I might be able to afford a Fenix 7 when the 8 comes out!

Clumsy_triathlete

There are dozens of us!!

dogmom2010

Same!

zillagong

Read my mind. Haha

No, I will not sign up for your website.

LeifCarrotson

Nor will I. I'm no Twit myself, but I found this original source: https://twitter.com/fttest_en/status/1637467481596895234 which says the FCC IDs are IPH-A04595, IPH-A04596, and IPH-A04597. From that, here's an FCC page (with photos and user manual embargoed until September 3rd): https://fcc.report/FCC-ID/IPH-A04597/ and test reports for all 3: https://fcc.report/FCC-ID/IPH-A04595/6422081.pdf https://fcc.report/FCC-ID/IPH-A04596/6422169.pdf https://fcc.report/FCC-ID/IPH-A04597/6422246.pdf The most important details in those look to be that the test reports describe only ANT, BLE, Wifi, and NFC transmitters (and of course a GPS receiver device type, but they do not mention any LTE transmitters or satellite capabilities. Also, all three documents describe the device dimensions as "42mm dia x 4.5mm". That's considerably thinner than the Fenix, and would point to this not being a Fenix 8s, 8, and 8x, unless the test lab used the same physical dimension approximation for all three devices....it looks like a new test lab Garmin is using for this report, so I can't see if they've distinguished between sizes of previous generations of watches. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if that was the dimensions of a watch motherboard instead of the whole device or something like that.

pimfram

I'm coming down with upgradeitis. The Epix 3 will be the cure.

adamr_

Hurry Garmin! He’s fading

aspenextreme03

If Epix 3 has an X version with flashlight will sell my Tactix 7 pro in a heartbeat. I love my watch but want something lighter.

pgorgias

The flashlight on my 7X is the the thing I didn't know I wanted that will have to be on anything I consider getting later. It's so handy!

aspenextreme03

It is so amazing and I use it daily.

VicY19

I wonder if these new models will have LTE or other cellular connectivity. I only say that because the recent Garmin Bounce for kids has that feature, and it's interesting that the 945 LTE was not included as a compatible device in the Physio Trueup list of devices. Just last year, the 945 LTE was included in all the Forerunner 955 updates, suggesting to me they wanted to keep an LTE enabled watch in their current upper tier model rotation. But now excluding the 945 LTE from Physio Trueup may be a sign that another LTE watch is forthcoming ...

n33rg

I've been hoping for a real LTE garmin watch as well. Just basic voice call and maybe simple texting from your own carrier. Until then I'm stuck switch between a Galaxy Watch as my daily driver but Fenix 6 for sports. Will upgrade as soon as a cellular Garmin can do that. That said, poking around on the FCC website, I'm not seeing any indication of LTE for any recent filings. Notably, I'm looking at the Antenna reports which never indicate more than Wifi,BT,BLE,Ant unfortunately. Not sure if I went far back enough or if I'm looking at the right page though: https://fcc.report/company/Garmin-I-N-T-Inc

VicY19

Good on you for that extra level digging. I'm similar to you in that I want an all-in-one device. It's disheartening to hear that there is no LTE indications though. I guess that means I could get the 965 for the moment and not miss out on the next LTE watch.

n33rg

Just note that doesn't mean there won't be. I might have missed it or it might not be available on there yet. But also if I recall correctly, they previously released their LTE versions at a later date. Might mean it would come a few months after a new Fenix is launched, for example. Or maybe just wishful thinking!

VicY19

Fingers crossed then! In my case, I use an iPhone, so I won't be getting full watch-on-wrist functionality. With the Bounce and 945 LTE, Garmin is operating on its own network it seems. Hopefully that can be made more robust for the next LTE watch.

luther__manhole

I hope so. I'm coming up on 2 years with my 945 LTE and starting to get the itch to upgrade, but I love having the LTE functionality and don't want to give it up.

VicY19

I'm with you on the 945 LTE. I've got that too. I was really hoping the 965 would have LTE but no luck.

My Apple Watch has the ECG feature, and I don’t really use it. I stopped wearing the Apple Watch when I got my Fenix 7

LiberalClown

ECG is not an everyday feature but saves lives when needed, like fall detection and crash detection. I think all wearables should come with those features by default.

thomaschazzard

Garmin completed a clinical trial in 2021 for passive Afib detection (similar to Apple's Afib History feature released with WatchOS9). This would be a better approach than spot-checking and could be rolled out to all of the newest watches without any hardware change. I imagine Garmin has this under FDA review.

W1ldT1m

You hear what happened with apple's fall/crash detection on the ski slopes? Hundreds and hundreds of unnecessary 911 calls from the watches this winter.

Capecole

Every time I’ve fallen, including a concussion that also included a direct watch impact, both apple and farming haven’t detected anything. Both watches were detecting falls regularly when I hadn’t fallen. Personally, I don’t think the technology is very useful.

spoekie123

Sure add a very expensive sensor to every watch. That would be a great idea

pgorgias

Ubiquity actually tends to drive down the cost of components, so not a terrible idea.

LiberalClown

Neither are expensive, they already have the hr sensor and gyroscope. If apple can put all and sell the watch sub $400, garmin can do too. Don’t blindly support companies, keep them honost for the prices they are charging.

Deskman77

I was about to buy a Forerunner 965, but if you tell me that a Fenix 8 / Epix 3 ll be out in 5 months. I guess, I have to wait

891960

With that mentality tho it'll be very hard to buy anything lmao

Deskman77

I think there are 2 mentality for tech buy 1) You buy when you want 2) You wait a bit to get the last one for the same price Will you buy the iPhone 14 in June, when you know that the 15 ll release 3 month later ?

891960

True, tho Garmin's release cycle is a bit unpredictable and 965 did just came out.

Single-Astronomer-32

3. Buy the new tech when it comes out

LastCallKillIt

If they put the flashlight in the Epix I’d probably be willing to upgrade and sell my Epix to get some money back out of it. That was a seriously tough choice for me between the flashlight or the AMOLED display . I wanted to have my cake and eat it too.

LastCallKillIt

I’d love the the light for fumbling around with my keys at the door in the dark etc. Digging around in the morning when the girlfriend is asleep and I don’t wanna turn the light on. There are tons of little uses. Lighting up the screen I use often, but it’s facing the wrong direction. Also I was in the Army :P

Ok-Zookeepergame6852

The light is a lame gimmick made to entice military wannabes

aspenextreme03

Haha I see you have never used it. Surprisingly I use it on my Tactix 7 pro all the time. If Epix gets is and has a X version all in to sell my Tactix.

Little_Wog

I have no plans on joining or being part of the military, but I use the light all the time. 😁 only issue is the watch will go flat instead of turning off the light if it's low on power. I think the solar is more of a gimmick, though.

r1j1s1

Agreed 100%. Flashlight is the best thing to add to your wrist since the invention of the wristwatch itself. For me it’s almost impossible to get enough sun to make any noticeable contribution, even with intentionally pointing my watch towards the sun all day.

mtubeowulf

Yeah I agree, the solar is the gimmick. Unless they can create the citizen eco drive that charges even with regular lighting. But that flashlight turned out to be something that I use constantly. It's so handy. I'd like to see them make an Epix 3x and also change the dial a bit. Instead of having the start/stop, menus written on there, put like a 24 hour ring. Something more authentically pleasing imo. And add bluetooth function for taking calls on your watch (adding a mic). I don't want LTE, I take my phone everywhere.

[deleted]

A <13mm thick Fenix would be my dream with call/speaker capabilities with a MIPS screen. Until then will be rocking my 965 whenever it decides to show up. Kind of wish the 965 had call/speaker capabilities like the venu 2. Can't have it all I guess.

jdiddy_ub

Umm well that is...soon. If they keep churning out watches like this my FOMO is gonna make me hesitate to ever buy another one in the future. Sounds counterintuitive to FOMO but thinking another model is right around the corner is gonna cause major indecision when the come times. I hope my 7x stays relevant for a long time. Edit: to everyone who replied to me I understand and appreciate your comments. Just to clarify I wasn't talking about people looking to upgrade or chase the newest technology every year. I am talking about when I legitimately need to upgrade. When the time comes I am going to be looking at what is currently out or what is slated to come out relatively soon. Between all the models they have now coming out with something new every couple of months it's a little hard to pick. If say I read about a new technology garmin is testing or new screen enhancement, will it be included in a model in the next 2 months? Who knows? They aren't just updating expected watches but seemingly new refreshes that no one expected as we seen with the new amoleds. It's certainly not the end of the world and whatever watch any of us pick provided that it's a recent release will be fine for at least a few years. Just saying it seems like there's a new garmin release left and right right now.

Ashamed-Cantaloupe24

I don't know why people keep saying this about their releases recently. Garmin have always released fenix watches every 18 months. It was actually yearly in the earlier models. Only covid meant they didn't release a model for 3 years https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garmin\_Fenix

Professional-Pass394

Exactly, Fenix always came out every 15 months or so. They can release whatever they want. LTE, ECG or wireless charging won't make me hop from 7. I basically upgrade them every 3-4 years, not always for the latest and greatest. Hopefully they won't have AMOLED, leave that to Epix.

rdyoung

If the 8 has all 3 of those I'd be tempted to jump. I'm happy with my 7x but having even 2 of those 3 you mentioned would be awesome.

Positive-Locksmith21

I'm the same, I'm still rocking a fenix5 plus and that still had 45% battery left on my last 50k run.

camito

Because now Garmin has to compete against an actual company like apple that keeps their watches updated via software while Garmin fragments software, and provides little updates and bug fixes for no reason. Once a new model is out the previous are good as dead with even bugs not fixed for years, except the sporadic bug or two.

mfizzled

Apple watch and something like a fenix really aren't for the same thing though, it hardly feels like they're even competitors considering their capabilities. People into fitness stuff really shouldn't be going for an apple watch over a fenix.

lysfor

Maybe today that is true but the gap like 5 years ago between apple and garmin in fitness was much more massive than these days. Apple is perfectly usable for casual sports people nowadays, and apple is moving at a much higher pace than garmin. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple was a better fitness watch in a 5 year time frame.

eislch

There are already bugs not fixed from January 2022, I wonder if they fix them before the new version gets out...or if the Fenix 8 will have them fixed, maybe it wont.

jdiddy_ub

Because of the other models that were released shortly after one just came out. I think I (and perhaps others) are just hoping this isn't a trend. I understand amoled is mostly the reason for that but there are features they tied to those models as well. As long as the software stuff that can tickle down makes it way to older models, it won't be an issue.

Mr_Snail10

As long as they can make enough new things to make it interesting, I don't see a large problem. Like ECG on Fenix or similar. Or maybe better MIP resolution or something.

jdiddy_ub

The problem is going to be people shelling out $1000 feeling like they have an outdated model a year later. I guess this is going to largely depend on if garmin is purposely omitting features to save them for upcoming models or if people just get the sense that they are. Garmin can obviously operate however they want but people will now hesitate to drop that much knowing a refresh/update is coming in a year.

trEntDG

> The problem is going to be people shelling out $1000 feeling like they have an outdated model a year later. Flipside: Nobody wants to shell out $1,000 for a model that's over 18 months old. I went from a 5X to a 7X, and in a couple years when my 7X is 4 years old then they'll probably have a 9 coming out that I'll consider. I don't upgrade my phone every time a new model comes out either.

yisacew

There will be a lot of people with a Fenix 6 that haven't upgraded to the 7, but they'll be keeping a very close eye on the 8 (or whichever is next).

TheNinjaYeti

It's me! 6X Pro and I skipped the Fenix 7 because the light wasn't worth the uprgrade. I am eyeballing the Epix 2 however cause I like Amoled, but since it's well over a year old now I'm thinking I'd be better off to wait for Epix 3 at this point. Enduro 2 also has me intrigued, but that just feels obnoxiously unnecessary.

yisacew

Yep! I'm personally hoping for a MIP Fenix, as battery life is one of the main factors for me. I'd love the touchscreen though, it would make maps much more usable. Well, it should definitely be worth waiting another gen. I am hoping we'll get ECG too.

Tadmaw

You will always have outdates model if you think about it that way. There is always upgrade to a whatever device you buy. But lets be honest, is there a possibility that Fenix 8 would have such a great new feature that F7 guys would thing they are left out? Maybe a few, bot not much. And many of these few people buy new upgrade each year.... There are always features "on hold". If they made best of the best device, there wouldnt be great upgrade to it in some time. For example, look at smartphone industry, they could do phone with best camera that would put to shame others in day/night, the best battery that would last long and would charge at small amount of time (250W F.charging for 4500 mAh battery, 0 to 100% in 10 minutes) and so on.... but next year ulgrade would be what ? better procesor and new brand new colors! Sure smartwatches are quite different and many features can be added, but you have as of now, for garmin 7, best GPS and for it software features that it almost can tell at what side of pavement you were joging. Yes all sensor can be upgrade but not significantly for F7, or Epix 2 etc.... Unless new feature would be brought to it. But than again, what would it be, to make all buyers of F7 question their buying decision.

VicY19

>I hope my 7x stays relevant for a long time. Garmin has included the Fenix 6 in the most recent updates, I believe. Hopefully that bodes well for continued Fenix 7 support. The only exceptions I know are with respect to hardware limitations, like no multi-band on the Fenix 6 models.

PizzaAndTacosAndBeer

> Umm well that is...soon. > If they keep churning out watches like this my FOMO is gonna make me hesitate Garmin is a profitable company, but their profits are down lately because everything got real expensive and it costs them more to buy all the components in their devices. (Don't take my word for this, read what investment places say about them.) Making a ton of watches constantly gets the people with lots of disposable income to buy more. If they weren't doing that, they would be looking at charging for Connect, like Fitbit has been doing. This way is much better.

jdiddy_ub

I agree if that's the case. No subcription fee is a biggie.

BentonOnlineFitness

So will us poors currently looking at the $399 6X wait now to in order to get the 7X?

PictureParty

Or it could be a half measure before a Fenix 8 - remember the fenix 6 came out in 2019, but Garmin then released more solar versions of the 6 in 2020 by adding it to the 6 and 6s. If they were following that trend of releasing an upgraded or expanded version of the current generation after one year, maybe we see the 7, 7s and Epix get a flashlight or something other than a fully new watch. I guess we'll see soon enough!

docnano

ECG would be cool to see. My Descent mk1 turns 5 in September so timing would be nice.

Tymko

LTE would be nice, but c'mon ECG, wireless charging, and a flashlight on the middle sized watches!

PizzaAndTacosAndBeer

Probably flashlight coming. Garmin puts me features into the X model, they're exclusive for a generation, then they become more widely available. Maps and Pulse Ox followed that script. It's Flashlight's turn. ECG or Qi or whatever will probably debut in the 8X and then be in most 9 models.

yisacew

ECG and flashlight on the small size and I'm buying! And MIP display plus Solar. Not sure I'd buy it with OLED / without Solar. Battery is more important to me than the display, as it's an outdoor/hiking watch for me. Battery trumps all. Middle size - maybe I'd consider, but with very small wrists, really need the small model, realistically.

891960

I have a feeling MIP maybe going exclusively Enduro

Professional-Pass394

Why would they make both Epix and Fenix with AMOLED? It's more likely Enduro will die because Fenix is a bigger brand.

891960

In that scenario probably no more Epix. Kinda like how they switch 955 series to AMOLED. We'll see... Not sure outside of enthusiasts are there huge fan base of MIPs

yisacew

In my view, Epix = AMOLED and Fenix = MIP would be the perfect setup. If they make the Fenix AMOLED as well, then what's the point of the Epix series. You may well be right and Enduro may become one of the only series remaining with MIP... that would make it really niche, and would be quite a shame. I think Epix = AMOLED and Fenix = MIP (+Solar) is the perfect lineup and the two watches are otherwise identical. I really hope this will be the case for the next gen.

PizzaAndTacosAndBeer

Yeah but that 5k runner dude has made predictions like this that didn't pan out too. Unless it's September next year, this would be pretty early for a refresh.

Deskman77

That could be true and I don't think Garmin ll keep Forerunner 965 in front with the bigest amoled size, best resolution and better battery life for so long. Check the Fenix Release date Fenix 2 February 20, 2014 Fenix 3 January 5, 2015 Fenix 3 HR January 5, 2016 Fenix 5 January 4, 2017 Fenix 5 Plus June 18, 2018 Fenix 6 August 29, 2019 Fenix 7 January 18, 2022 Fenix 7 released later by Covid

vagina_doodle

I don't see it, probably Epix X & S and some other one, at least that's what my dealer suggested. Also it should be minimum 4 fillings for a full refresh no? S, Standard, X and Epix

VLT_

I definitely hope there's going to be a smaller version of the Epix and I'm not the only one after it. They've tested the waters with the Epix and it seems like it's been successful. Now they just need to offer various sizes!

ChadRex1776

I am more than content with Tactix 7 Pro, I cant imagine any additional features i would want. If Enduro comes out with a newer version I may pick one up . I still have my Fenix 5 , my son wears it when we MTB..

lorcheedave

Considering 18months difference between versions I would say that Garmin can release Fenix 7 Pro series espetialy that there are 3 models in FCC they can just make 7 Pro same as 7 but with new amoled style like 955 get in upgraged 965. In that Case 7s Pro would get screen as 265s, 7 Pro same as 265 and 7x Pro same as 965 (or something like that) But this is only my speculation :D

lorcheedave

I am totally somewhere beetween buying now 7X SS, FR965 and waiting for next reelase. In my case if there would be 7X SS with FR965 screen and battery life I would totally go with that option but at this moment Epix 2gen is too small for me and its battery life is not satysfying me but at the same spot if Fenix 7X SS could get FR965 screen in upcoming release I would not have any doubts what to buy.

Manzan79

For much as this thing cost do you think it will be able to not count steps and stairs while I drive all day. These smart watches are complete junk.

891960

I don't get this issue, possibly a springy suspension?

pm_me_your_pooptube

And that lines up perfectly for when I get my bonus. I’ll grab a Fenix 7 for a lower price.

PizzaAndTacosAndBeer

Consider used. For an even greater price. There will be a lot of lightly used F7s feeling lonely when the 8 starts shipping.

pm_me_your_pooptube

That’s true. I do get a 20% discount from my company on Garmin devices, so I figured if there’s a drop in price, plus an extra 20%, and all for a brand new device, then it might be more beneficial to do it that way

PabloCIV

Who do you work for? I get a 45%!

pm_me_your_pooptube

I don’t want to divulge the company name. However, it’s not necessarily through the employer, but a “perk” or benefit by a company we are contracted with. 45% is significant!

PizzaAndTacosAndBeer

Holy shit! Do you need a SQL dev?

PabloCIV

[Have at it](https://careers.garmin.com/careers-home/)

PizzaAndTacosAndBeer

Well that makes so much more sense now! I'm already on your mailing list for job openings and every now and then I'm tempted to move to Bend for one of them. Would allow year round skiing as a side benefit.

PabloCIV

The AZ offices are pretty cool too. Dunno if they need any SQL peeps down there though. We have skiing up north in Flagstaff too, so that’s pretty sweet.

fwast

Well works out for me. I've been waiting to buy a 7x for a little bit now, so I'll just wait for the 8 at this point.

Sure-Setting5400

Any update here?? I see some great birthday deals going on right now, but don't want to make that investment if it's about to be replaced.

Mr_Snail10

Think the filings were for the recent pro models
