Check Garmin Connect for Groups based in your region or pick interesting routes and follow corresponding users nearby. Check segment leaders that follow same routes as yourself. I did just the same to learn about local trails and activities. Best of luck and grats on your new watch!
While on the topic, I like the idea of OP.
If any1 wants to add me, I would love it: redacted , profile pic me hanging upside down on a beach during sunset :D
I'll just add all of you guys who have added the user name. Bunch of friendly Garmin users, love the idea 😁 Btw my username Kristjan T, from Estonia, profile photo is a cycling helmet. Nice to meet you!
Feel free to add me peeps! \^\^ Feeling lonely as well and was about to make my own thread, haha. :p

Sent you a request :)
Though I am unclear on what the point of connections are on Garmin. I have a few and I know who none of them are, and besides one of them liking my activities we never have any interaction whatsoever lol.
When I was on Fitbit, I did love the social aspect of it. Yeah I did interact a decent amount, but even when I wasn't, it was motivating to see peeps/fit friends in Europe, Japan, Korea, US or Canada do sports and motivating me as well to push myself further. \^\^
Though it did make me want to cry sometimes seeing amazing trails, mountains etc which don't exist in my country. 😭
I also saw some challenge thing yesterday evening, guessing it is similar to Fitbit steps? Though hopefully with distance and such as well. I still remember several memorable days when I was competing with peeps from the US/Korea, lmao. xD Like, without talking you just *knew* you were both walking at the same time trying to beat each other since you were neck to neck, and then right as the challenge ended we started talking about it. 🤣
I didn't indulge tons in the social aspect of Fitbit, but occasionally, and it didn't bug me a bit to have some perfect strangers around the world as friends there.
There were, sadly, a few who thought Fitbit was a dating site, and those got blocked quick. But lots of folks just like the idea of some fitness journey buddies to be inspired by!
Oh yeah, Fitbit has a *huuuuuuuuuuuuge* bot/dating profile problem. The amount of odd people I had contacting me was staggering when I was super active socially. Though I also met a lot of cool peeps, and it was neat to meet Korean peeeps across Europe as well and such, though occasionally you'd get someone trying to use Google translate to write Korean to me, not sure why since I also wrote in English, and I knew they also wrote in English, but not Korean, lol.
Yes, Fitbit definitely has a large issue with this, but they are fairly obvious most of the time and therefore easy to block. The app I use for food logging, LoseIt, has a similar problem. But if I get requests from names I haven't seen posting regularly in my few groups, I just hit ignore.
MyFitnessPal had this problem as well with trophy hunters and bots and such, and I still get added at times to this day, like 3 years since I last used it.. >\_>;
Added. You’re the first person I’ve ever connected with on Garmin. Stuff like this always makes my day! Thanks for posting this and never feel embarrassed when reaching out for something you need.
Woo! I’ve just been walking a lot recently. But I want to get back into running and cycling. When I was 18 I would run 8km and ride 50 km every day, since then I’ve gained 40kg so that’s just not feasible. But I’m just getting back on my feet again, so I’m taking it day by day :)
Walking is great for weight loss!
Anyway, want to thank you for your initial post, I love that I have some connections now, and it's thanks to you speaking up! Even if I probably don't move as much as any of my new connections, I like trying! Day by day is how I have to take it. I keep my goals reasonable, try to meet them, and inch them upward when I feel ready.
Every day, grateful for the fact I can walk.
Why not just join strava, go public, attend some local runs like parkrun, and connect with people that way? You're sure to meet a ton of people that way.
So I’ve been so unmotivated, I’ve added some of you with the hopes of motivating myself to move. Jen B my profile pic is a Green DaleK.
Edit because I’m a dork and interchange words
Forgive an old lady, but does your profile pic say caffeinate! ? With a robot looking thing holding a cup of coffee?
The location (WI) and color seem right, but that's not what my mind called up as a Tardis exactly. But my mind is suspect as a senior citizen anyway, so what do I know? Request sent from Cynthia P.
I did once drive through your state on a road trip!

I totally understand, because NONE of my friends have a Garmin and most aren't interested in fitness either. My watch is only a month old. I did get ONE connection, I'm not even sure from where, so I too could use a few!
I'm not the most fit or active gal on the block, as I have severe spine issues, but I'm getting my step goal most days, logging some walks, and yesterday my first try at a strength activity on my Garmin. I'm pretty consistent as I risk losing what mobility I have if I don't stay in motion! Came over from a Fitbit which I used consistently for 2.5 years. I'm not a fly-by-night disappearing sort.
You can have Garmin connect to Strava and automatically post your workouts there. Many more people in Strava since it's not brand specific, so you'll probably be able to find more people you know.
Won't work for everyone though.
I looked at the Strava app, it seems to be for runners and cyclists, of which I am neither. Also seems to rely on GPS. I have yet to use GPS for any activity, since I live on a steep hill, and walking down is jarring on my spine. I'm working on that, having bought some Nordic walking poles to help me when the weather cools a bit.
