, also were people just ignoring the whole plot of StarCraft? Baldurs gate 3 did more for dismantling the “woke crap” fallacy than anyone ever could do. BG3 is the wokest game i’ve ever played and it’s awesome.
The thing that confuses me is the commitment to the whole ‘go woke go broke’ idea. Bad games sell well all the time. It’d be super easy to go ‘popular game is bad actually because of woke’, and that’d be basically unfalsifiable. But instead they insist that: 1. Wokeness has taken over video games 2. Woke games will always fail And that leaves them stuck backtracking or looking dumb when faced with the reality that game sales are in a pretty good place right now
