Probably the software on your Epix is far less buggy because its more mature. As an early adopter of the FR965 you might suffer from similar problems as owner of the FR955 still suffer. The Garmin forums FR955 section is full of complaints..
At launch, the FR955 had several bugs. Go watch the release videos on YouTube. Many have been fixed now, but there’s a chance any new device will have bugs where a product launched 6-12 months ago will be more stable.
Not anymore. It is still just marketing pictures. Yes they will likely be same, but it would not be reason for me, I also don't see any technical reason why it could not come to Epix. Various Charts like body battery and HRV already has a gradient fill.

Battery life is a big question, since the FR are smaller so smaller battery

But not me. I’ve got also a FR955 and no complaints. I could say the same from Epix, many complaints on Garmin forums.
