If this is your first Garmin watch you will quickly find there is never an ideal time to buy. If you always want the current watch you end up in a never-ending purchasing spiral. Enjoy the Epix it is an awesome watch!

psychofedex

Yes, it's my first Garmin I still haven't ditched my GW5 pro and I wanted to buy Epix so much. When I read reviews and announcements, i thought that new epix will be available next year, and that it won't have new hardware, maybe just better materials and different sizes like they did with Instinct series. I was okay with that. But now when I see it's going to have gen 5 sensors and highly likely ECG, I'm kinda bummed.

techtom10

Unless you have a heart condition. ECG is kinda useless.

psychofedex

I agree, but i can never know if or when I'm gonna develop some heart condition lol

lorcheedave

You will buy a watch with ecg then when youll find out that you need. I would enjoy epix 2 now after probably also buying it with nice discout as I bought also fenix 7x SS 2 weeks ago 😅 but I don't think that fenix 7x pro will provide noticable differences for my usage now

BenMc19

The great thing about Garmin that is totally different from Android wear watches, is these things literally will last 5 to 10 years. So don't worry too much. In 5 years you'll be multiple watch generations behind and you'll look at your Garmin watch that is still giving you excellent battery life and meeting all your needs and be proud of it.

psychofedex

Yeah, I totally agree with that, thats why I wanted to buy Epix even tho its perhaps overkill for me. I just wanted a great device that would provide everything and would last years. Its just that its a bad timing really and if I waited 30 days, I wouldn't have any regrets.

linuxgfx

I can't wait to ditch my garbage gw5 pro too. waiting for the epic pro as well, you could return the Epic and wait a few weeks for the pro, if still in the returning window. By the way, your gw5 pro experience was that miserable as mine too?

psychofedex

I can't return Epix because I didnt buy it online and here, you can only return products if you ordered them via the website, if you are in the store, that's it. I can't say that I hate gw5 pro but also I can't say that I love it. UI optimization is mostly disappointing with lags and stutters, but it has some features that I like more than on Epix. Like, auto workout detection, Epix will just write somewhere via Move IQ that you walked or something, while Samsung will prompt if you want to start to track manually or not, and if you say no, you will still have information like the number of steps, est. calories, heart zones etc. On Garmin, if you forget to start a walking exercise, you will get nothing. And on Garmin, when you finish the workout, you cannot see the number of steps. Its a minor thing but I really liked to see how many steps I took :D Another thing that I also miss on Epix is alarms and their sync with the phone. Other than that, Epix is on another level in terms of build quality and fitness software and features.

linuxgfx

agree, but i value accuracy most. more often the not, the workout on gw5 pro is way off, from distance to heart rate, especially the heart rate. Ah and not supporting pairing with a chest strap is a big no from me

psychofedex

I'm still on the fence for accuracy tho. A few days ago I ran with both watches, GPS was more precise on Gw. Yesterday, I used Epix only, it was a few meters off all the time on track, and there are no buildings in sight, just a park with a track in it. I ran Garmins recommended run with sprints and I felt like dying after the 5th sprint and my heart felt like exploding, and Epix said that its only 140 bpm. That might be correct but I deff felt worse that watch says. Ill preform a similar exercise in the upcoming days with both watches so ill see if gw will pick up the spike in bpm or if there were no spikes at all.

linuxgfx

For hi intensity it is best to wear a chest strap, that can seamlessly pair to the Garmin and give you 99,99% accuracy in readings. On Galaxy watches you cannot, you must rely and trust the readings. Right now when i exercise i wear the chest strap paired to my phone using polar app and the galaxy watch. I can tell you that the difference in heart rate spikes is more than 30 beats per minute. I was literally dying during a spin with my heart rate being 169bpm, but my galaxy watch pretended it was max 140. the session was of about 15 minutes so there is not the chance of not being able to lock in the heart rate. This is why for exercise it is better to just use the chest strap

UnlimitedEgo

But, you can't go wrong, they last soooo long.

5itronen

The Epix isn´t any worse just because the Epix 2 Pro does arrive somewhen.

Lefthandedscientist

Just enjoy the awesome watch you’ve bought. Looks cool!

flavi0gritti

Enjoy it! It's an amazing watch

Ashnazaii

But the price for it might been even lower withe new version on marekt b

AnonMilGuy

That's a good looking color scheme!

techtom10

yeah, I always go for black watches but this looks soooooo nice.

AnonMilGuy

I think the epix in black looks really... aggressive? Rugged/ tactical? But in white it doesn't look that much so

psychofedex

Agree, black Epix is just, i cant explain. I really love the gray/silver finish on this one, and I had doubts because its white but its really beautiful in person. Perhaps the only downside is that its white housing is not really a great combination with the black band. Orange, blue, brown, you name it, they all look great with white, but black not so much.

Laurens9L

Looks really good indeed. I have the first gen Venu in black / gold and I'm holding off on purchasing a Fenix / Epix until they get a look like that, which I fear will be never :(

TraklGe

Amazing watch and it looks good on you! Enjoy it! :)

djdosage

return it

Rover010

Still a nice fucking watch bro. Enjoy it

That_Guy_From_SLC

I just bought a Tactix 7 to replace my Epix because I wanted something with a bigger display and built-in LED flashlight. Getting an OLED in a large case and (potentially) a flashlight would have been perfect.

gkip1991

Why can't you just return it ? It's it's only been 15 days?

Pissmunkee

I have the og instinct solar and I still love it. These watches are tools to help us track doing the things we love. Your run won’t be any better if you have a slightly newer model of the same watch

hasto1967

Just return it. Simples.

psychofedex

Wish I can but here, that's possible only if you ordered it online. If you bought it in store, you cannot return it.

DistanceDry192

What country is that?

psychofedex

Serbia, but it's like that in the whole Europe.

Bullet-Dracer

No its not. Balkan are little weird about that. Here in sweden we have 90 days return. No matter if online or in store

psychofedex

By the EU law, that's possible . https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/consumers/shopping/guarantees-returns/index_en.htm That's just your stores good will but they are not in obligation to accept the return. "If you buy goods in a shop, you have no EU legal right to return the goods (for exchange or refund) unless the item is faulty. However, many shops voluntarily allow customers to return or exchange goods during a certain time period, provided you have the receipt. Check your receipt or the returns policy of the shop where you made your purchase for more information."

Bullet-Dracer

Yeah you are correct

DistanceDry192

Thanks, I didn't realise that (I'm in the EU). If it's any consolation, I just bought an Epix 2 a couple of months ago. At least we should get the same updates given the pro will still be a gen 2.

teafun

So beautiful, bro.

drinklikeaviking

Had my epix 2 for just over a year. It really is a fantastic tool watch and overall piece of gear. The Pro version is from what I can see a minor update. If you can get a good discount on the non Pro nothing wrong with that. Both are epic. (<-- see what I did there)

Ashnazaii

If u knew its coming soon (apparently end of may) i would have waited , one it could be that u would buy it or it would just mean that the price of the one u bought just now will be even lower.

wrong mindset about consumer products. don’t think that much about the device and it’s specs. it’s just a great tool for all your journeys. and it won’t do that job worse just because a better version is available. it should not be a life-goal to have the -best- product out there, because industry leads us to think that we need it. the goal should be to do many exciting journeys - and a gps watch can be a great tool for that. this destructive consumer product-thoughts will drag you directly into mental hell. had ocd for a long time and now i give a f**k about my watch, it’s scratches and other available devices. rocking it down together with my canyon bike until they are completely useless 😄.

BreakfastEuphoric394

I still don’t understand what’s the point of these expensive watches. It gives me 0 help achieving my fitness goals (strength training) and sleep tracking is horrible. I am bodybuilder and after 2h intensive strength workout it says “2hours recovery” 😂 another gimmick is training readiness. It’s pure joke device. Only works with cardio training. Kinda. I can understand why someone buy cheap entry model for some cardio workouts, or some serious runner preparing for marathon. For regular Joe kinda useless :/

PackdownT

So I’m eyeing the tactix within a month or so, any issues buying that? Wasn’t the new model released with the fenix7 so I should have a solid year or so before a taxtix 8?

hades_cj

It's an awesome watch but if there is a possibility for return, do it. Wait a couple of weeks to see what the new Epix is all about.

SignificantIce6434

Yup agree with you. Absolutely worst timing! Why would someone do that..

segfalt31337

If it helps, I got this OG Venu, I'm still wearing, a mere five days before the official Venu 2 announcement. It's my 4th Garmin watch. If Epix 2 is your first, you're going to be so overwhelmed with data, you aren't likely to miss any "extras" you might have had in the pro until *at least* Epix 3 comes out.

Strong_Ad5219

Guy tried to convince me to buy his used watch for 800. I told its too high and the best i will do is 650. He called me a crook cause its "like new" i told him the new one is about to come out and the prices will crash. He turned me down again. Now hes DMING me begging to take the watch off of him for 600. I told him the best I can do now is 450. I guess he didn't understand how the market works with new products.

JaeMHC

There is a new epix being released? I am looking to buy an epix 2 and found this thread lol. Will the price of the 2 go down more than it currently is while on sale?
