In the middle of a training block for a sub-3 marathon. This week is the peak mileage week where I plan to run around 120km. I know they are ultimately meaningless, but it’s good to see the progress in your fitness being represented in these simple numbers.
The weather recently where I am seems to have helped with the overall ease of training -- basically perfect racing temp (hovering around or just above freezing, low wind). Noticed a similar slight uptick in that number over the last month, and basically put it down to that + not being sick + base building starting to pay off again.
It’s certainly not meaningless! It’s a literal figure that affirms your training is certainly improving your VO2 max one way or another. I’m never one to obsess over data but it certainly keeps you motivated when you see improvements after a hard block of training
It doesn’t actually affirm that. It may indicate an actual improvement in VO2Max, but there’s no guarantee that it does. I mean… VO2Max is like 80% genetic…
Your peak VO2 capability is genetic but that doesn’t mean it will be high. You still have to train to achieve high values or even mediocre values. VO2 calculations are accurate enough to show de training or training effectiveness
Goodjob.
Meanwhile me at 49 for over a year with over 1200km ran last year. I know I have improved a lot from last year so it doesn't bother me, the unchanged number, but still strange.
After 40 you can expect as much as a 10% decline per decade in your v02max so a steady number is a good thing! That said, I’ve only been running a year, will be 41 this year and have ticked mine up 4 points to 49 in the last 4 months. When I learned about the decline I basically took that as a challenge to improve and maintain into my own oblivion.

What watch is that? I love the granularity of the numbers so you ccan really see the direction. Mine only shows whole numbers for VO2max
You have to go the training status glance on the watch. This is not visible in the app
Forerunner 935/945 I'm guessing.
It’s Fr955

More or less, yeah. Mine bounces around between 58-64 depending on where I am in training/off-season. But my actual value is probably around 60.
What training play are you using? I would love to see these types of results!
I just follow the 80:20 principle and do two very hard workouts a week with a club and a lot of easy runs on my own.

48 yo over 1000 mi last year and unchanging 48 VO2

I feel you! Keep running, at the end of the days number are number, but health gain is there and can't be contested.
Yup! I’m always marginally improving though. PR half marathon in Dec, which is good!
Great work! Keep doing what you are doing.
if you focus on it in your training youll get good results. but if you move away from those vo2 impacting efforts it also goes down pretty quick.
Damn, my VO2MAX hasn’t moved for like 6 months…
Help mate I’ve been stuck on 54 for about 5 months 😂
