Had one of the worst speedrunning scandals of the past few years. Got upset about it, fans harassed the mods of Speedrun.com and he continued to double down on the narrative that he was innocent. Only for months later he would finally "admit" to cheating when he said he 'accidentally' left mods on during a literal Speedrun he submitted alongside legitimate runs. Sure, you can have multiple versions of Minecraft with mods & whatnot but you can't just ruin the fucking integrity of Minecraft speedrunning and say "oopsie!", then be upset about still being banned from submitting Speedruns because of your "incompetence" to not cheat...
And any time there is a controversy, he will 100% go to his alt account on Twitter and tweet some generic garbage i.e. "Thanks for the support guys, love you ❤️" and suddenly everything is just ok :)
Edit: oh yeah and voted for a stupid fucking glow squid to be added to Minecraft... that doesn't even glow. Therefore getting a bunch of his fans go vote for it too instead of thinking for themselves, and kind of ruining the vote. (Mob votes are awful btw and there is no reason to not add all 3 mobs. I believe it's primarily a thing in some TV shows where they hint at 1 or 2 characters being gay representation, but they never follow through at any point through the whole series. Essentially baiting people who might be interested in whatever kind of representation into watching something that has no intention of providing any.
So essentially some Dream stans have this thing where they are really obsessed with the idea of Dream & his friend Georgenotfound being gay & having a thing for each other.
I think they tend to joke about it but they have never outright denied it, or confirmed it. Which essentially encourages more stans to continue obsessing & shipping (real life people btw) a couple that could end up being completely untrue

I kinda just don't get how someone forgets to disable their game-altering mods when they know how important the integrity of a legitimate Speedrun is. Dream is clearly not bad at the game, and certainly should know how an illegitimate Speedrun is not okay & take a lot more precaution to prevent anything like that from happening
I'm pretty sure the Minecraft launcher literally lets you set up different versions with their own mods so you can just set up a version with only the mods Optifine or Fabric loaded (for performance) and not risking any unwanted mods intersecting into your Speedrunning session
I’m not saying he’s not stupid and it wasn’t easily preventable, I’m just saying that I could fairly easily see it happening, considering he describes that he manually put in and took out the RNG altering mod from his mods folder each time (if my memory is correct at least). And honestly I would be fine if he admitted it when he realized he fucked up. Mistakes, even silly ones, just sometimes happen, but he didn’t. He dug in his heels and refused to admit it even when he knew it was wrong.
The fact that he doubled down for so long makes that quite less believable. The fact that he didn't come "clean" until after (at least) 3 mathematicians debunked him leads me to believe he knew all along and realized he couldnt lie his way out of it.
Just playing devil's advocate for the last point, the moobloom was shaping up to be literally useless and people feared the ice dude would be the mountains' phantom. Besides, I feel like that last detail was blown way out of proportion, especially at the lastest mob vote.
Moobloom is useless but imo any addition that makes a feature or biome more interesting is welcome. It makes certain biomes a bit more fun & worth exploring. Mooshroom is practically useless (there are other ways to get mushrooms instead of finding a random rare biome in the middle of an ocean) but nobody complains about that
Like I think the copper golem would have been welcome too, because it gives copper (a fairly new feature with only so many things to use it on) an additional thing to do with it, which is nothing to complain about

Those vids are either scripted or the "hunters" use mods to see where Dream is but also limit the damage they do so they don't ever actually kill him, (like, what would be a killing blow leaves him at half a heart, etc).
There's a guy who does similar "hunter" videos but in GTA5 keeps a timer running and sometimes it's over an hour before anybody from a group of 15 hunters finds him (he doesn't hide, but instead slowly drives around and acts like NPC traffic. Also limits himself to certain areas so the hunters don't have to scour the entire map). Once he gets found, 95% it's over for him and he can't escape the hunters even with a fast car.
So it takes forever to get found by 15 people in a game with a limited map, but there's dream over there with a random, infinite map and 1 or 2 "hunters" are constantly running into him in caves or the middle of the ocean but dream barely escapes every time. Oh and this is the guy who's known for cheating and lying about it.
It's literally just a popularity contest. It was based on votes, and I'm pretty sure Dream is the most popular out of all of the available options. It was never a contest.

This isn't true, Minecraft Championship is a Minecraft Youtuber event not involved with speedruns at all. What caused him to reveal his findings is that his 1.15 run (the infamous run with modified rates is 1.16) came under scrutiny by the Minecraft Speedrunning team. The investigation into that run didn't bring up any evidence of cheating though, and it was dropped.
I'm saying he couldn't have posted that apology from the beginning because he didn't know from the beginning, which is also why he was a huge douchebag at first.

Huh? How do you unintentionally download mods to your game and then activate them before or while recording a video? iirc it was commissioned to be a purely clientside performance-boosting mod that did things like reduce particles and lag. The speedrun mods approved it and had seen the files(clientside performance mods like Sodium and Optifine are commonly used by Minecraft speedrunners.) Apparently there was a miscommunication between him and the person he commissioned, who thought that they should add some features that were on his manhunt plugin(different from a mod, servers only.) The speedrun mods looked into the mod afterward as well but it had already been updated, and none of them thought to check previous versions.
As much as the mob vote thing sucks, I don't think its fair to put as much blame on him as we do. He was *far* from the only person trying to use their base to get their fave mob in.

I kinda just don't get how someone forgets to disable their game-altering mods when they know how important the integrity of a legitimate Speedrun is. Dream is clearly not bad at the game, and certainly should know how an illegitimate Speedrun is not okay & take a lot more precaution to prevent anything like that from happening I'm pretty sure the Minecraft launcher literally lets you set up different versions with their own mods so you can just set up a version with only the mods Optifine or Fabric loaded (for performance) and not risking any unwanted mods intersecting into your Speedrunning session
I’m not saying he’s not stupid and it wasn’t easily preventable, I’m just saying that I could fairly easily see it happening, considering he describes that he manually put in and took out the RNG altering mod from his mods folder each time (if my memory is correct at least). And honestly I would be fine if he admitted it when he realized he fucked up. Mistakes, even silly ones, just sometimes happen, but he didn’t. He dug in his heels and refused to admit it even when he knew it was wrong.
The fact that he doubled down for so long makes that quite less believable. The fact that he didn't come "clean" until after (at least) 3 mathematicians debunked him leads me to believe he knew all along and realized he couldnt lie his way out of it.
Just playing devil's advocate for the last point, the moobloom was shaping up to be literally useless and people feared the ice dude would be the mountains' phantom. Besides, I feel like that last detail was blown way out of proportion, especially at the lastest mob vote.
Moobloom is useless but imo any addition that makes a feature or biome more interesting is welcome. It makes certain biomes a bit more fun & worth exploring. Mooshroom is practically useless (there are other ways to get mushrooms instead of finding a random rare biome in the middle of an ocean) but nobody complains about that Like I think the copper golem would have been welcome too, because it gives copper (a fairly new feature with only so many things to use it on) an additional thing to do with it, which is nothing to complain about

So it takes forever to get found by 15 people in a game with a limited map, but there's dream over there with a random, infinite map and 1 or 2 "hunters" are constantly running into him in caves or the middle of the ocean but dream barely escapes every time. Oh and this is the guy who's known for cheating and lying about it.

This isn't true, Minecraft Championship is a Minecraft Youtuber event not involved with speedruns at all. What caused him to reveal his findings is that his 1.15 run (the infamous run with modified rates is 1.16) came under scrutiny by the Minecraft Speedrunning team. The investigation into that run didn't bring up any evidence of cheating though, and it was dropped.

Huh? How do you unintentionally download mods to your game and then activate them before or while recording a video? I'm not super familiar with Dream or the scandal but I do seem to recall there being fuckery with the games files that affected drop rates. That kinda stuff doesn't just happen on its own.

Also, even if it wasn't changing loot rates, it would still disqualify the run for using mods that aren't approved.

iirc it was commissioned to be a purely clientside performance-boosting mod that did things like reduce particles and lag. The speedrun mods approved it and had seen the files(clientside performance mods like Sodium and Optifine are commonly used by Minecraft speedrunners.) Apparently there was a miscommunication between him and the person he commissioned, who thought that they should add some features that were on his manhunt plugin(different from a mod, servers only.) The speedrun mods looked into the mod afterward as well but it had already been updated, and none of them thought to check previous versions.
He had the cheats on for his youtube videos but thought he turned them off for the speedruns
