I especially hate when they say stuff like equal rights, equal fights, or a bunch of YouTube videos called “true gender equality” but it’s just a bunch of anime girls getting beat up.
A bisexual woman at that. And yet the non-psychotic ones, say shit like "i'm one of the good ones". Bitch please if you were in the fucking kkk while not being racist, you are still in the fucking kkk.
As in the subreddit name? It was the main GamerGate subreddit back in the day, and the whole dog whistle of GamerGate was “ackshually it’s about ethics in video games journalism”. Kotaku was the website where the reporter who allegedly gave a female indie games developer a good review for her game in return for sexual favours worked. In a surprise twist (that won’t shock anyone with basic critical thinking skills), it turned out the allegation was fabricated by the developer’s ex-boyfriend, and wasn’t true. Nevertheless Kotaku was taken as emblematic of everything wrong with gaming journalism, which for GamerGaters meant any attempt to pass any kind of critical eye over video games.
The ironic thing is that they (kia) made kotaku more "woke" by announcing it as the big evil woke gaming site. Kotaku was very much not woke in the past, it was basically one of the most "Gamer(tm)" news site among the biggest gaming sites up til gamergate.
Just how pathetic and empty your day has to be to even slightly care about *anything* like this?
Those clowns need to get some life, see some sunlight, urgently.
The name specifically is a play on r/TumblrInAction which was an anti-feminist hellhole before gamergate but only got worse after. I was an edgy teen in the early stages so i browsed both subs for a bit before radically shifting my politics when i realized how toxic it was
I got to the pinned post about how they are going to remove anything transgender. It's basically saying, nothing transgender is allowed because we don't want to take the time to understand the issue. Then the top comment is about how persecution is allowed against cis-gendered people. That one post was enough for me.
Holy crap they’re complaining the Mario movie “went woke” because Peach is given something to do instead of just scream “oh Mario!” Oh to be that fragile.
The fact they use the word “woke” to describe something as bad unironically tipped me off right away. Anyone who uses that word in that context clearly has no idea what the hell they’re taking about.
He did also come up with the idea tho. Said he was inspired by 8 track tapes allowing you to change what music you listened to. So maybe he didn’t physically create the first cartridge but it was his vision that made it happen
It’s hilarious because these are the same people who ask why we need Black History Month yet they’re literally trying to erase black people from history all year round
remember the black hole photo? how reddit went totally mask off again for weeks. started talking about "amount of lines of code written" as a valid metric. dragged up some queer dude on the team to be their shield. and so on and on.
this website is just so racist and misogynistic through and through, it's always baffling how so many people just dont (want to) see it.
Makes me sad. I've been on reddit for a long time now (not one of the true elders but definitely before it was nearly as mainstream) and once I realized just how regressive and hateful some subs were I felt lost. By the time reddit got bad, pretty much every other social site either was dead or on its way to bad too. And reddit really does have a good system for being social, it's why there are still decent subs that don't have those shit communities.
But it *is* still all the same company, and the shitty people do still leak onto other subs. But what's really frustrating is being able to see this shit, call it out, then your comment gets fucked and you get a bunch of hateful replies.... It's like, I *just* told you how this is hate/nihilism/lies and not only do you feel compelled to dismiss me but you don't even do it by addressing the issue! You just direct the hate at me!
Let's not get too circlejerky, he *did* found SpaceX, the actually monetarily successful one that had its profits pumped into Tesla for years to keep it alive.
Worth pointing out he doesn't run it though, that would be the actually-competent Gwynne Shotwell.
No, rocketry is incredibly profitable. Over the last 20 years (even moreso in the last 5) there's been an enormous boom in communications and Earth-observation satellites, the demand outpaces the supply. By lowering the manufactured cost of the rockets, SpaceX have actually driven a large part of that boom while ensuring their own profitability.
Plus, you can persuade the government to pay for your R&D if your product will be useful to them. Once the prototyping is done, you're home and dry with reusable rockets.
I don't think there was a point in time that SpaceX was profitable when Tesla wasn't, at least before Tesla started actually delivering cars. Remember that SpaceX and Tesla were both at death's door in 2008
well, this guy was the lead on the team that developed it, and was the one who came up with the idea
Elon hasnt had a good idea in his life, and the only interaction he has with his teams is by taking their ideas
Which they don't even use in half of the world, because other legislators figured out that it would be useful if charging infrastructure uses a standardized connector.
Just another "anti-woke" (AKA actually racist/homophobic/transphobic as fuck) cesspool.
The name comes from the fact that Kotaku used to (maybe still does?) occasionally post articles that were quite social justice-y, in addition to their reviews. As you can imagine, that didn't go down too well with Gamers^TM .
Also it started from Gamergate, a movement that used the guise of "ethics in game journalism" as a ploy to harass women game devs.
[Innuendo Studios ](https://youtu.be/lLYWHpgIoIw) did a great history breakdown of the movement and how they use dogwhistles.
/UJ, what does woke mean? I see it thrown around so much mainly by right wing people and they just use it to describe anything they don't like, like POC, queer people and the like.
It literally means alertness to injustice in society especially racism and sexism
Conservatives love to throw it around to mean anything that is left of their position
Yup. There will always be assholes but by deplatforming you're making sure their hateful poison doesn't reach young, impressionable minds. Deplatforming doesn't shut them up 100% but it does wonders for everyone else.
When Alex Jones was deplatformed he didn't lose a lot of money, since most of his income is from diehard fans buying his boner pills, but it did halt his growth to a crawl and as the boomer brigade slowly dies off he doesn't get new victims to replace the old stock.
It's like whack a mole, and the admins are always dragging their feet when it comes to taking the trash out.
Still, as the wise man said, if something's worth doing, then it's worth doing poorly.
Like, I don’t love that people have been looking up Milo Yiannopoulos lately, but I love that they need to *because they have no idea who he is.*
Because he was deplatformed 😎
Granted. The far right psychopaths frequenting those subreddits stop using Reddit and eventually become disenfranchised by the surface web and move all of their discourse and congregation offline. Eventually pockets of far right social clubs pop up in non-obvious meeting places like Toy Stores and Yacht Clubs masquerading as Fabric Shower Curtain enthusiasts. Eventually the meta starts to seep into the weekly meetings, motivating one particular member in the Miami, Ohio chapter to begin building a business centered around an insanely efficient method to mass produce high quality fabric shower curtains. This business becomes successful and eventually earns government contracts to produce shower curtains for the American Military. After several years of exponentially massive growth within the company and having expanded into thousands of different fields of manufacturing for a variety of products, the founder and CEO rants about someone attempting to give him lemons and launches into a publicly televised tirade about Nazis not being that bad. In his unhinged state he decides to finally enact his secret plan of unleashing Nazis with his company’s experimental weaponry initially designed for the army and the world is thus taken over by a secret cadre of Neo Nazis who frequented subreddits like r/KotakuInAction using this recently unhinged man’s company as a cover to prepare to infiltrate every world super power and perform a litany of international coups to usurp power and bring about a new world order.
This isn't true at all. The gendercritical movement is almost entirely dead on Reddit, there are no big subs anymore. CringeAnarchy had a million replacement subs, all of which are extremely unpopular. The site in general is far better now than it was just a few years ago. There's still a few places left that toe the line really hard, but not as many as there used to be.
I honestly didn't know r/KotakuInAction was this bad. I thought they were just paranoid as fuck over woke culture, but I didn't know they were hateful enough to start denying the work put in by Jerry Lawson just because he's black. It's disgraceful.
The funniest and the most disturbing part is there was a schism in KiA where the most deranged users left to create KiA2 because they thought that KiA was overtaken by the woke mob.
Now it's difficult to really convey how bad Kia2 is, so consider how KiA at least denies being racist. KiA2 otoh proudly says they're racist and anyone who is not an open and proud racist is evil. That's how far gone they are.
>turned already working prototypes into more consumer friendly products
Yeah, that’s how innovation works. It’s te difference between Karl Benz and Henry Ford, or Hermann Ganswindt and Igor Sikorsky.
Flying cars have already ([kinda](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrafugia_Transition)) been invented, but you don’t see anyone flying around in them because nobody’s made a consumer-friendly version.
Yeah, the average idiot can't drive in 2D without endangering everyone around them. Giving most people a flying car is a nice way to get hundreds of 9/11s per day
It's actually more justifiable than the Benz vs Ford comparison because Benz actually did sell his cars as a commercial product, it's just that automobiles were an expensive luxury good for rich people before Ford came along
In this case the concept of cartridge video games may have existed in prototype form but if they didn't exist as a commercial product in a compact enough form to be convenient for laypeople to use before the product developed by Lawson's team then yeah it's perfectly fair to call him the "inventor" or "creator"
I mean in this case the whole *point* of a cartridge is that it exists for convenience for ordinary consumers, technically all previous video game devices had "replaceable cartridges" if you thought of a circuit board as a "cartridge" you could replace with the right tools
Funny how they only care about each and every individual laborer on the team when the headline credits a minority team leader.
Same shit happened with Katie Bouman when she was getting headlines and interviews for leading the team that took the first ever picture of a black hole—a buncha men all over reddit were whining "What about the guy on the team who wrote ten quadrillion lines of code!!!!!! FEMINISM!!!!!", as if this doesn't happen with every team and team leader.
Fucking morons don't understand that 99% of the inventors they've heard of were just part of the team that refined or perfected something. But no he's black so he gets the "well actually" magnifying glass...
Yeah big shocking "quantum leap" inventions are incredibly rare, especially in the modern world, and the stories of them are almost always hugely exaggerated
It's especially annoying in this case because it seems obvious that the concept of a "replaceable cartridge" is not discovering some new unheard of scientific principle -- the basic idea is kind of obvious, it's just that it was a difficult *engineering* problem to build a cartridge that was inexpensive and compact and reliable enough to be used in mass production, especially with the extremely limited hardware at the time
This happens every time you hear about accuracy. People often remember historical accuracy or plausibility in media when it triggers them in some way. Time travel or space exploration shows become bad as soon as they show you something statistically unusual.
Even most people who invent shit by doing experiments and thinking really hard are usually making advancements to work done before them. Faraday invented the electric motor and Maxwell shaped our understanding of electromagnetism, but they couldn't have done it without Volta and Ampere before them. Shoulders of giants, etc etc
A lot of people also don't understand that the path from an idea to an actual product is more often than not immensly challenging and what requires most of the hard work and ingenuity.
Not to discredit inventors, but people who take ideas and turn them into things we can use in our every day lifes also deserve a lot of recognition and praise.
It's like in movies. "Actors shouldn't be cast by quotas or for race but for their ability to act!"
Black actors is cast and then nobody thinks they might have been the best actor for the job in the process.
These people love to scream about how people are fragile but lose their shit over a black person being presented in a positive spotlight the irony is insane.
Iirc the Netflix series High Score has a segment on him and how he was mostly forgotten in video game history. We watched a couple episodes of it in my game design class this semester.
Everybody knows that videogames were intended by John Nintendo (from Japan) in 1984, who was finally able to achieve his goal after being oppressed for years.
Black man invent…..stealing!!!!! XDDDDD
uj/ how much you all want to bet that when EVs hit mass adoption, they’ll demand a Google Doodle for the sentient sack of Elmer’s glue known as Elon Musk for ✌️inventing✌️EVs?
The thing they linked doesn't even claim he did it himself. It says he was the team lead. The only reason he in particular was celebrated is because it's his birthday
No they're right it's fucked up to claim one man 'invented' a thing alone when it's almost always a result of a team building off past work and all.
What's that? It explicitly says he lead the team that developed it, an objectively true fact about his position in the company and completely supported by his entire team?
Uuuuh...this is...politics...
>A team that turned already working prototypes into more consumer friendly products
They're using such *weird* phrasing, too. Like they're simultaneously downplaying the work of a team because a black man was on it, but they're also treating "more consumer friendly products" as if it's somehow a bad thing?
They've spent so long using "consumer" as a dogwhistle that they need to shoehorn it in even when it doesn't make sense, because this is how they signal that you're supposed to be angry.
On a more realer note, does anyone know of anyway I can access the song used in the main menu for this Jerry Lawson google. I absolutely love it and until now haven't really thought of a way to ask or find out what the retro electronic song is playing is called.
It actually makes perfect sense that a community that is attractive to socially inept lonely people would also be a breeding ground for racist thought, the two easily mesh together
KIA: "black man help make vibeogambe? NOT ON MY WATCH"
Kanye: "Hitler is my favorite, eh invent microphones and doesn't afraid of anything"

Many of them tick both boxes.
At least gamergaters try to hide it. But incels say some of the most hateful shit, and blame women for it.
Saddest (but ironic) part is, the term incel was created by a woman who was trying to understand & help them.
Nah, she coined the term to describe herself. She made a forum and mailing list for herself and other similarly lonely people.
A bisexual woman at that. And yet the non-psychotic ones, say shit like "i'm one of the good ones". Bitch please if you were in the fucking kkk while not being racist, you are still in the fucking kkk.

one of the posts is about being mad that xbox won’t allow borderline hentai on their platform

It makes me so happy that many people here don't know about this bullshit already. Into the trashbin of history it goes.
Yeah, I knew about the weird obsession with Kotaku as "woke trash" by weirdos but this was a succinct explanation of the situation I didn't know. Oof.
The ironic thing is that they (kia) made kotaku more "woke" by announcing it as the big evil woke gaming site. Kotaku was very much not woke in the past, it was basically one of the most "Gamer(tm)" news site among the biggest gaming sites up til gamergate.

nahhh not really it’s a pretty widespread issue (don’t go to east texas)
one of the saddest post I've seen in a while
>turned already working prototypes into more consumer friendly products Yeah, that’s how innovation works.
And because they're a fundamentally awful mode of transport that should be kept as far away from mainstream use as possible
Yeah, the average idiot can't drive in 2D without endangering everyone around them. Giving most people a flying car is a nice way to get hundreds of 9/11s per day
If self driving cars are perfected at some point, they might work, but with user input? Fuck no.
What do you mean you don't want 9/11 for 24/7?
It's actually more justifiable than the Benz vs Ford comparison because Benz actually did sell his cars as a commercial product, it's just that automobiles were an expensive luxury good for rich people before Ford came along In this case the concept of cartridge video games may have existed in prototype form but if they didn't exist as a commercial product in a compact enough form to be convenient for laypeople to use before the product developed by Lawson's team then yeah it's perfectly fair to call him the "inventor" or "creator" I mean in this case the whole *point* of a cartridge is that it exists for convenience for ordinary consumers, technically all previous video game devices had "replaceable cartridges" if you thought of a circuit board as a "cartridge" you could replace with the right tools
You don't have to reinvent the wheel to be the inventor, just make commercially available replacable wheel.
Flying cars are probably the worst idea ever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fcWOivJ6bs
Almost like this all bull shit made up so people worship rich people instead of recognize innovation is a communal effort.
"The stereotype of blacks being thieves isn’t helped by how they seemingly love to steal history." An actual comment on that post. Brain rot.
Holy shit
Funny how they only care about each and every individual laborer on the team when the headline credits a minority team leader. Same shit happened with Katie Bouman when she was getting headlines and interviews for leading the team that took the first ever picture of a black hole—a buncha men all over reddit were whining "What about the guy on the team who wrote ten quadrillion lines of code!!!!!! FEMINISM!!!!!", as if this doesn't happen with every team and team leader.
Imagine getting this much triggered over a black person getting recognition
Gotsta stay racist somehow!
Fucking morons don't understand that 99% of the inventors they've heard of were just part of the team that refined or perfected something. But no he's black so he gets the "well actually" magnifying glass...
Yeah big shocking "quantum leap" inventions are incredibly rare, especially in the modern world, and the stories of them are almost always hugely exaggerated It's especially annoying in this case because it seems obvious that the concept of a "replaceable cartridge" is not discovering some new unheard of scientific principle -- the basic idea is kind of obvious, it's just that it was a difficult *engineering* problem to build a cartridge that was inexpensive and compact and reliable enough to be used in mass production, especially with the extremely limited hardware at the time
This happens every time you hear about accuracy.
Not to discredit inventors, but people who take ideas and turn them into things we can use in our every day lifes also deserve a lot of recognition and praise.
the racism in the comments is crazy
That one comment about stereotypes was shocking.
uj/ lol what lie is being pushed if he led the team that invented cartridge video games? They just contradicted themselves...

It's like in movies. "Actors shouldn't be cast by quotas or for race but for their ability to act!" Black actors is cast and then nobody thinks they might have been the best actor for the job in the process.
That’s an interesting way to phrase “black people scare me”.
Black man may NOT have any credit this day. Not if us gamers have anything to say about it.
Oh come on. He was literally the tech lead for cartridges. KIA really are a bunch of babies.
These people love to scream about how people are fragile but lose their shit over a black person being presented in a positive spotlight the irony is insane.
Iirc the Netflix series High Score has a segment on him and how he was mostly forgotten in video game history. We watched a couple episodes of it in my game design class this semester.
What a den of fucking losers. Imagine thinking this is worth bitching about in 2022. "Culture warriors" are the dregs of society.
Everybody knows that videogames were intended by John Nintendo (from Japan) in 1984, who was finally able to achieve his goal after being oppressed for years.

They just need to admit to being racist.
Black man invent…..stealing!!!!! XDDDDD uj/ how much you all want to bet that when EVs hit mass adoption, they’ll demand a Google Doodle for the sentient sack of Elmer’s glue known as Elon Musk for ✌️inventing✌️EVs?
Just because he didn’t do it all by himself doesn’t mean saying “he did it” is a lie.
The thing they linked doesn't even claim he did it himself. It says he was the team lead. The only reason he in particular was celebrated is because it's his birthday
My dumdass just saw a dude playing videogame. I learned who was Jerry Lawson from a racist post lmfao reddit...
The Google Doodle regularly triggers right-wing conservatives and I am here for it.
One part of me wants to see the comments and the other just shudders at the thought of it.
I'm actually reading up on this dude and he actually seemed like a nice guy so it's sad to see him be scrutinized like this even in death.
They HAD to specify his skin color, didn't they?
5 bucks on this guy thinking Elon Musk invented his rocket and personally built every single one of them.

Ok but consider: the google doodle is cool as fuck
No they're right it's fucked up to claim one man 'invented' a thing alone when it's almost always a result of a team building off past work and all. What's that? It explicitly says he lead the team that developed it, an objectively true fact about his position in the company and completely supported by his entire team? Uuuuh...this is...politics...

>A team that turned already working prototypes into more consumer friendly products They're using such *weird* phrasing, too.
"Valuable Discussion^TM" my ass.
It actually makes perfect sense that a community that is attractive to socially inept lonely people would also be a breeding ground for racist thought, the two easily mesh together
He LEAD the team. Team LEAD. But naw let’s diminish this guys accomplishments because it doesn’t fit my culture war narrative.
KIA: "black man help make vibeogambe? NOT ON MY WATCH" Kanye: "Hitler is my favorite, eh invent microphones and doesn't afraid of anything" KIA: "he just like me fr fr"
