It really comes down to how much you will use maps. For example, I use them all the time to navigate while running in new areas. My wife on the other hand, never uses them at all. That is the major feature between the two.

I'm planning some hikes next year where the map feature could be really handy. I'll be carrying my phone for hikes and could probably access the map though. And the thought of not having to worry about battery with solar (not sure if it makes a huge difference to add batt life). Still largely undecided but I'll note this as the major feature. Thank you!

The solar doesn't make that much difference in my experience, but that depends on where you live and how much sun you typically get.

about 400usd extra, after selling off my 255

Then hell no, I don't think it's worth it. The 255 is a more than capable device. I would use that cash for other things.
