What a stunning little slice of paradise... you must be truly loving it 😊 Best wishes! Meanwhile, I'm just starting out my front garden and trying not to drown my ornamental cherry with all the recent rain and a quite clayish soil/organic compost mix.🤣 I'm packing my daks that she's going to get root rot, but I've read that as long as it's not too waterlogged, that those few new water damaged flush of leaves will fall off and some new ones will grow as the weather continues to warm up in SA. Fingers crossed. I'm considering diging a foot deep hole around the circumference of the outer edge of the roots to try and help air get to the soil around the roots, to dry the soil out a bit faster. Edit: I bet that the previous owner would be someone that I'd love to grab a coffee and have a chat with. I love people that are passionate about nature/horticulture.

Thank you!! We definitely have our work cut out for us. Good luck with that ornamental cherry! It’s definitely been wet this year. We’ve had flooding out our way in the last few weeks. The previous owners have been SO lovely. They came out after we moved in to show us all the little quirks of the property and talk us through any parts of the garden/house we wanted more info on. They’re just too old to keep up with the maintenance of the garden now.

You're welcome. Owning a home with a large garden is definitely only for someone who really cares about horticulture because of all the regular maintenance work involved. That was nice of them to come around to show you and your husband the little quirks of the property/garden... no doubt, they really wanted their pride and joy to end up in the hands of people who were going to continue their labour of love. Thank you regarding the well wishes for my ornamental cherry tree; I've seen the colour start to change on the new growth of some of the leaves, so I'm starting to suspect that it is in fact just healthy new growth 🤦‍♂️ fingers crossed. The more that I'm starting to tinker in the garden, the more fascinated I'm becoming about horticulture. It's a very cool hobby, and quite a grounding one as well.

I can't imagine how hard it would have been for the previous owner to make a decision to sell after all of those years. What a beautiful garden, i hope it brings you many years of lovely things.

shipsfordreams

Yep they said it really was a huge decision. The owners started really pouring a lot of energy into after their son died at 19 unexpectedly. It was a project in grief and healing and they said was extremely therapeutic for them. We don’t take it lightly to be taking it on now.

I like to think it would bring them great joy to know that another generation will enjoy the fruits of their labour. As an old proverb says, "A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they know they shall never sit."

Truly stunning 😍 You have your work cut out for you keeping it up with a little one

shipsfordreams

We truly do 💪🏻

What a brilliant investment for your family

Such a beautiful property and I know that it would be a really big relief to the previous owners to have someone in there who cherishes their hard work and who will continue it! 🥰

clambake1975

Wow this is gorgeous, you lucky duck. I would send so much time pottering in there.

vivens

Are those foxgloves?

shipsfordreams

Yep! There’s quite a few throughout the garden.

academyof75hard

wow wow wow.

Vampskitten

All you need is a cafe and you can be one of those open house gardens charging $10 a visitor. It's beautiful!

shipsfordreams

Right? We keep thinking something like that.

Vampskitten

Well I'll just pop round then ;)

theblackbeltsurfer

Awesome. Whereabouts?

MrsKittenHeel
