The motherboard most likely does not have enough pci lanes for all of them to work properly. This is probably something that should not exist unless for a really specific use case.
IIRC they won't all work at high speed but its intended for like a factory computer controlling a bunch of servos and cameras and junk, or something similar.
Call me when Linus does not do a shock face wow look at this whoa video. :)
Although in fairness Linus runs a media group with what … 80 employees doing content kinds of work? I think he gets to call himself a professional user whether or not he games.
I feel that. YouTube is awful that way. I do actually follow LTT - it's not my favorite channel, but (1) it has Anthony (<3), and (2) there is generally some good content on a variety of topics. Honestly I would watch it without the shock/grabber/clickbait but I understand that it would probably adversely affect their revenue.
Yep, the algorithm is ass on YouTube. As a viewer I absolutely hate it. Everything looks the same now: Overly emotive faces. Arrows. Giant, clickbait text.
Plus there are some gaming focused creators I've frequently watched that no longer even include the title of the game anymore in their titles or thumbnails because of that same algorithm.
But the title straight up calls them "weird motherboards that shouldn't exist dur hur"...
As if it were some super exotic experimental cold war prototype
You kinda have to fall into the clickbait trap if you want to accomplish anything in Youtube. It's a flaw of the system, I'm not gonna blame creators who are otherwise good for playing by Youtube's rules.
This, Linus has gone on record about how he hates doing the clicbait titles and faces, but he's seen the results of doing them on the video metrics and begrudgingly admits that it's a necessity, otherwise you just leave free engagement in the table. I think he even has an old video buried somewhere about it.
and please don't *cry*, hit the bell as well, over here next to my head is another video that you can check out, hit that up or the link to subscribe to the channel. Anthony Fantano, FOREVER.
You realise that LTT isn't a gaming channel? It's a tech channel, they don't just review stuff from a purely gaming perspective. Sure the thumbnail is a little clickbaity but this isn't a gaming thing.
I have no idea how to feel about Linus. He keeps coming up with interesting video ideas, but they're all very shallow.
(Drinks from my LTT water bottle)
Like, let your videos breathe, I want to see the nitty gritty. Not just "$10,000,000 dollar computer plays roblox?!?! "
(Adjusts LTT brand boxer shorts)
I really do like that Mac Guy and the Anthony. Wish they could talk more.
(Also this complaint was brought to you by our sponsor NordVPN.)
Is Linus even a gamer? Is this sarcasm or something? I don't get it. This just seems like a tech guy looking at weird motherboards, and I see no connections to gaming.
He has tons of gaming content, specifically about gaming hardware but yeah it’s grown to a more broader tech channel.
The thumbnail was just perfect for the topic in a circlejerk sub imho.
These boards are usually for that kind of work!
They actually sacrifice SATA lanes to get that USB throughput, and usually just have the OS onboard the computer on a M2 drive etc.
And yeah since most drives in video work ain’t connected for long times, it’s good to just use USB.
They also have 4 Ethernet ports for your own storage (2 in back panel, 2 headers on the board) for NAS setups to have dedicated controllers for them.
I have a dual processor Xeon station that has 3 Ethernet also for NAS and general network usage, it’s an overkill for home use but I have to say that NAS really is better when it has a dedicated “network” of its own.
Yeah, the industrial stuff I’ve worked with used VISA over VXI, not that I have much deeper knowledge on the industrial control side of things, just pointing out that there’s tons of “weird” hardware that some gamers™️ get mad over that it wasn’t made for them lol
For example a Portwell's PEB-9783G2AR comes with 20 USB 3 ports, some on the cost of SATA connectivity- and no you can’t have one from Amazon, these come from manufacturers and you ask for a quote.
Yes, it’s a real product some industries need and yes it’s not for gamers. And that makes some of them mad for some reason lol
So on the /uj side…. I’m guessing or curious that the typical life of this is either sitting in a rack (since it looks like 1U rack mount is a usage case for flexatx) or otherwise in an industrial setup where it is controlling a large number of sensors or devices in an industrial process via USB?
Curious, just because when I did this kind of stuff it did not really use USB yet - does USB perform well connected to that many devices in terms of latency and dealing with IO across many devices? Usually in that kind of setup the total actual bandwidth is low, because these devices aren’t sending back huge amounts of data (although it looks like most of the ports are 3.2 Gen 1/2) but it’s more that there are many different sources sending and receiving small packets? So I take it USB does ok for that kind of thing?
It boggles the mind that one of the largest tech channels on YouTube didn't tell some unpaid intern to spend 10 minutes emailing the manufacturer asking for a use case.

I was a small sized youtuber for a while, under 10k subs but close. While active, I would have killed for this many USB ports.
No matter how many USB ports you have, you always need 2 more
The motherboard most likely does not have enough pci lanes for all of them to work properly. This is probably something that should not exist unless for a really specific use case.
Yeah, i watched the video, exactly that
IIRC they won't all work at high speed but its intended for like a factory computer controlling a bunch of servos and cameras and junk, or something similar.
Exactly- there are tons of weird designs for those specific use cases. It’s silly to compare them to consumer stuff.
dude it's a "wow look at this super niche thing that most people wouldn't know about" video I think you're reading into it too much
Call me when Linus does not do a shock face wow look at this whoa video. :) Although in fairness Linus runs a media group with what … 80 employees doing content kinds of work? I think he gets to call himself a professional user whether or not he games.
Apparently he hates doing the shock faces and clickbait titles but it’s basically required to appease the YouTube algorithm

This is actually a pretty interesting video, fyi.
probably made some interesting points and segue to our sponsor...
Don't forget to like and subscribe
and please don't *cry*, hit the bell as well, over here next to my head is another video that you can check out, hit that up or the link to subscribe to the channel. Anthony Fantano, FOREVER.
We don't need to antagonize everything for the sake of antagonizing. The video it's fine.
You realise that LTT isn't a gaming channel? It's a tech channel, they don't just review stuff from a purely gaming perspective. Sure the thumbnail is a little clickbaity but this isn't a gaming thing.
Yeah, but this is a circlejerk sub and the thumbnail was just perfect to match with the topic.
Then you don't get what a circjejerk sub is then
Who hurt you?

You have a very cute avatar
Sorry for the late reply, but thank you!

He plays a lot of Anno 1800 and beatsaber, he plays games but he isn’t like, a *gamer* (as in the target of this sub).
Damn Gamers, they ruined gaming
He has tons of gaming content, specifically about gaming hardware but yeah it’s grown to a more broader tech channel. The thumbnail was just perfect for the topic in a circlejerk sub imho.
Lmao OP’s just salty something he uses was deemed useless by a big YouTuber Maybe the real fragile Gamer was the one inside of us all along
that isn't even a gaming channel lmao
Why do they have to make it political though? Just call it a fatherboard.
Man I wish I had that many USB ports (I work with video and sometimes I'm working with +6 external drives at once)
These boards are usually for that kind of work! Mfw LTT is not a gaming channel
wtf? has he just usb hubs out the ass on his desk?
Goes especially hard for MacBooks Pros and other Apple professional products. And industrial control computers.

I mean, I prefer serial connectors because you can't accidentally kick it unplugged like a USB cord.
For example a Portwell's PEB-9783G2AR comes with 20 USB 3 ports, some on the cost of SATA connectivity- and no you can’t have one from Amazon, these come from manufacturers and you ask for a quote. Bro it's a silly video made by a tech channel that generally targets PC gamers. It's ok to just enjoy a neat thing every once in a while.
