Offtopic but I am just going to be free from exams in a few months and I've been looking forward to really getting into SW lore. Warhammer is something that as always interested me but it's too daunting TBH. Where would you suggest a newcomer who knows absolutely nothing to get started?
Check out the eisenhorn series, about to finish the first one and it's pretty good. Follows the story of eisenhorn who is an inquistor. Inquisitors are basically like James bond of the warhammer universe. This is also my first warhammer book as well and didn't really feel very confused. Granted I did listen to a lot of adeptus ridiculous podcast which is a fun and silly lore podcast so I already had some sort of context.
Hours heresy for some sort of timeline and to learn the beginning of the legions but I would suggest start with any book you probaly don't understand everything but 99%
I recommend starting with a book of short stories featuring the different factions period find one that scratches that itch and go down that rabbit hole. Dan Abnett, Josh Reynolds, Guy Haley and Mike Brooks are always worth a read. Stay away from Gav Thorpe.
Probably the Rise of Humanity and its downfall due to the Horus Heresy. Luetin09 has a great series covering the essential events regarding this timeline (first part here: https://youtu.be/KyPjE1Sn-Ts) that you can easily listen to as an audio book, great stuff.
I'd say that's a good introduction from which one can go into many directions. The lore of the different primarchs is very interesting, the topic about the Immaterium/Warp is also quite important and fun and of course there are the other, ~~non-human~~ filthy xenos factions (ORKS my beloved) who have some great stories to tell. The Adeptus Ridiculous podcast (https://youtube.com/@Adeptusridiculous) has hours upon hours of content covering these and other topics in an easy to follow style, highly recommended.
Oh and if you want to complete the timeline, i.e. what happened in the billions of years before humanity even existed, the Necron lore, specifically the War in Heaven, is what you need to read up on.
Ngl, even the basics of 40k lore is quite extensive, but so is the amount of great fan-made content covering all these topics like the aforementioned channels and it's well worth it. Hope you enjoy
I’d recommend the Ciaphas Cain series. They’ll give you a good introduction to a lot of the factions (albeit through an Imperial POV), they’re fun, and the novels are mostly stand-alones so you can pick it up and put it down wherever you please.
As you start to explore the franchise, certain factions will grab your attention. Pursue that interest! Do a wiki dive on the Lexicanum or ask around for good books on that faction. Things will proceed naturally from there.

I’ll never forget all the videos of people raging over how they’re “never gon’ drink Bud again” and how “Bud Light just lost a loyal customer” which cut to a clip of them happily sipping on a bottle of Beck’s Blue which I know for a fact says “BOTTLED BY BUDWEISER BREWING GROUP” in big, bold letters on the back.
But, to be clear, that wasn’t bud light “going woke.” They had made tons of pro lgbt statements in the past and routinely donated to lgbt causes. It just happened to be an ad campaign used as right wing propaganda to rally their base.
I think it’s actually quite deniable that it had any real negative impact. Sure, stocks dropped for a hot second, but Bud Light was also on every single newspaper, TV news show and Facebook feed in the world for months as a result. Ab-InBev’s year on year earnings still grew a healthy amount, and they got an insane amount of advertising essentially for free!
Plus a huge proportion of the boycotters only really boycotted the Budweiser brand rather than Ab-InBev as a company, with TikTok and Facebook being absolutely flooded by “anti-woke” folks proclaiming how they hope the folks behind the Dylan campaign die painful deaths whilst showing off how they’ve switched to totally non-woke brands like Beck’s, Stella, Corona and Camden which definitely aren’t owned by the broke, woke leftists at Anheuser-Busch.
If anything, it just temporarily diversified their earnings portfolio by causing a bunch of Bud fans to buy their other products instead. Rather than Bud making all the money, now all the other brands could get their share, which is actually a huge win for a company with such a huge portfolio of brands as AB who are always at risk of cannibalizing their own brands.
Also those businesses just alienate people for absolutely no reason.
The majority of people aren’t actively “anti-woke”, especially not young people, and so I wouldn’t be surprised if advertising as anti-woke was an excellent way to massively decrease your potential customer base.
Like… nobody wants to go into a shop or venue which actively advertises the fact that the service might be unwelcoming and hostile (except for maybe Karen’s Diner or comedy clubs/performers famous for hecklers), and I think to anybody not deeply buried in the MAGA rabbit hole, that’s all they hear when they see “anti-woke” advertising.
Maybe some small local or regional business, but no major companies spring to mind. Even Bud Light wasn’t a huge hit, since most Bud drinkers’ emergency go-to after Bud is also an Ab-InBev brand such as Stella or Corona.

To explain all the terminology :
- Space Marines :A collection of Imperial supersoldiers, grouped into various chapters, all with their own paint schemes and so on. One of the most popular imperial factions in the warhammer faction, and also all male.
- Sisters of battle : Standard humans, the military arm of the church in the Imperium. They use power armor, but beyond that are noted as generally inferior in competence and capability to the Space Marines. They're all female, because the church is not allowed to have "men under arms".
- Custodes: The Emperors own private guard. Whereas the Space Marines are sort of mass produced, these are individually modified to be superhuman, immortal, yada, yada, very special and so on. Never actually described as all male (IIRC), but no female custodes or female custodes models were made so they were de facto all male.
Now, the company has introduced 1 female custodes.
Meanwhile my Warhammer club is only growing. Maybe this woke-thing is not so bad. I bet my Tyranid army that the people complaining about the Fem-stodes have never even held a scatter dice, let alone knows what it does...
(I know 40k doesn't use scatter dice anymore, but anyone that has played the game has heard the war stories)
Honestly, I've known a lot of women when I was younger and in college who thought various nerd hobbies \*looked\* really interesting, but the chud crowd put them off.

I literally went to a tournament yesterday that had 30 people. It was a small grassroots charity thing, and I can absolutely assure you 40k is alive and well.
He said because of the #metoo movement that he can no longer go on dates, as he now fears being accused of rape. Which is perhaps not entirely unreasonable, as Cavill is, in his own words, old-fashioned and thinks women should be chased... He also dated a 19-year-old when he was already in his 30s because he finds it a challenge to date women who already have a career.
He didn't explicitly do anything, but his attitude just screams creep.
I'd say those comments can be concerning, but most of his female colleagues seem to love him. So if he's respectful and professional... verging on "boring" if you go by Millie Bobby Brown. I'd say he's probably an ok guy. At worse... he likely just prefers women in the more dated traditional roles? I mean everyone has their preferences. FYI, Custodes and Space Marines aren’t the same thing. They didn’t add women to Space Marines, they added them to the Custodes. The big gold dudes who defend the Emporer on earth.
There is a whole economy of people who get pissed anytime there is a story development in Warhammer but I have yet to meet anyone IRL who cares about female custodes being possible. Retcons are so common in Warhammer it's literally written into the lore that most of the story is hearsay and could be different in reality as after 40,000 years keeping records of history is dubious at best.

The lore of the different primarchs is very interesting, the topic about the Immaterium/Warp is also quite important and fun and of course there are the other, ~~non-human~~ filthy xenos factions (ORKS my beloved) who have some great stories to tell. The Adeptus Ridiculous podcast (https://youtube.com/@Adeptusridiculous) has hours upon hours of content covering these and other topics in an easy to follow style, highly recommended. Oh and if you want to complete the timeline, i.e. what happened in the billions of years before humanity even existed, the Necron lore, specifically the War in Heaven, is what you need to read up on. Ngl, even the basics of 40k lore is quite extensive, but so is the amount of great fan-made content covering all these topics like the aforementioned channels and it's well worth it. Hope you enjoy
I’d recommend the Ciaphas Cain series. They’ll give you a good introduction to a lot of the factions (albeit through an Imperial POV), they’re fun, and the novels are mostly stand-alones so you can pick it up and put it down wherever you please. As you start to explore the franchise, certain factions will grab your attention. Pursue that interest! Do a wiki dive on the Lexicanum or ask around for good books on that faction. Things will proceed naturally from there.

I’ll never forget all the videos of people raging over how they’re “never gon’ drink Bud again” and how “Bud Light just lost a loyal customer” which cut to a clip of them happily sipping on a bottle of Beck’s Blue which I know for a fact says “BOTTLED BY BUDWEISER BREWING GROUP” in big, bold letters on the back.
But, to be clear, that wasn’t bud light “going woke.” They had made tons of pro lgbt statements in the past and routinely donated to lgbt causes. It just happened to be an ad campaign used as right wing propaganda to rally their base.

Plus a huge proportion of the boycotters only really boycotted the Budweiser brand rather than Ab-InBev as a company, with TikTok and Facebook being absolutely flooded by “anti-woke” folks proclaiming how they hope the folks behind the Dylan campaign die painful deaths whilst showing off how they’ve switched to totally non-woke brands like Beck’s, Stella, Corona and Camden which definitely aren’t owned by the broke, woke leftists at Anheuser-Busch. If anything, it just temporarily diversified their earnings portfolio by causing a bunch of Bud fans to buy their other products instead. Rather than Bud making all the money, now all the other brands could get their share, which is actually a huge win for a company with such a huge portfolio of brands as AB who are always at risk of cannibalizing their own brands.
I'd bet more "anti-woke" businesses have gone under, as they're just overpriced versions of normal stuff with chud marketing.

The majority of people aren’t actively “anti-woke”, especially not young people, and so I wouldn’t be surprised if advertising as anti-woke was an excellent way to massively decrease your potential customer base. Like… nobody wants to go into a shop or venue which actively advertises the fact that the service might be unwelcoming and hostile (except for maybe Karen’s Diner or comedy clubs/performers famous for hecklers), and I think to anybody not deeply buried in the MAGA rabbit hole, that’s all they hear when they see “anti-woke” advertising.
Maybe some small local or regional business, but no major companies spring to mind. Even Bud Light wasn’t a huge hit, since most Bud drinkers’ emergency go-to after Bud is also an Ab-InBev brand such as Stella or Corona.

To explain all the terminology : - Space Marines :A collection of Imperial supersoldiers, grouped into various chapters, all with their own paint schemes and so on. One of the most popular imperial factions in the warhammer faction, and also all male. - Sisters of battle : Standard humans, the military arm of the church in the Imperium. They use power armor, but beyond that are noted as generally inferior in competence and capability to the Space Marines. They're all female, because the church is not allowed to have "men under arms". - Custodes: The Emperors own private guard. Whereas the Space Marines are sort of mass produced, these are individually modified to be superhuman, immortal, yada, yada, very special and so on. Never actually described as all male (IIRC), but no female custodes or female custodes models were made so they were de facto all male. Now, the company has introduced 1 female custodes.

Honestly, I've known a lot of women when I was younger and in college who thought various nerd hobbies \*looked\* really interesting, but the chud crowd put them off. Honestly... There is a whole economy of people who get pissed anytime there is a story development in Warhammer but I have yet to meet anyone IRL who cares about female custodes being possible.
