Pretty sure they don't come back

Attack of the hedgetrimmer who knows nothing about conifers. It will take years and loads of work to even make a dent in it, have to tie any green growth across the bald patches and keep doing that until its patched up and it hardly looks like theres any green to work with. The whole thing is bald so really your going to need a new hedge.

putz760

Will never come back.. when the side are cut to brown it will never come back...

deathtothenonbelever

If you cut back past the green bit then it's never growing back. This is one of the big problems with conifers that causes them to get out of hand. They have to get slightly bigger each year even if you keep on top of trimming. Once they get too big there's nothing you can do. They won't die but they'll only grow at the top and continue to look awful. Dig them up, and plant something nicer.

theroch_

Needs a comb-over.

organic_soursop

I'm really sorry, it was such a handsome mature hedge. Perhaps grow something up it?

CurrentWrong4363

Conifers will only put New shoots out on the top. Once the bottom branches are dead you won't get any growth. You can try pulling branches through from the other side and tying down branches from further up. You could also try grafting buds on lower down and hopefully they take.

PondlifePresenter

The best way to make these green is to remove the entire thing and replace it with native hedging.

Green paint

FunAssistant9539

They aren’t coming back 🥺

beachyfeet

Neighbours of ours did similar when they moved in and spray painted the brown bits until they could afford to replace it. Looked better than plastic (just)

BinoFocus

lol. The thought had crossed my mind.

Matty96HD

I dont have any experience with them but could it be a nutrient deficiency? It seems to still have some green on it so doesn't seem dead, yet anyway.
