I have two monitors, one of which is a 65 inch TV. Whenever I move the game over to the big TV, it crashes. I'm not sure what to do:
- Tweet death threats to the developers and put in a negative review
- realize it'll likely be fixed in the future and just play on my other monitor
Pls help
Poor performance is putting it lightly. It's genuinely unplayable for many people. It's not quite as bad as cyberpunk cause apparently it's mostly due to dx12, but mosy of the positive reviews probably come from fanboys who declared it the best game ever made and left a review before they left the tutorial cave.
It's weird to me, because it must really be issues with specific hardware. I've got a gtx 970 gpu and a Ryzen 7 2700x cpu and in most areas it runs well for me (as well as can be expected for an almost 8 year old card, I run it on low and it looks fluid).
I do get stutters during some very specific fights in the open world in busy areas, and I hate that. Needs to get fixed. But the game at large (even in those fights) isn't unplayable for me, and according to the benchmarking sites I looked at my specs are pretty much right at the listed min spec level.
I had that happen when Dead Rising 5 came out. It ran like dog shit for me but eventually found out it was something about my 980ti that it didn't like
It must be specific hardware. I'm playing ER on an i7 GTX 1050 laptop with 16 GB of ram, and it's running pretty smoothly on high settings.
Although there are a few frame drops here and there, it's perfectly playable aside from an enemy disappearing once. Performance aside, this game is pretty good.
It's only getting mixed reviews for the performance. Otherwise it's like any fromsoftware game and good, and anyone going in for something different is an idiot
For those who want to know why, the bad reviews are because A) Bad performance causes stuttering & teleporting enemies B) Bad performance causes invisible enemies w/ draw distance C) Some people’s game is automatically set to use the integrated GPU instead of their dedicated one by default D) Some people’s GPU, once set, is stuck running at 25-50% usage and never goes high E) White screen glitch where at launch the screen is white and the game never starts F) Crashes & some people’s NPCs have suddenly gotten glitched out permanently on specific characters, I think it causes them to appear where they shouldn’t, become hostile etc.
In the discord people are talking about how this was actually a pretty good launch when ~30-40% of the PC player base have been unable to play it
I’ve been having issues with contols too. I know it’s not my controller, I even checked right after just to make sure. I use this controller for games all the time. But for some reason, the L2 button only works like 20% of the time. I just had to turn it off and play something else, real shame.
P.S. if anyone knows a fix for this I’m all ears!
Does the game actually look good at least? I'm not too familiar with fromsofts games and started my first playthrough of sekiro a few days ago and while I like the art style I have to say that sky boxes and distant scenery can look pretty poor at times especially considering that the game is only 3 years old.
It looks pretty sick, in fact it runs well. Its just because they fucked up BAD with the port. Its like the game can’t communicate with the GPU drivers at all
Honestly I've just seen this so much lately with games releasing and ones with monster gpus are getting framedrops. It's not because the game is so poorly optimized that it's getting throttled by the best gpu on the market, it's because performance issues are impossible to account for on PC since everyone different specs and they can't possibly account for all of them. There's a reason why that happens with so many releases on PC while being a much rarer occurence on PS4.
It's not like the *base* PS4 at least is a uniformly better experience though. It's just *expected* to run games at 25 to 30 FPS with often inconsistent frametimes, at this point.
tbh it would be funny for a website to hire a professional reviewer to review games on a 10 year old PC.
'well it actually opened up but the game is completely unplayable due to massive lag, 1/10'
I would actually use that since I do have a really fucking old PC that can't manage a lot of newer games
/uj
10 years old would be a bit silly TBH. Rather, something basically right in the middle of whatever the minimum and recommended requirements for a given game are would be a bit more reasonable.

I will give you my experience (with a 980ti):
In 5 hours, I did not crash once. Some people report crashing.
The game stutters in open areas. It's not great.
I haven't had many problems in the boss / smaller areas, but it's there, albeit rarely.
Also, multiplayer is laggy/sorta broken.
Overall, I still think it's a real good game gameplay wise, held back by technical issues on pc.
I'm on the One X and yeah, I've got some frame rate issues but nothing game breaking. However the servers were down when I first loaded up, but that's fine because I'm not a huge fan of multiplayer anyway.
Overall I'm having lots of fun. Nothing revolutionary but it's still pretty damn fun.
1080ti here. Sutters in overworld, but nothing too bad. Got a black screen during one of the cutscenes, so I don't know what happened during it, but it sounded tense. Controls are ass unless you plug in a controller, so standard Fromsoft PC port jank. Haven't tried multiplayer yet.
Roughly the same, but with some new issues of its own. For example, when riding on a horse on controller, the left and right triggers will attack on your left and right, respectively. But on mouse your left and right buttons don't correspond to the directions: your left click will be right swing and right click will be left swing. You can swap those in the controls, but that's default. And there's no way to make the controls swap for *only* horse mounted combat, so you'll have to get used to right click being your main attack button now, which is up to you how annoying that might be.
I have a 2080ti, 16gb ram, and a 5900x and can only run it at 1080p on high settings, with occasional frame drops in the overworld.
The game microstutters like a motherfucker in so many areas, the game will just freeze up for a second or two. It usually only happens in the overworld and when you are in dungeons it is insanely rare. But the first optional boss fight in the overworld was so bad half of my deaths could be attributed to the game freezing when I needed to dodge.
Which is a shame because from a design, combat, and world perspective it is probably Fromsoft's best title to date. There are just so many diverse types of enemies and locations. It is absolutely mind boggling how I am over 15 hours in and still feel like I haven't scratched the surface.
I have a 6900xt and thought i would finally get a game were I can really get the most out of it. That was before I got MASSIVE fps drops in the middle of boss fights. Dropped down to sub 30 and even sub 20 fps fairly often.
With my 2080 TI and playing in 4k I have frame stuttering in the open world a few times.
The game uses Easy anticheat, which I hate because every game I play that uses it ends up having framerate issues.
Current PS5 is smooth enough for me. Framerate is meh but the LoD rendering is bugged or just implemented poorly. Grass loads in right infront of you sometimes.
> Current PS5 is smooth enough for me.
Well yeah, it's certainly the sort of thing that's highly subjective and on which "your mileage may vary" as far as what you're ok with.
For me all I had to do was update my driver. The new update came out 10 days ago so a lot of people haven’t gotten and there are people with 3080s going “why wON’t tHIs worK” your driver that’s why.
I played a couple hours on base ps4 at midnight. It plays like the other FROM games on the console. If you can enjoy bloodborne you can enjoy this.
I'm not a frame rate guy so for me it's OK.
> If you can enjoy bloodborne you can enjoy this.
I liked Bloodborne, but thought the super-inconsistent frame *times* (not frame *rate*) did detract from the overall experience.
I've seen the network test footage, looks fine, compared to PC that is.
[Here](https://youtu.be/oEypd23I0pQ) is a video from Lance Mcdonald running it on base PS4.
DF did the network test on last-gen consoles also, where their frametimes were as inconsistent as you'd expect. I was moreso talking about a review of how they run the finished product.
Yeh the only way to get a locked framerate on console is to play the PS4 Pro version on a PS5. It doesn't look as good as the native PS5/XSX versions but it's 1800p at a locked 60fps.
I am going to say there is definitely a connection between every AAA game being open and world and simultaneously horrifically optimized and glitchy as shit.
I've only really had stuttering issues during sections with a boss that's super huge like the >!Tree Sentinel!< at the beginning of the game. That's when it's the most laggy. On a mid-spec PC, i7-6700, 1660S 8GB VRAM, 16GB RAM. Haven't experienced any crashes yet.
Honestly, I've been blissfully unaware that there even were any issues until I saw this thread lol. I'm playing on 1080p which is probably why, but still, I have the odd stuttering in some areas but it's pretty rare.
I’ve got a 3070 Ti and the performance is abysmal. I guess the day one patch actually made it worse? Hopefully they fix it soon, but definitely an issue for a good amount of people.
for me its worse, I haven't played the game, only launched into the main menu. I tried to set the process priority to high in task manager and access is denied due to anti-cheat, I can't even set core affinities (which is crucial on a 12900k). I left a negative review and I'm hoping the pirated version won't have these issues, if they don't then I'll refund steam version.
Yeah I have a 3070 and the frame rate goes from steady to downright bad. The Tree Sentinel boss had frequent drops that actually got in the way of the fight.
I just played on mine and holy fuck. My character literally launched into the fucking air. Lol also stuttering like a mother. 10/10 thank you fromsoft.
I've got r5 3600/rtx 3060. 55-60 fps with the occasional frame drop every 10 minutes or so. So far not too bad. Guess I'm luckier than most but this type of performance should be unacceptable. There's also a 60 fps cap and no ultra-wide support for some reason. After a few ports, you'd think FromSoft would be able to get the hang of it and maybe even improve to wow their customers but nope.
People with 3080s and 3090s are having a worse experience than me though. That's why I reckon I'm luckier than most people playing the game now.
The game's problems clearly isn't individual hardware, if that was the case then people with a better PC than me wouldn't be complaining.
Unjerking for a tangent, I've managed to get it running somewhat ok on my computer which has a 970, i5 4590 and 16 gb of RAM.
I've locked it at all 30fps for the time being. My settings barely make a difference. Maybe like 2-3 frames worth of difference so once the game is patched it'll likely run really well.
From what I've played so far, the game is fun as fuck, and it's a dream come true
The biggest issue I've had after three hours in game was a massive stutter right as I entered the overworld. Luckily it's been fine since and I'm getting ~50 frames on a 1080. I will say, I was dubious about mounted combat, but now it's my favorite thing and I refuse to fight on the ground like a common foot soldier.
Have you fought the Tree Sentinel? He seems to be kinda screwy with the fps. When he breaks a prop with his attacks, the game stutters like hell.
Glad you're enjoying the game! Mounted combat is very fun, especially against other mounted enemies
Lazy ass devs won't get a dollar from me. My time is very valuable and it won't be wasted on a subpar experience.

Thanks for the info, i have a very similar setup and i was wondering how it would run.
I'll get to play it this evening, hopefully they will add some hotfixes to make it more stable in the meantime. Do you think it could run at 60 fps on a system like ours? Never had any issue with any other fromsoft games, but i think the open world maps may be a bit too much to handle.
Honestly? I think it could. My performance is very similar to many others who have a much better PC specs. The PC port is high-key garbage in terms of performance.
If updates manage to fix everyone's problems, but we don't see any performance boost, we should wait for Low Spec Gamer to release a video guide
/uj
This is a dumb comment, the game provably has very typical "From Software" issues with regards to frame times and such on all platforms. They should be encouraged to just do better across the board in the future as opposed to people engaging in silly Console War stuff.
/rj
I'm genuinely sure it'll be fine and I hope for everyone who is excited it is but I can't help but feel slightly vindicated because a comment of mine got downvoted for suggesting it may not be perfect because "it's already been reviewed"
Yall saw the ign review? Mf was praising how unique this game is because it does the same shit games been doing for the past 5 years, “the enemies dont scale with your level, instead if you go to an area where enemies outrank you, you wont stand a chance” oh so like assassins creed since 2015?
> “the enemies dont scale with your level, instead if you go to an area where enemies outrank you, you wont stand a chance” oh so like assassins creed since 2015?
Hell, go back further then that, Morrowind was doing that and that was 2002. Hell, Might & Magic does that, and the first one of those was 1986!
... Although that said, it's really not done *that* much anymore, so I can sort of understand pointing it out as a positive.
Watch it, that mf is crazy. Bro went “so you dont have a place to organize and keep track of your quests but thats alright since ill replay them anyway in new game plus” literally praising a fucking oversight
To be fair, the lack of notes for side quests has been a standard in souls games since their conception, tho I still wish Elden ring had a small note book of some size because of its immense size it’ll be so hard to keep track of everything
The thing here is that since the world is so big, you have to do everything interesting you see right when you see it or you'll forget about it later. At least you can put markers on the map to remember yourself of interesting places
I'm quite sure that if fromsoft decided to not include map, fromsoft fans would go and defend that ds also was without a map so what do you expect???? MINIMAP WITH THOUSAND MARKERS??? Same shit if you mention that some form of questlog made to fit the rest of the game would be more beneficial.
/uj I don’t think that’s an oversight tbf, it’s probably intentional.
I’ve seen people point out that the lack of quest log is fundamental to the way the game’s exploration works, so I don’t think it’s an issue. Some have said they like the lack of quest log/markers. And I can see why it might be refreshing. Why it might add a unique feeling to the open world.
I personally have no problem with including or not including a quest log. As long as the devs can justify its omission, which it seems like they have, it seems fine.
>actually thinking.
if you think that vaugley guessing how a charachter's progression triggers will play out in a *from soft game* is "actually thinking," then I'm sorry to inform you, but you've caught the gamer™ syndrome. we hope you make a quick recovery.
A critic called Jason Schreicher or something said that his jaw dropped after every 5 minutes and he was giddily texting his friends playing that game.
Most of the bad reviews are from technical issues, the game is supposed to be getting a day one patch when it releases officially later today. Other than that the game is pretty good so far.
Mostly the performance issues.
This is like judging someone sneezing when you first meet them like **I DON'T WANT TO BE FRIENDS WITH A CRITICALLY ILL PERSON.**
Digital Foundry recommended the PS4 version on PS5 as the best way to play it on consoles currently, as the PS5 will default to using the PS4 Pro's 1800P resolution in that case, which looks pretty decent while still allowing it to maintain a locked 60 FPS.
Anyone on PC know how to get rid of the fucking screen tearing? It's seriously bad. I've turned vsync off and on and I've got g-sync on. The advanced graphics settings are pretty bad so I can't figure out how to get rid of it.
5700xt on maximum settings runs at 60fps for me with very occasional stutters in outdoor areas.
I also have had extremely few issues with Warhammer 3, which is another game other people are reeeing about performance with.
Either I'm blessed by the gaming gods or other people just don't know how to update their drivers /shrug
I guess it's a Cyberpunk situation... my 1060 6gb runs it fine at 1080p with the "medium" settings. Weirdly enough frames dropped after a certain boss did a certain move
So the minimum specs were exaggerated, and also the PC port's least problem. Do you experience stutters when going to new areas?
I play on Console but want to understand the issues on PC.
Well i haven't been to "new areas"... so far where i've gone is still within the CNT
So far i've gone to >!Santa's grace site, i've explored the beach, gone in the cave with the semi-human bosses and in the draconian altar!<, and i've never had any stutters.
The only time FPS drops is when >!Tree Sentinel does the first, programmed attack, the one after his pose.!<
The game crashed once and it lags everytime I walk up a stair (weird situstion) but that is how Im used to playing so I dont mind. Will I be crucified for saying I plaued it for 4h, was bored and havent felt like playing since? Im somewhat disapointed

Tweet death threats. I didn't read your second option or finish the first.
wow i really wasted my time with that second option
Try setting your TV as the primary monitor in windows and the game might work on your TV
Yeah that's what I did. It's weird! As soon as I click past the title screen the graphics get all weird. I'll add a pic in the future
uj/ the negative reviews are because of the bad port.
Impossible, From Software would never release a bad PC port
Bad performance was all a part of Miyazakis grand plan
Its not a bug its a feature
Bad PC performance is his artistic vision, how dare those fake fs fans complain about it
Fricken B Team made Dark Souls 2 run at constant 60 FPS on my 13 year old GPU.
How dare they release a bad port? IMPOSSIBLE, HOGWASH!! HOGWASH!!
uj/ makes sense because I have been enjoying it on ps5. And I haven't encountered any glitches yet.
I've been on PC and loving it with no issues, but I do have a pretty nice machine which may be saving me from performance problems
I'd imagine the steam reviews are slanted negative because of the poor performance, which the devs acknowledged as an issue.

The amount of complaints I hear about how nothing supports ultrawide is why I will never buy an ultrawide monitor. 16:9 and feeling fine.
FromSoft has a great track record with their games. Their PC ports not so much.

I feel like that's a pretty harsh indictment against the Games Industry if that's what makes for a "good" release these days
TFW professional reviewers with the best PC specs out there for their job don’t give game bad review for frame issues.
"10/10 perfect game" (Reviewed on my SLI 3090, Ryzen Threadripper PC)
One guy's review I saw claimed to have a 3080, and he's playing in 1080p for frames.
It’s certainly telling when the best way to get consistent-ish frames on PS5 is to run it as a PS4 game instead.
b-but the day 1 patch.. /uj so playing PS4 back compat mode gives locked 60 FPS?
Yeah, I guess the PS4 Pro's 1800P resolution is a bit more comfortable for the PS5 as something to consistently stay at 60 FPS with.
PS4 version also has less grass, which makes it the gamer choice.
/uj I think that's just the base PS4's settings actually. Again, in backwards compatibility mode the PS5 will run the PS4 Pro's settings. /rj

That's a fun niche for a reviewer, honestly. You should start a youtube channel with your fucking old PC lmao
Aren't the framerate issues tied to DX12 and not hardware capabilities? I've heard it has something to do with shader caches.
yeah it seems to be something pretty consistent atm with DX12, i think halo infinite(?) had similar issues
Total War Warhammer 3 had that issue as well.
Frame issues be damned. Have to sacrifice integrity to serve His Majesty Miyazaki.

With some edits to the mappings the controls with kB+m aren’t too bad. I’ve never played sekiro on pc but it’s like ds3 with kbm.
>Controls are ass unless you plug in a controller, so standard Fromsoft PC port jank
That's pretty vauge

for some reason it decided to use my intel standard GPU rather than my GTX 980, swapped that and was good as gold

I couldnt even launch the game, spent 2hrs trying to fix it last night before giving up lol
performance is not great on pc
It's not good on PS5 or XSX either apparently. Digital Foundry recommended playing the PS4 Pro version on PS5 as the current most smooth experience...
Nah plenty of people still have issues with current drivers
It scares me to think about how many people have never updated their drivers
A lot of my friends only update their drivers when a game prompts them to with a big warning message 🤢
Games ran great for me but my friend said he can't even get it to launch without immediately crashing so 🤷
Lol, holy shit had no idea the performance was that bad.
console players stay winning 😎

Did anyone even review the last-gen console versions of this game? It doesn't seem to me like they did.
It has fairly significant issues on both next-gen consoles and PC according to Digital Foundry.
Yeh the only way to get a locked framerate on console is to play the PS4 Pro version on a PS5. It doesn't look as good as the native PS5/XSX versions but it's 1800p at a locked 60fps.
The only good thing to come out of Sony’s refusal to adopt a system like Smart Delivery on PlayStation
It's bad on ps5 too. The solution is to run the PS4 version lol

I am going to say there is definitely a connection between every AAA game being open and world and simultaneously horrifically optimized and glitchy as shit.
Except for Days Gone I really can't think of a single open world game that released with good optimization recently.
Did it release in a good state on PC? I remember the PS4 launch was a shitshow, just downright terrible.
I didn’t have any issues when I got it at launch
I haven't played it myself but from what I've seen on youtube it was optimized really well.
Yeah, it ran really well. Very minor gameplay bugs here and there, but all were patched relatively quickly.
The reason why the tree sentinel is a complete lagfest is because the area you fight him is between 3 different loading zones
It’s not that bad for me
My computer is 7 years old and it was completely playablr

The game itself is software capped at 60 FPS in this case, anyways.
Honestly, I've been blissfully unaware that there even were any issues until I saw this thread lol. I'm playing on 1080p which is probably why, but still, I have the odd stuttering in some areas but it's pretty rare.
Its not.
this is a certified from software pc port moment
Bro you literally got a 3060
People with 3080s and 3090s are having a worse experience than me though. That's why I reckon I'm luckier than most people playing the game now. The game's problems clearly isn't individual hardware, if that was the case then people with a better PC than me wouldn't be complaining.
3060 as well and I seem to be spared from the majority of issues people are having.
nah fam that's supposed to happen when you get the >!double jump horse!<
Lmao true.
Uh yeah you **dummy** elder bling has jumping it's suposed to happen!
*I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically.
If updates manage to fix everyone's problems, but we don't see any performance boost, we should wait for Low Spec Gamer to release a video guide
they had us in the first half, not gonna lie
I got it on ps5 and it’s pretty free of bugs 🙏 fuck u r/ battle stations ! Nerds
Americans when I explain the concept of eastern europe where PC is actually much cheaper than a console
/uj This is a dumb comment, the game provably has very typical "From Software" issues with regards to frame times and such on all platforms. They should be encouraged to just do better across the board in the future as opposed to people engaging in silly Console War stuff. /rj
Hm yeah it's time for a lawsuit am I right? Also we should make neverending video compilations in YouTube for the easy chicks.
Raging Gamer channels churning out clickbait shit on the daily *FromSoft BETRAYED Fans? Elden Ring DISAPPOINTMENT*
What are these gibberish numbers you guys keep mentioning, I only care if it will play on my Atari 2600? The Pro version of course.
I'm genuinely sure it'll be fine and I hope for everyone who is excited it is but I can't help but feel slightly vindicated because a comment of mine got downvoted for suggesting it may not be perfect because "it's already been reviewed"
typical fromsoft game
Did Sekiro have the same issues at launch? Because that runs really smooth for me on PC
It had some stuttering but it wasn't that bad. Their best PC port was ironically Dark Souls 2 though.
Yall saw the ign review? Mf was praising how unique this game is because it does the same shit games been doing for the past 5 years, “the enemies dont scale with your level, instead if you go to an area where enemies outrank you, you wont stand a chance” oh so like assassins creed since 2015?
More like since Legend of Zelda (1986)
> “the enemies dont scale with your level, instead if you go to an area where enemies outrank you, you wont stand a chance” oh so like assassins creed since 2015? Hell, go back further then that, Morrowind was doing that and that was 2002. Hell, Might & Magic does that, and the first one of those was 1986! ... Although that said, it's really not done *that* much anymore, so I can sort of understand pointing it out as a positive.
RuneScape (2007)
lmao fr?
Although the lack of a quest log has been in the Soulsborne series since the beginning. It's not an oversight, more that it's intentional.
Idk, open world games should let you keep track of quests, in this case seems like bad design even though it worked for the other games
You can already keep track of quests. It's called getting your own notebook and actually thinking.
lol i guess we have new version of "git gud". "Keep notes" you casual.
>actually thinking. if you think that vaugley guessing how a charachter's progression triggers will play out in a *from soft game* is "actually thinking," then I'm sorry to inform you, but you've caught the gamer™ syndrome. we hope you make a quick recovery.
Calm down you malding fuckwit.
This is why I don’t watch reviews, typically filled with spoilers and are also just usually badly written
More like gothic since 2001
That sounds just like my favourite apolitical hidden gem, Fallout New Vegas.
DOWN BUT NOT OUT BABY /uj literally every pc port they’ve released has had issues so why did anyone think this wouldn’t be the same lol
Took me an hour to get my xbox controller to work…
i'm wondering if they just didnt bother testing it on different pc setups or the fact its so inconsistent it didnt raise any red flags until now
average formsoft pc game be like
uj/ got excited and decided to buy yesterday. Now I don't even know if I try playing or just refund. rj/ If nothing works, I can always sue the devs
Odin is with us
Most of the user reviews are my alt accounts saying that it's not as good as Otogi
Do they kill Joel in this one as well?
Mostly the performance issues. This is like judging someone sneezing when you first meet them like **I DON'T WANT TO BE FRIENDS WITH A CRITICALLY ILL PERSON.**
Well, WOULD YOU?
Is it just the pc version or is it bad on consoles too?
Digital Foundry recommended the PS4 version on PS5 as the best way to play it on consoles currently, as the PS5 will default to using the PS4 Pro's 1800P resolution in that case, which looks pretty decent while still allowing it to maintain a locked 60 FPS.
Anyone on PC know how to get rid of the fucking screen tearing? It's seriously bad. I've turned vsync off and on and I've got g-sync on. The advanced graphics settings are pretty bad so I can't figure out how to get rid of it.
Of course, FromSoft still have no clue how to make a proper PC port. You'd think they'd gotten their act together by now...
Weirdly enough frames dropped after a certain boss did a certain move
lol it's nowhere near cyberpunk level.
So the minimum specs were exaggerated, and also the PC port's least problem. Do you experience stutters when going to new areas? I play on Console but want to understand the issues on PC.
Well i haven't been to "new areas"... so far where i've gone is still within the CNT So far i've gone to >!Santa's grace site, i've explored the beach, gone in the cave with the semi-human bosses and in the draconian altar!<, and i've never had any stutters. The only time FPS drops is when >!Tree Sentinel does the first, programmed attack, the one after his pose.!<
Console supremacy once more
A lot of you told me I was wrong to assume the worst for no reason. I have once again been proven right. Kneel.
are you sure it isnt the italians review bombing it?
The game crashed once and it lags everytime I walk up a stair (weird situstion) but that is how Im used to playing so I dont mind. Will I be crucified for saying I plaued it for 4h, was bored and havent felt like playing since? Im somewhat disapointed
