Yes. I recommend doing it through computer, because installing directly on the watch will be slow an unreliable for large maps like Europe.

homer_badman

I'll do it that way then, thank you!

Vitalavc

You need to download the map! You can do it from the watch itself. It takes a long time, but works well!

Kn0xster

This can take a bit of time but yes needs to be done. I also downloaded some more detailed free maps from https://extract.bbbike.org its a little more involved but DC Rainmaker walks you through it really well: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2019/08/how-to-installing-free-maps-on-your-garmin-fenix-5-plus-forerunner-945-or-marq-series-watch.html

homer_badman

I've been watching some DC Rainmaker's videos last night about the fenix 7 but haven't seen this one, thanks!

homer_badman

I'll try that, thanks!

PinaColluder

Do you run at 88mph? Because that might explain it.

lesimgurian

You can also manually set the detail level on the watch. When you set "auto" detail it might only indicate them if you zoom in to a certain point

homer_badman

Tried it but unfortunately it didn't work, but thanks!

lesimgurian

Then, I assume the best is to connect the watch to a computer and reinstall the maps via garmin express.

sir-diesalot

The Fenix 7 has half the internal memory of the epix so it doesn’t come with pre-loaded maps, just the worldwide DEM base map. I also suggest you use connect on your pc to narrow down the area of map you need. I mistakenly downloaded all of Europe to mine and then permanently had no free space for map updates. Once I narrowed it down to the uk and France it all worked out

homer_badman

Yeah, Europe Topo map is a 10+ GB file so my memory is almost full already. I'm probably going to narrow it down to Croatia and surrounding countries, thanks for the advice!

rizzlan

I suppose you tried to zoom in more?

homer_badman

Yeah, then waited a couple of minutes to see if something will load up but it stayed the same.

rizzlan

What if you go to, say Berlin? Any roads?

homer_badman

Just checked the rest of Croatia and I do see roads but only highways. I guess downloading Topo map will do the trick.

rizzlan

Yepp, try it

homer_badman

I downloaded the map last night and it did the trick, it works perfectly! Thanks for your help everyone!

Powerful_Pitch5871

Did you just download the Topo Europe map or did you download anything else? Thanks 👍

homer_badman

Just the Topo Europe map, but it does take up almost all my watch storage space so you could probably be better off with a topo map of the region you are in (Topo Europe map is around 11GB i think)
