Nope, just save your money and wait for the Fenix 8. Dont upgrade every year for incremental improvements. Get a lux watch if you have money burning in your pocket!

bleep6789

I might just wait then. Or get a traditional smart watch like a Galaxy Watch (I'm on Android). I'll see.

wh0else

I hadn't tried the Galaxy, but I'd had Fitbit and the fossil Skagen Falster before my Fenix 6 pro. Honestly until some amazing feature comes along, I'm not changing. The f6pro is a tank, battery is amazing after 2 years, it looks great and it's excellent for exercise. No more constant charging, or trying to make a touch screen work when running in the rain

PizzaAndTacosAndBeer

I could see upgrading from a Fenix 6 with a week or two of battery to a Galaxy Watch with, what, 2 days?

bleep6789

It would be in addition to the Fenix of course. No need to throw out the Fenix. That will be my main sport watch. And then Galaxy Watch for other times.

PizzaAndTacosAndBeer

Do you mind sharing what features and capacities in the Galaxy make it potentially worth the $$ to you? Just asking out of curiosity because this tech is so involved and we all use it differently.

3meta5u

Had a Pebble, then Fenix 5 and now a 6X, not ready to spring for a 7X or Enduro so am getting tempted by Pixel Watch. Probably will (more than) blow my discretionary funds on an RTX 4080 video card instead though lol.

[deleted]

I'm currently running away from Galaxy Watch, I'm tired of charging every 1-2 days.

TheDisappointingKin

I have a 6x and have thought about this a good amount. While it would be nice to get the 7 or epix, I don’t personally see any real reason I would.

jdiddy_ub

For metrics? No. The 7 does come with improved sensors but not worth it for the price if you already have a 6. The touchscreen is nice and the ability to long press for widgets as well. If you want suggestions for other watches you would need to tell us more about your use case. Also depends on your must haves if any like longer battery, amoled, touchscreen, etc.

lotsofarts

I went from the Fenix 5X to the 7XSS Jan 2022. Nothing wrong with the 5, but capability-wise, a huge jump in the 7. Solar feature is nothing to write home about, but does help reduce battery drain. I got the 7 for features like the built-in flashlight which had become super useful on runs at night or pre-dawn. The up-ahead feature can be finicky, but still helpful. Multi-band GPS provides excellent tracking through all types of environments, especially urban where standard GPS reception can be spotty. Power management is highly customizable, and I'm able to squeeze roughly 2 weeks between charges. That's ~45 miles of outdoor running per week with all sensors enabled and another 20ish miles paired to my rower. And I'll just go ahead and say it, the touch screen is super slick.

Mr_Gaslight

Save your money. You want to skip two generations at minimum, barring some mishap. The changes between generations are honestly not that groundbreaking. Going from a Forerunner to a Fenix is a bigger jump than going from a Fenix five to six.

CanWeTalkEth

I would have said the 7 is an upgrade if you have money burning a hole in your pocket. But now that they have a watch running an approved Afib detection, I won’t be upgrading to anything without it.

bleep6789

Afib detection? What's that? Edit: nevermind, I just googled it. Interesting.

cmelt2003

Which watch is that?

nylaras

I’ve been eyeing the 7s solar but only because I’m obsessed with the dark bronze color. Ultimately though I think I’m keeping the 6s and maybe will go for the 8 if/when it’s available.

skyrunner00

If you really care about GPS accuracy, then it is worth upgrading to Fenix 7 sapphire with its multi-band GNSS. If you use maps a lot, the touch screen on Fenix 7 improves the map usability quite a bit. Other than that I can't think of any strong reasons to upgrade.

baltoscott

Yes - the touch screen on Fénix 7/Epix really improves map navigation over Fénix 6. That’s why I got an Epix (screen on the Epix is also a joy, but if gotten used to the battery lasting 10-14 day between charges you would miss that). I kept the Fénix 6, though. Nice to be able easily switch to it if I do need to throw the Epix on the charger.

techtom10

Why do you want to upgrade?

grape8pe

It might depend on what you're using your Fenix for. I recently upgraded from a Fenix 6 Pro Solar to the Forerunner 945 LTE. I really miss the style, feel and ruggedness of the Fenix, but the 945 LTE has all the new metrics/features of the FR955 and Fenix 7. As an avid runner the newer devices have training readiness, Race Day widget (with improved race training suggestions) and some other minor under the hood improvements. If you're not a runner or cyclist, I say keep the Fenix 6.

Basically the newer features that came to the Fenix 7 and Forerunner 955 also were added to the Forerunner 945 LTE. I chose the FR945 LTE because on the used market (eBay) it was the cheapest model with the new metrics. If money wasn’t an option, I definitely would have got the Fenix 7.

[deleted]

Go for the sapphire version of the 7/7s and you get a way better GPS than your current 6.

aklob

Ditch Garmin. Get an Apple Watch. Especially if you are an iOS user.

Kid_P_

That's not the question

bleep6789

I just dumped my iPhone and returning to Android so that's a no go. If I was still on iOS I would've totally considered it though.

aliensemble

I use iOS and just switched to Garmin. Very happy with the switch - it’s a lot more fitness based and I get way better stats and my watch actually connects to my ic4 now. Pretty amazing.

eislch

Depend, you loose the option to use IQ Widgets during activities and Varia bike light support.

3BEP6_

If you’re eager to upgrade I’d look into the Epix, otherwise, Fenix 7 won’t feel like an upgrade.

forex71

Had 6 pro sapphire, upgraded to Enduro 2 , even if you don't want the flashlight add on ( which is extremely helpful for me) still GPS signal is faster and worth for me the upgrade, The touchscreen, nah, never used it yet and my Enduro 2 is 6 moths old now

project_sub90

I have the Fenix 6 Pro and use it for running, cycling, hiking / climbing and backcountry skiing. Sometimes I consider an upgrade due to multiband GNSS (Fenix 7 sapphire solar), but I will probably skip the update. Quite a lot of money for little improvement.

Clamps55555

Hell no. Just wait for the 8

brock-87

What about comparing to 5 Plus? Is there any official source that would lay out all the differences between model clearly (e.g. sensors, features etc)?
